I had the tilapia and crab cake special, which was just as wonderful. Both dishes were finished with the same champagne cream sauce, and it complemented each one perfectly rich, flavorful, and well balanced. First of all, the service was impeccable. I was seated immediately, and offered a choice of seats! Second, the atmosphere of this restaurant is so comfortable, but yet it gives the customer the elegant vibes if a big city restaurant. As far as the food, I had the Rigo's Special, and would recommend it again, and again! Even some of the most elite seafood establishments are unable to stand up against the crab cakes. The dish is smothered in uncooked pre-minced garlic, five shrimp, served with overcooked angel hair pasta in a pool of water and garlic wetness with some assorted veggies. Easy to miss as you drive by but an excellent dinner!!! Traveling thru Kankakee and this was a delightful surprise. I had filet of sole stuffed with crab and a champagne sauce with dried cranberries. My husband and I were traveling from St Louis up through Kankakee on our way up to Michigan to visit our son. We always check Yelp to find new restaurants in any area we are traveling to. Rigos was 4.4 on a scale of one to five. So we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! Food was delicious, and a great value for the price. I had the pecan encrusted Seabass, and it came with a nice dinner salad and twice baked potato. Delicious! Hot rolls came right out of the oven. Our server, Brianna, was terrific! Super friendly & helpful. Told us about everything we needed to know about specials, & checked back with us every step of the way. The kind of service you only hope for these days! I moved out here from Chicago about a year ago. Being from Chicago food has been something I've missed. I was looking for some place that had good Italian food so I googled and came across Rigo's Place. This place is a Hidden Gem. When I first walked in, I loved the Ambiance and the piano playing in the background. I loved the dim lights with the candles lit on each table. I ordered the Classic Cosmopolitan and it was perfect. It had the perfect balance of flavors and alcohol. For appetizers the Calamari Fritti was delicious and it was fried perfectly. For the main entree I had the Smoked Italian Sausage Pasta and I loved the homemade tomato Basil sauce. It was really good. For dessert I had the Banana Cheesecake and it just melted in my mouth. It was so delicious. The service was great and the waiters were very nice. 10/10 recommend and I will be going back to try other things on the menu. read more

First time to be in Kankakee and we found Rigo's! The menu had so many great sounding choices we had to come back a second night to try something else! I've been coming to Rigo's for years and it never ceases to amaze me! We were were there last night and had Rigos Special and it was great! My wife had the Salmon. I recently had the lamb shank and the c sea cv bass and all were very good. The prices are about the same as some of the chains but the staff is excellent and knows you by name! This has always been one of my husband and I's favorite date night places. The last 2 or 3 times we have been the food was horrible, the cheese in my dish was sour and even though my husband only ate a few bites of his sausage and spaghetti dish, he didn't even want to take the rest home because it tasted horrible. First time here. Stopped by on my way to Chicago. Had the sea bass in champagne sauce for lunch. Fish was very moist and cooked perfectly. Sauce tasted like a reduction of cream, chicken stock and subtle lemon. Very nice. Steamed veggies could have benefited from a touch of added flavor such as cracked green peppercorn and sea salt. We had 4 different entrees and all were excellent! The lamb shank was moist and cooked perfectly. The Rigo's special pasta was very tasty. We also tried the chicken and shrimp. The blackening spices were flavorful and memorable. I had the Poulet Bleu and the sauce was excellent with a slight blue cheese flavor. The chicken was moist and had good flavor. Overall, this is a higher quality restaurant than out typical KKK restaurant and I am glad we have such great food and service without having to drive to Chicago. read more

You always hope when you read reviews on Yelp that the tone's consistent--and for that matter positive--about trying a new place. Fortunately, in the case of Rigo's, it's all true. The menu isn't anything revolutionary per se, but what does set it apart from other restaurants in the area are two things: presentation and a sense of class. Don't let the exterior fool you: the location for Rigo's has apparently had four different tenants in the same amount of years, and the black wrought-iron six-foot gates surrounding the parking lot and the sun-bleached awning over the entrance don't really lend a sense of invitation--but what passerby and those that judge a book by its cover are missing out on what's inside: an airy, open and quiet long dining hall with decent wood paneling, tasteful decor with a comfortable oval-shaped bar by the entrance and a soft overture of slow jazz wafting from the speakers throughout. This is a place for adult dining, not a Chuck E. Cheese--kids will not fare well with the menu (as there's no menu for them at all) or the atmosphere, which is great for those not wishing screaming, kicking and crying as part of the ambiance when dining out. The food. Oh my stars and garters, the food. Professional, delectable, properly portioned. Take for example the blackened chicken and shrimp dinner: a nicely pounded chicken breast with a tangy southern spice char covered in a mildly spicy sauce (a zing of Worcestershire I suspect amongst it), flanked by three large butterflied shrimp and a grouping of perfectly steamed vegetables (celery, green bean, broccoli, carrot and cauliflower) all on a bed of fresh spinach with a creamy twice-baked potato. You'd think three shrimp is short-changing the dish, but in fact it's just the right amount to compliment the poultry (and if need be, each can be cut in half to stretch the seafood out that much more); the same can be said for the veggies and potato. The crab cakes are perfectly tasteful, the poulet blue has flavor that pops, and the veal picatta has a lemon butter sauce that never overwhelms the main dish. The main thing here though that's most appealing is the feel that you're eating finely-prepared dishes and not paying through the nose for them. The average entree goes for about $16-17, and most come with a choice of soup or salad (if the chicken and rice soup is available when you visit, it's highly recommended, though the salads are also better than average--leaf lettuce rather than iceberg). Chef Rigo himself might serve you himself on the quieter nights and be more than happy to do it. Since moving in to the new location, he appears to have made the most of the new locale. The tables are nicely spaced, the layout flows well, and even if you're not interested in dinner, it would still be a class place to go for a glass of wine or brandy after a movie at the Paramount Theater across the street to discuss the film--again, the place has a welcome air of refined quiet enjoyment, not some beer bar with honky-tonk turned up too loud and video poker in the corner that dot Kankakee County like a plague. If I had to find a negative, it would be pretty minor--the water glasses could use a better detergent to wash (they can be a bit spotty)--but if that's the worst, then everything else is nothing but up on the scale. It's a welcome respite for the area, and this patron can only hope the business succeeds: its fine food preparation and sense of style can only hope to inspire more fine dining of other genres in the area, elevating it over the gluttony of fast food and burger joints. Rigo's is an oasis of culinary delight, and one can only hope to return to its doors that much sooner to try something new. read more
