Tucked away in the mountains in the south Kona, we were lucky to stumbled upon this unique place. We toured one of its neighbor coffee farms only a few days before we went here so we didn't need to tour another farms. If you end up being in the same situation then go here just to sip some delicious coffee and tea samples and pick up some gifts/souvenirs but most of all, walk around the property to enjoy its stunning environment or just sit in one of the lawn chairs to read a book or quietly meditate. That's exactly what we did. The workers we interacted with were there to give you hospitality. They never force you to buy anything. We hadn't had coffee just yet as we went here mid to late morning so after sampling some coffees and teas we were going to buy some cups of coffee to truly drink a full cup but they didn't even let us; they gave us free of everything (from some complimentary cookies to nuts to munch. What a generous gesture that was!!) After that, we sat in the lawn chairs and spent at least an hour in the spacious yard that overlooks the ocean for some journaling and meditation. With the view and the nature that surrounded us, we were truly healed from inside out. We got to meet and pet all sorts of farm animals. While walking around, one of the female workers (who greeted us upon arrival) came and educate us on all kinds of tropical plants, trees and flowers. She was so personable to us where she truly wanted to get to know us. The hospitality is top-notch at this place. On top of the farm tour, tea ceremonies and coffee tastings they do, they also offer yoga (I think that's what she said), and (possibly) massages. This place is so much more than a typical coffee/tea farm. But most of all, its stunning 80-acre property is in itself a place for people to rejuvenate/recharge/meditate so they'll be refreshed in mind and spirit as they walk away from it. This is like everyone's dream place to work and live. You got to put this place on your "must visit" list while you are in Kona.

Both were excellent and even though there is more menu to try, I feel like we'd fall back upon the drinks we really enjoyed from this visit. We enjoyed these drinks so much, a request was made to return on our last day but once we realized this would've been a 50 min detour(one way) just for coffee , we postponed this until the next time we're on the island.

It was quite possibly the best latte I've ever had." We splurged for a 7 ounce small bag of Kona SL34 beans for $38 to take home. Believe us, it was well worth it! There is a small seating area under an awning. Most folks seemed to be taking their coffee to go. Also, there's a really cute shop right next to it, full of high quality home decorations, kitchen items, souvenirs, and snacks. Parking is in a nearby shared lot. Be sure to check it out!

Ever been to a Kona coffee plantation in a cloud forest? Well, here's your chance. This is a…read moresurreal experience as you're literally in the clouds up here at around 3,000-plus feet above the Pacific. It's misty, full of foliage, and just ethereal it seems. Makes you wonder aloud: they really do make coffee up here? Yes, and it's damn good! There is no official designated parking area for this tucked away coffee plantation that sits right off the windy mountain road. So we just parked on the side of the road where everyone else did. Everything is so organized here, and when you walk in, the staff greets you with a smile. It really feels like you're about to enter an amusement park. There's a nice little merch shop right at the entrance. Out in front, they offer free coffee tastings of their light, medium, and dark roasts. Took a swig of their light stuff and wow...super smooth, with very low acidity. Right off the bat you can tell this is high-quality coffee. They offer a free 15-minute tour of their small coffee processing area. Yes, you should do it. Ann was our tour guide for the afternoon and she gave us a brief, but thorough presentation of the history of the coffee plant on the island - where it came from, how it got here up in the clouds, and how they process it, step by step. I learned through her presentation that they handpick their beans here, most of which are as few as 100 yards away from the road. This really isn't a big plantation, so they yield and process small batches. And all those batches end up right in the merch shop. The prices are expensive, but worth it. There is also a self-guided tour that costs $10 per group. You fill out a waiver first, and then head down the path out back that leads you in this really cool, but short, trail that winds down to this large patio overlooking the coffee trees. Also on the trail over to the side, you can see these large lava tubes. A real treat. So yeah, I'd recommend coming to this spot FIRST if you plan on visiting a coffee plantation here on the Big Island. Have fun!

She engaged with a multi-national (and multi-generational, and multi-linguistic) group with energy and humor and we had a blast listening to her. I learned quite a bit! I admit that sampling hot coffee on a 90-degree day under direct sun was perhaps not ideal, but I'd never had a chance to try peaberry coffee and I'm glad I did. The tours run every half hour and take about 45 minutes or so. They travel down, and then up, a modest incline. Since the farm is on the west of the island, tours later in the day will experience more direct sun. It was very hot and very humid, but there are shady stops in the first part of the tour. Sunscreen, a hat, breathable clothing, and plenty of water will see you through it. I might consider going back once they've repaired the bridge washed out by the March 2026 floods. The coffee itself is pricey, as you might expect, but it's the real deal.

An Amazing Kona Coffee Experience…read more Greenwell Farms was one of the highlights of our Big Island trip! This is a coffee farm and tour experience, so just to clarify, they do not serve food here. The experience is focused on learning about how Kona coffee is grown and processed, touring the farm, and sampling their coffees. Our tour was about an hour, and we had such an amazing time. Our guide was a woman whose name I believe was Leilani (possibly Lenny or Lee), and she was absolutely adorable -- especially walking around in her cowboy boots! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who visits. Because of a major storm in May, the farm had suffered significant damage, including losing a bridge, so we received a modified tour. Even with the changes, we learned so much about the coffee-growing and production process, and it was fascinating to see everything firsthand. Hearing about the damage they experienced also gave us an even greater appreciation for the farm and what they've been working through. The tour is outdoors and seems appropriate for a wide range of ages. We happened to have a cloudy morning, so the weather was perfect for walking around the farm without getting too hot. Parking was easy and available right on site. A little tip: Wear comfortable sneakers and make sure you have good balance. There are some areas of the farm with gentle inclines and declines, so it's not completely flat. Since the bridge was out, there was also less walking than there normally would be. And of course, the coffee sampling was such a fun part of the experience! If you're visiting the Big Island and want to learn more about authentic Kona coffee rather than just buying a bag at a store, I highly recommend putting Greenwell Farms on your itinerary. We're so glad we went. It was educational, relaxed, beautiful, and genuinely fun -- and our guide made it that much more memorable.
