I was referred to Rick's Refills for my printer problems. Rick said that if he can't fix the problem, then he won't take my money -- surely a sign of a business man with integrity. After an hour of hanging out at a nearby Starbucks, Rick called me and was able to solve the problem for me. Turns out that my printer accidentally ate a memory stick -- which reminded me that I forgot that I put the memory stick on my stack of paper feed in the first place. Nonetheless, Rick diagnosed my printer and said that it looked new and in fairly good shape. Also, he was able to recover the memory stick! He also offered to refill my empty ink cartridges, black and color. I think the total was $35 for the printer jam, $15 for color and $10 for black ink refills. I don't remember, but it was about $60 total and was well worth the price. Rick did a good job of solving the problem, and excellent at anticipating my need to have my ink cartridges refilled. I would recommend his services again for people that had a similar problem like mine. =) It seems like he's the best guy to go to for printer problems. The only thing I'd note is that he's a tech guy, so he can be pretty curt over the phone or in-person without realizing it....otherwise, trustworthy and mild mannered. Thanks for reading! read more

Wound up resetting my printer page counter to get me through the weekend, then travelled down to Ricks where we got a HIGH YIELD print cartridge for the price of a standard yield cartridge down at Office Ripoff. SO much better to shop LOCAL here in Austin whenever possible. Thanks Rick! read more

I got uncharacteristically nostalgic with the " buy local" trope and made the mistake of taking time out of my workday to make the trip during Rick's inconvenient hours. I had empty toner cartridges and a broken imaging drum that I thought he might be able to help with. Instead of a " how can I help? " kind of joint, I found Rick himself to be more of a " what do you want?" kind of guy. He was quick to tell me he can't compete with online prices, which is why he's playing that " buy local" song everywhere he can. If buying local costs you $30 more( even paying shipping to the other guys), you have robbed yourself to feed someone else. Don't fall for that. I got next day shipping from the online guys and didn't lose another minute of productivity on Rick's expired business model. read more

You can't go wrong with a locally owned business that's environmentally friendly! My printer is about 5 years old, but he has the cartridges I need in stock. This is where I get all my cartridges from, and they've always been in stock whenever I've stopped in. I've never had any problems with any of the cartridges I've used and the prices are about half of what you'd pay for a brand new one. So they're green on two fronts: both the environment and your pocketbook! read more

Glad I went in. Took a printer that just stopped working. Rick troubleshot it and figured out it was the cord that had stopped working and dug our a used one from his supply. Charged me a few bucks for it and the printer was up and running again. Would certainly go back again for cartridge refills. read more

Don't waste your time. His web site says refill while you wait. But he never has anything in stock. So this scenario never will never play out as refill while you wait. Can't stand people who have no common business sense. He should at least remove the refill while you wait on FAQ to spare himself the same questions about refills over and over. Rick stands by his warranty and helps you troubleshoot. We have been purchasing from him for numerous years for our business printer. Recently we had an issue with our printer and weren't sure if it was time to buy a new printer or if we just needed a new cartridge. He took the time to troubleshoot over the phone with us and when the problem wasn't resolved he came by to check on our printer. The issue was a defective cartridge and he is replacing it free of charge because it is under his warranty period. Not many places are willing to work with you and help you solve your problems, even fewer people are willing to stop by and take a look. Put away your SAMs or Costco card and give him a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Had the ink cartridge refill I needed in stock. Warned me that my printer might "act up a little" when installed, and it did. Rick took the time to explain to me how to remedy that issue without me even having to ask. He rated my printer on a "cost effectiveness scale" that he has in his head and then offered to advise me which printer was most cost effective for my needs before I buy my next printer. This guy is great. Totally customer service driven. I've called ahead a couple of times to tell him that I'm running and he's waited for me everytime. Not only that, his prices for ink is about half off of what you would pay at office max or some other store. Exactly what everyone else said. I work with a company that prints a LOT. The contract company that comes out and works on our printers put is in touch with Rick's Refills and we decided to use him for print cartridges. From Xerox, the cartridge would cost $379. From Rick, it $179. He can even order new parts if needed. Also, he really is customer service oriented. He really makes the effort to get thing done quickly and for a great price. read more

We discovered Rick when all at once ALL of our office machinery crapped out at the same time. We called Rick's Refills to see if they could help us out. His quote was considerably less than all the other places we called, and despite being unusually busy at the moment, he was able to get all of our equipment repaired and back to us with same day service. And when one of our problems turned out to be just a faulty ink cartridge, he didn't even charge us. Integrity like this is hard to find in customer service these days. I found Rick's Refills by searching Yelp for "laser printer repair." On calling him, he said that wasn't really what he did, but he'd be happy to take a quick look at my printer to save me a repair bill for what might be a relatively minor problem. Unfortunately, my printer actually needed a repair (or to be replaced), but Rick was helpful with that as well, giving me the name of a reputable vendor north of the river. I'm not yet sure how I'll be proceeding, but I am sure of one thing. I know where I'll be getting my toner refills from: the local business who did me a good turn. read more

Don't you pay any attention to the boo hoo sensitive nancy's further down in these reviews. Rick seems to always be willing to go above and beyond to help with anything remotely related to printer ink. He stayed open 10+ extra min. on a Friday, so I could get ink for my thrift store brother printer. He warned me that ink jets can clog if they sit too long, and it was a gamble to go ahead get all the ink cartriges. That is not exactly what you would call a hard sell now is it? He is clear and straightforward, efficient and honest. No B.S. If some people want to call that rude, I wish more people were rude then. My printer acted all weird in the store after putting all the new cartriges in, in fact we both thought it was toasted. I called Rick to ask about the ink refills offered and he explained in detail of what I could try to check on my printer before purchasing the ink. I explained to him that I had purchased some refill ink already and it wan't working, and he gave me step by step instructions by phone on what to check for to see what the problem could be. It turns out the refill Ink I had bought from somewhere else was crappy. Rick suggested that I get the regular Epson Ink to be sure its working correctly and then If Im still interested then I could buy his refill ink and it would be guaranteed. I will definitely be going to him once I run out of my true Epson ink! Very happy about his service and the time he took to explain everything to me! read more

I brought a cartridge that had dried out and Rick had it refilled and working in about 15 minutes. Great job! A new cartridge for my dinosaur HP Deskjet 812C runs upwards of $45 to $65 retail if you can find one in stock. He cleaned and filled my cartridge for under $20! Rick has been helping me get the most out of my printers for years. I started buying from him about 10 years ago. Everytime I have a problem I call him and he has an answer or he replaces my product. I hate going to the big box retailers for ink. They are double sometimes triple the price.I used to get a Big Box Cartidge(Cost $238.00 w/Tax) refilled with Rick for $99.00. If you have an ink cartridge and you think driving to South Austin is too far, think again. Saving half off for the price of an cartridge leaves you enough change to drive back home and you'll still have enough to go out to eat at your favorite restaurant. I took up 2 cartridges from my canon printer. He said he wouldn't refill them because they suuuuuck (not in those words but pretty much yup). I was a bit taken aback but he got quoted me reasonable prices for replacements. I ended up just getting the black replaced since I really have no need for color. It became apparent that Rick was extremely knowledgable as he talked about how to get the most ink out of my cartridge and that I would still have to put the color cartridge back because some printers won't print unless you have both put in. When I bought a ream of paper he even informed me that walmarts paper was cheaper but Office Depot cost more. I'm still glad I went here! Good, knowledgable customer service and locally owned! Expert! Honest!I noticed this place while waiting in the Starbucks drive thru on Westgate and decided to give them a call after my printer was saying low toner every month. My thought was to save money by refilling it, but Rick informed me that my printer was to new and the refill ink may not be available for months... most people would stop their and hope that you call back in a couple months. To my surprise Rick asked me to bring in the used up cartridge for him to take it apart and check it out to see if maybe it was defective (at no charge) He discovered that the sensor beam was indicating low toner too early and we had been discarding them with a lot of toner left. Funny how the name brand ink distributed by the printer manufacture doesn't give an accurate read out. Rick then showed me how to put black tape over the sensor eye (so the low toner error message would not come the computer screen and then my employees throw it out to load a new one @$100 each) My cartridge life has doubled without a penny spent! Can't wait to use Rick for my next problem or when he is able to refill my current unit. read more

I rarely write reviews on yelp or other sites, but sometimes you have to acknowledge a great local business. I needed to refill an ink cartridge and found out that Rick's was just a few miles from my house. I called him to check on prices and to see if he serviced this particular cartridge and was given all the info I needed. The price for the refill was very good and he also has great prices for new cartridges as well. The whole process took about 10 minutes in my case and he was able to test it out on one of the many printers he has in his store. Then he took the time to professionally package the cartridge so it wouldn't get damaged on the trip home. As I was waiting for Rick to refill my cartridge I noticed that he had some old refill equipment from the 90s in a display case, and after asking some questions I found out that he literally wrote the book on the ink refill business. I'm not sure but I don't think you can get anyone more experienced than Rick for what he does. If you need a cartridge refill, or new cartridges or toners, or even printer advice, I would definitely recommend this local business. I'll definitely be back. read more
