What a GEM!! This bakery is one of of the best I've ever visited!! The staff was friendly and engaging... Hadassah was particularly a stand out. The baked goods were very fresh.. I especially enjoyed the variety of whoopie pies!! Chocolate with peanut butter filling was my favorite, but there were pumpkin, red velvet, oatmeal and even gluten free!! The bakery was clean and neat and had lots of other items in the gift shop. Don't miss it. I have told everyone in the area about it since I was there... Wish I lived closer! read more

This is a "sweet" shop next to Centerville Diner 2, actually across the hall in the same building. It has a few cafe style tables and serves coffee, and pastries. There are full size cakes and pies, cookies, and other treats. I purchased a few items. The apricot scone had nice pieces of apricot throughout. The spice cake had a very sweet icing. I wasn't fond of the molasses cookies. They were sticky and did not have that distinct molasses flavor I expected. First time reviewing, probably 50th time eating one of their baked goods. The Bake Shoppe has a ton of items I could review (PA Dutch shoo fly pie - when they have it, snag it!), but I am going to take a minute and RAVE about their cakes (and I don't even really like cake). Their buttercream frosting is divine... perfect balance of sweetness... and they are consistently on point with the bake of their cakes - I have never had a dry slice and they have been my family's "go to" for the past 10... 15... maybe 20 years?!?! Truly - at any size (8", 1/4 sheet, 1/2 sheet, tiered), all have been baked and iced to perfection. After all of these years though, I am finally leaving a review because I have always thought that the decoration was... lack luster would be the best way to put it. Just not overly inspiring, but hey, at the end of the day - you are eating it right? So taste is what matters. However, I recently purchased a cake for my sister's 30th and shared a photo of what I had in mind. Even though the picture provided was a tiered cake with wooden flower decorations, they captured the look, feel and colors perfectly. It was a BEAUTIFUL cake. (and as soon as I track down a photo from that day, I will share it). Their cake designers are very good... all these years, I just had to give them an idea of what I was looking for. TIP: All their cakes are good, but the Cloud 9 is by far my favorite. The little bit of tartness from that raspberry filling is perfection. read more

I love having a bake shop in Mount Joy. The Bake Shoppe is bright and spacious and full of delicious items to tempt you. Whenever I go in there I have a difficult time not buying out the entire store. One of my favorites is their white dinner rolls. Trust me--you will thank me later. You can order online and if you're in a rush like me, you can stop by and see what cakes they have available. They would be happy to personalize it for you. They even have packaged homemade cookies ready to go. Perfect as a gift or traveling or whatever because let's face it: who needs an excuse for cookies? I don't. Highly recommended. read more

Howe The Bake Shoppe (TBS) is the sister store of The Country Table restaurant, located right next door. Here at TBS they serve up scratch-made baked goods that are made to order or just walk-in and see what's available that day. I was looking to pick-up some dessert to go along with dinner I was cooking, and what better place than a local bakery? Truth be told this wasn't my first option, as that turned out to be closed, but after a recommendation from my girl I was over here right quick. Shoo-Fly Pie ($12) is a Pennsylvania Dutch specialty―and while I would've probably preferred a fruit pie―but when in Rome... So I picked one up and I was not sorry. A Shoo-Fly Pie (aka molasses crumb cake) is a thick hearty molasses filling in a pie crust and topped with a crumbly cake-like topping. If you don't like molasses then you will most likely not like this, but fortunately I love it. Thick, hearty and earthy this was the perfect vehicle for some Turkey Hill Double Dunker® ice cream. While I perused I couldn't help eyeballing their thick and gooey-looking Sticky Buns ($5.95/6). I ate one cold when I got home and it was just ok. The next day I nuked one and it was 10× better as it needs heat to activate all that caramel. The dough wasn't as yeasty as I would've liked, but still pretty damn good. I would love to try these fresh from the oven, tho... One of TBS's specialties is their cakes, so next time I'm in town I'd like to give theirs a go. But, in the meantime, this is a pretty great bakery that I could definitely see myself frequenting if I lived in town. Highly recommended. read more

We were in mount joy for the day and my wife was looking for something to satisfy her sweet tooth, well let's just say this place did not disappoint, she got their wet bottom shoo fly pie and I got 3 of their Whoopie pies (red velvet, chocolate w/white icing, chocolate w/pb icing) my god were they enormous and they were moist as could be, the pie was delicious and was exactly what we expected for being in Lancaster county and the heart of PA Dutch country, the prices are great as well, 12.99 for an entire pie and 5.96 for 3 whoopie pies was a great deal, we will be back to try some of their other sweet treats!!! read more
