    Uneven frames
    Rebecca K.

Sad that this place turned out to be such a disappointing experience, on all of my visits. The first visit they were closed during business hours with a paper sign on the door that they weren't open. The second visit they were open and the store was busy, but no one would greet or seem to be helping any of the prospective customers. We all milled around trying on frames not knowing who of us even worked there. I'd never had glasses before, and though the frame selection was robust, the person who helped me place my order in the end up sold me on glass lenses when plastic would have been fine. I don't feel they were being honest with my best interests or understanding of the process in mind. No one in the store was really even able to explain why my insurance was paying the portion it did versus what I was responsible for. I was told I'd get a call when the glasses were ready to pick up. I never got a call. 15 days passed so I called them and they said oh yeah they've been ready for a while ... I mentioned I hadn't received any notice and they didn't even acknowledge it. At pickup, I was handed a fairly scratched up designer case. The glasses were too loose so someone adjusted them for me, or tried to. It seemed like he was struggling to adjust the fit. I took them home uneven and still loose and need to find someone/someplace else to adjust them now. Only adding a star bc the frame selection was extensive.

While I did not find any glasses that appealed to me on this visit, the staff was extremely friendly and kind. I will surely pop over when in the area to see what new styles they have and refer others to the store.

Of course, everyone had the same thought and I was frantically trying to find a place that had an opening and one that would fit my schedule. I cross reference on VSP and Yelp for good reviews! I filled out their questionnaire to set up an appointment on their website. They called me to schedule an appointment and lucky for me, they had a cancellations the day they called me and it worked for me. Tip: ask to be put on a wait list for cancellations if you are flexible with appointments time and need one before a certain date. EXPERIENCE: 5 stars! I had Marissa Huang and she was sooo nice! I felt like they were considerate of all the covid precautions. I didn't have long waits nor did I feel rushed. I had my routine eye exam with dilation. Picked out a pair of glasses with blue light and anti-refractive coating. It was an easy process. Only thing is I wish they has the circular gold/silver frames. They also don't carry ray-bans. I ordered my glasses and picked it up in 2 weeks. They have their own parking lot. I would recommend this place!

After returning home, I left a message for the shop inquiring about ordering a pair - Amanda immediately called me back and made the order happen with such ease. I'd taken a photo of myself wearing the frames I wanted and told her my prescription strength - she was able to do all the calculations for my lenses based on the photo I sent and we handled the invoice electronically. Throughout the whole process, she was super receptive, warm, knowledgeable, and helpful, ensuring me that if the lenses weren't perfect, we could always redo them. I went in to pick them up and wow, they are totally perfect! I've never had lenses that seemed so precise and well crafted. What's more, Amanda and her coworker were so friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We love visiting Petaluma regardless, but it's fun to have another excuse to head north from Larkspur. I'm a convert and now wouldn't even think of getting eyeglasses anywhere else. PS why are retail folks (and locals) so much friendlier in Petaluma than in Larkspur? Can we move up north like now, please?

Shoutouts FYidoctors in San Rafael Whatever anyone thinks,…read morethis place will forever be my haven. I wasn't supposed to be here. I wasn't their patient. I didn't have an appointment. I hadn't purchased my glasses here. Until that day, I had never walked through their doors, let alone knew who they were. I was just someone driving to a wedding in an unfamiliar area when, without warning, the lens fell completely out of my prescription glasses. I've worn glasses virtually my entire life and never experienced anything like it. One second I'm dressed up, driving to a wedding and going about my day. The next I'm frantically looking for the nearest exit and closest shop that can urgently repair my glasses. You can 'see' how difficult and stressful this situation was, with a sprinkle of already being late to the ceremony.... It sounds almost funny afterward. In the moment, it wasn't. I put 20 minutes onto a parking meter and dashed off blindly for this store. Mind you, it was minutes before closing. I walked in, explained what had happened and prepared myself for all the perfectly reasonable questions: Are you a patient here? Did you buy these from us? Insurance? ID? Do you have an appointment? Instead, they just helped me. They took my glasses, put the lens back in and secured everything. Without me even asking, they inspected everything, checked the opposite side and tightened that screw too so I hopefully wouldn't find myself in the same predicament again. I offered to pay them. They wouldn't take a dime. I was in awe. I hadn't even expected them to take me, let alone be this attentive and caring. I wasn't looking for a freebie. At that moment, I didn't care what it cost. I was dressed for a wedding, away from home, and my glasses had catastrophically failed while I was driving. By the time I walked back around the corner to my car, I still had 9 minutes on the meter. But maybe the reason such a small interaction affected me so much is because of the contrast. This wasn't the first time these glasses had fallen apart. The 1st time this happened, I went back to the practice that actually sold them to me. I was their established patient, wearing glasses purchased from their office, and they still wouldn't let me do a walk-in. I had to go through the normal scheduling process to find an appointment time for a repair. Ridiculous. I remember joking with the opticians there, "Oh thank goodness it happened while I was safely at home. Imagine if my glasses suddenly fell apart while I was somewhere unfamiliar and actually needed them." Then they did. While I was driving, no less. I was nobody to these people. My own provider had every reason to consider these glasses, and me, their responsibility. This office had none. I cannot overstate how much that contrast floored me. A practice I had never given a dollar to treated my eyewear problem with a level of urgency, kindness and basic humanity that I hadn't experienced from the practice where I actually bought the glasses. That's why I'm writing so much about what was probably an incredibly ordinary few minutes in their workday. To them, maybe it was just tightening a screw and putting a lens back. To me, it was somebody coming through for me during a genuinely lousy moment when they had absolutely no obligation to. The ratings here are remarkably high. I've also seen the recent criticism from longtime patients who feel things have changed since the business changed hands. I'm not here to tell those people they're wrong. Their experiences are theirs. I'm here to add mine. And mine is admittedly unusual. I haven't had an eye exam here. I haven't ordered glasses here. I can't promise anybody what their experience with those services will be. But I can tell you something most reviews probably can't: I know how these people treated someone when they weren't their customer. If you're reading reviews trying to decide whether to give this practice a chance, that's the perspective I can offer you. Based on my experience alone, I'd feel comfortable giving them the opportunity to earn my business when I actually needed an optometrist. Maybe that's an unusually strong opinion to form from such a short interaction. But sometimes eleven minutes tells you a lot about a business. At least compared to the practice that sold me these glasses... I certainly found my haven.
