BEWARE! This is a long story, but I feel like it's important for prospective future customers. The short version: Nick is shady, he keeps you running around in circles putting off delivery, delivers the wrong piano, and then avoids paying you the money you are owed if you sell on consignment with him! The details: I purchased my beautiful satin black Baldwin model M from Nick back in I think 2015 or 2016, the purchase was smooth, and I appreciated the quick delivery and the tuning that came with it. If I were only reviewing on this, I'd have given a much higher rating. Fast forward to 2022: I approached Pianoman because I was in a situation where I could no longer keep my piano, we agreed that he would take my piano and place it on consignment, and I would receive $5,000 within 10 days of its sale. This sounded fine to me but then started the problems! This agreement was made on 5/27/2022, Nick knew I was on a time crunch since I was doing this because I was moving....8 emails (with few responses from Nick), and nearly 4 months later on July 9th, 2022 they FINALLY came to get my piano for consignment. I check in via email regularly (once every month or so) to see if the piano has sold yet, every time the response is the same, something along the lines of "not yet, we will let you know when it does" Getting my piano back: after about 6-7 months of no sale, I was in a position to take my piano back again, I message Nick again on 3/17/23 to confirm that it still hasn't sold and to arrange delivery, and he agreed to send it back. 2 1/2 months and 52 emails back and forth (where he kept promising delivery and then pushing me back week by week) later they finally call to tell me my piano will be delivered that same day (4/24/23). Great! The truck arrives, they uncover the piano... It isn't my piano!!! They send me a gloss black Baldwin Model R, mine was a satin black Baldwin Model M. I refuse delivery and instantly messaged Nick. He tells me they need to work out what happened since they are in the process of moving stores (no excuse for delivering the wrong piano) The excuse: A week or so passes and he finally tells me that the mix-up was because he had SOLD MY PIANO MONTHS AGO! And somehow "didn't realize it" (really? I doubt that). Now he tries pushing off paying me: He then tells me he will send me the $5,000 he owes me the next week or I could take that same value off the sale price of a new piano. I agree to the $5,000 (though the agreement was for the $5,000 to be sent to me within 10 days of sale, which clearly didn't happen since the piano was sold months prior without my knowledge... I should have demanded interest in addition to the $5,000 for holding my money for so long). He promises I will receive my payment by 5/2/23...Well, surprise surprise, the day he promises to send the money comes and goes and I still don't have the 5 grand. I email to see what was up and he tries to push it back another few days because "he is moving the store and his computer is down"... Not my problem, he knew when the money was expected (after all, it was the date HE promised) and this has now been a 9-month goose chase with him. Finally, on 5/5/23 he sends the money he owed me, but he waited until so late in the day to work out the transaction and banking that it nearly was pushed back again. read more

We just purchased a baby grand piano, a Baldwin, circa 1980s, with walnut case. It is beautiful. The company he used to deliver it was Empire Moving, they specialize in piano moving. They did a fabulous job getting the piano down some dicey levels to the lower part of our home. Nick, the owner of Piano Superstore, was willing to negotiate because we were replacing a piano that was destroyed when a tree hit our home and we had a budget from the insurance carrier to work with. All in all, it was a good experience. I checked with other dealers who only wanted to sell new pianos and had a very limited selection of older ones. Some of those dealers did not get back to me since I was not buying a Steinway. So I highly recommend Nick. He was reliable and knowledgeable, with a wide ranging selection. read more

This place has so much potential as a community hub, but the person running the place is unapproachable, unfriendly, and rude. He is reluctant to see anyone with out an appointment and lacks the basic customer service skills. The piano selection is amazing! I hate to see this place go down. I purchased the piano early November, took numerous phone calls to Nick and finally they delivered the piano a month later. I was promised an adjustable bench with the purchase cause I have 2 kids and they never delivered it. Nick kept telling me that it will be shipped to me and it never arrived! He never return any of my phone calls and I am tired of calling him. Tuning was supposed to be included with the purchased which they suppose to do it within a month of delivery. I had called Nick countless times and he said a guy name Ian will call me to setup the tuning which of course never happened! I understand Nick is an older man but I've been more then enough patient with him and I call it quit at this point. I will call my credit card company to dispute the charge for the bench and tuning. Staff, specifically Laura, went above and beyond in helping us and was so friendly and a great source of advice and information on both purchasing pianos and maintaining them. I just bought my lovely KAWAI upright piano here. Three months ago, I passed by here, just saw numerous pianos, I was really excited and tried a lot of them! Finally, I found the one, and luckily, it also waited for me, since I noticed that pianos here go so fast. Both me and my husband love the warm and gentle sound of this KAWAI. Thanks Tony, he's really nice and patient, also he really welcomes me to the piano store and try as many as I want. Tony also let me trade in my old Clark&Story, and gave me a really good price! I just bought an upright Piano for my daughter. The store is moving to a new location and it has big sale. Nick is very friendly to work with. I found this place thru a friend, I was nervous about used or pre-own piano in the beginning, but Nick made me feel much comfortable with buying their pianos. He offered good deal and good price. My wife and I bought a superb 1976 Kawaii baby grand piano at this wonderful store in January 2015. We were so very pleased!!

Enormous selection, friendly service, and great prices. In January I was finally in the market for the grand piano I've wanted since I was thirteen years old. I stopped into the Piano Man Superstore and played nearly every piano there -- dozens and dozens to choose from. After two visits to be sure, I purchased my favorite sound on the floor -- an absolutely gorgeous 6'4" 1990 Petrov -- for a great price. During both visits, the owner, Nick, struck just the right balance of making himself available and leaving me alone to play as many instruments as I wanted. Definitely no pressure to buy, but lots of information about the piano and brand I was most interested in. Once I made my choice, followup and service were excellent. I selected and paid for my piano on a Sunday afternoon, and it was delivered the next day. The delivery team was courteous and very careful with my hardwood floors. They also went the extra mile by moving the rest of the furniture in my living room (a few times!) to help me find a good configuration with the new piano in the room. Each purchase includes a tuning and action adjustment after the piano has had a few weeks to settle in its new space. I'd made a note to call Nick to schedule, but before I got around to it, his tuner called me to set things up. The tuner was very careful and spent a lot of time making sure everything was perfect with my piano -- it sounds fabulous and performs very well! I will definitely be calling him back every six months for my regular tunings. read more

I bought a Yamaha piano here online. I was very pleased with the service. The piano was here at the previously promised timeframe. The tuner was scheduled and came within two weeks after the piano arrived as promised as well. Great service. Nick was always reachable on the phone and over email. I was asked by the Piano Man salesman Tony to write a review of my experience if the company was able to help me obtain casters for my used console piano. I obtained my piano at a storage facility when someone else was removing it from his locker. He asked if my husband and I would be interested in buying it. He was going to sell it at a flea market that he runs. Since the price he offered was so reasonable, we said "Yes"! We promptly took the piano back upstairs to my locker for safekeeping. In the meantime I went in search of a company that could install casters on the piano's front legs. (I was so excited about having a piano, that I checked all the obvious parts but forgot to look at the front legs!). One place I tried was Rick Jones' Piano Warehouse in Beltsville, Md. I spoke directly with Rick Jones who said he couldn't help, but he suggested I try The Piano Man store, which I did. I spoke with salesman Tony (who was very helpful) who said he was pretty sure his repair staff could install the casters. Tony and I traded phone calls, he coordinated things with Nick, and Nick arranged to have my piano picked up, new casters installed, and returned within two days. The staff who picked up and delivered my piano handled it very gently. I'm sorry to see that others did not have a good experience with the staff, but I am very pleased with the attention I was given by The Piano Man employees. read more

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. I visited the store yesterday -- the last day the store was open. I brought my three children (ages 3, and twin 2.5 year olds) and my mother. Linda was so welcoming to all of us -- and didn't mind my kids walking around the store and trying out all the digital pianos. The selection was wonderful -- and Linda took me to a piano that was absolutely my dream piano. I'm a former competitive pianist, so am very picky and opinionated about what I want in a piano. The Yamaha C3 that I ended up purchasing out performed the other pianos (including Steinways and Petrofs) and had a timber and tone that made me melt. I know that the store is being bought out by another company, but I believe all the employees will stay -- if so, that's a great boon for anyone there...they are wonderful and accommodating and if I ever purchase another piano, I will absolutely be back! read more

One of the legs on my 50 year old piano was accidentally destroyed. I called the Piano Superstore in a panic to see what they might suggest and Nick Margaritis told me to bring in the remaining leg and he would see if he might have something similar (from salvages of old pianos) in stock. In December, 2012 I purchased my first digital piano - a brand with an excellent reputation - The Salesman Kip Larsen, was most helpful, especially when after I had the instrument for a couple of months, it would turn on, but I couldn't get any sound - within a week, the piano movers were came and got it, took in for diagnostics, when Nick turned it on the worked beautifully - couldn't find the issue since it was working well, so back home it came, once again worked well for a few months, same issue developed, before calling, I gave it a hard whack with my fist and it worked fine, again for a couple of months. So, called Kip again, to find out that he had retired and moved to Florida, so I began dealing with Nick Margaritas, he was most helpful and decided enough of dealing with the Roland. He invited me to come in and see if there was something else that I liked. Did that, bottom line, I have my new digital, albeit not a Roland, but what I believe to be a much better product. I also worked with Kip, and had a really satisfactory experience, including followup. Looking at the date of the other review here that mentions Kip as having abandoned them post-sale, it's evident that these buyers had the misfortune of working with Kip right before he quit working there. Kip retired in the summer of 2013. That explains that. read more

In July 2016, I contacted Piano Man about purchasing a used grand piano. Tony Rubino emailed and called me back promptly. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the makes, models, and sizes that I was seeking within my budget. I appreciated that he didn't appear condescending or was pushing his preferences onto me. The store had a huge inventory and variety of pianos. I met Tony and found him just as helpful as he was over the phone. Earlier that day, I had gone to Rick Jones Piano down the street and did not have a favorable experience. I felt unwelcome at the store and found Rick Jones to be unhelpful, which is surprising given that I had several people recommend Rick Jones to me. I was in a cautious mode, but Tony encouraged me and my son to try any piano in the store. He was not like a pushy car salesman but someone who shared appreciation of pianos and wanted us to find one that suited us. We settled on a used Schimmel grand, although we were originally considering baby grands. He negotiated a fair deal for the purchase and delivery of the Schimmel as well as the trade in of our upright. As we were leaving, Tony gave a small bust of Beethoven to my son to encourage him in his piano. That small gesture was much appreciated! Piano Man paid for the first tuning. Although Piano Man preferred to use their own guys, the owner Nick Margaritas worked with us to use our own local, trusted tuner. Our tuner found some sticky keys and action work that was needed. Nick worked with us and paid for the service so we were 100% satisfied with the performance of the piano. We found Piano Man to be helpful, prompt, and committed to customer satisfaction. We are very happy with our experience with Piano Man and recommend it to anyone who is considering a used piano! read more

I think the owner has integrity, which I admire, and I regret if he does end up closed. I sympathize with the difficulty of selling high-dollar ticket items like pianos to people who (a) know they can find one cheaper that's used (b) rarely really know what they're looking for and at. The difficulty I had when I went there is I was told I was practicing (?) because I was doing a finger exercise on several different areas of several different pianos. Yes... to check action, regulation timbre, repetition, etc. To see which would work me and work with me. I played bits of two different pieces (Bach / Rach) because they are stylistically demanding of completely different aspects of the instrument. I was accosted, effectively, by a sales woman and made to feel I should not be trying out the instrument, which happened to be about the least expensive one they had, a small Kawai upright. A good instrument if you're looking for good value and clarity of tone in a manageable size and weight and volume for an apartment or small room. I would go back and buy it, but... she made me feel like I should spend my money elsewhere. Shame for the owner... I made an express trip there because I understand he's selling expensive things and needs people like me - old-school kids who practiced until tolerable and then played games outdoors, instead of watching television of making loops on laptops. Us buyers are fewer and farther between, and his sales staff should be able to discern someone with money to spend and the ability to play... indicates probable sale! If you go... buy something cheap and cheerful, and don't expect much in terms of niceness or courtesy. Don't plan on a real test drive either...If you are a musician... well... YMMV. read more
