That dealership said I needed to replace my Master Brake Cylinder - cost/labor $1300 (before taxes). An acquaitance referred me to Pounds Automotive to have a look. First, Paul (the owner) heard me describe my problem to his receptionist and advised me to bring my vehicle in for a check of my brake fluid level, marked the level and I brought it back the next week. The loss of the level was minimal and would require a further investigative look. Resulted that indeed the master cylinder seals were leaking and for a master cylinder replacement/labor would cost $324 (tax included). I will always rely on Pounds Automotive) to give an honest maintenance or repair of my vehicle from everything needed rather than go to a dealership who have too much overhead which accounts for overpricing of any work. Pound's expertise certainly matched or exceeded what any dealership may offer.

In most situations, I've given up and simply take my car to the mechanic; paying for labor and hoping the work is done correctly. This past weekend, I visited Shadetree for the first time. There are four open bays (two with lifts) and tons of tools. The shop is heated (nice when its cold outside), and the owner is super helpful (side note: Ask him about his track days.) Being able to change out the transmission and diff fluids, on one of their lifts, in a heated garage during winter, was easly worth the bay rental change (the prices are more than reasonable.)
