Searching on Yelp while staying at Richmond area, I was excited to visit Richmond Public Market, a no-frills, old-school Asian market + food court, this public market does need some renovations, could tell that this is the original public market, the parking is available but keep in mind stalls are narrow. The washrooms are available ( thank goodness) but not in the greatest condition. There are 2 levels to Richmond's Public Market, The ground floor has the market of fresh produce, seafood, meats, herbs, gifts, electronics, flowers, set up like a Chinese outdoor market . Although I never get to check out the ground level during both visit since we were here early and not open yet. But my favorite is the 2nd level, this is where the foodies will reunite, the food court, So many Asian foodies selection, from Szechuan, Taiwanese, noodles, dumplings, boba tea, even Vietnamese too, there's too many to list. The reason I made a stop here twice was for Hei Hei rice rolls, which I am pretty sure If you know, you know. I grab from 2 other shops here. Tables were provided which I was able to enjoy our rice rolls and also got take out for later. * cash only, since credit cards are not accepted, we used the ATM to take out some cash/CAD but the fees were ridiculous, better to be prepared next time and exchange $$ upon arrival to Richmond, BC. Great nostalgic place (30+ years) to visit, don't judge by the looks of it. Now extended hours and open until 8:00 pm!

Super authentic to China and mimics a Chinese market overseas. Lots of grocery and meat options downstairs and a hawker style food court upstairs. Parking is available in the garage and it's fairly tight and sketchy. Cool to see in North America honestly; this kind of market doesn't exist in most major cities.

Lost of stalls were closed on the day I went which was really disappointing but I guess I didn't do enough research.

Very fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of varieties. Value seemed reasonable. Prices are good. The merchants were quick to serve. Service was quick. Regular Asian merchant service: not the friendliest but did the job. The place is bright and clean. I wished it uplift it and maybe do a slight renovation especially the outside of the building and the front doors.

Great spot to stop by for food on the way to downtown Vancouver. Free parking. First floor sells fresh produce, meat, seafood, Chinese medicine, etc. Compared to the food courts located in the mall, the one here on the second floor is clean and spacious, offers good variety of cuisine to choose from, and decent amount of seating. Price is reasonable. Most stalls requires cash, but also accepts WeChat pay. The only downside was the escalator was not working when we visited at end of May.

Great shopping and food center with a variety of Asian cuisines! This Public Market makes you feel like you are at a food center in Asia. I ate from 3 of the food stalls here: Hei Hei Rice Roll, Mr.Mango, and Snail Rice Noodle. Since most of the food stalls are Chinese-owned, they accept Alipay, but you can only use Alipay if you have an account from China. So if you are just visiting like I did from Washington, please be sure to get cash since many of them don't accept cards. Since we didn't have CAD cash on hand, we had to go to the currency exchange, then come back to eat here. I would say it was well worth it, though! Prices were also great for how much you got. The rice roll was obtained from Hei Hei Rice Roll contained a mixture of beef and shrimp with green onion. lettuce, and bean sprouts on top. It was delectable and absorbed the sauces well! The dish we got from the Snail Rice Noodle stall was some Snail Rice Noodle with Duck, I think? The bowl had a lot of noodles and meat. I loved the sourness of the soup along with the various amounts of toppings. This is such a great choice to try at the Richmond Public Market. To drink, we got a Mango Yogurt from Mr.Mango. It was creamy and cool. Perfect for the sunny weather. This was my first time coming to this Public Market and eating here instead of going to Aberdeen Centre, and I loved everything I ate here. I would come back next time prepared, so I don't waste any time not eating.

Very busy and lively at 1 PM on a Saturday. Love the food court for the great variety of all sorts of delicious Chinese foods and treats. The lower floor has groceries, vegetables, meats and herbal items. A free other shops such as travel agency, nail salon, florist, etc. many of the lower floor stalls are closed/empty - which makes the place seem kinda tired and dead. Prices for all shops and foods seem quite reasonable. Hunting for a parking spot is a bit of a mess and tight on turns - but the turnover of spots seems fairly quick and it's free.

This place takes me back to Hong Kong -- and even the food centres of Singapore. Albeit not "cheap" by any means, the food and vibes make up for it. Definitely hit up the popular spots: Chef Lius kitchen, Peanuts bubble tea, and Hei Hei Rice Roll. There's something for everyone here and it's great to divide and conquer via family style eating. Not much seating (especially when it's busy) due to the layout but parking is free so takeout is recommended, and remember to bring a bag (or box!)

Upon landing in YVR, the plan was to pick up our rental car and drive to Whistler. But, we needed lunch. When I saw that Richmond was right near the airport, we decided to make the Richmond Public Market one of our stops. It was a Thursday at around 12:30. There is a free parking lot with various levels, which looked pretty full despite the market seeming a bit empty - but it was easy to find a spot, and people are always leaving. I think I expected more of this market and was a little disappointed. On the lower level, you have all of your groceries like produce, seafood, meat, a few bakeries, jewelry stores, kind of like a mini Chinatown. Upstairs is the food court. I was hoping there would be more of a variety, but most of the stalls were just selling pre-cooked Chinese food - the ones where you can pick a variety of 3 or 4 dishes for a set price. None of them looked too appealing. We ended up picking some rice rolls and spicy intestines from two of the stalls. If you're staying in Downtown Vancouver, this isn't close. So I would say it's not really worth going out of your way for (unless you have a car). Tip - a lot of the stalls are cash only.

Richmond Public Market is a fantastic place to kill time and stuff your face. They do have a dedicated parking garage with plenty of spots, but the entrance is sooo narrow and it'll take you 10 minutes to make the first turn. The first floor is a open marketplace with a butchery, bakery, clothing, kitchenware, and more for you to explore. However, the second floor is a fantastic food court with a variety of Chinese food options at an insanely reasonable price. I will note that most of these shops are cash only, but there is an ATM available on the second floor if you showed up unprepared. Captain Wa (4.75/5): Insanely good values for rice plates. Also, service is so sweet. We ordered the three item combo and when I jokingly mentioned that I wasn't selecting any vegetables, they added pork and zucchini into my box without charging me for it. Fried chicken and soy sauce chicken legitimately some of the best I've ever had. Cannot recommend this place enough. Hei Hei Rice Roll (3/5): I think this place is fairly overrated. The rice roll was too mushy for me and I didn't love the texture. Their soy sauce is fairly standard, their chili oil is delicious, and their congee is much too watery and bland. Peanut's (3.5/5): Boba shop with fresh-made wheel cakes. I got the custard and the shell texture was great - crispy shell and fluffy inside. I thought the custard was slightly too eggy, but my 4 seasons tea was great. My Noodles NN+ (4/5): Got the jian bing here and the pork was insanely tender and flavorful. Unfortunately, there wasn't quite enough sauce and it ate a little dry, especially at the end.

OH CANADA I'm from California and this is the closest environment to straight CHINA that I've seen outside of mf CHINA. Amazing experience. I don't even car how the food tastes it's just fun to be home. Food is good tho

Come to Richmond Public Market for the food, not the atmosphere. The building is dated, but maybe that's what gives the market its unique charm. Coming from downtown Vancouver, the Canada Line is your best option (other than driving). I visited Richmond Public Market on a rainy day, which was perfect because the market is entirely indoors. Upper level has the food court with very affordable options and some travel agencies; lower level has grocery/ meat vendors and small shops reminiscent of Ladies Market in Hong Kong. Seems like Richmond Public Market is catered more for Richmond locals, but as a visitor, my main goal was to eat at Hei Hei Rice Roll and Peanuts, people-watch, and then browse the downstairs grocery/ meat vendors. Remember to bring cash! Most (if not all) vendors do not take credit card.

This is a shopping mall in a single building. From what I can tell, all vendors are Chinese. There are a few grocery stores, houseware, phone cases, imported furniture, old/used clothing, Chinese herbs, and suitcases. The entire second floor contains Chinese food stalls. The second floor feels like a hawkers market found in Singapore. There are hard-to-find indoor seating and a few outdoor tables. Years ago, the building must have contained western vendors, but it has been taken over by Chinese vendors. On a Sunday afternoon, 99% of the people are Chinese. There are stairs, escalators, and an elevator. The aisles are clean with many straw clear wrappers all over the place. There is free WiFi under the name "RPM Customer". The building is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms. There is a private parking lot and  neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-170

Went during weekday lunch and they have some business, but not as busy as the more popular stalls. Fairly new place opened within a year. Their menu has a selection of pho, soups, and rice/vermicelli plates. Got an order of the pork skewers and the pho with beef rib. Took about 10 min for the food to be ready. The pork skewers had a serving of 6. Nicely seasoned, and not too dry or chewy. The beef rib pho came in a pretty big bowl, Good amount of pho and meat, including two short pieces of beef rib, sliced beef, beef balls. The flavor is pretty comparable to Vietnamese restaurants in the area. They were running a special discount when we went, so total was $24 which is quite affordable. Another nice food stall at the public market.

From Herban Farm in Pike Place, I got their Pike Place Herbs. When I was in Budapest, I went to the Great Market Hall and got two paprika tins and a taco seasoning blend from the spice shop there. So while doing a lap around Granville Island Public Market and seeing a spice stall with a huge variety of salts and spices, I had to stop by. And I had to restrain myself given how much bag space I had left. Jean-Pierre Coté will warmly greet you as you approach, giving you a rundown of what he has. All of the salts and spice blends are handmade, and the packaging is top notch, featuring the ingredients, a tasting note, and then recommendations on what to cook. They all come in a variety of sizes, from the small 28 gram tins, 50 gram sqaures, to 100 gram bags, 250 gram bags. It will take you some time to consider what you want, and I highly recommend you keep talking with Jean-Pierre about his selection. I was looking for blends I couldn't get anywhere else, and the ones he pointed out were: Turmeric saffron sea salt - hard to miss the bright yellow salt, which he points out you should add a pinch to your rice to really bring out a nice, Mediterranean flavor. I've done so, and it really does change up the flavor profile. English Garden salt seasoning - you most likely will pick up this mix of pink and purples and wonder what is in there. You really need to read this fascinating mix of ingredients featuring vanilla, potatoes, blueberries and a whole lot more, which he points out is amazing on everything from salads to tempura! Egyptian Style Seasoning - This spice blend really stole the show for me. I'm a big fan of cumin, but the hazelnut, coriander, mint and more really stands out. I was so exited by this once I made it home I found a great instant pot recipe for Egyptian lamb stew and I used this as the seasoning. WOW! I was eating it for 3 days (it was a big recipe), but the flavors did not disappoint. If you live in Vancouver or just visiting and love food, or know someone who does, I cannot recommend Maison Cote enough. You are sure to wow yourself or a loved one with one of his blends.
