Rick , the owner his wife and all of the employees have been extremely polite to us, upfront, and very honest. They tell you what you need and you can make your own decision as to what you want done. They also provide a wonderful sitting area that is like sitting in your own home watching TV with comfortable furniture, coffee, and whatever else you care to drink I suggest that you try them for yourself and make your own decision. Do not use this company. Rick, the owner, does all the talking. I guess he can't trust any of the five other people sitting around the front office, doing nothing, to lie as good as he does. And he charges six times more than the other mechanics in town. I needed a Throttle Position Sensor replaced. I knew this because Auto Zone had run a scan (free). I left the car with him and a few hours later he called and said I needed a Throttle Body. But I had told him that two Throttle Bodies had been tried and did not fix the problem. He talked me into doing it anyway, because afterall he had better sources. He said if this did not fix the problem, I would have to pay the $425 labor charge. Overnight I realized he did not say anything about the sensor. I called him. He said that it did not show up on the scan. I asked if couldn't install it anyway making less labor than having to take the Trottle Body out later to do it. First he said no, and then said he would if it looked like it was needed. I had second thoughts about all of this. I went back to this shop the next day and said I wanted to pick up my car. He was furious. Said I would have to pay for the Throttle Body, even though he had not receive it yet. I reminded him that he had said he could return it. His response was he could only return it if it was defected. That is not what he had said. He had said he could return if it did not fix the problem. He kept arguing about this. So I said I would this police, punched in 91 and said 'okay, you do not have to pay for the part.' He printed out what labor had been done. And there on his printout was 'Throttle Position Sensor defective.' Do you see? He was going to install the Throttle Body and say he did not work but I had to pay $425 for the labor. By the way, the first two times this had been done the labor charge was $75. So I ended up paying $88 for the same scan Auto Zone had done for free. And yes, there is proof that a simple scan was run, not a Diagnostic Test. I went immediately to Auto Zone, they ran another scan and Rick's scan was recorded. Rick also charged me $20 for a relay that retails for $5-$10. And he charged $60 labor to replace it. The labor time to do this is at maximum 2 minutes. That includes: unlock car door, flip hood release, lift hood, open top of box that is sitting at hood level, pull out relay and plug in new relay. So do not go there, do not ever trust this guy. (By the way, I am a 78 year old, female with gray hair.) Nice guy, right? read more

Had somebody told me that Ricks was the place to go for all your auto needs. I went there yesterday because I have a slow leak in my tire, they were incredibly rude and also told me they needed my registration. Why they need my registration for a tire repair is beyond me. They said it would be approximately 45 minutes to do my tire repair so I went ahead and left. Probably would have stayed if they were even slightly nice.. needless to say, I will never go to Rick's for anyting. I ended up going over to Advanced tires, took me right away and didn't need my registration LOL great they had me in and out in 15 minutes and they were actually pleasant read more

Charged me for an inspection, place an inspection, illegally placed an inspection sticker on the vehicle after it was deemed "not driveable." HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Took my car to Ricks's for a cam, valve train upgrade, headers and stall.... fast forward $9,000 later and many, many months and I have a paperweight. Rick said the vibration was a drivetrain issue... three months in his shop (from October to January) and he can't figure it out. I take the car to two other shops and both find the problem in 10 minutes. It's in the engine. I reached out to Rick and he wants nothing to do with my car. I expected more competence and professionalism but now a "vibration" that he received in October is the passenger side of the engine is low on compression and the car is not drivable. I have been taking all my vehicles to Rick's faithfully for a few years now. Never had a bad experience. Weather it's for State Inspections, Tires, Oil Changes, or major repairs, they know their stuff and there is no BS involved. In my opinion they have been great at locating the cause of intermittent problems, or phantom noises and tracing that to the part that needs replacement or an adjustment, you know, the types of things that other places give up trying to fix, or treat the customer as if they are crazy or stupid when describing the symptoms. The staff has always given me first class customer service and respect for my interaction. For instance I like to check on the progress of the repairs if I have dropped a car off the night before, and they are always cheerful and never act put out or irritated when I call for an update. They always take the extra time to research the problem and present me with my choices and are competitive and fair with their pricing on repairs, rather than quoting a price that ends up being way off, or having to do a lot of extra things that were not known before they start the repairs or maintenance. Could you find a place that would cost less? Maybe, but I've been down that road, when out of the area and it would have been too far to tow the car to Rick's and the peace of mind and confidence I have when I take my car to Rick's is worth what I might save by going with another place, plus Rick's has always finished on time and at the estimated price or under the estimated price for me. read more

Dropped my car off for an oil change. I paid for the oil change before it was done since they would be closed when I returned. What a surprise it was to find an envelope left in the car with the receipt and over $5.00. It turned out the oil change was less than what they originally charged and refunded me the difference. They could have kept the money, I would have not known, but to be that honest to refund me the difference has to say something about this company. read more

I love this company, the staff is very nice and friendly. They have a clean & comfortable waiting room, but will also give you a ride if you need to go somewhere. You can also drop you car off after hours, so they are very flexible. I also feel that they are honest and have fair rates and make sure that you understand everything. When was the last time your final auto repair cost was LESS than the original quote? AND there was no pressure to buy additional services? These are the pleasant surprises I recently received at Rick's. In addition, their original quote was 20% cheaper than the price offered by a mechanic in the city. The result was excellent, the car runs wonderfully. Rick and his staff are obviously skilled at their trade - they're experienced, knowledgable and, dare I say, trustworthy. I would not recommend going here. The only thing I liked about this place is that it's a family run business . I brought my car here and they charged me an arm and a leg just to diagnose the problems ( which in hindsight I should of gone to auto zone to get a free diagnosis ). They charged me over $100 dollars to dx why my car window wasn't working, change my oil, and weld part of my fanbelt which they told me was causing noise and I didn't ask for). Dropped my car off in morning and took off work and 30 mins be4 they closed they told me I should get both my wheel bearings and hubs replaced in the back but I'd have to schedule another apt. This, they told me would cost $828 dollars and to have a window motor put in 1 window $327. I seeked 2 other opinions and both said only one wheel baring needed to be replaced ( not two ). I ended up getting the window and wheel baring fixed somewhere else (out if state unfortunately ). But saved over $600 from what Rick's auto was going to charge. My car's running great now. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are a friend/family and get a discount or you know enough about cars where you won't get taken advantage of. read more

I went for my first time to have an oil change. When I called ahead and received a price, I was told it included what I was asking for. However, after they performed the service, they charged me more and included something that was not discussed ahead of time. Maybe it was because I am a woman. It wouldn't be the first time I've experienced something like this by men at an auto care place. Also, the man proceeded to complain about another customer, talking degradingly about old women. We discovered a nail in our tire after lunch and found Ricks on Yelp. They repaired the tire in about 20 minutes at a reasonable cost and had a nice waiting room to boot. This is obviously a well-run very popular family enterprise which I highly recommend. read more

Can I leave a minus stars? This place is insanely over priced. I had a brake job done a month ago on rear brakes cost me 170. but that garage was not open the day I was off to get this done so I went to Ricks after 4 hours they looked at it tried to tell me I needed to flush my dirty brake fluid really? they came out with a bill for 600. Now I thought for the brakes would be around 200 I also needed 2 blubs replaced that are for brake lights and turn signals and one of my high beam bulbs they wanted 68 plus tax for. My simple brake job cost me 340 for front brakes they left my brake light on they seemed so worried to clean my lines but they never bled my brakes. What a complete rip off and they charged me 25. to throw away what? My old rotors and brake pads I would have gladly done that myself I can't afford this at all this was absolutely the biggest rip off I will never ever go there again I would rather walk. I will warn anyone I see to run from this scam . read more

Rick's Auto has a great waiting room, but that is the extent of the good things I have to say about this business. I took 2 cars there to get inspected this year thinking it would be like any other garage that does inspections. I work on my own car and I make sure they are mechanically sound before taking them to a garage to have them inspected. For the last 8 years this has been a breeze (even in PA where inspections are way more strict than VA). However, after a visit to Rick's I was completely caught off guard by both of my cars failing their inspection unless of course I was willing to give a significant portion of my paycheck to get work done. FIRST- they say I needed a belt that was less than a year old... They have it replaced in 30 minutes and charge for 2 hours of work. Therefore 30 minutes of labor cost $90!!!!! THEN- Wiper blades that they quoted me on a $20 for labor fee to install them (this is commonly done for free at any auto zone or advanced auto). ON TOP OF THAT the wiper they said "failed" the inspection only had a 1/8" tear in it. Then they would not pass the license plate lights because 1 of 2 was out. Every other garage would have passed those things and let you go as long as you took care of it in the very near future. Ricks Auto of course would not allow this and still wanted more of my hard earned money for a re-inspection fee. This place is a scam and they are out to get as much money from you as possible. I'm sure if you take your car here to get work done or even a simple inspection, you will walk away with a slue of "issues" with you car and an empty bank account.
