I have ridden with Rick for maybe 7 years now and he has been amazingly patient and helpful. I had a horrible wreck somewhere else did he has helped me chip away at becoming more confident and competent. When my first horse developed a rare genetic condition, rendering her totally unrideable, Rick found a good, permanent, loving home for her. He then began the looong process of assisting me find my new horse. He rejected countless horses until he found just the right horse for me. I couldn't love my horse more! Rick is all about safety. It's the over-arching priority for all of his riders as well as the horses. Always! He keeps his horses fit, exercised and sound. His horses are sound and fit well into their teens and twenties. Rick's team is also super competent and always helpful and cheerful. I travel quite a bit and Laura, Holly and "Team Julia's" are always happy to take over and make my absences seamless for my horse. And me! Ricks barn is a lot of fun, with clients encouraging each other and helping each other reach new levels; unlike many other barns. I couldn't recommend Rick Baer more heartily. read more

I've been taking riding lessons at Rick Baer Training Stables since 2015. Laura is a great teacher and I've learned so much from her. The entire staff gets along so well with each other and this makes clients feel so at home. I really enjoy watching the reining. I'm hoping to work up to this. Worst experience ever I had rick train my horse for a few months and then noticed how awful he is to the horses when the owners are not around. He is a jerk and very rude and feels he has the right to treat everyone like they are beneath them . He also has his dog running around the rows and plays ball which is not safe at all. If anyone complains about him the equestrian center does nothing about it and I do not know why. I feel he loves thinking he owns the place and this is just wrong .if you board at the center be sure to ask around about rick you will see he has no fans at this place. No stars to rick I wish they had big zeros but yelp makes you give at least one star which rick does not deserve read more

I moved to CA from Oklahoma where we had world class reining trainers on every corner. I wanted to find a good trainer to help me, but more importantly, to work with my blind reining horse. I knew that would be tough since many trainers won't mess with a horse like mine. Rick not only took on the challenge, but turned my adequate blind horse into a horse that qualifed for the Jack Baker and has won several classes. I have a 2nd horse with Rick now and he is doing equally amazing things with her. I would recommend Rick if you want to get your reiner ready to show or your non-show horse safer and more confident. His assistants, Kendal and Jamie are amazing with my horses, and they always are clean and well cared for. read more

My daughter has been riding a few years now at different stables in surrounding OC areas. We happened to come across Rick Baer Stables which was much closer to home for us and thought lets give it a try. From day one I could see the level in training they give here compared to other places we have been. Ally is amazing, patient, sweet as can be and over all a great trainer. The horses for the lessons are wonderful, sweet and gentle. Taking lessons here really makes you feel like the lesson horses are yours from the start to finish which my daughter loves. You do it all here which is really what owning a horse is about, not just showing up and having the horse ready for you to ride. When I met Rick about 7 years ago, I was new to the world of horses and really didn't know much. I had taken lessons for several years but it wasn't until I purchased my horse Toby that I learned just how much I didn't know. I continued to take lessons with Toby, but he started to develop a serious case of barn sour and didn't want to be ridden anymore. He would buck, rear, spin and kick out at me anytime I would take him away from his stall. It got to a point where I hated to ride and was scared that he was going to hurt me or someone else if I didn't get him under control. That's when I was introduced to Rick by one of his employees and as they say the rest is history. He helped to teach me how I needed to set boundaries for Toby. He also had Toby out five days a week training him under saddle and working on his ground manors so that he learned that his out of control behavior was unacceptable. With a lot of patience and discipline, Rick was able to break both Toby and my bad habits and today Toby is a pleasure to ride and is a true gentleman. I can safely say that without Rick's help, I would never have been able to keep, let alone ride Toby. I am truly grateful for his help then and his continued help today. read more

My daughter had been riding English for a couple of years and I was only experienced in occasional trail riding. My daughter wanted to make a change and switch to Western riding and I really wanted to learn as well. It was important for me to find an establishment that offered '"authentic" western training. Let me tell you,it's difficult to find a true Western horse trainer in Southern California, but sure as heck we finally did! The barn was a little difficult to find but all you have to do is look for a blue door. Also, initially I was a little put-off by the "seemingly" disheveled tack room but I got over it quickly and so happy I did! Rick Baer is the owner and main trainer and he also has Ali & Laura who are the sweetest and most patient assistants! At first, Rick was kind of quiet and came across as perhaps a little on the gruff side but after a short time he warmed up to us and is truly a funny, an extremely talented horse trainer and all around really nice guy. The girls were so patient with me and have helped me progress leaps and bounds! In no time, Ali had me doing Lead changes, Loping and Fencing. My daughter is now addicted to the Western discipline and the exciting part is that she found out that recently one of his students was awarded a college riding scholarship through his program. I honestly can't say enough good things about this barn. They are all truly invested in working to make you a safe rider and all around good horseman. It's a fun place to ride, to hang out and all of his students & clients are sooooo nice. They are the real deal and Rick is a genuine Cowboy! read more
