WOW! Sausalito optometry and Dr. Assar are AMAZING! I've been working from home a lot more and could not get in to SF to see my regular optometrist for my annual eye exam and scheduled an appointment at Sausalito Optometry based on a recommended from an RN friend of mine. They have state of the art equipment, including an imagery machine to check for glaucoma. Dr. Assar was extremely professional and knowledgeable and did an amazing job explaining everything to me. The shop has a large selection of frames from a variety of brands from low to high-end. Sausalito Optometry is certainly a 5 star optometry office and as someone who has been blind as a bat since I was 8 years old I should know. Dr. McCoy is a personable and intelligent doctor who offers incredibly professional service. After seeing me for two years Dr. McCoy encouraged and gave me the courage to pursue LASIK surgery which has changed my life. She saw me through the whole process and even helped me find my surgeon. She also keeps up to date with all the new testing equipment and today at my appointment I was able to see on a computer screen what the inside of both my eyes look like! 8/15/19 Update My eyes had been red for a couple of weeks so I called and Hillary suggested that I come in right away. I met with Dr. Assar and am now contemplating leaving the practice because of how he treated me. I will be seeing Dr. McCoy this week and will update after that. I was a huge fan of this practice even after I moved back to SF so we'll see if this can be worked out. Old Review If you use the app NextDoor, you know I live for the drama between my fellow neighbors. Especially when a puppy somehow escapes its home - it gets real serious in the Tibs when that happens. My other fave part is the local recommendations. One recent thread asked for optometry recommendations and virtually everyone recommended Dr. McCoy. I called to set up my appointment and the service was super friendly over the phone. That can be hard to convey, especially when the phone is ringing off the hook. I was able to get an appointment within a week and they accepted my insurance (VSP). Today I set off in the rain and found street parking easily. There's also parking right in front of their location as well, lots of great dining spots on Caledonia St. to check out before or after your appt. too. It's a super welcoming setup with lots of eyewear to test drive. They carry frames from LaFont to Banana Republic, as well as sunglasses. There was also a nice selection of frames on sale. The staff is really great about knowing the better deals within your insurance and I found that very helpful. Dr. McCoy was fantastic and very friendly. Her setup is definitely forward thinking and she invests in technology that makes her patient comfortable. The machine that takes pictures of your eyes (old way: dilation) was very easy to adapt too and I loved that she reviewed the pictures with me and went in depth about the health of my eyes. I am nearsighted with some astigmatism and she was really thorough about making sure my prescription was correct, in fact she got me to 20/20 with my contacts and really put thought into the shape of my eyes and which brand was the best fit. She also recommended some preservative free solutions and I was happy to hear that as I'm allergic to some solutions precisely bc of preservatives. I had a crazy emergency today on my way to work. Looking at my eye in the mirror, at the time, I did not know a blood vessel had erupted. So I called up the only place I go to see the eye doctor. I unfortunately experienced unprofessional and rude behavior. I left feeing they don't want customers. On top of this I received a misdiagnosis after spending over $1,500. on new glasses and contacts per their prescriptions. The first doctor could not even conduct the exam--she couldn't work with the PPE. I then saw a second doctor and felt in better hands, but the new Rx and the outcome of the extra tests (and extra charges) didn't make sense but I foolishly followed their advisement. The people at the optical shop are rude and dismissive. It's the first and only time I've been snapped at in a doctor's office for not realizing I was standing in the wrong spot while entering their office. The optometrist's lack of attention and courtesy was unbelievable.They offered no help selecting glasses and wouldn't fit them when they arrived. The order was placed incorrectly three times. I had to keep calling to correct it. How they received so many good past reviews is unknown to me. I have seen another doctor and have a completely different diagnosis. Because of their incompetency and my error in trusting them as a professional optometry facility, I am now out a large sum of funds that I am spending again this month. These people are top notch. Especially Sandra! I went with a friend who lost her glasses and when she found them they were broken. I offered to buy her new frames as a gift for her birthday. Sandra able to find the same designer frames (we went to her optometrist office and the receptionist there said the frames were not made anymore) in three different colors. We picked out these really great blue ones with orange on the inside. My friend needed them quickly and Sandra ordered and they were available just a couple days later. The old lenses were put in so we did not need to buy new lenses. Excellent service! So grateful to have found this place. read more

Easy to work with and spend time explaining the process and procedures. I have a hard time picking out glasses and they never rush me and are really helpful. I had to bring my 8-year old with me today due to school closure and everyone went out of their way to welcome her. OK, so I am getting "up there" and ........... well............... needed trifocals. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Found a great pair of Fendi frames HALF OFF. With my insurance, and sale, it didn't hurt my pocket book as much as I thought it would. Hubby got his glasses too. Some nerdy IT type that look hot on him! Very dissatisfied in this optometry office. I'm new to the area and I was looking for a place to get my eyes checked. The staff was unfriendly to me and the Female Dr. has a rude and entitled attitude. She kept cutting me off and made me feel like an idiot when I asked her basic beginner questions about my vision test and health concerns due to my limited sight. It seems to me customers are not treated right imo. I ordered contacts through them and when I had my husband (who's also a customer there) pick them up for me, they were extremely rude and ignorant. I immediately returned the contacts and ordered through the reliable online service 1-800 contacts. You would think small Doctors office and businesses like this would be extra nice to their community in times like this but they obviously don't need the $$ nor do they really care about the customer. I ordered a pair of custom made glasses for my elderly father. They cost over $1,000. We never received a call saying they were ready so after three weeks we contacted the office. They had been sitting there. They said they had called but we did not receive a call or message. When I picked them up, he tried them on and was seeing double. They had failed to put in the prism we paid for. I requested a refund as I didn't want to wait another three weeks for them to be fixed. The office manager was completely rude and unapologetic saying it's not their policy to provide refunds on "custom made glasses". I said if they had been made correctly I wouldn't need a refund and asked if she would talk to the owner and left my phone number. She texted me stating they would refund my card for the "custom made glasses" and not to do business with them again. I responded letting her know I'm not interested in doing business with an Optometrist that has a rude and incompetent staff. She continued texting me calling me unfriendly and to remove her from my contacts. GLADLY! I notice other yelp reviews with the same complaint of the rude staff. Dr. McCoy and Staff are the utmost 5 star Optometry Office. Don't go to a shopping center for your glasses, to save $$, as they probably do not have the education or ability to Identify potential eye issues or diseases of Your Eyes. Just like if you lose any hearing from standing in front of a loud band you can't reverse the damage, sams is true with your Eyes, you can't reverse the damage!! Dr. McCoys thorough examination in December of 2017, at age 68, detected an abnormal very high pressure in both of my eyes and seng me dIrectly to an Ophthalmologist. I credit Dr. McCoy in preventing me from any Eye Sight loss not to mention I could have gone blind. I was never aware of the dangers involved with pressures in one's eyes!! It wasn't until I went to see Dr. Iwach at Glaucoma Center of San Francisco that I have felt totally confident in my Ophthalmologist, his medical and of course his Office Staff. All 3 are important. I have not seen any other Center with this high degree of Professionalism, and that works well together! read more

Dr. McCoy and her staff are very sweet, they're all really a pleasure to interact with. I got my first ever pair of glasses from this office, and I think if I had been a little more knowledgeable it might have turned out better. Dr. McCoy said I didn't absolutely need glasses but explained all the reasons why they were a good idea, which made complete sense to me so I went along with it. I have insurance, but I was still STUNNED by the price of glasses (over $400- ouch!), but again went along with it because I knew no better. Cut to a week later and I pick up the glasses and...there's hardly a difference at all when I wear them. I called to see if I could return them because they are really all but useless and of course I can't. Recently damaged my 10+ yr old classic Ray Ban frames & one lens(progressive lenses), and needed replacement/repair. I came here for my first visit today. I went to the same Doctor in SF for years but making the trek into the Mission District from Marin was definitely not an option. So I looked on Yelp and found Sausalito Optometry and I am glad I did. The office and front office staff were really nice and helped me get set up really easily. Dr. McCoy was great. She made sure to explain all the procedures and helped me to optimize my vision. She also was conscientious of my insurance and maximized my benefits with minimal out of pocked cost. Okay, so I decide I have pulled my cheap drugstore cheaters out of my pocket for the last time. Now I will get a pair of real eyeglasses, but first I need my eyes checked. So I go to Dr. McCoy's office after calling for an appointment. Wow. Spacious professional office with a relaxing feeling and kind of a 'zen' vibe. Very clean and organized. Nice. I was offered a cappuccino, and accepted. Again, nice. I came prepared having completed the brief forms which are on their website and presented them. (If I have learned nothing from being a boy scout many moons ago I have learned to 'be prepared.') Sandra, the office receptionist was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I was instructed to look into a gadget and told to look at the red barn. So far 'cool and entertaining', I think to myself. Yes, I am a cheap date. Then Dr. McCoy leads me into a smaller office where she does the usual tests although they were new to me. No glaucoma. No cataracts. Nice big pupils. Healthy eyes. Only a slight, very very slight astigmatism in my left eye. Looks like I will only need my eyeglasses for reading and seeing my piano music clearer. With each test, Dr. McCoy clearly explained what was going on and prepared me by telling me beforehand what sensations I would experience. I learned things about how your lens changes as you age. Pretty cool. Again, I am easily entertained. We discussed my seasonal itchy eyes. I was given samples of eye drops and told if the samples worked out, I should call her and she'd write a prescription for them. Convenient! Soon, I was out of cappuccino and the tests were over. Now it was time to choose eyeglasses. There is quite a selection and this is where my wife and Sandra were most helpful. I decided on a pair and paid for them. It was great to be fussed over. All in all a wonderful experience. Very professional and unrushed. Pleasant and it's true, you DO want to go back. In fact, my wife, who has worn glasses for many years made an appointment because the experience was so pleasant. For an eye exam virgin like me, my first time was thoughtful and gentle. Having now had my first appointment with Dr. McCoy, I'm never going back to the mall for my glasses/contacts. It feels similar to when I stopped going to SuperCuts and decided to get a decent haircut - everything was so much more professional, easy, and of a much higher quality. Having recently moved to Marin, I decided that I needed to find a new optometrist and Dr. Danielle McCoy came highly recommended. I was very impressed with Dr. McCoy. She has excellent interpersonal skills (not what I experienced with my other optometrist). Besides being very friendly, she thoroughly questioned me about the history of my eye "issues", and was careful to document it all as I spoke. I have a difficult prescription so I was particularly impressed with the state-of-the art and modern exam equipment that she has in her office, which makes me feel confident that I'm getting the most thorough eye exam possible. Dr. McCoy and her entire staff were genuinely friendly and very professional. And as a bonus, they have a great selection of unique and out of the ordinary frames. The absolute BEST EYE DOCTOR I've ever seen and trust me, I've seen a lot having worn glasses/contacts for 40 years! Dr. McCoy CARES! She's not there to shuffle you out and collect on your insurance like some eye doctors I've gone to. She takes her time and makes sure she's giving you a terrific exam along with the best advice. I have been going to this office for 3 years now and will not trust my eyes to anyone else. I was unfortunately wearing reading glasses along with contact lenses. I asked Dr. McCoy if I needed bifocals. She was like "no way! We can adjust your contacts so you can read better and not need the reading glasses". Wow! Not one other doctor even mentioned this to me! Excellent selection of frames too, as I wear glasses when I'm at home. She stocks the good stuff and not all frames are ridiculously expensive. Just had my 2 year checkup, and it was even better than the last time. I love the expertise, the cordiality, and the efficiency. Dr. McCoy is very thorough, with the latest equipment and procedures. She explains what she is doing in a very helpful way, and is happy to have an in-depth discussion of conditions and treatments. She was able to help me pursue a treatment that every other optometrist let slide. Sandra Ramirez is professional, friendly, and is happy communicating via email (as is the doctor). This is great as it makes setting appointments and follow-ups easy. She has been very helpful in calculating insurance co-pays and out-of-pocket costs ahead of time so there are no surprises. . The frame selection is great. There are well-known brands, but also several hip lines from Denmark and elsewhere. The space they have been in is lovely, and they where they are moving should be even better. though I don't think I was offered a cappuccino :-) read more
