The tasting room is modern, very clean lines and lots of space and windows so you can continue appreciating the beauty all around you even if you are inside. On warmer days, the large deck is the perfect place to sip the day away! But we are all here for the wine, and with Lynn Penney-Ash as the winemaker, you know the Pinots are going to be fabulous. The founder, Dr. Madiah Revana, has also acquired properties in Napa and Argentina, yes, Argentina, for their soil variety and climate. So if you are a fan of the bigger, bolder reds like me, you will have plenty of options. We were hosted by Michael who was personable, engaging, and full of interesting facts. I've been to a hundred+ wine tastings, easily, so learning something new was both surprising and appreciated. Our table was set for us with the appropriate wine glasses and a menu welcoming our party by name, always a classy touch. The first glass, their Signature Chardonnay (2023), was delicious! Not heavy on oak or that California buttery taste, it was light and crisp, very pleasing, very drinkable. We moved onto Pinots, a variety they are known for, and it was easy to see why. Then moved on to some bigger CA reds. On Michael's recommendation, we ordered a pizza which was very tasty and went well with the wine. We ended up purchasing several bottles, not out of pressure, but because we absolutely loved their wine. There are close to 900 wineries in Willamette Valley, and growing, we are always looking to try new places to experience which is how we ended up at Alexana. In our group, we are all members of several, yet we were all tempted to join this winery because they are a stand out in all of the ways that matter. It may be time to leave a club to make room for Alexana, a true gem!

There are a few older pinots that are really good, there's the malbec and cab from their sister wineries that's also really good, and then there's a good number of just okay wines. The owner, David, greeted us as we walked in and sat us at the large table in this small tasting room. He sat with us for most of the tasting, describing the wines in detail, telling us the history, describing how the land around Oregon varies and how it impacts the wine. It was really interesting and he so helpful and open to answering all of our questions. You can tell how knowledgeable and passionate he is about his wines and he made our experience really unique. The wines themselves were great, and we left purchasing 2 bottles of the 5 wines we tried. While they have a variety of wines, their white wines, especially the Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Blanc, were phenomenal and I highly recommend. The tastings are really reasonably priced at $25 and their bottles were also well priced. The tasting room itself is very laid back and casual. It is decorated and feels as if you are just sitting in a relatives living room enjoying a glass of wine, so if you are looking for the instagram shot of a glass of wine over a vineyard during a sunset, this is not the place, but if you enjoy kicking back and enjoying solid wine in a more laid back setting with folks who care about their wines, then look no further!

For a few years now, I've wanted to visit Bjornson but never made the time to do so. They have a stellar selection of both reds and whites. I opted for their standard tasting, which just scratches the surface of the wines that are available from this great, boutique winery. Don't get me wrong, I love the big boys, too, but there is something extra special about going to a smaller winery and enjoying a fantastic wine in an atmosphere that is more intimate. It's like finding a hidden gem next to another gem! What a treat! I was served by Becky, who was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. When I left, I bought a bottle of wine, but since it's a boutique winery and I didn't know if they'd have this other bottle I wanted, I opted for both, which is rare for me (unless I need to purchase 2 bottles to waive the tasting fee).

It was almost time to close but Dean treated us like we were his first customers of the day. What I liked most about him was his attire...suspenders and a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt topped off by a big bushy beard. Dean is a no-nonsense, be who you want to be kind of guy. He also had a Redneck Wine Glass sitting out on the shelf, which he washed out and let me drink from at my request. As I said there...the wine didn't quite open up like I had hoped in this mason jar glass. Funny, no? I will tell you that I couldn't get past his Pinot Blanc. My friend had been searching for a good Pinot Blanc to replace the one that was sold out at Four Graces, and boy did this one hit the spot! I liked it even better than Four Graces, so I bought a bottle while my friend took home an entire case. After my purchase, I felt a little saddened that summer was coming to an end soon, because it is the perfect "sit out on your deck in the sunshine" kind of wine. It is quite sweet, which is a huge bonus for me. Dean then took us into the room with the barrels and grabbed his wine thief so we could take a taste from two of them. We grabbed a picture with him, laughed a little (okay a lot) more, bought some wine and then went on our merry way. The wine was delicious, service was great. They do offer a small menu of snacks to go with the wine. They have a little shop area where you can purchase Durant olive oil!
