Rick Jones has an impressive selection of quality, reasonably priced used pianos, and their sales people are passionate musicians. They're more interested in helping you find the right piano to meet your needs than getting you out the door with more piano than you need. We bought a beautiful grand piano. The experience was great from browsing to delivery. We'd definitely give them the highest recommendation.

I had an excellent experience buying a grand piano from Rick Jones Pianos. I researched a number of used piano stores in the DC metro area and Rick Jones had by far the best reputation. I made an appointment and ended up staying for 3 hours playing nearly all of the grand pianos because no one had an appointment after me. The staff were friendly and available to answer questions but never put any pressure on me to make a purchase. I came back a week later with my wife and again spent 2-3 hours making sure we had found the right piano for us. In between visits, I called another piano store in the area that had a similar piano for sale just to compare price (Rick Jones posts all his prices on his website; I had to call the other store for this information), and Rick's price was more than 10% lower. Once we finalized our decision, I called and placed the order over the phone (the store had kindly placed the piano on hold for us for 24 hours to make sure no one else bought it while we were deciding). The piano was delivered (included in price) and set up in our living room within 10 days of the purchase. The delivery crew was professional and did a flawless job. About a week or two after delivery, one of the dampers was sticking slightly (a normal result of the piano adjusting to its new environment). I called Rick Jones on a Saturday at 10am and a technician was at my home an hour later. Problem solved and amazing service! Highly recommend Rick Jones pianos! Their 10-year warranty and lifetime upgrade policies both gave us a lot of confidence that our significant investment in a grand piano would be protected.

Great experience without any hassles. Rick and Steve were great. Both are excellent pianists. Rick has been in the business for over 33 years at this location. Rick is very knowledgable and was able to answer all my questions. My wife and I learned a lot from Rick. Rick had a huge selection of pianos which were used but essentially new. Some pianos were over 30 years old in mint condition with all Original parts. He carries top brands including Steinways and Yamahas. He is located in a nondescript warehouse type building which he owns off of route 1 near IKEA. We got an excellent deal. His pianos come with a 10 year warranty and you are able to have a lifetime credit of the price you paid for piano when you trade in your piano for a higher model. We took advantage of the New Years sale and we also had free delivery. If you are looking to buy a piano, I suggest you look here. His pianos are as good as new.

Thank you for effort. You and your craftsmen are very much appreciated. Mr. Steinway would be proud. We purchased our 1963 Steinway M a few weeks and and it was delivered on Thursday. What a wonderful piece of living history. OMG ! You guys saved this beautiful piece of history! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I haven't stopped playing it. While I'm not very good, this will inspire me to get better! :) I put a "plug" in for you on my "Youtube" channel. Give me an email address and I forward it to you! Rock on... you guys are the real deal!

This is the best piano builder and second hand piano retailer we have found in MD. Everyone here is so kind and helpful. inventory is big! We went to many piano shops in town and couldn't find the one we are looking for. This place has many pianos to choose from (brands and price range). We've bought a Yamaha G5 grand piano from here and were blessed by their exceptionally 5-star service. We'd like to share our great piano buying experience and hope it can help current piano shoppers.

My beautiful and generous mother gifted me this beautiful Yamaha baby grand from Rick Jones Pianos for a surprise present.

I was actually overwhelmed by the number of guitars and amps in stock. Literally thousands. What I thought would be a 10 min max, look around, buy a pack of strings (I always try and buy something at non chain music stores) turned into a 2 hour adventure. Rows and rows of guitars. I was at first intimidated and it took a bit to get my bearings as how the instruments were organized. LPs over here, Fenders over there. Did I mention there were "like 2 thousand guitars. Then I was shocked at how reasonable the prices were. After 45 minutes I had decided I was definitely getting a new guitar that day, then what to choose? Narrowed down between 2 that I wanted and matched what I could afford that day. The guy who rang me up, saw it was my first purchase there and knocked a few bucks off and threw in a new set of slinky strings. Look if you are looking for a posh music boutique store with fancy displays, this is not the place for you. But if you are a musician looking for quality gear that is priced right and huge inventory, this is the place. I am already planning my next visit with a bigger budget.

This is the place to go in the DMV if you're looking for a new Yamaha piano…read more We were first-time piano buyers looking for a new U1. From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.

The short version: Nick is shady, he keeps you running around in circles putting off delivery, delivers the wrong piano, and then avoids paying you the money you are owed if you sell on consignment with him! The details: I purchased my beautiful satin black Baldwin model M from Nick back in I think 2015 or 2016, the purchase was smooth, and I appreciated the quick delivery and the tuning that came with it. If I were only reviewing on this, I'd have given a much higher rating. Fast forward to 2022: I approached Pianoman because I was in a situation where I could no longer keep my piano, we agreed that he would take my piano and place it on consignment, and I would receive $5,000 within 10 days of its sale. This sounded fine to me but then started the problems! This agreement was made on 5/27/2022, Nick knew I was on a time crunch since I was doing this because I was moving....8 emails (with few responses from Nick), and nearly 4 months later on July 9th, 2022 they FINALLY came to get my piano for consignment. I check in via email regularly (once every month or so) to see if the piano has sold yet, every time the response is the same, something along the lines of "not yet, we will let you know when it does" Getting my piano back: after about 6-7 months of no sale, I was in a position to take my piano back again, I message Nick again on 3/17/23 to confirm that it still hasn't sold and to arrange delivery, and he agreed to send it back. 2 1/2 months and 52 emails back and forth (where he kept promising delivery and then pushing me back week by week) later they finally call to tell me my piano will be delivered that same day (4/24/23). Great! The truck arrives, they uncover the piano... It isn't my piano!!! They send me a gloss black Baldwin Model R, mine was a satin black Baldwin Model M. I refuse delivery and instantly messaged Nick. He tells me they need to work out what happened since they are in the process of moving stores (no excuse for delivering the wrong piano) The excuse: A week or so passes and he finally tells me that the mix-up was because he had SOLD MY PIANO MONTHS AGO! And somehow "didn't realize it" (really? I doubt that). Now he tries pushing off paying me: He then tells me he will send me the $5,000 he owes me the next week or I could take that same value off the sale price of a new piano. I agree to the $5,000 (though the agreement was for the $5,000 to be sent to me within 10 days of sale, which clearly didn't happen since the piano was sold months prior without my knowledge... I should have demanded interest in addition to the $5,000 for holding my money for so long). He promises I will receive my payment by 5/2/23...Well, surprise surprise, the day he promises to send the money comes and goes and I still don't have the 5 grand. I email to see what was up and he tries to push it back another few days because "he is moving the store and his computer is down"... Not my problem, he knew when the money was expected (after all, it was the date HE promised) and this has now been a 9-month goose chase with him. Finally, on 5/5/23 he sends the money he owed me, but he waited until so late in the day to work out the transaction and banking that it nearly was pushed back again.
