I have been doing my own lawn maintenance and mowing for 30 years but due to a temporary disability I needed to find a reliable Lawn Care company. I used Rick's Landscaping for thatch removal many years ago (did an excellent job) and called Rick's to sign a contract for late in the season this year. After the first mowing I was amazed at how much better my lawn looked than after I had done it because Rick's Landscaping cut my lawn at the correct height. Then, areas were trimmed and the sidewalks and driveway (even my patio!) was cleaned with the blower. My lawns never looked this good! Although I do enjoy mowing my own lawn, it will not be easy to return to the low quality of mowing that I do after the high quality lawn care Rick's Landscaping does. I am willing to pay for reliability, honesty and lawn "care" and Rick's Landscaping gives me exactly that. I am grateful Rick's is in business in Bolingbrook. read more

Last Nov i had Jen come out and give me a quote on some clean up work for early spring 2020. Just getting rid of my disgusting pile of weeds and it was basically my dumping ground for when I did my own landscaping and then it got out of control and beyond my physical abilities to remove it all. In came Jen. I gave them a down payment. We spoke in March/April and once the weather cleared the crew got started and made behind my garage nice again; which I am sure my neighbors appreciated. Once they started on the back I asked about a quote for the front side of my house. Showed her a few pics of what I was looking for and they did it...still a work in progress as Im looking for the right decorative stone. Once its completed I'll upload another pic. I contacted Rick for some hardscape repair and was told by Rick that I was a bit "out of his area". He's in Bolingbrook and I'm in Lockport, 20 MINUTES AWAY. He then asked if a $250 fee for travel would inhibit my decision to choose him. I stated it's not the cost, but the principle of his business ethics. I really don't wish to hire a pompous contractor who's arm hurts by patting himself on the back all day. read more

i've lived in my current house in Bolingbrook for 16 years. Large 3/4 acre wooded lot adjacent to the Chicago Bow Hunters' Club. It's like living in a forest preserve. This year I had a first-time ever drainage problem in the back yard. In addition, I've had perpetual problems with a large but failed garden in the back of the back yard. I called four landscapers for advice about how to remedy the drainage problem and suggestions about what to do with the garden. In addition, over the years I've probably used 10+ different landscape companies for yard cleanup, mowing, some garden work, etc. I've seen Rick's trucks and crews around Bolingbrook for a few years and included him in the companies I called about the drainage problem. He came out a day or so later and spent the better part of an hour with me in the backyard, taking time to identify and explore some of the buried corrugated drainage lines running through the back yard. He was patient, informative and obviously very knowledgeable about drainage issues. He provided a written estimate for repairs he thought might solve the problem, but he was also very clear that if he couldn't repair it his solution would be to install an additional 50-60 feet of pipe, at an additional cost. He was very clear about what he would do and what the total cost could end up being. The kicker was that if the repair approach wouldn't work he would eat that time and cost, and not add it on to the cost of the permanent solution. Having gotten other estimates and understanding what other landscapers proposed doing, Rick's was the most clear, reasonable in scope and reasonable in price. I selected Rick for the work and could not be more pleased with what he did, how he restored the yard when he was finished, and his follow-up. In addition he proposed a simple but very effective solution for the garden in the back of the yard, which now looks better than it has in more than 10 years. Since all this I've had Rick's company handle some other landscaping work in the front of the house and have been equally impressed with the quality, timeliness, price and results. Of all the landscapers I've worked with since living here I find Rick's to be the most professional, reliable and fairly priced company I have used. I don't give endorsements easily, but told Rick I was going to write this one in the hopes that others will read it and give him a call for small or large landscaping needs. It's been a few years that I've been dealing with the fallout from the project I had done with this company and since I spent a lot from my savings to get it done I've not been able to get it fixed but every spring it's so upsetting and just keeps getting worse. I was charged $2k to pull up some bushes to extend my yard a few feet and to plant some grass. The project was put off several times, quoted in May but didn't get it done until early July during a heat wave. I asked at the time if we should wait to plant but it was brushed off. Rick said they would come back in September if it didn't work but that never happened. I watered the heck out of it but only patches took and they are sparse. So about 1/4 of my yard is just a mud pit when it rains and nothing grows there but weeds. To fix this would be expensive and I blew my budget on the original project thinking I would just spend the money on someone good and that would be the end of it. Clearly Rick would rather take the money than do the right thing and wait until the appropriate time to start the project aftet delays that were on their end to begin with. read more

Update to my previous review: We're still using Rick's for our lawn care needs, and are very happy with their service. As far as our landscaping, the yard looks even better than it did last year. The red bud tree he planted did not do well, so we called Rick, he came out and looked at it, and immediately said, "I'll replace it." No excuses, no argument, and it has now been replaced. Rick's isn't cheap, and I'm sure there are others who are less expensive, but we are very happy with the service we've received. Sometimes (often) the cheapest isn't the best! read more
