(Zero stars if I could) After speaking with Rick, he assured me he could handle my boat seat upholstery. He even pulled out what he claimed was marine-grade material to color match. The seats came out looking good and the color match was close enough. Unfortunately, just over a year later, the material started splitting and cracking badly. I contacted Rick and sent photos, and he asked me to bring the seats in so he could take a look. Before doing that, I went to several other upholstery shops for a second opinion. Every one of them said the same thing: the material had clearly failed, and the shop that did the work should stand behind it and redo the job at no cost. When I brought the seats back, Rick told me he didn't know what material to use and suggested that I find and buy the material myself, and he'd redo the work. I did some research and found a reputable supplier, Keyston Brothers in San Francisco, who even offered to send him free color samples and could provide the proper marine-grade material at a great price. After I shared that with Rick, his tone completely changed. He said it wasn't his fault and refused to redo the job unless I paid full price again. I even told him I was willing to split or share in the cost of the redo just to get it done right, but Rick said he wasn't going to "eat" any of the cost. That told me everything I needed to know about how he stands behind his work. I've attached a photo showing the results. The material that's splitting is what Rick's shop used, while the other sections in the picture are my original material from over 30 years ago, still in great shape. That says everything you need to know about the quality and integrity of the work. It really looks like he used old stock just to increase his profit margin. If you're considering this shop, save yourself the frustration. You'd be better off throwing your money away; at least then you'd know what to expect. There are many other upholstery shops out there that actually stand behind their work and care about their customers. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.

I was referred to Rick by a friend to get my truck seat cover remade for my 79 Ford Indy pace truck. Nobody makes that seat cover and it's a pretty rare piece even in the tattered form it was so I was a little nervous of the outcome. Rick matched the different vinyl patterns perfectly, looks as good or probably better than stock, and in a very timely fashion! Big thank you to Rick for his craftsmanship and customer service, I'll be bringing all of my interior needs to him from now on without question!

It's too bad Ron J. didn't give Rick the opportunity to take care of the smudge himself. Things might have turned out quite differently.

He's pretty busy but I'm sure he could take on more jobs even though he's a one man show. We scheduled the job about 1 week later since it work better for us. He arrived a little late but BART was having a bunch of shut downs so traffic from the East Bay was bad. He kept me informed so it was fine. His van is loaded with all the tools and equipment needed to do the job including his own generator so he doesn't need electricity from your house. He carries many colors of fabric in his van and found a very close match to our car. Note he was able to match a 2003 Toyota Camry! He quickly got to work setting up and then removing all the interior trim and then the head liner panel. Pulled off the old fabric and proceeded to grind away the deteriorating foam. Vacuumed and prepped the panel to apply the glue using a spray gun. Once the glue set up he applied the new fabric pressing it into all the nooks, crannies and contours. Finally trimming and wrapping the fabric around the perimeter edges and cutouts. Alex is quick and efficient. Overall it took him only 3 hours start to finish. His experience shows as he did the job diligently step by step. The entire time he was conscious to keep our driveway clean. I won't say the price here but it's "really a great value service". (I got quotes from a couple auto body shops). Includes one year warranty. He mentioned he takes all forms of payment but note using a credit card he requires a 3% fee surcharge. I paid via Zelle. Too bad I can't give him 10 stars! Thank you Alex

On the blue section, and there was some over-spray and it has a yellowish green tint. It took him a few quick minutes to mix some dye and he didn't really spot check for match. I asked if he could match it better but he said it could make it worse. There was also over-spray. Frankie just blocks off the untouched spot by holding a piece of cardboard. It wasn't precision and care. Also, deep scratches could be sanded, smoothed and polished to match, but he doesn't go to this level of service. He just applies putty over it and lets you know it will leave a lump. However, the match on black was very good, almost perfect. But it felt rough due to the over-spray. Overall, I had expected a more precise hand polishing process and care for matching, but it was just quick spray paint. Deep scratches really didn't get resolved. The car is now a collectors item. I was hoping for a level of quality that matches the prestige. EDIT In response to the owner; I do not use Yelp much and do not write many reviews. But they are bad experiences that are memorable enough to share and I provided evidence (invoices and pictures) to support it. The owner's lack of accountability in his response should be a concern. I've had someone asking about his work the past few weeks (2025: 9 years later) and it prompted me to help this person and update the review and even tone it down a tad for the owner's benefit. 1 and 2. The pictures uploaded appear the same quality as the original but resized. Don't believe otherwise as the owner leads you to believe. Many of you have uploaded pictures and know this is is a lie. I believe Yelp will also dispute the owner on the quality of their site. 3. As for repairing scratches, I had no issues and mearly shared the level of service ($350 - in 2016 dollars) for the community, but the owner has a problem with me sharing it. 4. The car was just as pristine in 2016 as today 2025, 1,500 miles later. I have the invoices on the work, dated before Frankie's job. In fact, I should probably write a review on it since the owner seems to have a problem with me not writing good reviews, especially if it is redundant to many other good reviews. 5. The owner is lying about the date of the job and timing of my review. The job was done on 2/6/2016. My review was dated 5/7/2016. I moved away from the area June 2016 and was very busy with preparing for the move and finishing up my life there. 6. The owner claimed he could make it right, but as he mentioned during the job, he did not want to fix the mismatch. I had no reason to contact him further. I moved to a different area a few months later and had more important concerns than the owner's job and was fine with just writing a review. The owner needs to own it.

His shop has…read morerecently been renamed and moved just one block down to 296 139th Avenue in San Leandro, but it's still the same AWESOME Larry that everyone raves about -- and now I understand why. Larry does truly top-notch work and clearly takes a lot of pride in what he does. I came in to ask about my convertible soft top, and he didn't just rush me out the door -- he took his time, explained everything in detail, and gave me extremely helpful and informative advice. You can tell he really knows his craft and has years of experience. He also gave me one heck of a deal repairing my S2000 seats! What I really appreciated was that he gave me different ideas and options specifically to help save me money. It was very clear he was watching out for my budget and not just trying to upsell me. That level of honesty is rare these days, and I truly appreciate quality workmanship combined with genuine honesty. On top of that, Larry is just a genuinely kind-hearted person and a pleasure to talk to. It's rare to find someone who is not only highly skilled but also honest, patient, and truly cares about helping customers make the right decisions. If you need upholstery work, convertible top work, or seat repair -- Larry is the guy to go to. Highly, highly recommend. 5 stars all the way!
