If you're ever in the CASTRO and your dog is with you, this is a cute little "off leash" dog park where they can run around and play with other dogs. It's located a few blocks off 18th and Castro. There are a few benches for us human to sit around on to watch while our dogs are having too much fun. There is no separation for small to medium to large dogs. So do watch your dog. There are clean water bowls and a hose. There are no grass here but they do have several pop-up tents for shades great on hot days or during rainy weather. If you've got kids, take them with you as there is a "kiddie" playground just behind this dog park. There is also a baseball field and a tennis court so make it a family outing if you can. This dog park does appear to be a community gathering as everyone "kinda" knows each other like "dog family." I would imagine during the weekend it can get real busy. We were here during the weekday after 5PM and it filled up quickly especially once the residents started coming home from work. All in all, it's nice to know that there is an "off leash" dog park in the CASTRO where the residents can socialize their dogs. Way cool! Cheers! :p read more

My boyfriend and I regularly go to Mission Creek Dog Park, but we decided to expand our horizons and take our husky puppy to Dolores Park for a few hours of human chill time. Feeling bad that he still had so much energy, we took a stroll to Eureka Valley Dog Park. I used to live in the Castro District, so it felt weird to be back, but even when I lived here, I didn't even know this dog park existed! It's a pretty expansive field of dirt, without any hidden corners so you can easily keep an eye on your dog. I don't really like how dusty this park is, though I'm sure the regulars don't mind. Our park has gravel and fake grass, while this one is just covered with dirt. There's a corner with hoses for water bowls, and it gets easily muddy, and dogs play in it. The regulars are quite friendly, though. Very chatty! There's a few plastic lawn chairs for humans to sit in, as well as a tent with some additional seats. It's very casual and homemade. I don't think this area was built with the intention of being a dog park, but whoever did certainly made it work. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back to Eureka Valley Dog Park, but Oz enjoyed his time there! read more

I really love this fenced off dogpark in SF. The people are friendly, dogs seem to love it and have a lot of fun with the 1000s of tennisballs that are around. Yes, this is in my opinion the best, most dogfriendly AND most people friendly dogpark I have been to in this city. It is a lot smaller than, for example, Douglas Dogpark. But it also is a lot less tense than Douglas Dogpark. And the people are a lot less bitchy than at Douglas. read more

One of my favorite man-made dog parks in the city -mainly for the type and temperament of dogs that visit- despite it not having grass. The owners and dog walkers who frequent the park are kind and respectful. I enjoy a lazy weekend morning conversing about dogs with gay dog lovers and owners. I also enjoy conversing about the pros and cons of leather vests and *ahem* personal grooming. The all-male crowd that was here seemed reeeeeeeeeally interested in whether or not I was a closet lesbian and my tips and tricks for getting a dog to stop humping. I made the mistake of going around 1:00pm one day this week. (No choice because of work) Nothing's really changed. I'd actually say it's probably become worse. There's mainly one clique that gathers with the large woman who gives all the dogs treats. I'm pretty sure her dog is an obese Golden, but she yells at *everyone's* dog. She's really quite rude. There are still a lot of people who don't pick up after their dog(s), but I watched a couple people pick up other droppings after they'd picked up after their own dog(s). (The dog walkers are really good about this!!) It's a big space to play fetch with your pup, with plenty of room to run! My only advice would be to go earlier in the day or early evening, (as I'll continue to) so that you avoid those "bad apples" I wrote about in my previous post. read more

Nice, big fenced area for dogs to go run and play - mine really loves to do laps here. Mostly responsible dog owners and close proximity to a busy community. All big pluses for me - but here's where it goes bad..... Why, oh why must I feel like I'm trapped in a tanning bed every time I go here? There is NO shade here unless I flatten myself up against the fence that borders the tennis court - would it kill them to plant a tree or two here? Isn't that what dogs like anyway? Grass would also be a nice addition instead of the kitty-litter gravel that currently covers the ground. This shit is toxic I'm sure and I was outdone when I found out the solution to the roaming dust clouds from this shit was to spray a polymer over the entire surface. *my hand slapping my face* GRASS people! GRASS! Also - NO WATER SOURCE! Are you fucking kidding me? And don't you tell me that having drinking fountains out at the kid play area is good enough. Those are almost always broken and require multiple trips to fill all the plastic jugs with enough water for the dogs on a busy afternoon. PUT IN A WATER SPIGOT OR ELSE! Overall an acceptable place to bring your dog, but if there was any other alternative nearby, I would totally break up with this place in a heartbeat. read more

This place isn't the prettiest, but it has exactly what any sighthound owner needs - sky-high fencing. Until I found out about this place I'd been forced to drive to Sausalito on the weekends to take my high speed hound out for a fenced-in run. I like that there's a dog park in the Castro. Its one more spot I can meet up with my friends, but also have my dog meet up and make friends. It's not a gigantic park. Dogs of all sizes play together, which I like because all my friends have small dogs, and my dog is a 30lb puppy. There is a water spigot (that review is from a few years ago that says there isn't one)...there's a little shade too. The people here pay more attention to their dogs than in other dog parks, maybe because it's smaller and easier to, maybe because it's a mix of large and small dogs. Parking here is difficult any time other than the middle of a weekday (and then you can get parking somewhere on the block around the park). However, if you're parked in the Castro, there are a couple pet food stores you can buy your dog a treat at on the way to the park.... read more

Best place to take my puppy! Its randomly behind all the bars in the castro in a nice, large, fenced off area for dogs to roam around off leash. Plenty of other dogs to play with and plenty of room. Downside is its REALLY dirty since the whole thing is all dirt and the whole place smells like pee. I mean yes, what do you expect for a dog park where all dogs do is play, pee and crap everywhere, but atleast places with grass cover up the smell. Regardless of how smelly it is, its a great place to take your dog to socialize to meet other dogs and plenty of places for the owners to sit either in the shade or sun. PLUS the dog park is directly behind the tennis court so there are plenty of tennis balls for dogs to play with from the stray balls that are accidentally hit over the fence. read more

This is a cute dog run in the eureka valley/ Castro area. It is on the smaller side- but very well kept and it has huge potted plants- which is a nice touch as dog parks are typically lacking in greenery due to excessive dog interaction. I went early in the morning on a Saturday and there were about 4 other dogs there. read more

It's a really nice dog park that is completely fenced in. I like that it's open from 7 to 9 so I can take my dog for an early morning or late night potty. I'm not so much a fan of the occasional owner who is not too responsible with their dog (i.e. if your dog starts humping my dog over and over, please do something?!). This is my favorite park yet. I love that the enclosed area and double gates "prevent heartache." They actually have shade now! They put in a huge awning thing. This park has balls and ropes for dogs to use. It also provides water in bowls with refills on the side. By the children's playground, there is a dog water fountain! How cool is that! Everybody here is really nice. They actually try to talk to you, unlike some places where people snub you and keep in a clique. The ONLY downside is the barely there sand. When dogs run, they kick up a storm! However, sand is much easier to pick up poop than grass. I think we all appreciate that. read more

Been on vacation here in San Francisco for a few days and brought my dog. He needs to get out or else he gets crabby. So I looked up a few dog parks to take him to and this is the better of the two that I have tried in the area. The dogs are nice and the people are nice too. I and my little baby liked this place and the only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it could be a bit bigger. This dog park is fenced in with nice potted plants. It's large enough for a good group of dogs and there is plenty of seating, thanks to a recent community upgrade. There is a shaded area and a spigot to provide your dog with water. It's a bit challenging to find parking in this area of the city. No, there isn't grass, but my guess is that grass is expensive to maintain for the city. I much prefer it to the dirt space that is the dog training area in golden gate park and it's a relief to find a fenced in area for those with dogs with selective recall. read more

This is a fun place to come with your dog. I have so many friends I have made over the years, too. It's a nice place to meet people and their dogs. A few of the dog owners are the ones who have made this park what it is. They supplied the seating, the tarp to sit under,and the planter boxes with trees and plants. This is a civilized, well-maintained dog park. Gates are locked at night to prevent vandalism. The entire park is a hard dirt surface (like a baseball infield) with no shade except a small awning with a few seats. I prefer parks with grass and trees, but in general this is a nice place in the Castro for people and dogs. read more

I took my dogs to this Dog Park yesterday. While the park itself was fine and my dogs had a good time, the people were not. I was visiting from NY for two weeks. Most people were very unwelcoming and would not even smile or say hello, even when spoken to. There was one particular owner, that of a small long haired king clavier everyone called "Barnard" that was an irresponsible owner. The dog was no more than 10 lbs but he proceeded to jump on me, on my purse, and try to take my dog treats. Most responsible owners would get their dog off. He did nothing, despite the fact that he was sitting on a bench next to me. I tried to remove my purse and the dog became aggressive. It actually bite me, at which point I promptly removed the dog and said "oww" very loud. The dog owner did nothing and said nothing. I got my dogs and left. My dogs and I have been to dog parks from the east coast, to the west coast, and even in Austria. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A MORE UNFRIENDLY PARK IN MY LIFE. I would never recommend this park to anyone visiting SF. read more

AMAZING. This place is the Stern Grove of dog parks for those us "over protective" parents. I just went to the park for the first time yesterday after much research and apprehension. See my angel not only is a runner but he also is every bit a puppy even at 5. For an admittedly overprotective Mommy the fact this place is not only gated but double gated puts me at a state of relaxation that I've never known at a dog park. Yeah the place smells a little like dog pee but come on it's a dog park. The place has everything a forgetful pet owner would want too. Water bowls, check. Hose for water, double check. Potty bags, in mass, wish I would have know that part before I bought some over priced bags en route. Tennis balls, check. At night there's even some lighting, mind you not stadium lighting, that flows over from the streetlights near by. Sonny and I will most definitely be going there again and again, hopefully in the future he won't get kinky with a Priest's dog. Warning if you see me there be prepared for my dog to violate yours, what can I say he's orally fixated. read more

I loved this place and was coming here daily... until i had THE MOST unpleasantly horrible experience with a completely nutso and totally disrespectful owner ... he ignored his dogs, kept one on a leash and under his chair (clearly the dog did not like being at the park) and then started yelling at me when my dog wanted to play with his dogs. He kicked my dog away, got defensive with me and several other owners who were trying to explain that dogs play at dog parks and ruined the entire atmosphere and vibe - which is usually chill and friendly. According to some of the other owners, this guy is there daily in the afternoon and has caused trouble with other owners. Sadly, that means i'm never going back. read more

I really wanted to love this dog park because its only a mile away from me and it is enclosed but... its really stinky. I mean super stinky dog pee stink. I know its a dog park, but there is nothing to mask the odor. Also I think my dog and I pick up on the smells and bring it home from the park... People are super nice here (but must they all stand in the middle trying to pick up on each other? there's no room to throw the ball for dogs to run without knocking people over) and there's shade built in for people and benches brought in, but there's really no great shade. The dirt soaks up all the heat and it gets super hot coming from the ground and the sun. My dog got super hot because there's not very much shade for dogs. it is an OK dog park... bummer there isn't more grass or that they would open up the baseball field to dogs. read more

One of the nicest dog parks in SF, not so much for its vistas and size, but for the social lives of dogs and their owners. The regulars maintain the place. The dogs are super friendly. Their owners, nice to hang around with. Though there are some big potted plants that the dogs run into when excited - a bit not safe. read more

Great park if you're looking for one with high fences. It smells like pee and parking is often difficult, but the dogs love it. Probably 1/2 an acre large, made of sand and usually full of large and small dogs running amok. If you're smart you won't stand in the middle of the park (on your cell phone). read more

I've visited many dog Parks in the Bay Area and I have to admit that this place is just alright, average, maybe a little below standards. First of all, this place stinks like urine and it can be a little unbearable to those of you who have a low tolerance for urine stench. There are no poop bags but I guess they are trying to be green and no waste plastic bags but hey I like it when I go to a dog park and there are plastic poop bags for me to take so I got some when I walk my dog. Instead this place has a poop shovel to pick up after your dog which is better and using countless plastic bags I guess. However there is only 1 garage can near this park and its located in the gate before u enter the dog area, only 1 garbage isn't enough to keep this park clean. This place has small and big dogs together which can be dangerous, so keep your dogs in control and maintain the aggressive ones. There is plenty of seating as well as shaded seating for pet owners which is a delightful plus as well as a parking lot located just inches away which is awesome. The park itself has double gates, a must for dog parks for safety reasons, you know how dogs get exited when a new dog somes in and a double gate prevents accidental escapes. The entire park is all sand, This park had nice dogs and owners, located in the Castro, and ill probably come again once in a while. read more
