Disappointed with Rife's of Grandview after having great experiences at their Westerville location. My main issue is that they entered my visit into CARFAX despite only providing an estimate for minor cosmetic work that I declined. I ended up fixing the issue myself with touch-up paint for a fraction of their quote. Now I have an unnecessary CARFAX entry that could affect my vehicle's resale value. I find it inappropriate to report declined estimates to CARFAX, as it implies work was actually performed. As a side note, I was also concerned about their privacy practices. While waiting in the lobby, I witnessed an estimator having multiple speakerphone conversations with clients, broadcasting personal details to everyone in the reception area. The clients clearly had no idea their conversations were being shared with other customers. While I've had positive experiences with Rife's Westerville location in the past, I cannot recommend the Grandview location based on these practices. read more

I called to take my car in for collision repair and got a receptionist. I told her that I had an initial estimate from the insurance company and she informed me that they don't accept insurance estimates and I needed to make a 20 minute appointment for their estimate. She told me in a very rude manner that their first available was on June 29 over three weeks. I told her that I already had an estimate from their Westerville shop. She said she didn't care. Either take the appointment in the 29th or go somewhere else. I'm going somewhere else. She was rude, dismissive and I have no clue why they would allow someone like her dealing with customers. read more

On August 16, 2023, we had the misfortune of a deer running into us while on Seabrook Island, SC, for our daughter's wedding. Though we called our insurance company that same day, the ensuing debacle was more than a bit trying. When we returned to Columbus, we called our dealer, Joseph's Cadillac, to see if they did bodywork. Sadly, they do not, but instead highly recommended Rife's Auto Body. And that is where things began to take a turn for the worse. Rife's told us they could not provide an estimate for nearly a month. We were also told then that the work would not be scheduled for five weeks. In the meantime, Allstate issued a check for their perceived estimate of the damages based on photos of the vehicle. The estimate between the Allstate photo estimate and the body shop differed by $10,000.00. Rife assured us this was just a beginning conversation and that they would work with Allstate to agree on the cost, but that Allstate was difficult to work with. We were relieved that Rife's estimate listed only 37.5 manual hours needed to complete the job. The 30 days of a rental car in our insurance policy should be enough. It took two months to get our car fixed. Communication between Rife's was poor at best. We initiated the only communication. Several times, we were told that they were" waiting on parts." One time, they forgot to compare notes, and one person said this when another had told us that they were working on quality and in production. For three weeks, we were told that they" hoped to have it done by the end of the week." only to be disappointed each week. All the while, Rife's knew that after thirty days, we were paying for a rental car. The week before the holidays, we again pushed for a completion date. At this time, we were told that the problem was that Allstate was not working with them to resolve the difference and that the car had been finished for two days. We then were told that the company's holiday party was that afternoon and not to expect much help. After much pushing, we did get our car, though the job wasn't completed: a damaged reservoir for the windshield cleaner was not replaced. An estimated 37.5 person-hours in labor resulted in over 350 held hours. We ended up paying an additional $900.00 to Rife and $1000.00 in rental fees for a no-fault accident. We will never go back and are currently looking for different insurance. read more

Rife's sets the standard for professionalism, quality, and honesty! No one ever wants to end up at the body shop but truly, I couldn't have had a more pleasurable experience with Josh Mink and the entire Rife's Autobody team. The insurer of the person that hit me (I won't name names but it starts with a G- and and ends with -range) was absolutely abominable. While the insurance stalled, ghosted, and gaslit, Rife's business practices demonstrated the exact opposite. Josh and the entire Rife's team communicated frequently and in-detail, and even went out of their way to advocate for me to the insurer (and that's not even their job! Their job is just to fix the car.) I can't recommend them enough. They made sure to get the job done right, to detail and itemize everything, and to explain why each repair item had to be done. I live part-time in Illinois and my experience here was so good that I'd be willing to drive two states across if I ever have to repair my vehicle again. They've made me a repeat customer for life. I'd like to give them a good review on the work the did on my car, but no work was done on my car because they won't return my calls or emails. Midwest Automotive Group recommended Rife. I took my car into Rife and received a quote within a day. I emailed them the quote from my insurance company and asked them to negotiate with them. I called for Jon twice, he's their associate who wrote the quote. Both times I called I was told he was on the floor and would call back in an 30 minutes. The first time I called I left a message in his voicemail. The second time I called I left a message with the receptionist. I never heard back from him. I also sent two follow up emails and received no response. So, since they didn't want my business, I decided to go with Combs Collision who is a preferred repair shop with my insurance. read more

I don't understand all the negative comments here. This is one of the best shops I've ever dealt with. While no one is perfect, they are very professional and fair. Yes, they cost a bit more than your chain shops and mom & pop garages... But you get what you pay for here. My 2015 Acura RDX was rear ended on 270 in stop & go traffic. It had less than 8,000 miles on it at the time. The dealer told me that they send their stuff to Rife and would be happy to handle my work with a mark up. I think dealing direct with Rife was easier than going though the dealer and the communications during the estimate and repairs eliminated the typical middle man confusion. It did take a few weeks to schedule my work but when it was in, it was quick and as promised. I believe the work was done right and the results look excellent. My vehicle was returned fully detailed (inside and out) and that was a nice surprise. If you're looking for cheap or if you want to bicker, this is not the place you want. However, if you want professional, clean, and right then call Rife! read more

I tagged the front bumper on my car and while not terrible, it was annoying me every time I saw it. I took it in and had Rife's look at it. Overall they did a great job on the repair, but I paid it out of my own pocket and I'm not sure I got the best deal. It was also two days later than originally promised. All of that being said the work was done very well and the place is neat clean and easily accessible. I would go back again, but just negotiate a little harder. read more

I have a VW Jetta and have had the unfortunate experience of needing to use Rife's Autobody three times over the last eight years. First was for a collision with a deer followed by hail damage the same week, then a few years later for a minor bump on the back of the car, then most recently for a frontal collision when a car jumped out in front of me. None have been my fault, so I've been especially keen to have my car repaired to a like new condition. If you see my car today, you would never know it had been repaired because they did a great job matching the paint color and used OEM parts. They were also good about fixing the little details that other shops miss such as warning and emission control labels that are under the hood. I can also speak to their willingness to fix issues that crop up later; my A/C wasn't working as well as it was before the deer hit, and they repaired it with no hassle. My most recent experience had an especially incompetent insurance adjuster who promised to book me a rental and didn't follow through. One of the Rife's staff was able to quickly set me up with a car and have them pick me up. On the downside, I agree that Rife's is not the quickest shop both in the delay in scheduling as well as time to completion. I'm willing to wait for the quality, but if you don't much care about your car I bet other shops are faster. read more

Super nice people. I did not get my car repaired there last trip in, although in the past they did fix my Honda Accord after a nasty hail storm, and they did an excellent job. I called them this time because I needed to mail back a defective tonneau cover I had bought for my truck. I had run around town going to UPS, FedEx and U Haul, and no one had a big enough box. I then called Rife's to see if they had a box big enough that I could purchase. Given the strange request, I really didn't have much hope they'd even entertain the idea, but boy was I wrong. They took the time to understand my dilemma and went to the hassle of measuring their empty boxes for me while I held on the phone. Turns out they had two boxes I could try. When I arrived they walked me out back and let me have my pick and didn't want anything in return. The box worked great and I got my cover mailed back to get my refund. If every company exhibited Rife's willingness to help another the world would be a better place! Like I said, super nice people. I'd highly recommend them for your car repair needs. read more

They partnered well with my insurance, communicated progress throughout the repair and even went the extra mile to shuttle me home when dropping the car off and fixing another minor item not on the original estimate. Rife's did an excellent job with my 2014 Ford Explorer after it was involved in an accident with a careless driver. They worked with my insurance company and kept me up to date with the status of repairs. The truck was close to a total but they managed to put it back together and it looks better than when I bought it. The quality of the repairs were first rate and they matched the paint perfectly. You can't tell the vehicle was ever in an accident. I want to thank Garrick and Conner for their professional work and attention to detail. 10/10 will recommend to others. read more

I learned about Rifes at a classic car show. They had a beautiful car on exhibit and I talked to the representative for some time. Not every body shop does complete paint jobs or classic restoration work but the rep assured me they had a special team dedicated to such work. Over the winter I acquired a convertible and recently I completed enough mechanical restoration that I felt ready to find a painter. I called Rifes and they had the classic car guy call me. We talked a bit and he asked me to send pictures of the car. So the next day I spent some time taking photos of the car and sent them off. The next day the rep emailed and said they were passing on the job. Pass on the job? Isn't this what you do for a living? No explanation. My issue with this is the no explanation and the waste of my time. I had told him previously the make of the car. I told him the paint scheme. I told him I was not worried about how long the wait was to do it. I told him it would not need bodywork. So what was the problem? If Rifes is afraid to paint my car you should be afraid to let them paint yours. Look at the pic. You will be puzzled too. read more

This update is in response to the Comment from Jon M. of Rife's Autobody. The shop had the insurance estimate on Nov 28th, according to the fax report. Why wait 2 weeks, less than a week before the vehicle was scheduled in for repair, to order parts? At the very least, the parts people should see the vehicles scheduled in and check the parts on hand for that repair a couple of days ahead. Granted there are always things missed, as in this case, the hood could not be lifted as the deer crushed the hood beside the latch... But these are not what caused the delays on this vehicle. I pick up the vehicle today, I only hope that I can update my review after doing so and give credit where I hope it's due! I want to believe all those who sing the praises of this shop. After waiting what seemed like forever to get my car back. I can say the work that was done appears to be good. The paint has no obvious blemishes, granted it's January and I can't really wash the car. I don's see any obvious mismatch in the paint colors. Impressive considering it's a black peal/metalic color. The panel gaps look even, and headlights are aimed properly. I've changed my rating to give the talented people doing the work on the cars the credit they deserve. read more

I ripped my Audi bumper askew on a piece of reebar in a parking lot the week after I moved to Columbus and called the Audi dealer to see if they had any recommendations. They directed me to Rife's, and I couldn't have been happier. Pam in the office was so helpful -- she was calm, pleasant, and professional, and arranged for a towing company when it turned out my car was not drivable after all (Clayton's towing was great too -- the guy was so helpful and informative, telling me where the hook was, how to put it in the front bumper, just in case I ever had to have it towed and wanted to be sure it was done correctly). She even took the time to make sure I was able to find the place (it's not hard, but I had mentioned I was new in town). Most importantly, when anybody at Rife's said they were going to send email forms, or call back, or contact my insurance company, they always did so. I always knew what was happening with my car and the insurance. Justin made special arrangements so I could get my car on late afternoon Friday instead of having to wait over the weekend. They will arrange for a rental car for you when you first drop your car, but I was also able to just leave my already rented Enterprise car there and they took care of the return. The repairs were great -- the bumper is back in place, I can't tell it was ever damaged. I also had them fix a small rust spot on the hood, and the paint job is superb. I paid for that part myself, and I thought it was a fair price for great work. My stress levels dropped by 90% the minute I started dealing with Rife's. I highly recommend them. One more thing I'm adding -- an earlier reviewer mentioned misogyny. I'm female, of a certain age, and was way more flustered and forgetful than I usually am, because of the "new city, new job, wrecked car, everything's new and unfamiliar" circumstances. I never once got a condescending or patronizing attitude from anyone I dealt with -- they were professional, amiable, and patient. And believe me, I would have detected it. read more

I had extensive work on my Audi done there two years ago. I had a front end collision and they did both body and mechanical work. Less then one year later the paint is chipping like crazy. I took it in to show them and their response was to offer me $100 dollars off the cost to repaint the front end!!!! Now I am having mechanical problems because they didn't fix the car properly. A/c.... Windshield washer... This is ridiculous! I would NEVER recommend anyone take their car there. read more

Several years ago, I had my Lexus repaired and the car painted at the Grandview Heights location for a total bill of over $10,000. I experienced several long delays and an almost total lack of communication from the staff. After almost two months, the car was completed and it was an impressive job. Even though I was dissatisfied with the customer service from that last experience and the long delay in completing the car, I decided to return to Rife's for repairs on my other car for damage resulting from a rear end collision. The insurance company estimated the repairs at $2,800. I took my Jaguar into the Grandview shop for a repair estimate on July 17th. I was told by their estimator that the car would be "torn down" to determine the extent of damage and then an estimate of repair would be prepared and discussed with the insurance company. He told me that the bumper would be removed to inspect the care and complete an estimate. I informed the estimator that the Jaguar was a hobby car and that I did not want extensive or unnecessary repairs that would be over the value of the car and would result in totaling of the car. I told him I wanted it to look good, but not be restored to showroom condition. I stopped in on Monday July 22nd to request have some additional work done on the car. I was requested to follow the estimator to his desk, where he should several pages of notes from the inspection of the car. He proceeded to inform me that the damages required removal of the floor pans to replace frame components and that the repairs were going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $11,000. Again, I informed him that this would total the car and I did not want that to happen. As I questioned the estimate he kept repeating "100%!" which became very annoying. I said that I would like to have the insurance company adjustor discuss it with him and left the building. I looked at my car before leaving and it was obvious that the bumper had not been removed. The rear seat was lifted up, which was the only "tear down" that was performed. The insurance adjuster talked to the estimator and the manager several times and was unable to come to an agreement on the repairs and the costs. I went to pick up my car on Monday July 29th and was informed by the estimator that before releasing the car I would have to pay $500.00 for the "tear down" and the estimate. I was shocked and asked why I hadn't been informed that there would be a charge for the estimate when I dropped off the car. I did not receive an answer. I then asked how the cost could be $500 to remove the rear seat, which is a five minute procedure and write an estimate. His answer was vague and incomplete, which was frustrated and angered me. He made a statement that his company was "in business to make money." At that point, I left the building. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against Rife's, but the owner defended the exorbitant cost for the estimate stating that parts were ordered and that there as an "administrative fee." In fact, no parts were ordered - per the secretary, I was informed that a used bumper and trunk lid was put on hold with a salvage company. In a message from the estimator, he actually stated "we got the price up to $11,000" as if it was his goal to get the highest possible cost for repairs. Over $8,000 more than the insurance company's estimate! Incredibly poor customer service and price gouging, most amazing, since I was a previous customer. Would not recommend Rife's Autobody to anyone! read more

From the moment the assessor started to look at my car, he was snarky. I was trying to point out the areas of damage, and he told me he couldn't write while I was talking so much. When I asked him to explain something, his response was, "I have 18 years of experience doing this". That might explain why he is qualified to answer my question, but it certainly didn't answer it. The interaction went downhill from there, and at one point, I actually feared for my safety, because the man became so agitated with my repeated attempts to get my question answered. I can't prove it, of course, but the way they regarded me felt misogynistic. I gave it one star for cleanliness. That's about all I could find that was good. read more

I had a great experience with Rife's. My Audi A4 was side-swiped in a parking lot and left with deep scratches along the side and hub cap. As a certified Audi repair shop, I felt good choosing Rife's. They were very professional and nice to work with throughout, and my car looks good as new. i stopped by Rife's to get an estimate on my car but was told I needed an appointment even though there was nobody in their lobby. The website did not indicate that an appointment was needed otherwise I would have made one. He went on to tell me that if it was an insurance claim, most insurance companies didn't accept their estimates anyway, as if it was probably better if I went someplace else, and indeed I will. We had the towing company take our car to Rife's after the accident. We've used them before since we have been really happy with their customer service and the high quality of work they perform. Mike was the guy we worked with. He's a great guy and really knows what he's doing. Before we knew it, we had a quote. The insurance company agreed and the car was repaired actually before the date they projected. When we got the car back, it was extremely detailed inside and out and looked like a brand new car.
