I've been here before for one of the Halloween events, but this day in particular I was here to actually enjoy the park in broad daylight and not at night. This is definitely the place to get a good workout in. You can walk around the mountain, which is a 5 mile walk or you can walk up the mountain which is 1 mile up. Honey, let me tell you that 1 mile up is not a joke, but you feel so good once you get to accomplish it and see all the other people attending to walk up the mountain. This is a experience for all age groups. The elderly were out there. The young was out there. The middle age was out there. Everyone was there having a good time, exercising and getting in a good stroll in the park. The Rangers are also out in the park for any assistance that you need as well. I thought I was gonna need them plenty of time when I attempted to go up the mountain, but I did just fine and I survived. I prefer to go around the mountain in the 5 mile walk where you see lots of people either on bikes, skates or walking their dog or pushing their kids in strollers it's a great experience and a good walk especially after the weather is decent. Now because I had such a good time, I have to look into getting a pass

We went mid April and unfortunately everything but that was closed. :/ we would have loved to experience the splash pad and more! The actual waterfront was open as well to enjoy. Featured events are the Athletics (big dudes in kilts tossing telephone pole-sized cabers, heaving 50# stones, and throwing bales of hay over a 30' bar with a pitchfork), the Pipe Bands (200 bagpipes at once... a glorious assault on the ears...), and the Dance competition (young girls dancing over swords, 'nuff said...). There are usually a hundred or so exhibitors: English and Scottish foods (try the haggis!), pottery, and kilts in every tartan. If you are of Scottish descent, stroll through the Clan booths to find your distant relatives - there's a genealogy booth to help you do that. And when you find yours, stop in and learn more about where you came from. I'll be at the Gunn Clan booth, sharing a drop of the "water of life" with my brethren...

It has row after row of stalls selling jewelry, weaponry, food, clothing, kilts... the list goes on. The meadow is set up for the Highland Games which are interesting to stop in and watch. And throughout the woods are little stands for all the different clans to display their tartans and info about their history. Throughout the day you can also stop in and watch the sheepdog and falconry demonstrations, highland dancing, and different music and dance stages. The best part about this festival is just the energy in the air. Seeing everyone walking around in their tartans and sense of pride they all have. Sunday is great because they have the Parade of Tartans.

Initially we parked in the wrong lot but that worked in our favor (where the bait and tackle shop is). There were lots of families out having picnics and fishing. We did a 1-mile loop in the area and were able to see the yurts. NOTED . Beautiful sites to take in before we ventured to the main lots with the visitor's center. Not only are the trails well marked, but there is ample parking across multiple lots. The attendant at the gate entrance was so kind, welcoming and JOYful! We ventured out on the red trail and it was gorgeous. To my surprise, the trail was full today. It seems that Sweetwater is a populated date spot!!! We saw folks of all ages out with picnic baskets, journals, coloring books, bathing suits ... it was AMAZING! We hiked to the end of the red trail and back, venturing off trail to be clear to the River only once. By far, this was one of my favorite hikes and definitely a place I'll revisit to explore some of the other trails.
