I am a Caucasian, and almost everything in this store is very interesting to me. I recognize maybe 20% of the things I see here- and I have no context for prices. In the back of the store they prepare fresh "hot" food "to go". There are no prices on the containers (there are many things that don't have prices marked by the way), but there is a listing on the wall above the table. Yesterday I went to get something for a snack. They had a container of 5 fried cakes/dumplings. I had never had them before - but everything else I've gotten here has been delicious, so I had 2 questions; "no meat?" and "how much $" -- and the cook (who did not speak much english) said "no meat" and "aloo" pointing at the list on the wall (it said $7). I was good to go :-) I got to the cashier, ready to pay, and the cashier said "$10"... I replied -- the sign said $7. He replied something like "this is aloo x, you are talking about aloo y" ... to avoid further embarrassment, I paid the $10... but I really had the feeling that they have two sets of prices... Ricky's is a small Indian food store that is brimming with food and spices. So much that's it hard to shop there - customers are shopping, boxes are being opened and emptied, shelves and refrigerator cases being stocked while people are checking out in front and that line sometimes meanders into the aisles - it's a busy place! They also have a good selection Indian rice in large and larger bags and fresh vegetables with Indian specialties that are hard to find like curry leaves. In the back is a small take out place. I've only eaten there once, it was fine, but I can't review it. Do you want Pillsbury frozen Nan, paneer, frozen ready to cook meals, desserts, snack packs Bombay style, bottled Indian condiments and a huge selection of spices? You've come to the right place. You just have to be patient and battle through. The selection is quite complete and my trips to Edison or Parsippany to get supplies has diminished. Just remember it's a large selection in a smaller store. One cash register and small counter. I can tell you it's busier on the weekends but during the week, you never know. But if you live in Essex County or nearby, it can be your mainstay of Indian food. read more

First time here. The staff was super friendly and helpful. There is a very good selection of fresh produce, cold stuffs, and dry goods. I was able to get everything needed for a good batch of nankhatai and anda burji! A definite recommend. read more

This review is specifically for the quality of Mangoes they carry and sell. I bought a box of Alfonso's that came 10 in a box. All 10 were bad and $55 paid for the box went down the drain. The owners tried to sell me another box of them with an offer to give me 1 mango free. Why would I buy another bad box from same lot? They have received all the photos here from me. Save your money and don't buy Alfonso's here. Chose another place. Their supplier is bad and they themselves try to push bad mangoes. I bought one because I was told they are good. Ricky's india bazaar is one of the few indian grocery stores in the area (we live in Chatham). They have a good supply of your indian basics (daals, lentils, rice, spices) all at affordable prices. They also have a good selection of ready to eat products (snacks, etc) and a good assortment of frozen products that are quite good/getting better. They generally always have curry leaves, chilis, cilantro and other spices (make sure to ask as they keep them in the back and not on display). They do have some fresh vegetables, but they aren't the greatest. One of the key selling points of this establishment is the take-away food. They make on premise a decent assortment of indian curries, tikkas, etc. They are affordable and reasonably good quality and appear healthier (and cheaper) than most indian restaurants in the area. We have been shopping here from 4 yrs. Definitely reduced the quality. The rice and flour bags have tiny worms in them. Looks like old stock. Oil bottles are close to expiry. We heard a lot about the food they make at the premises. We tried it recently and it was very bland and stale. I don't think they use fresh ingredients or heathy oils. The store is very cramped. Especially during covid we didn't feel safe to shop here. The shoppers don't pay any attention to social distancing. Looks like there is no concept of personal space. read more

From their excellent Daals, Rajma, Chola, and vegetarian specials.... to the Biryanis, Goat curry, Shrimp curry, Kababs...and Gajar ka halwa.... Their food is cooked home-style and every dish is delicious. 4. Last evening, on our request, they went out of their way of their hard and long hours to make a fantastic "Khichdi". This dish was singular. 5. We want to give our sincerest gratitude to the Dhakals for their dedication and hard work during the past month of frenetic activity and nervous tensions in America. I have shopped at this store when it first opened many years ago. I stopped going there at that time and went here recently after a friend suggested it. I was very pleasantly surprised at how it has turned around - I think the management has changed and possibly these people are not the original owners. It is a great place to get Indian groceries and their vegetables are decent. For a small store, I am surprised at how well stocked they are. I would highly recommend them. read more

We are eagerly awaiting our annual family party when we can order many more than needed of their delicious traditional veggie samosas so that everyone can take one home. They have catered our family parties for three years now and the food is just incredible. Great place to shop for everything Indian from spices to frozen dishes, freshly made meals to traditional Indian cookies and desserts. And the owners are really nice people, as well. read more
