There's a book I recommend for insight: Alcoholism and Addiction Cure. The book was written by the founders and lays the foundations of the program. You're treated like an adult--free to use your phone, stay in touch, and even order food if the meals don't suit you (though they're surprisingly decent). I left early due to insurance costs, but I regret doing so. This place is worth the investment in yourself.

The intake was handled by a very well meaning information, but despite comments that they could accommodate people with a wide range of concerns, it has become clear with our conversations with them that income and liability are their only concerns. Delay after delay was given to us as a need to "consult with the team" with no details about what might be the concerns or what we could do to assuage those concerns. I would highly recommend talking to a trained therapist or mental health professional before considering this facility as a legitimate way to get help. Based on our experience this feels like a place that will only take on clients that are high net worth and zero risk.

First NONE of the photos on here are of Oceanside Malibu except for the last one; the dark dingy…read morelooking one. How this place is still in business is beyond me. This place is nothing more than a trap house staffed by individuals that look like they're still in their active meth addiction. Either that or they don't offer their staff dental health benefits because half of them are missing teeth, and look like they just arrived from the nearest homeless shelter. It's dingy, the common areas are carpeted, it's dark, and filthy. Their idea of a 'luxury' private room with king size bed was adjoining two queen size beds together. And they couldn't even do that properly as there was nothing keeping them attached. Therefore you can fall right down the middle. Pathetic. One staff member not only used expletives like a pirate but also managed to call me a Masshole (cause I'm from Massachusetts), only to then give me tips on how to tell good meth from bad meth! Having driven 6 hours to this dump I thought it best to spend the night since it was already dark outside. But first thing in the morning bright and early I was out of there. Though they didn't make it easy. They begged me to please stay even offering to walk my dogs (I brought with me) on my behalf and even take them to the dog park multiple times a day. There I was thinking to myself, 'I don't trust you with MY well-being much less my dogs well-being'! And so I left and hightailed it back to my home. I didn't think a place like this could exist in Malibu, but what this taught me is that even in Malibu one has to do their due diligence in researching a facility. I have since then heard from other individuals that this is a 'body broker' type of place. If you don't know what a 'body broker' is, Google it. Essentially it's when they pay (in one form or another) for someone to get high/use so they can bring them in and charge their health insurance. Alternatively it can also manifest as specifically seeking those in active addiction (regardless of their wanting to get sober or not) and paying/convincing them (one way or another) to come in; and as you may have already guessed: charge their health insurance. It is because of places like Oceanside Malibu that the recovery industry needs to be much more stringently regulated. A place like this dump should not be legally allowed to exist.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is not a…read morerecovery center--it is a predatory operation hiding behind a facade of luxury and false promises. If you are considering this place for yourself or, worse, a loved one, please, for their safety and well-being: do not send them here. A Luxury Illusion That Disappears on Arrival In my experience, the photos are pure marketing fiction. What's advertised as a serene, high-end recovery center felt more like a low-grade mental institution the moment I arrived. The disconnect between what they sell you and what you get is staggering--and intentional. Health Hazards and Mold Cover-Ups During my stay, there was a serious mold issue that, in my experience, made multiple clients ill. Instead of hiring professionals to remediate it, they literally painted over the mold, sealing in toxins and making it worse. That's not a mistake--that's, in my opinion, a conscious decision to put profit over human safety. Basic Safety Ignored In my room, there wasn't even a smoke detector. This is Malibu--a region devastated by wildfires--and they house vulnerable clients without basic fire safety. In my experience, that level of negligence is horrifying. Unqualified Staff and Power Trips In my experience, the majority of their "therapists" are not fully licensed but associates. The resident assistants were, in my opinion, unqualified and disturbingly eager to exert control over clients rather than provide actual care. This is not a therapeutic environment; it's a toxic one. Gaslighting as Policy Raise a concern, and, in my experience, you are immediately gaslit and dismissed. The ultimate red flag? When I asked to speak with the owners because management was incapable, I was told communication is only allowed "through counsel." What kind of "healing center" refuses to let owners speak to clients except via lawyers? In my opinion, that says everything. Food Unfit for Clients The food was so bad that, in my experience, most clients resorted to DoorDash just to eat. For a facility charging astronomical fees, this was beyond neglect--it was insulting. Predatory Admissions and Broken Promises In my experience, the admissions director Bridget will say absolutely anything to get your money. The moment you arrive and they have it, the promises evaporate, and you see the truth: this place values profit over people and preys on families in crisis. A Plea to Families If you are reading this while considering this facility for someone you love, please listen: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu does not heal--it harms. It does not support--it exploits. There are real recovery centers that value human life over their balance sheet. This is not one of them. Final Verdict: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is a predatory fraud that endangers the very people it claims to help. For the sake of your own life or the life of someone you care about, run--not walk--away from this place.

I am writing this as the partner of someone who attended The Pointe Malibu, and I can honestly say…read morethat, in my experience, it was the worst decision we have ever made. When he left for treatment, I was hopeful. I believed their polished promises and glossy marketing. I thought I was sending the person I love to a place that would help him heal. What I got back was someone far sicker, both physically and emotionally, than when he left. In my experience, this facility is a danger to anyone who steps inside. My partner came home with ongoing health problems that he never had before. The severe mold issue inside the houses made him ill, along with several other clients, and instead of fixing the problem, they painted over it. That wasn't just negligence; it was, in my opinion, a reckless disregard for human safety. Months later, he is still suffering from the effects of that exposure, fighting to recover his health because of their shortcuts and indifference. What breaks me most is that this place didn't just damage his body; it damaged his spirit. He left more broken than he went in. In my experience, the environment at The Pointe Malibu is toxic, characterized by unqualified staff, gaslighting when clients speak up, and a culture that prioritizes control and profit over genuine care. When my partner asked to speak to the owners because management was failing to address critical concerns, he was told that all communication had to go "through counsel." That, to me, is the clearest sign of what this place really is, a business built on fear and legal shields, not a sanctuary for recovery. The neglect runs deep. Even the basics weren't met; his room didn't even have a smoke detector, in Malibu of all places, where wildfires are a real and constant threat. The food was so bad that most clients resorted to DoorDash to eat something tolerable. Everything about his experience screamed cost-cutting and exploitation at the expense of people in their most vulnerable state. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu did not heal my partner; it harmed him. It left lasting physical and emotional scars that we are still dealing with every day. If you are reading this and considering this facility for someone you love, please, I am begging you, don't make the same mistake we did. Find a center that values human life and real recovery. This place, in my opinion, is a predatory operation masquerading as care, and sending someone you love there could destroy more than you realize.
