Around the lake by the tennis courts there is also a free little library that have good quality books and sometimes I saw a stack of CDs as well. There's a good sized green area as well with a covered bench areas spread throughout. There's also a walking path with a small exercise machine area along the way. The parking here is not so great, but with Arnold Cypress back open around the corner it's become a bit better.

Parking is easy with a large lot right next to the lake, opposite of the lake are some hiking trails if you have more time. It's a nice loop going around with some different areas along the way such as a small creek, reeds near the shore, and some water works that looks like they have been turned off or no longer function. Even in Winter there are a lot of different birds around. My kids loved following and chasing the large pelicans in the lake. You can fish here and there are children's fishing competitions. Just keep in mind to have a permit because when we went there was a police officer checking and ticketing people.

Bathrooms are clean enough and decently well stocked. Parents can grab a seat on one of many benches and there is good visibility as the kids run from area to area. There are baby and regular swings, and one big flat disk that you can lay down on. There are also spider web ropes for climbing. The softball fields are great for running the bases in between games, or flying a kite in the outfield. We tend to come in the evenings when it's cold so we haven't had a chance to use the splash pad but the structures in the area are still available for climbing. The 84-acre park has been serving the community for almost 50 years, providing tennis courts, a skatepark, playgrounds, exercise equipment, public pool, indoor courts, 2 fishing lakes, basketball courts, BBQ/picnic areas & the Cerritos Sports Complex. For my recollection, my first acquaintance with Don Knabe Park came by way of participating in the Annual Youth Fishing Derby. Kids are given the opportunity to compete with other registrants to catch the largest catfish. Bait is provided, and fishing tackle is first come, first served basis. As a teenager, I became more interested in fishing, and tried my hand at largemouth bass fishing w/ lures. On my first outing, a caught a decent-sized bass. I've seen much larger sized bass caught, too. The CA Dept. of Fish & Game stocks the lakes with rainbow trout (colder months) & channel catfish (warmer months). For trout, I've been lucky using small spoons, while catfish is simply bait & wait with smelly bait of choice. For such a large park, the parking is absolutely free! Which, along with proximity, is why I frequent Don Knabe Park over others. One complaint I have, is there can be duck & other waterfowl landmines (aka poop) all over the concrete walkways next to the lakes, if the groundskeepers aren't timely at keeping up with the power washing to clear the walkways out. Cerritos' own Central Park, Don Knabe Community Regional Park is an out of doors haven, for those looking to increase their daily steps, play their sport of choice, or wet a line and see if the fish are biting. It's a great resource which I take full advantage of, and hope to continue visiting for many more years to come. Highly recommend!

There are plenty of things to play on for the kids and lots of space so it never feels crowded. The weather always seems to be great when we go. I love that there is cover so we're not in direct sunlight and we don't have to worry about rain or getting sunburnt. We always try to come here when we're in the area!
