My son and I tried Ricky's for their $10 breakfast special. It wasn't very busy, there were mostly empty tables. It took about 7 minutes after we were seated for our server to come to our table. I asked how she was and she replied busy. She then expected us to order right away which we did. We asked for water with our drinks as well. Our food was slow to come from the kitchen but was good. We both had the Denver Sandwich. We asked again for water, our server said she would bring it out. We never received the water or an offer to refill our drinks. The server placed the credit card terminal down and we never saw her again. It's a nice atmosphere and decent menu but the service was enough to deter us from going back. read more

Food so disappointing.... Party of 3 senior men Coffee cold/was re-served. 2 orders 2 pieces fish & chips. Chips were COLD One fish order ok...just "ok". Second order tasted fishy, batter gooey inside, burned outside both pieces...greasy. Most left uneaten. Server obviously inexperienced tho' pleasant young woman. We were a table of six. We all ordered different dishes and everyone loved their meal. I had a Cubano sandwich, something you don't see too often on menus and it was fantastic. For a family style diner, they have quite a varied menu including duck poutine, chicken, fig and Brie sandwiches. Loads of choices, reasonable prices and generous servings. Service was excellent. I've always appreciated the food and service at Rickys. I had never visited the South end Nanaimo location before and was a bit hesitant to try it because of the area of town it is in. I know...my bad for thinking that way. I showed up on a busy Sunday morning with about 13 others. There was only about 3 waitresses on staff. We were greeted and seated within 5 minutes with this large group which I think thought was impressive. The waitress we had (name is escaping me, older blonde) rocked it. She took all the kids orders first and got their breakfasts started before taking all the adults orders. It didn't take long for our breakfast to arrive. She topped up all drinks while we waited and when we were eating. Very happy with this experience here. Will return for sure! Oh and my BC Benny was poached perfectly. :) read more

My husband and kids come here at least a few times a month. I love everything on the menus and it's affordable. The kids love the treasure chest they get to choose a gift from at the end of our meals that's inCluded in the kids menu. Kids eat free pancakes or spaghetti, with the price ooo a regular meal. Stopped to have lunch after hockey game. Ordered nachos to start, burgers - old style, mushroom burger, mushroom soup and kids meal. Food was awesome! My wife got lettuce wrapped burger. Our waitress was so incredibly peppy and bright it was almost coming across as in-genuine. HOWEVER! I loved it. She was timely, happy and more than willing to modify any of our orders so ten thumbs up for this girl. I just feel bad because she must be so tired at the end of the day. Food was good. Why write a review about an all day breakfast diner? Because the ownership has changed... so has the menu selection and the prices. Seriously $3.50 for a coffee at breakfast plus the increase in price to all menu items and the reduction in its quality.... I would of liked to give it zero stars. It is no longer an "as expected" breakfast... it is now expensive, slow, sub par... I should of realized when at 09:30 on a weekend that it had no wait for a table. And if I would give less than one star I would. We were 4 adults 2 children and a baby and were sat at 2 tables ( as expected for covid rules) We waited 15 min after being seated to placed our drink order and After 20 minutes we finally got our drinks then after being there over an hour we finally got our food which was obviously sitting under the light for who knows how we long and everything was cold, eggs were rubbery, the butter on pancakes wouldn't even melt! Let's just say it was one of the worse meals everyone of us had! We complained to the manager and she had apologized and had said the kitchen was backed up. We finally got our bill after being there for 2 hours to noticed that they hadn't even offered to give us a discount after we had complained about the food and service. We asked the server why we weren't offered anything for the poor experience we were having. The reasoning was because they said they remade everything which is a not true. They remade one hash brown and had re-warmed the noodles with butter for one of the kids cause the butter was missing and the noodles were cold! Completely missed the baby's breakfast. Once we asked to talk to the manager or owner because we were unhappy with the food the owner refused to come talk to us and apparently left to go to Costco! So needless to say my husband still had to pay our bill at full price because of the owner unprofessionalism. We will never step back into that establishment. I had their endless Belgian waffles. The waffles and the fruit compote are good but the service is dismal. Took forever for the waitress to come back so I could order a second helping and completely absent when I wanted a third. I guess the idea is offer endless and then don't ever come back to get the order. Add to this the manager expressing his political opinions at the table next to me. It isn't that I didn't agree with him but I don't go out to breakfast to hear political talk. Doing that in a crowded restaurant is not a good idea. I will never be back. read more

While we were anxiously waiting for our food to come and not miss our ferry, I went to the handicapped/baby changing room to change my daughter. Someone was in there so I patiently waited outside the door. When the door opened, it was a Rickys staff member who was in there for 10 minutes! Food was mediocre at best. After dropping $34.33 incl tip for two to eat this swill, I can say with certainty that we'll never eat here again. Or even drive nearby if we can help it. My daughter and son in law went to Rickys Sept 10. We got there quite often however, after yesterday we will not be back. First of all it took almost an hour to get our meal because apparently the cook got it wrong so had to be redone according to our server. When we finally got our meal-breakfast, sausages were almost burned and all shrivelled up and the eggs were cold along with the toast and hash browns. My omelette was extremely greasy. The manager did come over and speak to us. There was no reduction in the bill, JUST A COUPON FOR FREE SAUSAGES AND HASH BROWNS. This is totally unacceptable and we will not be back. The food itself is decent, but every time I come in I end up waiting about 45 minutes for it which is quite annoying. I recently had an interview here with Mariko Brown (manager), and was astounded by her lack of social skills. She talked over me, cut me off, made comments about the clothing I was wearing as being 'gross and yucky' (leggings) just very very rude. She seems to abuse her power of authority to belittle those around her. Hostesses butt cracks hang out which i'm sure some of the men enjoy but not really what I go there for lol. The food tastes mediocre, and while the service is decent from some of the workers, the management staff is meh. This establishment has been recently called out for racially profiling a member of the indigenous community. Avoid this restaurant. Not only do they profile(which is by far the worst part) the service I have received the last few times I've been there has been awful. Long wait times to even be acknowledged at the door, staff and management that really couldn't care less about you. Food that is sub par and not worth it. We had a terrible brunch there today. Sausages were grey.....like they had been nuked instead of grilled. Service was beyond slow. I haven't been to a Ricky's in about 15yrs. Last one was in Burnaby BC(Metrotown mall). Walked in waited a couple of minutes to be seated. The server had to finish her conversation with a fellow. I would have been aggravated, if it wasn't required. Seat promptly after she flipped a coin in her head right or left it was quite humorous. Ordered a beer while I was being seated, came fast and gave me a couple of minutes to order no pressure. I asked the server what she would recommend (prime rib sandwich) the picture looks so good. The sandwich in person is not the same like 1/3 of the stuff on the sandwich. Could not taste the horseradish at all. The yam fries are yam fries the dipping sauce way to salty. Oops with the salt I think. Ordered the sticky toffee pudding, it was rubbery microwaved way to long. I did eat it all though. 3 stars on the food just ok. The service was great made me smile good humour & she new what she was doing. Shannon could easily served in a 5 star restaurant. Greatest service I have had in a while. Probably the worst service I have seen from any restaurant on the island. Waited over 10 minutes at the front door before anyone came and greeted me. When a hostess or waitress finally came over she asked if I'd been helped yet I said no. Then I said table for 2. She said ok grabbed menus so I started to follow. She then in a ride time told me I had to go back and wait this table wasn't for me. Ok whatever maybe I missed something. From there it just got worse. It was 1 o'clock we were only given breakfast menus. There had to of been at least 10 servers on. They all seemed like lost sheep. It's a good thing inscribed first because I at least received a beverage. The waitress we had was clueless and I don't get how she has a job. It took almost 45 minutes from the time we ordered to getting our food. My kid ordered the 2+5. Scrambled looked like he may of received half an egg. I ordered a breakie bowl with now tomato. Guess what was in the bowl. That's right. Tomatoes. I would of liked to of complained to our server but we never saw her again until the end of our meal. And then gee as quick as a bee the bill was at the table. I hadn't even finished my meal yet then 30 seconds later she's back with the debit machine. This is one of my biggest peeves when dining out. The waitress was complain to the table behind us how she had to tip out 4% to the tip pool and how it wasn't fair. So guess who didn't get a tip. It's called team work without the kitchen you have nothing to serve. Your service wasn't that great. Will for sure never be going back to thus location.
