Very nice and safe off leash dog park. Its a story of doing a lot with very little... and although ambiance lacks a bit for us humans - our furry four legged friends just love it. This dog park is snuggled right up against the Bay Bridge. It can make for some incredible snapshots for Instagram - but the traffic noise and general overall area leaves a bit to be desired. Maybe you live in One Rincon Hill or nearby - this is the best place to go with your furry friend. I love this park because it makes an effort to correct the problem with living in the general area in the first place. People are great at complaining or maybe even having a fantasy of paradise - but I think what really helps is looking at the man in the mirror and doing something about said problems. I don't know who is in charge of the park - volunteer run?? - I don't know who had the vision for it. Often its necessary to build little parks like this as building requirements - but I think this one is a home run in terms of filling a need... And that is living in tight condo quarters and having no beautiful neighborhood to walk in. I spend a lot of time thinking about how unusual San Francisco is. People don't want to live anywhere near downtown. People usually say its because it 'isn't cute' or 'I have no place to walk my dog' or 'there is nothing to do around there. The result is Nema being one of the best values in the city. I dug back in the history of San Francisco and it always was this way - wealthy business workers 100 years ago spent 9-5 here and left as fast as possible to neighborhoods far far away. And because traffic wasn't as bad back then it was even more of a thing to do. The most important thing here is that your dog will like this place. Plenty of friendly friends to make - and with all the fencing no worries. Interestingly enough there is lots of street parking if your driving from a little bit away - but nobody would do that. It's an okay dog park. Two sections: small and large dog. Both gated. It's underneath the bay bride and there's constant traffic so it's loud. If your dog doesn't like loud noises I wouldn't recommend this dog park. The large play area is a decent size. It's a small hill. It's dirt/sand so could get muddy after it rains. There's only one garbage can (by the entrance) so kind of inconvenient. They are waste bag dispensers but no waste bags. The view of the bay bridge is nice. There's lot of street parking but good luck trying to find any. I went on a Sunday afternoon and got lucky. read more

My husky puppy and I were walking back home from downtown and stumbled across this "gem" of a dog park. We haven't been to a dog park in awhile, but I was attracted by how empty it was. There's a separate section for big and small dogs. We went into the small dog section first to make sure he was in an okay mood, then said hi to the shiba inu in the other part of the park. They got along! The whole park is dirt, and it's not very big, but it's perfect for just a few dogs to play, and it has all the necessities... Water and poop bags. And it has the double fence, which is important being right next to the freeway. This is right next to Pawtrero, where Oz gets his baths and many treats, so it's a perfect stop on the way back to Mission Bay. I'll definitely come back here again if there aren't too many dogs. I'm always grateful for off-leash spaces for dogs! read more

Volunteer run dog park that's all gravel, separated by small and large dogs. There are never too many dogs at the park when I go, so my puppy is hyper focused on chasing me or just making sprints up and down the park. Water station and water bowl is provided. It's right under the bay bridge so it can get loud. Sometimes there are campers right outside the park but they're nice people and don't bother you. read more

Such a cute little dog park that is segregated by dog size (which is always appreciated). Hidden right off of 400 Beale street, you would never know there was a dog park hiding here unless you were looking for it. There's water provided in a communal bowl if you're interested, but I personally feel really uneasy with my dog sharing (and the water is always a weird yellow color) so since I've always been the only person in the small dog area, I just tip the bowl over and bring my own. The small dog area is considerably smaller than the big dog area, but it's more than enough space for my mini doodle to get some zoomies out. Only reason for the 4 star rating is I've gone a few times and there's never been any other small doggos for my girl to play with : ( Also, every time I've gone some dog owners have left closed bags of poop laying around, frustratingly close to the trash can. Literally steps away - pick up after your dog. It's not that hard - it's literally already in the bag! Just get it to the can eek. read more

OK - before you complain about this park, you should be grateful to a small group of dedicated volunteers - Marty Coressel, Jamie, and Josh Wolf - who worked hard getting the grants and permits needed to turn a homeless drug camp into this beautiful park for dogs. I volunteered a couple of times to help clean up the empty lot - and it was disgusting! Think dirty needles, condoms, feces.... There are two sides to the park. The small dog side is small but there are almost never any big huge dogs on the big side during the week so my poodles end up on running on the big side. I think there is a different vibe on the weekends when non-regulars visit. There seems to be a lot more big dogs like pitbulls, labs and German Shepherds. Since the park is entirely volunteer run and maintained, please be a good citizen by picking up after your dogs and any others (it's good karma), picking up trash and not swiping half a box of poop bags (BTW - thanks to Pawtrero Hill for donating bags!) read more

First off, this is a COMMUNITY run dog park. Which means the volunteers open and close it every day, the local pet store, Pawtrero donates the poop bags, they hold regular cleanings once a month on the first Saturday of the month. We like to keep it nice. It's a great dog park with a small dog area and a larger area if you want more exercise for your furry friend. It's brand new and well maintained. I have to admit that I don't have a dog. But I do walk dogs for my friends 5 days a week and this park ROCKS! read more

Overall, I would say this is the best dog park (temperament-wise) in the city. Not only does it offer a separate small and large dog areas, but the owners appear to be very hands-on and proactive with their dogs (which means, very little skirmishes). One big point of contention I have with this place (and the reason why I stopped going as often) is that it's all gravel and no shade, so on sunny days that are relatively warm (65 degrees at least), dogs really pant and their paws suffer. Sure, there's a water fountain, but there's no shade or cool relief for dogs, which really sucks. Apparently this dog park was owned by the city, and now is under private ownership by some residents. I just wish there was a collection or something that was offered in order to get a plot of turf or a tree put in this place for warm days (or even rainy days...talk about extreme exposure!) I went to this dog park for the first time and really liked it. I look forward to going back. My favorite thing is that it is small enough and fully enclosed so that you can take your dogs off leash without worrying about the your dog running away or not coming back when you call them. This is perfect for people who own puppies or recently adopted a dog that is not yet trained in recall, or have a type of dog that like to run off. While off-leash dog parks likes Fort Funston is far more scenic/beautiful and action-packed, it is not well-suited for dogs who cannot yet go off-leash. While this Rincon Hill Dog Park is not huge, it is nevertheless amply big for dogs to run and get their exercise/socialization. This dog park is separately into a bigger area and a smaller area (for smaller dogs). The bigger area is rectangular and has a slight incline (think of it shaped like an Olympic swimming pool). The smaller area is circular and flat. I don't remember there being any grass (maybe some on the sides), just dirt. There is a clean water bowl and faucet, so no need to bring water on your own. There are also poop bags. The entire dog park is clean and not very crowded at all. During the hour that I was there, I saw only 2 other dogs. There is also ample street parking nearby. A couple of things (minor negatives) to note are that 1) there is no shade, so on a sunny day, wear sunscreen and/or a hat; and 2) it is right under the bridge, so it is quite loud with traffic noise. I find both things very tolerable and feel that the ability for the dogs to go off-leash in an enclosed area far outweighs these two points. read more

It's great to have a fully fenced dog park with separate big and small dog sections in the neighborhood! As a small dog owner it's nice to not have to worry about her getting trampled by larger dogs. We've taken our dogs a couple of times and the park is nicely setup and the people that we've met here have been friendly and responsible with their dogs. I'd give this place five stars if it wasn't for a few things. The fencing is nice, etc, but the small dog area is quite small. Our 7lb girl likes to run and there's just not much room, especially if you but only a couple of other dogs and people in the enclosure. There's a lot of dead space between the large and small dog sections I think that could have been better used to increase the size of the small dog side. Frequently, we find ourselves over on the big dog side because it is much longer and our girl can run there. We had one problem there with one of our dogs escaping into the area between the large and small dog areas through an opening in the fence near a tree. Last time we were there it looked like someone had tried to cover this opening with some twigs. Our escape artist was checking this out and probably would have escaped again if we didn't catch her. Thank you for those of you who helped put this together and maintain the park. It's a much needed addition to the area and I look forward to taking our dogs there often. read more

I visited Rincon Hill Dog Park for a Havanese Meetup recently, and really enjoyed it. The small dog area is fenced in, which was perfect since our group had a few puppies in it (mine included!) Also, it's a really good size. There were probably about 20 Havanese dogs and their owners, and we all fit comfortably. My only concern was that there wasn't any grass in the small dog area - just dirt and concrete. Alternatively, there are a few benches, which were great for sitting and chatting with other dog owners. My dog seemed to really enjoy it, and left with a big smile on her face! Plus, there is lots of metered parking nearby. I don't live in that neighborhood, and navigating the bus with a puppy can be tricky, so it was nice that I could drive there and not worry about parking. We came here yesterday for the first time before our dogs were due for a grooming appointment. I LOVE the fact that they have a small dogs section. There were no other dogs in that area when we first arrived, but it meant my dogs could explore without feeling scared and encountering big dogs. Over the years they've become less interested in playing with big dogs so I love that they had this option and this dog park. It was pretty quiet overall, but that could also be a good thing. This is a pretty nice park which is really really large and with plenty of space for your dog to run around. They provide poop bags and water, which is awesome. There's a separate area for small and large dogs, which is great as well. The reason why I give 2 stars is because the ground is all dirt with some large pebbles, as opposed to some other dog parks with grass. My dog loves running hard to play fetch and often times he has scraped his paws on the dirt and pebbles and gotten cuts on them. He one time got a very large cut which prevented him from running for over a week. If the ground were grassy (even fake grass is nice), it'd be the perfect place to bring my dog. However, if you have a dog that runs hard you might want to pass. I can't justify coming here anymore with the amount of cuts (which involved a bit of bleeding) that my dog has unfortunately gotten from the number of pebbles lying around. read more

.7 of a mile, each way, twice a day. When you live in the city, especially SoMA, it's difficult to find space for your pups to walk let alone run. This grotty strip of land turned dog park is a godsend for the residents/dog owners in the area. It has separate small dog and big dog areas with water bowls and spouts, poop bags, benches, double gates, and a trash can. It smells strongly of dog pee. The ample running surface is compact dirt which isn't the greatest (for the dogs) because it's dusty, dirty, muddy, and rocky. When the dogs run (I have sighthounds so they run fast) their paws get cut up and if they tumble, expect road rash (if they have a short coat). For the most part, the dogs are well behaved/mannered and the owners try to ensure proper dog play. I recognized many of them from SF Puppy Prep puppy socials so a lot of us are on the same dog rearing page. During the day dog walkers bring hoards of dogs here and they (the dogs and dog walkers) mostly stand around looking bored texting on their phones. In the evening, a good group of owners bring their dogs here routinely. But just like the office or PTA, the dog park politics can be sort of dramatically comical. There's a sporadically unfriendly Russian man who at times curses and yells at certain dog owners and often throws your tennis balls in the trash while instructing you not to let your dog cross his beloved Dobermans path. At one point there was a push to get him banned permanently. There is also a lady who knows nothing of dog psychology who walks her ill-mannered Yorkie and Min Pin on a leash in the pens. She was leash walking her dogs in the big dog area and her little yappy Yorkie with small dog syndrome provoked/tried to attack an unleashed larger dog who defended itself by picking up the tiny dog and shaking it. The lady was incensed, saying "this is why I keep my dogs on the leash, to protect them." Oh dear. You can't win them all. read more

I'm all for fenced-in city dog parks but you're going to have to pardon my candor - Rincon really doesn't have a ton going for it in the looks department. Props go out to the super friendly volunteers who maintain the surrounding landscaping on a monthly basis. But no amount of careful trimming and tending can take a dog park that is only comprised of dirt and make it shine like a diamond. My dog had a great time playing with a new friend but after just a few minutes of rolling around in the dirt, he was so filthy that I took him to nearby Bernie's for a bath before getting into my car to head home. Rincon certainly serves its purpose of entertaining and exercising our dogs, but a little plush, green grass would go a long way! Don't bring Fido here unless you're already planning on bathing him immediately after your play session. read more

First of all (and before I list any complaints) I have to acknowledge and thank all of the dedicated and hard working people who made this park a reality and continue to work hard daily to ensure that it functions. This is a great dog park in an area of the City that otherwise wouldn't have such a valuable amenity. The large dog and small dog spaces are adequate in size and props to Pawtrero for supplying waste bags. As an owner of a little tyke, I only wish that the small dog area had more considerate fencing (some of the smaller dogs can slip right through the slats) and had signage (as other parks do) describing what your small dog should look like (e.g., no dogs over a certain height). There have been numerous occasions of large dogs in the small dog area with their owners' reasoning being that "my big dog likes small dogs." Sorry, but that still doesn't make your big dog a small dog and doesn't make us small dog owners comfortable. read more

This a nice large park with a separated small dog area. The larger area is a great length for passing the ball and really letting your pup cut loose and run. The smaller dog area is not so great for running but that's ok. Just having an area where my little guy can feel safe among like-sized dogs is huge. It's a bit of a hike from most places. But a quick lyft and you're there. I went on a Sunday around 2:30 and it was not very populated. Just enough sprinkling in to keep my dog interested while not being overwhelmed. read more

Two separate areas are fenced off - one, a small round area for ankle biters, and the other, an enormously long run for the big guys and hyper breeds. This has instantly made my life easier. New Year's Day on Wed at 1:30pm. Parking was easy and right across the street from the entrance. Seems like a nice part of the city. I liked the multiple fencing to prevent escapes. Im reviewing the large dog side of the park. I thought it was a good size easy enough to keep track of your dog in sight. Two height levels of water faucets that shoot out a good amount of water fast! I hate dog parks where the water comes out super slow and I'm standing there forever with thirsty dogs waiting for a bowl of water so this was a plus. Also the gravel and stoned area by the water prevented muddy areas like some parks with dirt and grass tend to get muddy and dirty up dogs' paws. They provide poop bags..kinda wish a trash can was closer as it was outside the gate, but I guess this way it keeps the smell away from the sitting area. I actually like the gravel so poop is easier to pick up and you can see where dogs peed versus grass or AstroTurf it's hard to tell if you're walking on pee. Clean and well maintained landscaping surrounding the area. Although no dogs were there, I still give it 5 stars based in this one experience. read more

Fantastic new dog park that is clean and well-maintained. I usually go to the dog park in Golden Gate Park but there are mostly large breeds there. Not the most fun for my little pomeranian and chiweenie. At Rincon there is an area for both large and small dogs with a double gate. There are always friends to play with and the sun is out shinning most days. Parking is easy to find on the side streets. I just wish Rincon was closer to my home. read more

Went to the park for the first time tonight and was overall impressed. There are two separate enclosures - 1 for small dogs and the other for large dogs. We went in the large enclosure and it had a good amount of space. The small dog park looked like it was also smaller in size, but still a decent amount of space. There is no grass in either of the parks which is a shame and is why I left a star off as that is always nice to have. We went at 8:30pm and there was nobody else there so I couldn't say whether it gets busy or not. Both parks were extremely well maintained and there was no dog mess anywhere which was great. There are poop bags provided and they looked really well stocked. Overall, very impressed with the park and will definitely be going back. read more

I don't even have a dog and I love this park! It is so exciting to see a community effort come together, with real results and (an apparent) lack of bickering. Marty and Josh got this ball rolling and we had the BEST grand opening event this past weekend. Great turn-out, a real community event. We even got one little critter adopted courtesy of the ASPCA. I would like like to give props to Caltrans, Mohammad Nuru, Supervisor Jane Kim -- and Mr. Bud E. Love and his pet, Sammy Davis, Jr. for an entertaining afternoon. For starters, this park was really needed in the neighborhood! Its unfortunate that there is no city funding or home owner contributions toward the maintenance of the park but thank goodness for the gatekeepers and other volunteers that keep it going. The park its self is well built. There is good drainage when it rains unlike other parks with DG (Decomposed Granite) and the landscaping is new but on its ways to looking really really nice! :) Thank you to all that put this park together. First gated dog park I've ever gone to in San Francisco. It's okay. Its just basically a gated dirt area for your dogs to roam. I went there near dawn, and with the city buildings towering over the area, there wasn't much sun or dogs present ): And that's they main reason you want to go to the dog park right? To watch your dog play with other dogs. The dirt was kinda gritty, which makes it easy to get into your flats. The small dog area is really small, probably one of the smallest I've ever seen. It's slightly out of the way from everything else, which is good for the dogs since they won't go crazy. But inconvenient when you get there and realize there's no dogs in sight :/ read more

Long ways away from where I live but it was worth the trip. Small little doggy park right under the bay bridge (not for dogs that don't like loud noises or sounds of the freeway overhead). Other than the sound the park is enclosed and lit pretty well and it was pretty dark by the time I arrived at the park. I was worried it would be to dark to do anything but it wasn't! I'm hoping that next time I make it down that way it will be earlier and there will be more doggies. I'd like to see what it looks like on a busy day or the busiest time of day I guess. read more

Living in the financial district, it's so nice to find a little haven for dogs right in the middle of the city! Although it's a bit noisy here, the dogs don't care - they love the fact that they can run off leash and romp around with their buddies. It's nice that there are two sections to this dog park - the larger area for big dogs, and a smaller spot for the little guys. Even though my dog is only a 10-lb Bichon, she sometimes prefers the big dog section because it's bigger and there's lots more action happening there. And when the big dogs are too hyper for her, we retreat back to the small dog area where she can mellow out and watch the action. This park is clean, and it's a nice perk that poop bags and fresh water are provided. Plus, all the people I've met here have been incredibly friendly. My pups love this haven and I would give it 5 stars if patrons would do a better job of cleaning up after their dogs. One of my pups got a bad case of parasites (coccidia). I take pride in spending time here with my neighbors and their pets and do my part in keeping it clean so I would encourage those who frequent the place to do the same. read more
