I was craving breakfast so I opted for a cacio e Pepe breakfast bowl without bacon. The dish came with 4 scrambled eggs, pecorino romano, cheddar, black pepper, sourdough, and butter. I'm very disappointed. I'm here for the first time since Rise and European Cafe combined. I used to go to European Cafe semi-regularly because I've traveled through Europe a lot and they did the best traditional macchiato. I used to go for a macchiato and a croissant. I walked into The European today expecting to be able to get my usual. I tried to order a macchiato and the girl said, "you mean a caramel latte?" I said, "No, I just want a traditional macchiato." She said, "We don't make those here." I said, "You don't make macchiatos anymore?" She said, "We can only make what is on the menu." I said, "No one here knows how to make a macchiato?" She repeated that they could only make what is on the menu. I ordered a cortado, which is similar but not the same. She also didn't offer to warm my croissant like they used to. My last complaint is that I was 1 visit away from getting $2 off at European Cafe and apparently my points don't transfer over and are lost. I'm not sure this will be a regular spot anymore. As soon as you walk in, you see trendy meets classic design and I loved it. Hanging plants, flowers on the tables, etc. A great place to come alone or with a large group. We realized the menu is seasonal, so even though I looked at the menu the night before, I had to look again. I settled on a standard waffle with whipped, salted honey butter, a side of scrambled eggs and a side of sausage. My friend got the biscuits and gravy and coffee. We both LOVED our food and I ate it so fast, no pictures. You order at the front counter, but served your food and drinks by the servers. Our service was great, no complaints. The place inside is super cute and chic, they offer you free water when you sit so that was nice. I ordered to go so I can't say anything about the service but the people in the front were ok, but I will be taking off a star because when she handed me an "unopened" drink there was a hair inside which was gross, she just brushed it off and gave me another one. The prices is another thing it is on the pricier side BUT the food is fresh, it's not overly processed and it says it's locally sourced so that explains the price. Fingerling potatoes cooked perfectly with Cheddar, house sausage and a bell pepper creme sauce topped with 2 over easy eggs - filling and tasty! Family also tried the Croque Madame sandwich and Eggs Benedict with Ham. Both dishes were excellent, especially their sourdough toasted bread! The side salad had a heavier lemon and mustard seed flavor, but was a nice combo with the sandwich topped with a Sunny egg. The Benedict was rich with flavors and poached eggs prepared perfectly. I tried to order a Biscuits and Gravy side but they had run out for the day. A good reason to come back and try again when in Springfield MO. My personal pet peeve - I asked for a bowl without an egg, but was still charged a full price. I know if I asked for an extra egg, they would charge $$ extra for it. Nicely sparse, not too fancy, but clean and attractive. The food: incredible selections, everything is prepared fresh from quality ingredients. Interesting choices available, some dishes I've never had in all my travels, including shakshuka, which I ordered and was delicious. The most noteworthy part was the perfectly poached eggs!!! This was our first time here, and boy I am glad we came. When you walk in, you order at the counter, then you sit and wait for your food/drinks. It was a fairly quick ordering process. My husband and I both got the breakfast sandwich 4 and split the pancakes & chocolate. I also ordered a mocha cinnamon latte with almond milk. The latte was good, but I didn't get any of the cinnamon flavor. I still liked it, since you can tell it is high quality espresso. We got our drinks pretty quick, and our food was less than 10 minutes later. The breakfast sandwich doesn't come with any sides, which I think is perfect because it allows you to split something else with someone. The breakfast sandwich is actually fairly large, and you get to pick your choice of brioche or wheat. We both picked brioche. My husband asked for sriracha which they didn't have, but they do have their own house made green hot sauce was pretty good, sweet & spicy. Now for the star of the show: those pancakes! These were basically s'more pancakes with honey sea salt marshmallows, candied pecans, and a beautiful, rich chocolate sauce underneath. I also love this portion size because it was easily splitable. Lots of places have massive dinner plate-sized pancakes and give you 2-3 of them, but this is a manageable portion. This meal was absolutely perfect to split. My husband and I both have things we want to try the next time we come here, including the breakfast bowl and the baklava waffles. You should definitely come check this place out. I like the idea of this place, while I find it ultimately overpriced and underwhelming. My wife, our toddler, and I ate outside for a meal that cost us ~$45(ish) in total, and frankly we didn't leave very satiated (because their portions are strictly rationed), nor was our food as good tasting as one would expect for such a price. Further, the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. It's definitely one of those Gen Z hipster joints that treats you like they'd prefer you hadn't come in at all. I was in line to order and my husband was sitting at a table and one of your employee came and told him to get off the table because another couple who had already ordered wanted to sit where he was. Your employee tried to say that you guys were running out of tables as though we couldn't see that there were plenty of empty tables in the back, but those people just wanted to sit where we were so we were made to move (?) ‍ We were paying customers too, It's not like we were just loitering in the place. That's fine. The food is ok but way overpriced especially given the fact that it is provided with fast food type of service. I was also told to wait outside for 30 mins when starting to place an order so I stepped aside, noticed tables opening so I ordered 30 seconds later without an issue lol. This place made Mother's Day so special. quick and friendly service, great atmosphere, local ingredients, and really impressed my wife and I who are chefs. Our daughters fell in love as well. from the bacon to the eggs, the perfectly toasted hazelnuts in the rice pudding.
