Then, all the way in the rear of the nursery, a woman enforcer of public entry treated me like a criminal stealing nuclear secrets and did all but put me in cuffs, escorting me bodily to the "public area." I may have passed a sign that said as much but I didn't see one. I passed at least 6 other people on my way in who didn't seem to notice me going into a restricted area of the base. They have nice plants, but challenging service.

But I noticed I was being followed, at least the guy should be discreet. Don't let me notice, he was watching and following me. But if you're white, and love plants they have an amazing variety. I remember 29 years ago having just moved into a single family home in Marina Bay, we purchased 3 palm trees from here. The idea was to plant them in the ground in out back yard as well as one out front. That was until I found out my company wanted to transfer me to Portland OR. I went back and asked how the palms would transition to the Oregon climate. I was told the two may be ok if we covered them in the winter with clear plastic while the odd ball one will handle it no problem. ( sorry odd ball is my non technical term for the one we planned to place out front. A dwarf that wouldn't get too big). We still kept them in the original wood and metal crates, and shipped them with our belongings to Beaverton. Well after 4 years in Oregon, wound up loosing one of the fan palms. But the dwarf and the other fan palm made it to sunny Southern California where we lived for 20 years. The fan palm box finally collapsed through the two moves and we planted it in the breezeway Behind the house. The dwarf fan got permanently placed in a planter box in the front of the Laguna house. So I'm happy to report (unless google hasn't updated it) That dwarf palm thrives on actually growing rather outta control still 29 years to this day. At the end of the day to me, to me part the California dream is to have palm trees on your property. Nice to know these proved to be healthy happy reminders as their roots are firmly back in California soil .

Gone were the seasonal parties and sales, gone was the fun and whimsey of the place. And the people who worked there, the real stars were mistreated by the monster and some left. Now the monster is gone, but this place hasn't come back to what it was. It seems that they don't have the same energy and vibe. But the plants aren't as vast as they were in the past. I will try them again. I was touched by the stories of people who took plants home to care for them when the monster closed the business. I'm glad that Annie is working with a group of employees to get the business back up and running. It's just that now, they are a promising shell of a once great business. I'm pulling for a better experience on my next visit. I'm confident that will happen.

While I was there, I was admiring all of the exotic plants, flowers, herbs, and trees and all the gardening accessories you may ever need. I loved seeing all their seasonal Halloween theme planters and little decorations that you can put throughout your garden to make your garden festive for Halloween. They even had small Christmas trees in stock. This is a lovely nursery with lots of beautiful plants and accessories and great employees that are roaming around ready to help you at any time.
