I'm a new patient of Dr Mauer refered to him by Flossy. From the phone call to set up the appointment to the end in getting a tooth extracted, I received nothing but top notch service. Dr Mauer is easy going, soft spoken, gentle and caring. His bedside manners are excellent and above many. Savanna and Jazmin too are amazing. It's called Smile Today for a reason, that's all we did was smile and laugh. I felt like we were old friends, I'm very happy to have found them. I have a lot of work to do on my teeth and even though many times I've dreaded going to the dentist those days are over. Can't wait for Dr Mauer and the girls to help me get my teeth in good shape. Avoid Riggs Family Dental I recently moved to the area and scheduled cleanings for myself and my kids. Before the appointment, I sent over x-rays as requested. They later insisted on taking their own x-rays, assuring me they would be complimentary. Unfortunately, I was billed because Riggs submitted their insurance claim before a previous claim and they refused to help resolve the issue. The experience didn't stop there. The dentist claimed I had eight cavities--more than I've ever had in my life--and said my child had one. I got a second opinion, and neither of us had any cavities. What Riggs identified as cavities were actually surface stains. Overall, this was a terrible experience: misleading billing practices, questionable diagnoses, and zero accountability. I've been going to this Group for several years. I got a crown from Dr Bailey that was not done correctly. Another dentist from the same office stated that if this was my work, I would fix it. I tried talking to the Business Office Manager and got nowhere. It wasn't until over a year ago, a new Business Office Manager who spoke with Dr. Lopez and they agreed to fix the crown. This was the beginning of my nightmare. I went to the Gilbert Office and was greeted by a New Dentist, Paul Sandstrom. He was great (so I thought) and when my crown was complete I went home. It was days later that something wasn't right, so I went back to see him. Again, he said he could fix it and so he did (so I thought). I called again to the office requested that I do not see Dr Sandstrom and that I wanted this to be fixed. I got to the office and Dr. Sandstrom is there. He takes a look at the same tooth and says, it looks like this is piece right here is the problem. If it's not better in a week, come back and we can do a root canal. Now keep this in mind, this was their error and now because of the negligence, I have to get a crown and pay for it? I think NOT! Be mindful when looking for a good dentist. Read the reviews. We have been patients at this location for over 6 years. The new office manager is a complete nightmare. She has no idea what customer service means and spoke in the most innappropriate way to our family. Truly sad that she has a job. I just moved here and was in a search for a dentist, this happened to just be the first place I called that accepted my insurance in network as well as my husbands. The phone interaction and the easiness of setting the appointment, as well as filling out paperwork was easy and hassle free. The staff is friendly. Two stars for the above experience. The office itself need a lot of upgrades. You can tell that not a lot of work was put into the interior. Walls are poorly painted, with a mint hospital color. There's not much decor or inviting office ambiance here, it reminded me of somewhere you would go if you don't have insurance or money to pay for dental service. The equipment is outdated, there was rust on one x-Ray machine and the second panoramic x-Ray machine wasn't working at all (I hope the insurance is billed properly due to this, as there were no panoramics taken ). The chairs are old and squeak when operated. There was dust on everything that I looked at, so not much cleaning goes into the detail of the office. I also noticed dirty cleaning tools that were sealed up, I was hoping they wouldn't use on me. There was an "assistant" that couldn't figure out how to use the x-Ray, the hygienist had to come in and do it for him after he poked me for 5 minutes and complained he couldn't figure it out. Then I saw this same guy taking out trash, then learning to input data in the computer, so I am unsure of his title here. The main Doctor is very young, he was nice. I don't have anything against him being young but maybe when he gets his own office/practice he can elevate the overall patient experience to a more modern expectation. Southwest Smiles & Smile Today are also one and the same practice. They have two different names on Yelp. That was odd, because I thought I called one place but ended at another. I figured out it was the same address and place when I actually got there. While I was waiting for my husband, the doctor left with the front desk employee to go to Starbucks, then came back 30 minutes later. That was odd too. Overall I was not impressed with this office. Perhaps it's because I have been spoiled with high end technology, beautiful office spaces, as well as dedicated exceptional care/service. Because all 3 are equally important to me, I will seek another facility for my dental needs. read more

After reviewing my previous comments management requested that I change my review. SO....Here is my change- HORRIBLE experience with my dental care. I had received a crown and it was not done correctly and never fit well. It required me going back to have it looked at and to my surprise the dental assistant and the office manager were no longer there. That caused issues with my billing as well because the new manager, Sarah, called and in a threatening way demanded money. I had always paid as per the agreement but in this case that agreement was no longer valid because new boss = new rules. The dentist that did my crown elected to move to another state and when I went in a third time there was a "temp" dentist and his advice was to wait until there was a perm dentist. He said there were clinical changes which needed to be made but required more time than he was able to spend as a temp dentist. Overall I would not go back due to constant changes internally which make it difficult as a patient to find it a comfortable place to entrust in an already unsettling experience...the dentist chair! I guess they are owned by a larger group so they have other offices throughout the valley...I will certainly make sure not to visit their other offices as well. read more

I'll go back to a 5 star review, and I'll tell you why. I really LOVED the old staff and dentist - Megan, Dr. Burnett, Jamie, Jennifer, Dawn. However, none of them are there. Smile Today isn't owned by one doctor, and really is more like by a corporation or a business entity. The new dentist is Dr. Smith, who has been there since late August 2017. Sarah, the office manager, came just under a year ago after Megan went to go raise her new baby. Ian came in after Jamie left, which I'm not sure when, but after my dental visit in December. Now sure when Dawn left and I know Jennifer went to work in the Scottsdale office. When the staff you loved so well is gone, getting to know all new personnel has been challenging for me. I was not too happy and I expressed it in my Yelp review at the beginning of the year. Since then, Dr. Smith has tried to help me get to like this place better with this new staff. He explained to me all the different reasons why he recommended what he did. My husband got his cleaning earlier this year after I wrote my scathing review and said he really liked the cleaning Ian gave him and for me to give Smile Today another chance. I was ready to switch dentists, but decided I could give them another chance. I had a cleaning in March, but I also had a problem with a crown that another dentist had put on a long time ago. Through this whole process of the cleaning, getting the new crown, it all went so well. I have never had such a gentle cleaning before and Ian is the first male dental hygienist that has ever cleaned my teeth. All prior ones had been female and they've never been that gentle before. It was actually rather pleasant. The crown process went well - temporary and permanent. Once the permanent was in, it felt like just regular teeth. I also had some issues with documentation with my Flex Spending Account with which I was able to work with Sarah on. Though I haven't gotten the refund for over payment yet, I'm assuming it's in the works and I should receive the check some time. All in all, I'm happy. I just have to get used to this new staff. Oh, and Kelly is super nice, super smiley, and very happy every time I've talked or interacted with her. She is pretty easy going and fun. This place is shady. Different dentist every time (it's a tiny office, there is only 1 dentist at a time at this place, it's not some huge group practice or something)and after being told I have perfect teeth for 44 years, new dentist #3 (I have been going here for less than 2 years) wants to drill holes in my teeth for multiple cavities, wants to put in sealants....He didn't bother to show me the X rays, I get NO explanation of why nobody said anything when I was there 6 months ago that things didn't look good (in fact, they said my teeth were PERFECT), then the hygienist starts to paint my teeth wig fluoride without even asking (which I NEVER have had done-I don't believe is helps) and THEN they have the balls to CHARGE me for it. I'm taking my teeth to someone who has a professional practice where they actually care about their patients, not this group of quacks. I will have the X-rays reviewed by someone else, and if they say I don't need any of that stuff done, you can BET the Board of Dentistry will be getting a call from me! read more

So I started with Smile Today a year and a half ago with Dr Burnett. He created a great treatment plan for me, but like many, I am sure I procrastinated. Fast forward 8 months and I was ready to go for it as I developed a problem with a tooth under a bridge. When I went back in Dr Burnett was gone and Dr. Smith was there. ( Didn't realize to this point this is a chain) Dr Smith proposed his plan and once again procrastination took over until I noticed that the molar I was concerned about had blood pockets forming around the tooth. So it was time for action, I called and scheduled an extraction on a Thursday afternoon. It was a difficult extraction as I wanted to save the rest of the bridge, the tooth had an infection and the top of the tooth was discentegrated so Dr Smith had to dig for the roots. Dr Smith knows his stuff, He did a great job, and to my surprise he called me the next morning to find out how I was doing. Over the weekend I was worried about what I felt might be excessive bleeding and when I call the after hours nnumber he called me back twice! This place focuses on quantity vs. quality. Let's start off by saying my boys went to this office one week, and the following week, it was owned by a different dentist. I had an appt at 3:20. I showed up at 3:10. Receptionist requested payment upfront. I sat in the reception area until 3:45. When I was brought back, all the other chairs were full. The assistant asked me what they were doing. Hello? Did you look at my file? Then tells me they will do as much as they can. The dentist comes back and asks the same questions. He tells me they will do as much as they can, but the assistant has to leave by 5:00 and the other girls would like to leave by closing time too. At this point, I'm annoyed. Why was I scheduled to do so much work at this time and no one bother to schedule other patients accordingly? The dentist gave me a couple shots and went on to the next patient. Came back 15 mins later, noticed I was numb as much as I should have been and gave me more shots. 10 minutes later, he starts to drill. At a certain point, I let him know I still felt what was going on. He says, I must have missed the pocket. He gave me 4 more shots. Now my mouth is numb and he does half the work I came in for. I can tell they were rushing. No one told me any side effects, I didn't receive any paperwork for after care, nothing. I walked out to make another appointment for the following week to finish the dental work. A friend or a coworker must've have came in as I was booking my appointment because they were so excited to see her and talk to before they finished booking my appointment. I walked out and then walked back in and asked when I should be able to eat or drink. They just told me give it an hour or so and went back to their conversation. When I got to the car, the left side of my face was swollen x's 3. The numbness and swelling didn't go away the next day. I called all morning only to get the voice box, I left 2 messages. I even took time off work, but when I arrived the door was locked despite the hours listed on the window. I left another message. At 1:30, someone called me back to tell me they were at lunch. Apparently, the dentist wasn't at this office, nor could they fit me in at the other office. At this point, I lost my patience. I canceled my kids appointments and requested a refund. They told me I would get my refund within a week. My mouth remained swollen for another week. I even went to another dentist for an emergency visit. What upsets me the most is that the new dentist has to fix what the dentist did. It took a month to get my refund, after I called them to inquire where my check was. They told me they billed something incorrectly and were waiting to get paid. Again, this place solely focuses on quantity and definitely lacks quality. read more

Last week, while out-of-town, I decided to get my teeth cleaned at Smile Today in Gilbert, AZ. Making an appointment over the phone was simple. When I arrived at their offices, Sarah greeted me. Next, Ian Kavanaugh, the hygienist, introduced himself and took me to an exam area. Ian explained every step of the procedure in detail, he asked me about my dental history form, showing me that he had read it before I sat down, then he took x-rays and photos of my teeth. The cleaning process went smoothly, and I was very pleased with the professional service and the kindness extended to me. Then, Dr. Chapin Smith came in to review all work that was done, and to explain to me, using the new photographs, that I needed to have two crowns done and one wisdom tooth removed. The level of professionalism was the best it could be, and then, the Front Desk person explained the cost of the dental work needed. Both Ian, the hygienist, and Dr. Smith were a great team. Had extensive work done last year... seems to have done an ok job. My 1 star rating is due to the Office Manager. My insurance covers ER Dental and yet I was specifically told by her that my claim was denied. I was charged the full amount. Later, I called my insurance and was told no claim was ever filed! The office manager then changed her story and said she didn't have the paperwork to file the claim and refused to file. Do NOT go to this dental office... you may get scammed! Read other posts and will see similar stories of people getting scammed and high employee turn-over rates. No one seems to stay there more than a year. read more

I went to the Chandler office - Smile Today Chandler, 975 E. Riggs Road, #8, Chandler AZ. I wanted to go to the office in Scottsdale set up my appointment in Chandler in error. My fault so I drove the 50 minutes to the office because my husband bought me a teeth whitening package as a gift. The staff was very nice and took photos and x-rays of my teeth. The dentist then came out, looked at the photos and said I needed 3 fillings before I could have the teeth whitening trays. I go to my regular dentist 3 times a year for cleanings and whatever needs to be done. I am 100% confident that my regular dentist would have told me I needed fillings if needed. I told them I wanted to go to my regular dentist for my fillings, I went to my dentist a week later and he said no. I think they are just trying to scam money out of people. The staff is nice but the dentist I saw had a terrible bedside manner and obviously just wanted to make a buck. read more
