Dr. McCurdy was 5 star great in my 4 years with him! However, he has retired. If he's gone, I'm gone!

Dr. McCurdy was great, until he switched to Total Vision corporation. He continued to be exceptional But the employees hired after Troy left have never been up to par. The selection of glasses diminished. The customer service diminished. I was unable to get answers to basic questions while attempting to buy glasses for my daughter. Now, they are doing virtual appointments with an optometrist which is ludicrous. Very sad legacy left behind. But happy he is able to retire and enjoy his family! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Craig McCurdy for many years - he was a great Doctor, great service, very thorough exams. I was so sad (for me) that he retired last year - he will be missed. When I called to make an appointment with Total Vision for my annual routine eye exam, I was told that they are doing virtual exams on-line! Apparently, you go into the office and the technicians do all the tests, then someone who is not in the office reviews the information and writes the prescription for the glasses on-line. What is this world coming to?? What's next, a robotic Doctor?? This is definitely not for me! read more

After the retirement of Dr. McCurdy, this practice has become unrecognizable. The in office staff took my insurance and said they'd let me know if there was an issue. They did not. Only after the exam did I learn my insurance no longer covered this practice, and the woman handling my billing made her annoyance known when I asked for an itemized bill so I could understand why my bill was so high. I called my insurance after the fact and it turns out they never even billed insurance. There is no doctor in office. I won't be returning and suggest you also find a different provider. read more

Dr. McCurdy seems OK as optometrists go. He's always pleasant. But I think his association with the Total Vision corporation has pushed his focus into maximum dollar extraction from his customers. But the really huge problem of late is his dereliction of duty when it comes to hiring staff. He is doing a horrible job in this department. And it's not like he is unaware of how the staff is behaving. He is always listening to what is going on in the office. I will not be returning. read more

Agree with other recent reviews that Dr. McCurdy is good but some of his staff is not. One female optician in particular is just about the nastiest, rudest, most vindictive humans I've ever found in a customer service role. This has been over multiple visits and a year. Not going back. Great service from the front desk, both docs are super kind, knowledgeable, and good at explaining what's going on.

I have always loved coming here every year for twenty years . However this year I may go somewhere different. There's a very rude woman that seems new and she is not nice. She was not very helpful and accused me of breaking my glasses when the scratch on them re appeared after being repaired. Not to mention shortly after the frame broke. I didn't even bother telling them because that woman was so rude, I didn't want to bother dealing with her. Dr. McCurdy himself is very professional and always nice. I purchased my glasses elsewhere and didn't have time to drive to Santa Rosa to have a minor adjustment done, so I stopped in Dr. McCurdy's office to see if they could help me out. I fully expected to pay a small fee since I'm not a patient of his, but the woman took my glasses, repaired them and sent me on my way, with no charge! The office is very nice, clean, and staff was friendly. While waiting for my glasses to be repaired, my eleven year old Granddaughter said "this song is very inappropriate for a doctors office" and it was, so I think maybe a change in radio stations would be in order. I have been going to this office for 30 years. Up until this last interaction, I would have given him 5 star rating. Dr. McCurdy is still fantastic as an optometrist. However, his office staff is severely lacking. My sons glasses broke. We ordered new glasses. It took 6 weeks to get the glasses. We called several times for updates and only rarely got a call back. 4 weeks into it, they told us the frames were back ordered. I asked for a call back from the optician and Dr. McCurdy. It took a week for the optician to call me and never got a call from Dr. McCurdy. Somehow, I don't think they ever told him I called. It would be very unlike Dr. McCurdy to ignore a patient. read more

I'm so happy that I found this optometry office two or three years ago when my previous favorite closed its doors. I have had several annual appointments now with Dr. McCurdy and have also purchased several pairs of glasses, as well as had lenses redone in pairs I already had. The equipment used in the exams is modern and high tech, for instance, no dilation drops were needed and no scary, intense glaucoma air blast. Dr McCurdy is thorough and takes time to explain his recommendations in detail. The rest of the staff are wonderful as well. From the front desk people that check you in, to the opticians that help you with the glasses, and the people that deal with your insurance- they are all friendly and explain things well. In my latest interaction, I came in with my primary pair of glasses broken. I expected they would need to order the parts and then struggle with wearing an outdated pair of glasses until the repair could be made, however it turned out that they happened to have just the right part on hand and did the repair right on the spot. I realize that this would not always be the case, and I got lucky somewhat however I always feel in good hands there. I recommend this practice for anyone looking for a good place for eye exams and/or to update your glasses. read more

Wow! I cannot say enough good about this guy and his office! Where to begin.... First, I had a wicked sty in my left eye, stuck there for 2 months. Could not find a physician anywhere who takes my insurance, Partnership. In desperation, I asked a friend who he went to see. This friend recommended Dr. E. Craig McCurdy. Realize, this eye was infected, flaming red, and in great pain. I needed help, like NOW. His empathetic receptionist, Cordy, could hear my pain and offered to "squeeze me in" on the very day I called. No waiting or anything. I made the timeslot at 3:45 p.m. I was out by 4:15 p.m. with my eye cleared, cleaned and cared for. The price was wonderfully reasonable due to lack of insurance and, I am confident, because of Dr. McCurdy's kind and generous spirit. As others have said, Dr. McCurdy's staff is excellent. One of the most thorough and best eye exam I have ever received. Dr. McCurdy is very professional and personable and certainty knows eyes better than any eye doctor I have ever seen - he is also able to explain the intricacies of the eye in an easy and interesting manner. Another big bonus about this office is the entire staff is wonderful. After my exam, Troy helped me pick out some new frames for glasses. As anyone who wears glasses knows, picking out glasses is a tough proposition. Troy made it fun and easy. I can't overstate how easy the process was and it was very reasonable with my VSP insurance. Hands down best eye doctor and staff I've encountered in 50 years. I have gotten eye tests and prescription glasses at numerous places and eye doctors in the past. They are so accommodating and make me feel at home. I don't ever use YELP but I finally am because of their over the top accommodation. I didn't make it to pick up my glasses and Dr. McCurdy delivered my glasses after he got off work. I live in Novato, but they didn't have to offer this service. I felt badly I made him wait because I didn't see his text but he waited and then called me and his demeanor was as always...kind, respectful, happy to help. Like his staff. My optometrist for life...after many horrible problems with other eyeglass places and doctors. Dr. McCurdy and his staff are all friendly and helpful. Dr. McCurdy remembers his patients - even though you only go once a year - and asks how things are going. He also takes the time to answer any questions you have. I had to order new glasses this visit, which is a time consuming process for me as I have to find just the right pair. The staff member, Troy, who was helping me was great as he was honest with his opinions about how different frames looked - and he didn't mind waiting for my husband to drive down to help with the selection process. I truly appreciated that he wasn't just trying to sell me the most expensive frames; he wanted to make sure I was happy with the glasses and that they looked good. Went in for my annual eye exam and to purchase new glasses. Everything was terrific until I returned home and received a call stating the cost of the glasses was over twice what I was quoted. No problem it happens. Then I was called a second time saying that I had to come back because they forgot to take a measurement. I was a little frustrated but with out even asking they went far beyond my expectations to correct things, and I can't say enough about highly professional and friendly they are there.
