Kam Man is still the go to Asian Supermarket in Morris and Essex counties. Selection is great, and the price is more steep. The hot food and bakery sections are actually very good. The roast pig that is only available on the weekends, and Char Siu are the best in the area. Service is usually very friendly. From the second we walked in there was an older, thin employee who very obviously followed us around the entire store. Every time I looked up he was there. He would constantly be walking passed the ends of the aisles looking down them at us or would come into the aisle to pretend to arrange bottles. He would be at the front of the store and then the back walking very quickly so he was always in our view. It was very odd and made shopping extremely uncomfortable. At one point I made eye contact with him and stared to let him know I was aware of what he was doing in hopes he would stop. I almost wanted to leave our items next to him and walk out. read more

Stopped in for some prepared food last week. Got 1/2 of a roast duck, and an order of sauteed string beans. The duck was $20, was reliably good, and it seemed like a fair price. Four and a half stars. A really well stocked market with Asian groceries of all sorts (China, Vietnam, Japan, etc.), housewares, and prepared foods. I shop here regularly to get Udon and soba noodles (among dozens and dozens), sesame oil, chli paste, rice. The array of choices is immense. I often buy plates to add to my growing collection, and always buy a few steamed buns. Solid inventory, great variety. Service is good enough. Really good place to shop. Plenty of parking. Still more expensive than Gold Valley for meat and produce, I do find some more of a canned good selection and some dry goods here. The food court used to have a great BBQ meat+veggie+rice deal, I'll have to try that again. The space where they used to have a Thai food space is now gone. The hot food bar is surprisingly amazing here which I really wouldn't expect from a grocery store.

So happy I found this Asian grocery store!! We came right when it opened on a Sunday and the bakery smelled so delicious. I was amazed at the variety of fresh and plentiful baked goods! The pork bun and custard buns were sooo fluffy and delicious. We were very pleased with everything we tried (mostly purchased baked goods and prepard foods). I was even surprised to see the precooked food counter. The store was larger than expected and much cleaner than other Asian markets I've been in. It was very organized and well stocked. I enjoyed browsing through everything including the small section of home goods. Definitely recommend and will be back soon...probably tomorrow :). read more

Decent Asian supermarket in Jersey. More of a Chinese supermarket. They have just about anything you could want in a Chinese supermarket. That's besides the point. Their hot prepared foods are bomb and is the reason why I'm even reviewing a supermarket. Mostly traditional Chinese fare for about $11 a dish. We get a variety and have it family style and it never disappoints. They have signs in both Chinese and English. Most is grab and go so don't hesitate if you don't speak the language. They also have plenty of English speaking employees. I recommend going on Fridays or the weekends for the biggest selection of hot foods. There's not as much during the weekdays. read more

Weekly shoppers, my partner and I have become regulars here. For us, fresh produce and certain staple items (rice, tofu puffs, dumplings, those d*mn coconut custard buns from the bakery that I'm addicted to, etc.) are what we get. Occasionally, I'll order from the hot food bar and get some entrees to go. Their eggplant is vegetarian friendly, as well as green beans. You can also get boba tea there. Long-time customer who is non-Asian, but who has lived in SE Asia. The store is well stocked with " pan-Asian " supplies, sauces and spices. They also have a take-out area, roast duck on most days, and offer baked goods, cakes and stuffed buns. The shop is quite clean My impression is that over the years, the prices have increased and the quality has decreased. Most fresh vegetables are prepackaged, forcing you to purchase larger quantities. Pricing is higher than in other shops for fresh or shelf products. The final straw for me, was the "fresh" fish I purchased this week (Monday 2PM). I suspect I was given the "gweilo" special by the man at the fish counter. When I got it home, the fish was quite redolent, and clearly was not fresh, nor firm. I managed to rescue it with a long soak in milk followed by Shaoxing wine. I think I will shop elsewhere and use Kam Man for emergencies only. read more

Not my favorite Asian supermarket in the world but in my opinion, it is the best in the Morris County area, so therefore it is my favorite in this area. My family shops here on the regular and I do think their ingredients are very fresh when compared to other Asian supermarkets in the area (I will not mention any names). It's not a large market but it has just enough - a little bit of everything from different Asian countries. I never have issues looking for an ingredient, it may not be the brand I want but at least it's there. I can make something completely from scratch or frozen foods that just need to heat up. There's also a food counter and a bakery. Mmm nothing like a fresh Char Siu or Roasted Pork to take home and eat over rice. They have a good variety of ready foods to-go. I have changed my review to give a deserved NEGATIVE review. The cashier who I assume is related to the owner was very harsh to my 88 YO MOTHER for being "too slow" in paying cash for her order. Not only was she rude, but she RAISED HER VOICE LIKE SHE WAS A NAUGHTY CHILD to her! Well, I forcefully told her that she SHOULD RESPECT HER ELDERS AND BE NICE!!! This is unacceptable behavior from a cashier and she should be FIRED. I would ask everybody to BOYCOTT this market and go to the one on Route 22 where the cashiers are much nicer to old people. read more

Their food court has a vast, authentic and delicious variety of Chinese food at good prices ($7-$9). It's more of a take out place, but there's a few small tables available on the side if you want to eat there. It gets pretty crowded on a weekday lunch. They also sell pastries (whole and sliced cakes, breads) but I didn't get to try them on my visit. Their supermarket was just okay though. Kam Man Foods is the closest asian grocery store to us in East Hanover. It provides the basics and more with the food stalls on the other side of the store. The buns are pretty good too. Why not 5 stars? The store carries basic items but not as much as you would find in an Hmart or 99 Ranch. We come here for the basics, for the specialty items we have to drive alittle further. Surrounding store are a bunch of asian interest restaurants and Home Depot. They take both cash and credit. Friendly staff as well that speak pretty good English and mandarin. read more

They said "a picture is worth a thousand words." My partner has reminded me that we were out of dumplings. These are dough on the outside and vegetable or meat filling on the inside. The last time we went to an Asian market was during the middle of the pandemic when we returned from Cancún in mid-March. We waited almost 1 1/2 hour outside of Ranch 99 in Hackensack, NJ on a bitter raw raining Saturday. With the aid of Yelp, I read this morning that 99 Ranch hasn't changed their policy. They were still long lines to get in and we were haven't that at the beginning of another heat wave. We took a chance and proceeded with plan b to go to this place in East Windsor, NJ. We've been here numerous times even though we had to drive a bit. We were in luck. There were no lines to get in! The store had shoppers but was manageable meandering through the aisles. I usually take my mother grocery shopping here if we don't go to Chinatown. We make a day out of it by eating at A & J Bistro or Saigon pho beforehand. We no longer go to Jasper on rt 46 in Parsippany for grocery. Kam man has a larger selection with better quality of fruits and veggie. The meat counter is just ok to me. Chinatown is still better for raw chicken,meats, and seafood. The bakery selection is just ok. We usually just get the loaf of sliced walnut wheat bread. The pineapple red bean bun is not that good. The beans is chopped not puree. Again I like Chinatown's baked good better. Shout out to Dragon Land whoop whoop. There are always people eating at the food buffet. The items don't look that fresh to me. We did try the string beans with garlic at home and it was still crunchy and tasty. I do notice ruder vibe from customers in this area. I think it's because they are more affluent and think they are entitled more. Shopping carts not returned. Their Mercedes, Lexus are parked in a spaces intended for navigating through the parking lot. Loud cellphone conversations everywhere. The old ladies with their fur coat cutting me at the pay line. The biggest rip off they were selling was a 10 pound bag of ice melt for $10 this winter They don't get you 5 cent off for bringing your own bag. I only come here to buy Asian pastries (scallion & toro buns) when I'm in the area (it's located in the same lot as a Home Depot) and when I need some random obscure out-of-season produce that I can't find anywhere else or to stock up on matcha powder. They have a decent-sized produce and fresh fish section. They also have a very popular prepared Asian fast-food/take-out section for hot foods, soups, and Asian pastries. The prices are decent overall. As popular as their take-out is, nothing ever looks appetizing enough for me to try. Also, they don't have any Vegeterian take-out food options. It is a decent Supermarket, not one of the top that I have been to. There are various different cans and jars of same types of sauces , noodles, and of dried goods so if you are particular to a certain brand , you might find it here. I particularly like the produce, vegetable, seafood, and bakery counters . All were fresh and decent priced. I Particularly liked their hot food ready counters. Some food you should try in the following sections: Bakery : 1) sponge cake in a square pan ( better priced than single cup) . The cake was moist , not too eggy , fluffy and not too sweet ; all should be a characteristic of a good Asian sponge cake . 2) coconut cake ( round pan) not single servings, a little dry and not too much coconut filling but nevertheless good. If you like red bean ; there was a red bread/ cake in a round pan . Looks good and moist but did not buy because I do not like red bean filling. In the ready made food counter: must try dishes: soya chicken ; delicious and moist . Salt and pepper prawns : good sized prawns and just rightly fried . Garlic eggplant and green beans although pricey compared to the others ( all are mostly $10.95) , I had to have some vegetables. All in all it would have cost more than $10.95 to buy the ingredients , and your time to cook it . If you have a hectic work schedule, ready made food counters are always a plus. This used to be my go to Asian market but after today I won't be coming back. Yes, their food is good especially the bakery goods. Definitely great selection of seafood. However, ever since the pandemic they have changed their meat layouts so that they no longer offer butcher service, where they cut the meats for their customers. I always get the slab of pork belly for family events and it was a great service because the precut pork belly they have is too thin and the slab of pork has the bone in it that makes the meat juicy. If you buy the precut pork belly, it's $1 more per pound. So if you're buying about $30 worth of pork belly slabs (3 packaged ones), you can imagine the additional cost. I asked the guys in the back and of course all I got was a no. I asked someone from the front and I was told the $1 extra was for the slicing. The point from their perspective was what's $1 extra dollar for the effort. For someone who's buying 3 slaps it's not an extra $1 but more like $5-8. I won't be coming back because of the lack of consideration for my ask. What bugs me is I come to this store on a weekly basis. I buy at least $30 of groceries each week and I'm sure other people do too. It's a win-win. Like how hard is it to just cut it? I see 3-4 guys in the back and it only takes 2-3 minutes. I hope management reconsiders their position on this. "It smells like fish!" - Asian markets tend to sell fish. "There's a language barrier!" - There are signs hanging from the ceiling. "Why is everything so dirty?" - It's not. "Why is there no parking?" - Other people shop here too. "The vegetables are old!" - No they're not. "Why do they never smile?" - Because you're annoying. In all seriousness, Kam Man is a huge upgrade over typical mom and pop Asian markets. This is a fully fledged well-lit supermarket. It has an organized fruit and vegetables section, a quality frozen area that keeps food chilled at the right temperature, well organized aisles based on country or region, fresh meat that is actually fresh, and a decent hot-food area that serves a variety of authentic Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. There's a solid selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asian (mostly Filipino) products available; there are Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese items available too but they're very limited. However, if you need common packaged items to dried roots to baked goods, you could probably find it here. For my fellow Californians, think of a smaller Lion's Supermarket. As for the hot food section, I truly enjoyed the braised pork, honeycomb tripe, spicy tofu, and pork and leek steamed buns. The taste for each of the dishes that I ordered were authentic and were served with decent portions; there are combination lunches and a variety of other a la carte items available. There is a Vietnamese eatery next to the Chinese eatery as well serving various Vietnamese noodle soups among other dishes. read more

It's easy to think of New Jersey as this cultural wasteland where the closest thing to foreign food you'll find is a taco at Taco Bell. Kam Man Foods puts lie to this belief. Located in a strip mall with other Asian restaurants and shops off in the distance, Kam Man is a member of the same chain that has branches in both Edison, NJ and most importantly, Chinatown in Manhattan. This pedigree comes through loud and clear when you go inside. It has all the main features of its sibling restaurant in Chinatown, including a prepared foods area, groceries, produce, meats and housewares. In some respects, this Kam Man exceeds its siblings. Their roast pork is (no joke) the best I've tasted in years, especially the pieces with a bit of slightly burnt, caramalized sugars at the ends. Their crispy skin roast pork is amazing and my uncle tells me their roast pork is awesome. They also have a very impressive prepared foods area with a wide variety of foods including steamed/pan fried buns with meat and vegetables inside (something their Chinatown branch does not have). Another section they have that the Chinatown branch lacks is a small bakery area where they sell baked goods (made in the store I believe). This includes stand byes like roast pork and coconut buns as well as fresh loaves of bread they slice behind the counter. Their grocery and produce areas are fairly standard for a Chinese supermarket. They're not gigantic, but they carry all the essentials from various brands of noodles, rice, sauces, spices and snacks. The prices are good to average, but nothing here is cheaper than the other branches, which isn't surprising given the location. You're still going to get a better deal on say, Soy Sauce or Oyster Sauce here than in Shop Rite. The produce section generally has fresh product and a good variety including more unusual items such as (gasp) Durian! The housewares section has some appliances, bowls, plates, utensils etc. and some other items, but I confess I haven't spent much time there. Overall, my visit to this Kam Man was really great and I enjoyed what I picked up there. Recommended for anyone looking for Asian goods in the area. read more
