When I first moved into my brownstone I got Anderson Windows from homedepot then my building suddenly got really cold. The neighborhood told me about Rick's store front. I have been replacing my windows one by one and always accommodating. One by one my rooms warmed up. The other day I broke my glass window and it was replaced the same day. The guy who came to fix my two windows today was between his late 60's or mid 70's but he was nice, experienced and did a fast great job. The woman (which her name is irrelevant as to not embarrass her) who is working as the company's front desk/phones person was unprofessional and tototally unpleasant. Her way of talking was (and is) as if some low class person was just picked up from a Harlem street to start to job on spot. She was somewhat rude and cynical and it reminded me the fact that sadly I live in Harlem that hasn't improve at all regarding customer service. Too bad for this company because even though their fees are decent I'm not sure I can recommend them to people who are looking for the whole package of fair rates and a professional customer service as well. Proud to have such a great business in my neighborhood. My Fire Escape window broke on Saturday morning. Rick had someone at my door at 8am on Monday morning. I was able to make it to work on time and the price was reasonable. They literally removed the window and had it replaced within an hour. I hope this company stays in business because Harlem needs it. Price was fair, $135 for a double pane window sash replacement. Very happy! read more

Great mom and pop shop. I always have a hard time finding vendors who are willing to do small jobs for our coop. Our last vendor was terrible they would never pick up the phone and they would not finish a job. I had called on a Saturday morning to schedule a window balance fix and screen replacement for later that week. The gentleman that I called was courteous and gave me a time frame for later that week. Unfortunately the freak snow storm occurred the night before. A lady called me at 8:02 that morning that they would have to reschedule. Our time slot was from 8-8:30 and given the circumstances I appreciated their prompt notification. They came back the following week- fixed the window balance, measured for the screen but did not take payment! They said they would take payment once the whole job was done. We did call and leave a message to schedule the 2nd visit once the screen was made. For a mom and pop shop- they obviously handle all of their own calls and so I reset my expectations of phone availability. Everything was done promptly and the price was MORE THAN HALF of the other company that couldn't bother to fix our window since it was a "small" job. I am very shocked. Sharon was really unprofessional over the phone. Distracted by something else, picked up the a second call in the middle. She complained about my accent. She has a New York accent too! She claimed the company does not service my neighborhood which is not true because the company was recommended by my neighbor! If I could give less than 1 star I would. Rick' Glass "designed" and installed shower glass in my home. From the beginning, the customer service was terrible. We were unable to get simple questions answered regarding the product, with promises of emails and returned calls that never came. Once my glass was installed, it was extremely wobbly so I asked Rick to come back on site. I was told this was normal due to the size and offered no solutions. When I expressed my disappointment in both their product and service, I was berated by Rick himself for being "difficult." If being an educated consumer with questions and an expectation of receiving at least average customer service is considered "difficult," then I think this man is in the wrong business. I strongly advise anyone in the market to seek out other options if you want a sturdy finished product while being treated with a minimal level of respect. read more

I needed new glass in two of my kitchen cabinet doors. The price was very reasonable, done quickly and Rick even installed the glass at no charge. The front desk person can be a bit cold initially but warms up with respectful engagement and provides good communication regarding pricing and scheduling. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Rick's!!!! I brought a piece of glass in that I wanted to cut to a very odd size, I was afraid that it was going to cost me at least $50.00, and take a while. I brought it in on a Tuesday had a quote a few hours later, of $15.00!!!! I was in Trader Joe's and nearly broke out in a dance. Then the topping was it would be done the next day. Reasonably priced, pretty much on the case - a neighborhood business, which I like to support. As manhattan and new york city in general get more and more renovated, expensive, corporatized, watered-down and jive, small businesses that perform essential services are getting pushed out in favor of behemoths like home depot and such. Home depot may be cheap for some things, but they sure as hell aren't gonna send a guy out with one day's notice to replace one tiny little pane of glass in a door for fifty bucks. I called Rick's 13 years ago when I first bought my townhouse to replace a pane in my vestibule door - they charged me $100. 2 days ago I called them again to replace 2 panes in the same door and they charged me $100 for both. That's what I call good value. Support local small businesses - if they're occasionally more expensive than the big guys, it's worth it for the personalized service, and to keep new york from becoming a suburban/urban hellhole. read more

Rick designed and installed a beautiful three sided frameless glass shower in my new bathroom. He was amazing. Prompt, efficient, professional and very reasonably priced. He was happy to come back to make an adjustment for no charge. I recently ordered new glass inserts for my kitchen cabinets and he went above and beyond in making sure I got what I needed. I stopped in at Rick's to inquire about repairing my beveled mirror. I live around the corner. The lady in the office gave me an appointment 1 week from that date. I asked that I be notified if there were any changes. No one showed up at the time of the appointment. No one called before or after the appointment to offer an an excuse or apology. Since I really needed the repair "I" called them to reschedule for later on that day (after getting someone to be at my home to receive them). Because they did not call to confirm or cancel their previous appointment, I called to confirm that someone was at my home to accommodate their entry for the new appointment. AFTER ALL OF THAT, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT AGAIN!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!! read more
