Her knowledge, patience and graciousness were very evident. She was warm and inviting and the three of us had a wonderful time. This was the perfect thing to do together. I had such a great first impression at Clayscapes. I came in as a new small business owner and…read moreteacher, initially coming specifically for some tool kits and a specific clay body. The process was very seamless and fast and felt very much taken care of. Andrew, who helped me, was very knowledgeable with bodies and had I had more time I would have liked to have seen more of the site. I walked out with a sufficient amount of tools to get my program off the ground and the clay I really wanted. As Andrew assisted in loading my car, we saw a very injured bird (in this very packed parking lot). It was so disturbing how broken the wing was that I got on the phone several minutes later to find a rescue volunteer or find a way to take it home with me. I was told that there had just been a call placed in Syracuse with the same description and that it might be the same bird. On revisiting the parking lot, hoping to find the "girl from WA" who I was told caught it, we happened to see Andrew again and asked if he might know if it was scooped up. He smiled and said that they were the ones that caught it and it was off to be cared for. These are the kinds of people you want to do business with. My heart just swelled and I could drive back home feeling we did everything we could and what caring people run this place. I will be back again! I'm actually very surprised I am the first to leave a review as Clayscapes has been verbally recommended many times over since it has been about 20 years since I've bought clay in Upstate NY. I hope more follow suit!

He let us select our images beforehand and had them roughly pencil sketched on the canvases and ready to go when we arrived. This was no simple "paint by numbers" type class. He taught us how to mix our colors and the brush techniques we needed to get the best results for the pictures we had chosen. He even coached us on some alternative/more advanced techniques to create interesting effects to match our source images, such as adding texture/physical depth, and drips/spatters. At no point did we feel rushed and he let us stay until we finished. A really fantastic experience and we hope to do it again! Eye Studio aka Eye Studio Arts, LLC, offers art & cooking classes for developmentally disabled…read morepeople (among others) which is a great service to provide as cooking is a necessary life-skill- however the deplorable food storage conditions I witnessed firsthand along with the absence of any visible sanitary standards is abominable. The owner's dog is allowed to roam free in the kitchen near food which is a contaminant, and combined with the lack of formal sanitary procedures can easily lead to a food-borne illness outbreak which can range in seriousness from mild to fatal. Students prepare meals and take them home in containers to feed themselves and their families, yet they told me they don't need to worry about Dept of Health requirements because they do not 'sell food.' I would not allow my child or myself to risk my health by eating any food prepared in their kitchen. There is a ServSafe certification posted on the wall, but I witnessed none of the requirements being adhered to and yes- I am qualified to access. It's just a piece of worthless paper if you don't follow the protocol! Any entity that provides funding, donations, or the like to Eye Arts Studio, LLC - and any parent that unknowingly sends their child to a cooking class at this mosh pit of bacteria should take note and investigate accordingly. They are either unprepared or unwilling to undertake the necessary sanitary standards required to provide food in any way to the public. As a side note- the owner exhibited a flash temper several times in my presence complete with yelling and the use of profanity towards staff which is appalling, demoralizing, and completely unacceptable in the workplace. I hoped this behavior was a one-time occurrence, but sadly, it was not.
