Smitty's is a family friendly chain restaurant that's almost like a Denny's, but better. The service is always excellent and the food is tastier. It's easy to bring the whole family here because there's something on the menu for everyone. There's even a little toy vending machine out front in case the kids get bored at the table. Came for a relaxing weekend, first stop for lunch. Not sure why the ratings are this low, the atmosphere was cool and fun. Ordered Clam chowdaaa: so delicious, loved the smoky flavour from the bacon and onions. Not watered down at all. Filled with ingredients I can eat with a fork haha. Personally think it's better than the one at the Seattle market place(?) Crab cakes: two pieces, tasty red pepper jelly? On top. Real crab meat, not bready or doughy. I have been coming to Smitty's since I was a kid, whenever we were in Parksville, this is where we would stop on the way back home. For those who have never been here, it's kind of like Denny's but more of a family restaurant than fast food chain. My family and I were seated immediately, & before we could even open the menus, a server came to take our drink order. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with ham, my mom ordered the meat lovers skillet, and my dad ordered the Denver omelette. All of our food came out pretty quickly and was good! Really good service by a small staff but the coffee was waaaay too strong. We both had eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly cooked but were served on slices of back bacon that you could almost see through and what was said to be English muffins which were smashed flat and tasteless. This place used to be a decent place to get breakfast, but it seems screwing over the tourists is now top item on the their menu. You can't even buy a complete breakfast for under 14 dollars and if you want anything else it's 4 bucks an item. I will never return. Went early for dinner at the Parksville Smittys. Couples after us received food long before us, but ok we had ordered the Prime Rib. The Yorkshires were like day old buns, yuk. The prime rib despite being paper thin were chewy to the point of chew, spitout! The gravy tasted like water. They forgot our cocktails but we wish we hadnt reminded them as the ceasers were as tasteless as the Gravy! We didn't eat the dinner or drink the cocktail, paid $45 for this disgusting dinner and despite telling the waitress that it was too horrible to eat, seems she told no o e as the hostess when we suggested they fire the cook. I can't even give this place a one star rating I am from the comox valley and have been a resident here for over 6 years I have not had a good experience from any Smitty's restaurants even the one in comox valley today I was down in Nanaimo with my family visiting me and we were down in Nanaimo and decided to go to Smitty's in parksville we all got out off our cars 5 adults and 3 children only to be rudely told we don't seat that many people then she continued doing whatever she was doing but only after we got on the car we see a group off 6 people head right on in very very poor service I will not ever step foot in a place like this again I work in the service industry and if I talked to a customer like that I would get canned poor poor service read more

Went here for brunch on a visit to the Island, and it was perfectly adequate diner food. I had a pretty good omelette with spinach, cheese and mushrooms. The hash browns were a little freezer-burned tasting. My dining partner enjoyed his waffle and eggs but not the greasy sausages or the side of gelatinous strawberries and fake petroleum-based whipped cream. The coffee was delicious, and our bill came to exactly half of what it would have cost to eat at our hotel. Overall: win! read more

Worst breakfast ever. I would give 0 starts if it was an option. I went there yesterday for breakfast on our way up to Tofino and it was horrible. First off, the coffee was terrible. I had the plain eggs Benedict in the summer and it was average, so I decided to order the club house Benedict. It showed up at the same time as my boyfriend's Texas Scramble. The hollandaise was cold along with the eggs and turkey. I returned the dish and waited 5 minutes while he ate his scramble until the server decides to ask if I wanted to eat my hash browns while I waited. Finally the Benny came 10 minutes later and was Luke warm. I was starving by this point that I couldn't wait to return it again. It was absolutely disgusting. To top it off, the server still charged us for the Mel. I will NEVER go back here again and suggest you not go as well. Yuck! read more

Another retro throwback . . . Smitty's served an above-average breakfast for the franchise category . . . I ordered from the "lighter appetite" aka Seniors menu LOL, as I don't usually eat a big breakfast, but will if it's put in front of me. And it was bigger than expected . . . The two-egg Denver omelette with choice of side. Since it's a pancake house, I chose the two pancakes ($9.95). This made for a big breakfast - at least for me - I was stuffed. Cubed ham, green pepper and onion were generous with the tender eggs. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy and dry. I like how there was an available selection of name brand (Kraft) jam and peanut butter packets on the table. I didn't like the margarine cup and fake pancake syrup. I'd pay more for butter and maple syrup being offered. But this is Smitty's. I'd give it 2.5 stars still for the cooking care, and service was friendly and attentive. read more

Absolutely great service! Seemed like we barely sat down and we had menus and coffee. Just a scant minutes later, we got our food, nice and hot, bacon, golden and crisp. Very satisfying! The only thing is, I have an aversion to mushrooms and my omelette was filled with them. The restaurant didn't know this and I didn't complain about it. We finished the rest of the meal with gusto and when we were done, we got the receipt and the waitress gave me a discount because I didn't eat the omelette. I had breakfast here with my wife and children. The food is adequate, but challenging for someone doing low carb eating. If you're okay with filling up on pancakes or hashbrowns then it is probably a great spot. The small cup of fruit they offer in place of these is not adequate. I would have paid an extra couple of dollars for a bigger fruit salad. They also drench the fruit salad in pineapple juice which lost them points in my book. read more

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. We have been disappointed by this location quite a few times now, from the cleanliness to the quality of the food. I just ordered a simple eggs benedict, the meat was rubber, the English muffin was burnt, and there was hardly any sauce and what was there was very bland. I have had other people's lipstick on my coffee cups and waited over 20 minutes for service even though there were TWO other tables occupied, and more than enough staff. I just can't get over the poor quality of the food I recieved from them today. Will not be going back, time to find a new breakfast spot. One again, don't waste your time or money here. read more

I've been to plenty of Smitty's and even worked at one for 4 years and the service at this location is among the worst I've experienced. We came in to dine about an hour and a half before closing time and there were more servers working than customers in the restaurant. Our server seemed friendly enough but unfortunately, aside from taking our order, we never saw her again. We ordered an appetizer, two meals and a kids meal. Our meals arrived in a relatively timely fashion but our appetizer was no where in sight. We asked the girl who dropped off our meals if we could still have our appy even though we would be eating it at the same time as our meals. She didn't apologize or respond at all, really, aside from a nonchalant, "oh...yeah" as she went and grabbed it off the pass bar. Would it have been delivered to us had we not asked for it? I'm feeling like it might not have been! It took a while for us to get a server to box up our food for us when we were full and even longer for someone to take our payment. The front of house employees were more attentive to their closing duties than paying attention to their customers which is a shame because the food was really quite good. read more

My wife and I go to Smitty's about once a month for breakfast. We are seniors and like to split the big breakfast, two sausages,two bacon strips, two back bacon, two ham slices, three eggs, choice of sides, ( we usually choose fruit salad and two pancakes.) the whole experience is well worth it, the service, the coffee, ( no waiting for refills ) no rushing and if you would rather have the special it's right there on the board when you enter. I am a snowbird and go to the smittys for breakfast about once a week. In the time i have been going there I found the waitresses to be the most efficient and courteous I have found in Parksville. The Monte Cristo Sandwich, was made with Kraft cheese slices; commonly referred to as "plastic cheese". The waitress assured us that it was not processed cheese, but after one bite it was clear that's exactly what it was. The meal was disappointing I politely let the waitress know I wasn't going to eat it, she replied bitterly "IS IT JUST BECAUSE OF THE CHEESE?" I told her it should be made with swis cheese, this is just not what I wanted. Then she removed it from the table and avoided our party of 7, my wife kids, grandson and I. the waitress didn't even ask if we wanted coffee or even simply "can I get you anything else?" One bad meal made it a terrible lunch for us all. The sandwich was discounted only 25% equivalent to $3 apparently that was all the waitress had authority to discount, so I asked for the manager she then informed me that she in fact is the manager. After discussion and taking off another 25% leaving me paying $6 for a $12 sandwich I didn't eat, I payed the $80 bill and left even more frustrated at her ability to only make a simple problem worse.
