I was quoted $3,500 without insurance, but somehow $5,000 with insurance. That alone didn't make sense. When I asked for clarification and a proper breakdown, I never received one. I am married and have joint insurance coverage, yet the front office did not properly run my married insurance plan. Instead, I was repeatedly told that I "aged out at 26," which is irrelevant when you are legally married and covered under a spouse's policy. This showed a concerning lack of understanding of how insurance coordination works. When you're discussing thousands of dollars for orthodontic treatment, accuracy and knowledge are essential. Unfortunately, the pricing confusion and lack of follow-up made me lose confidence in moving forward here. After reviewing the most recent feedback posted this year, I noticed a pattern of negative experiences. In hindsight, I should have paid closer attention. I ultimately chose Smilebliss Orthodontics (512 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282), where I was quoted $2,900 without insurance. They properly reviewed my insurance, and my coverage handled the majority of the cost -- leaving me with only $900 out of pocket. I have MetLife insurance through American Airlines, and they clearly take care of their employees by offering strong benefits. When processed correctly, the coverage worked exactly as it should. Staff is nice and facility is always clean. However it is a very slow office. If you have an appointment at 5:00 be prepared not to be seen til at least 530. They don't offer the parents to go to the back with their child and I am not really comfortable with that either. They only want the patient in the treatment area and to me that is definitely a bit strange. As a parent I know my child won't tell me everything they say because what 14 year old listens to everything ?? lol .... They seem to be good at what they do but I wish they were a little more on time with appointments and let the parents sit in as well. read more

One Word: Disappointing This place consistently overbooks appointments, and as a patient, you won't feel like a priority. I've been coming here for over 3 years and have seen multiple main dentists come and go. Each time, I've been given a different date for when my braces would come off and every single time, that date passed with no progress. I once had an emergency and missed an appointment, and the next available one was two months out. I had even discussed coming in every two weeks with the dentist so I could get my braces off by the end of summer, as promised. Instead, they pushed it to July 30th. I was promised this early May. On top of all that, they charge extra and have gone against their own contract time and time again. I would not recommend this place based on my experience. read more

This place is so unorganized I don't know how they are even open. Wait at least 30 min after your scheduled appointment each time. We've been coming here for a year and have never once had an on time appointment or an appointment with no issues. The office girls need some serious training on customer service and how to schedule a patient. I have had more issues here than I have had at any other place ever. Since I didnt speak to the front desk in Spanish, she couldn't schedule my daughter's next appointment while I waited but the 2 people who went up after me who's kids went in after mine were able to do it. If I would have talked to her in Spanish I probably would have gotten my next appointment scheduled instead of having to wait. I know Spanish and could clearly hear 2 people make their next appointments. I can't wait til my daughter is done with this place. I would never recommend coming here. Would not recommend. They only have 1 ortho doctor and don't even have ortho services available everyday of the week so they cram 100 people in on one day. Yes they're affordable but at the cost of patient experience. Oh and if you have a braces emergency, you're out of luck. Appointments for braces at this location are a joke. Expect to wait 10-12 weeks in between appointments and if you need to be seen in the meantime, expect to wait 7 hours to be seen as a "walk in", this place is literally a sweat shop for braces, you're better off paying $5,000 for a place that doesn't take it more patients that they can handle and actually have realistic scheduling. read more

If you go here for an extraction, make sure the assistant and the dentist are both talking about the right tooth. I told the assistant the last tooth on my bottom left, which she then pointed at on the x-ray, and I confirmed, and the second to last was pulled. She relayed witch tooth to the dentist by the tooth number, and she told him the wrong number. They did absolutely nothing about pulling the wrong tooth and just pulled the right one when I came back. The dentist said he was not going to charge me for the tooth they were not supposed to pull since it was going to have to probably come out later just to look at it as it was done free of charge. Like WTF! The quality of my teeth should not matter. You took something out of my mouth that can't be put back. They should have refunded my money! They also didn't even send me with gauze as the after care instructions say they are supposed to. I don't recommend this place AT ALL! This place is a joke and a scam! I went in to get a teeth cleaning. The dentist spoke with me for about 2 minutes and then sent the tech in to do the cleaning with the paste. She put a TINY bit on each tooth and didn't even touch all of my teeth. Took her like 5 minutes and the proceeds to tel me to go to the front to pay the $86! For a 7 minute appointment! And that was on top of what I had to pay for X rays that they made me get. I asked to see the dentist and said what happend to the rest of the cleaning? Risas Dental does not put their patients first, they only care about money!! they have one doctor and like 20 people being seen at once, they cancel my appts without telling me, they keep telling me they "called me" but that's a lie , no VM, and they make you waste your time driving there and getting off work . It's been over 2 months and they can't "figure something out" for my dental work and I even went to an outside dentist to get X-rays done that they can't do. They sure are ready to take payment every month tho. The techs customer service is HORRIBLE! Have been going here for 3 years and between the front desk and their dental techs, HORRIBLE! My orthodontics has been amazing and I'm just glad to finally have my braces off and be done with this company. If you need to reschedule they have nothing within 60 days. Have to say i really HATE going to the dentist but had some work that needed to get done. My insurance was going to run out today so the office got me in right away. The work i needed took 2 visits they got in me last saturday and then last night. Dr King and dental assistant Alexis were amazing. Dr king explained future plans needed as soon as my new insurance starts and reassured me about the health of my teeth. Alexis was AMAZING. I need to give a well-deserved 5-star review to the Risas Dental team for completely altering my preconceived notions about 'visiting the Dentist.' For starters, the layout of the center has a open floor-plan with modern decor. The music they play is great and on the louder, up-tempo side, which for a millennial like myself is such a welcomed feature - especially when you need something to take your mind off the nerves. In addition, each of the patient rooms have a TV on the ceiling where you can select a channel allowing you to get your fillings and get your Sports Center on at the same time if you so choose - really neat feature indeed! My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Dr. John Coleman who was very pleasant to work with, genuine, knowledgeable, and overall a true professional through and through - I highly recommend him! Now for the most important part: money.. My fear of going to the dentist is less about the pain and more about the financial burden that can accompany the work. I have Insurance through my employer and my previous dentist quoted my share of the expenses in the thousands for what I needed... after my initial exam with Dr. Coleman and discussing what exactly I would need to have done, my share for everything amounted to just about $100. I was thrilled and relieved to say the least, and Dr. Coleman & staff did a tremendous job. My wife and I are both so grateful to have found such an amazing Dental Experience close to home and are counting down to our next visit in six months! read more
