Inn At 835 - Delphinium Room

    Inn At 835

    $$$

I want to start with a couple of warnings to would-be customers of Inn at 835, then I'll move on to…read morepraise. FYI I was in the Delphinium Room. First, and most importantly, if you or someone you are traveling with is elderly or has limited mobility, please double check the room you've been assigned to. When I was getting in and out of the shower/jacuzzi tub combo, it occurred to me how difficult the leap over the edge into a slick tub would be for someone my father's age. (I did use and REALLY enjoy the jacuzzi, and the attached shower was fine, but it's something to note.) Also, shower before 8:30 if you want any hot water! Second, if you're going to Springfield for work and will need stable and strong WiFi, this is NOT the hotel for you. I was just trying to check email and could barely get enough signal to do that. The signal didn't seem to be any better in the cafe area downstairs. Third, if you need a hairdryer, be sure to bring your own. They don't have them in the rooms. Now, on to the positives! What a cute little hotel this was. Parking was easy and free. There was hot breakfast available, which I didn't try due to time constraints. But there were bagels (only blueberry, weirdly enough) and muffins and toast. Also, the coffee was fantastic! The room was clean enough, but I did notice some small crumbs on the rug when I arrived. There were a couple of holes in the sheets, but the sheets were certainly clean and the bed was comfy! There are some great little touches at this inn, such as the warm cookies that arrive each evening and the modest little happy hour in the afternoons. I would absolutely stay here again--it was unlike anywhere I've stayed before. And it was the perfect spot for touring around the Lincoln stuff and the Dana House and so forth.

Unfortunately the many positives (large interesting historic building, informed and personal staff,…read morewalkable area, extra touches like warm cookies) were overshadowed by one LARGE fail. BEDBUG bites after our stay. Despite convincing photographic evidence and a medical diagnosis the management denied the possibility, claimed pest control found no evidence, and dismissed our complaints. We are sadly still taking measures to ensure our homes do not get infested.

Not only is the facility in a great downtown location (which was not that important to me) but the grounds are well kept, and upon further observation the surrounding neighborhood's yards are also very well kept. Plenty of parking when I arrived. The instructions that were sent via email are very detailed, not one thing was left out. Be aware that there is no live human being to check you in or out...think of it almost like an airbnb because you get a contactless check in with key code for the door. Arrive and Thrive Co is the company out of Cali that manages this property, they are super helpful and responsive via email but when I have tried to call them I haven't been able to reach a human being. James was the main contact who was very helpful during my two stays. He also recommended another property they manage (The Audrey apartments) which I also stayed at for one evening and was stellar overall. There is no food service at the rooms in the Pasfield House other than you can order 24 hours ahead of time via an app. If you are short on time, and don't know your way around, I highly recommend the avocado and toast breakfast. It was super convenient, I was staying two nights in the George and ordered breakfast for my second morning. The housekeeping staff put the box breakfast in my mini fridge the afternoon prior. For $14 it was a good deal, with two pieces of multigrain bread, avocado spread, 2 hard boiled eggs, an orange and juice. They also put out a toaster for me. There are two tiny ice machines on the second floor which comes in handy. The building was very quiet both times I stayed. The rooms especially the bathrooms are nicely kept and the bathrooms have been renovated. I liked the Hive because there was a trundle bed in the living room and a nice sized kitchen, plus a large master bedroom. Plenty of room for two people and very comfortable. Beautifully decorated living rooms and bedrooms, loved the history of the building. I was very pleased with my stays and I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Springfield. Yes it is a bit more pricey than the standard chain hotels but it is worth it! SO CLEAN.

I genuinely do not understand how this hotel has such positive reviews. The photos online were…read moreextremely misleading compared to the actual condition of the room. Upon entering the room, I was immediately met with an unpleasant odor. As I started looking around, things only got worse. The bathtub in the bathroom was visibly dirty, the walls throughout the room had stains all over them, and there were crumbs left on the floor that made it obvious the room was not cleaned properly before my arrival. What really shocked me was how neglected certain areas were. Under the bed looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time, and the area around the AC unit was covered in buildup and dirt to the point where it seemed like nobody had touched it for months. Even the mini fridge was an issue because the door would barely stay closed. For the price paid and the way this hotel presents itself online, this experience was beyond disappointing. I booked this hotel based on the reviews and photos, and I honestly feel misled. I normally do not leave negative reviews, but people deserve to know what they are actually walking into before spending their money here.

My first room was clean and the front desk even called to make sure everything was okay (nice touch). The downside was the temperature. The room was uncomfortably warm, and after hours of trying to cool it down, I finally asked the front desk. They immediately moved me to a Jr. Suite to make up for it--which I really appreciated. The suite was spacious and had a microwave, but no fridge (even though there was an empty space clearly meant for one). My first room had neither, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with leftovers or snacks. The AC in the suite seemed better at first, but the room had a weird smell and by the middle of the night, it was back to being too warm no matter how low I set it. On the plus side, the bed and pillows were really comfortable, and the location is close to everything you'd want. On the downside, the "continental breakfast" was basically nonexistent, so definitely don't book this place for that. Overall, I'd maybe stay again if the AC issue gets fixed, because the staff and location do make up for a lot.

Manager claims they tried to assist me professionally. Yet, threatened to call the police because my voice got slightly loud? There was an entire lobby full of people I work with. The way you behaved, they really thought I was the initiator, but your video shows exactly what happened. Being a business I hope you are able to show why I'm false. Just because you make a claim doesn't mean it is an accurate depiction of events as they have enfolded in real time. Manager is not explaining how when he made this assertion I began whispering. He refused to continue speaking with me. After 1 perceived slight. The manager who couldn't be bothered to give me his name dismissed me. Sir, please note I am being detailed in effort for you to retract your statement to my former employer, since you are listed as a reason for the damage I'm going to experience from the lack of income. I want you to be advised I intend to use anything you say as proof of your campaign to defame me by not correcting yourself through the proper channels. This wasn't just a bad experience it was life changing for me. Does Aarti know you're making these bad decisions? Video shows manager coralling me to an area away from the front desk. I have 3 bags with me at this time. Manager had created this situation where it would be difficult for me to complete any request he made. With 3 bags and the hotel's key card in my possession, how is it possible to leave quickly? The manager could address the content of this message point by point, but since they don't appreciate the people trying to give them business, they're going to post some auto-generated response that absolutely disregards the events that occured, as they occured, and why they occured. You are new at this. You should love that people are trying to embrace you. I even know some Hindi. The other woman at least recognized that I was extending to her goodwill. Sir, you and your other teammate don't have her friendliness. She is someone who can do this work. You and the other person treat people like you yourself are so frightened. Whatever it is that you are feeling. It's not normal for this work. This is not something that anyone can control. That's why it's so baffaling that you think you need to "do" so much! Hope Aarti Patel is happy with how much money you are going to lose for him manager. Guess who gives money to Aarti manager? People like me. A 2.1 star rating on Yelp is pretty bad news. Your real job is to help Aarti Patel make money. All the dumb stuff you're doing is absolutely worthless. You should try engaging with your guests. Some would stay with you for decades. Yet you don't realize how to illicit this type of loyalty. Evernell does. People would book rooms just to hear her voice in the morning. That's how it really works. You should 100% step aside and let Evernell save this place for you. The woman who works the night shift occasionally actually is an accountant. Cheap labor makes cheap things. This place is in an excellent location. Owners of this hotel have obviously relied on that fact instead of putting money into it. Right owners this thing becomes Wonder Bread. Unfortunately, it's just another pop-up sucking some dollars out of people. Threating black staff, black guests, and doing fine! Sorry Evernell for them trying to bully you every day. That's what is normal I guess. - End Edit Evernell was amazing! The manager and staff working from 6-11 are absolutely irritating. Need a key card? Expect to also deal with check out. Question about nearest store, pharmacy, hospital? Expect blank stares and questions about check out, or something else you didn't ask about. I seriously thought they are using slave labor. Tried to express my frustration about not having requests acknowledged to the manager. As I explained my feelings on the several days of interacting with his staffer, he interrupted me to ask my room number. I ask him to please allow me to finish my statement. Because I'm a Black, when my voice modulated upwards. He immediately says I'm yelling. Tells me to leave the establishment. He threatened me with the POLICE. This was a ploy to direct the narrative. He then corraled me away from the front desk and into an adjacent sitting area. Since I was checking out, I had my bags. Me and my bags. We are navigating this and the manager thinks this is acceptable? The manager is running some type of campaign against Evernell who is beloved by all guests. Multiple people spoke about how her helpfulness and usefulness.

The rooms themselves are quite spacious with comfortable beds and a nice restroom. The beds come with plenty of pillows and a mattress that's not too firm and a good set of blankets and sheets. The furniture and appliances around the room are fairly basic, and will get the job done to ensure that you have a comfortable stay. The breakfast is pretty good here, with plenty of juice and hot drink options. The eggs, waffles, sausage are the hot items with cereals, breads, yogurt, apple, banana, oatmeal, and other items providing a good way to have a quick bite before you leave for the day. The rooms come with a coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave. It has all of the standard amenities but I was impressed that the regular bar soap was replaced with Dove Beauty Bars. Since my skin gets dried out by the standard bar soaps this was a nice and welcome feature. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The hotel was quiet and I was able to have a nice night's sleep. The breakfast was held in a nice big room with plenty of seating for many guests. They offered a lot of food from eggs and sausage to waffles to cereal to yogurt to bagels and bread. Coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juices, milk and water were offered as drinks. This hotel is located close to the Illinois State Fairgrounds and is ten minutes from downtown and the State Capitol.
