The vibe, service and excellent coffee here is so worthy of bragging about to me. I really loved the whole experience, and I can feel how cool it would be to just chill there with friends or to do some work for a couple of hours.

Ridman's seems like a lovely little neighborhood coffee shop. Warm, friendly service. Gorgeously presented lattes. The granola latte off the specialty menu was terrific. Tasty, flakey almond croissant. Comfy chairs and sofa seating + tables. My daughter (a new Uptown resident) definitely plans to return!

Ridman's Coffee is a cozy coffee shop on the border of Uptown and Ravenswood. I spent time here today studying and it is definitely the neighborhood spot to go, so many people came through. Luckily I came here early enough to grab a table. The WiFi was pretty weak for laptop use, I did have to switch to a hotspot. The staff were very welcoming as I ordered. I decided to try the Lingonberry Danish and the Puddin' Cup Latte, iced. The Lingonberry danish was sweet and a little tart. It was more chewy than crispy, but it was nice. The dusting of icing sugar was a nice touch on top. The iced Puddin' Cup Latte wasn't bad. The banana syrup was subtle and it was more coffee forward. The vanilla wafers added were a fun touch.

Lovely coffee shop! I came by this afternoon for a pick-me-up and to get some work done. When I arrived, there was only one other person inside, so it was nice and quiet. The staff member working was so friendly. He told me his favorite along with customer favorites, and I decided on the granola latte, iced. There is no granola in the latte, just hints of cinnamon, almond, and other nutty flavors that compliment the coffee well. I really liked it! Ridman's carries Dark Matter coffee, so I knew the quality would be great. I also tried a blueberry muffin --- super yummy! The cafe is cozy and plays nice music. I love how all the windows make it bright too! I will definitely be back to enjoy the coffee and atmosphere. It's worth noting that they close at 3pm, so best to go in the morning or early afternoon if you plan on staying for a few hours.

Better place for coffee than at the chains. It's always my preference choosing locally owned places. Ridman's is one of these. Has a pretty good location on Clark at Lawrence, so easy to get to by a bus. The coffee is the main thing, plus there's some gluten free and non dairy treats to snack on while doing some reading or something. A pretty cool little interior but usually has enough room in the morning. It wasn't even that busy in the morning the last time. This is kind of far away from a lot of things so that's probably why. A few blocks south of the stuff in Andersonville. It's about $3 for a small coffee, such as the Cappuccino. Add a bit more for non dairy milk and that's still not bad. There's also a small selection of Defloured pastries. All are about $4 each and are gluten free. There's some that's non dairy, but be careful because there may still be eggs though. Has a pretty quiet atmosphere. It's not as busy as many other places. This makes it pretty good for working.

Quiet coffee shop with an adorable interior and great coffee. I worked here the other day for a few hours and the wifi is strong (just ask for the password). The place was quiet and the vibes were good, what else more could you ask for.

This is a great coffee shop! It's the corner of Clark and Lawrence in Andersonville. Definitely has a vibe to it. Music plays while the decor keeps you busy exploring. It's a local low key place. I love that they kept the original floors, and that gives the place a sense of belonging, reminiscing of what once was and admiring the brutal beauty of its flaws. The staff is amazingly friendly and kind. They have a small selection of baked goods and the coffee is phenomenal! Probably too 10 I've tried in the city. I drink an almond latte, no flavoring, no additional add ins, just good old coffee. It's the simplicity that I love. The taste is truly amazing, but for a good latte, you gotta have good coffee to start with and these folks got it! The restroom is gender neutral with a baby changer (which you don't see in many coffee shops) with supplies available. Sitting matches the vibe, large sofa, chair and additional tables and sitting to enjoy the pedestrians and busy interception. Quiet place to bring your laptop, headphones and chip away at the workday. Overall, it's a good place to stop by and fuel.

Local coffee shop brewing Dark Matter Coffee. Can't go wrong with any of the lattes here but the granola cup latte is my favorite. I appreciate the gluten-free pastry/dessert options as well. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's generally pretty quiet here which is a breath of fresh air in comparison to other places in the area. Cool decor and large windows let in lots of light. Black and Women-Owned and very LGBT+ friendly. Wheelchair accessible including the (gender-neutral) restrooms! Easily my favorite coffee shop in Uptown!

Dark matter coffee, great vibe, free wifi, corner location with lots of big windows for an afternoon chill. I love that they offer here or to-go mugs and prices too.

I ordered a white peony tea from here. It had a herbal taste. I probably should have requested for honey to be added just to give it more flavor if that is an option. I also had the lemon ginger scone to go along with it. It was the perfect side to have along with the tea. The scone had a nice crisp on top with a thin line of glaze which contained most of the flavor. I tasted hints of lemon and ginger and noticed it had actual bits of ginger. I liked the interior of the coffee shop. Seemed like a nice place to meet a friend or get some work done. I'd like to come here again to try more of the menu options, especially the coffee.

I ordered the Iced Tuxedo Mocha (which was over $7.00) and there was no real coffee flavor while the chocolate tasted cheap. For food I tried the Raspberry Danish and it tasted store bought, which would have been okay if it wasn't $4.25. They also served it on a paper plate which was interesting for a cafe. They did bring it to my table and the staff was friendly when ordering. It was also nice that while she was walking by she took the empty plate later. Overall the food/drink was just okay and it was pricey for a "just okay" experience. The WiFi password is also super long: MoreThanJustCoffee1070!!!

There was also a slight mix up where one of the drinks was missed which was eventually resolved, but again, added to the overall wait and slightly disorganized feel of the visit. Nothing was really bad, but nothing stood out either. It just felt a bit overwhelmed by the volume of people compared to the space and speed of service. We were lucky to grab the last small round table for two.  The pastry case was only 40% stocked at this point. We were happy that they still had our favorites -- 2 almond croissants ($14 for 2) and a cappuccino ($5 + $0.50 Oat Milk) to go.  The cashier was very friendly, patient, and welcoming. The decor of the store is modern and charming.  There were a variety of seating options, and many customers were working on their laptops while enjoying their drinks, giving the café a cozy yet lively atmosphere. The bookstore occupies about half of the space and features an impressive collection of books focused on drama and theatre.  If you are interested in theatre, this thoughtfully curated bookstore is for you. We noticed a sign indicating that The Understudy partners with Defloured Bakery, which also partners with a long list of businesses, including another coffee shop in the neighborhood that we frequent a lot. We have enjoyed almond croissants and other baked goods at that café very often, they were just as delicious and large, since they were sourced from the same bakery. However, The Understudy charged $7 for an almond croissant, while the other café charged only $4.50 for the exact same pastry. That's a significant price difference. The cappuccino was another slight disappointment. It was only lukewarm rather than hot, although I am not sure whether the oat milk substitution may have affected the temperature. Judging by how popular The Understudy was during our visit, it's clear that many people appreciate its ambiance, curated bookstore, and friendly service. If those qualities are important to you, you may find the higher prices well worth it.

Sometimes my latte with oat milk comes out different prices. Price transparency is so important for consistency . Not including the prices is a bit elitist, especially when the average drink is $6-$8. You should want folks to come in and comfortably order what they can afford.
