I had a Mac latte and husband got a cold brew and it was so good! My kids also had some pastries and popsicles which was a hit too!

We wanted to try out this place last year, but they closed early, so we missed it. This year (2026), we were able to come while they were open. I ordered a regular oat milk latte, extra hot (16 oz), for about $7.00. The flavor was great, but I wish the barista would have gotten the order right (extra hot). When I received it, it was just hot, but it was still good. Over all, the service was good. There's plenty of seating inside and limited outside seating. A cool breeze flows through the store because they keep the doors wide open, so it's perfect. They have sandwiches and other sweet treats, so check the menu. 100% recommend! read more

Enjoyed the coffee samples! They have a great menu with lots of different options. We went for their specialty drinks the Mac nut cold brew and the ube vanilla bean. Absolutely loved both. We also split a bacon Gouda sandwich and the reviews I read were right, it was definitely better than Starbucks. Had to pay to park, 4.81 for 15 mins, if you can walk definitely do so! read more

While the food was fine, the coffee was undrinkable. It seemed over extracted meaning too little coffee was used for the amount of water which extracts a lot of bitterness. Service was poor. Two of the coffee urns ran out (dark and medium roast) and they seemed annoyed to have to refill one of them. 20 minutes later they still hadn't refilled the other. Espresso machine wasn't working either. Not what I expected from a coffee shop. Won't return. read more

My honey and I spent 3 days in Kailua before relocating upcountry on vacation, and went to ka'u coffee mill every single morning. Right at the northern end of the Kona downtown boardwalk area, this indoor-outdoor cafe boasts a huge variety of home-grown and packaged coffees and teas. The storefront is laidback and the baristas, very kind and eager to make recommendations. They also use housemade syrups in their coffee drinks, utilizing locally grown ingredients such as hamakua macadamia nuts and coconut. HUGE win for me, and well-worth the price tag. Additionally, they provided a nice variety of coffee samples! We were happy to try a couple of the 10 carafes they had out to select which would be best for omiyage for the family back home. read more

We needed some caffeine and we happen to park right next to this great forge spot. Kaekoa was super helpful in making me a customized drink with their own house made brown sugar syrup. Popped into this local coffee shop on a leisurely walk in Kailua-Kona :) The shop is fairly spacious with a couple of tables to sit at, and they have free wifi. Enjoyed how they offered a selection of different Kona coffee to try and a variety of honey, macadamia nuts, cookies, & teas as gifts/souvenirs. While their macadamia coffee had the best aroma, their Italian espresso roast had to be my favorite, flavor-wise. read more

A great spot with samples for coffee and tons of merchandise to peruse (local macadamia nuts, coffee, dry mixes, teas, and more). I loved being able to sample coffee prior to purchasing. They have malasadas and other baked goods if you're looking for food to nosh on. There is a counter to order at and a clear menu board that is posted above the register to offer visitors options to decide from (both coffee and non-coffee). The place does look a little touristy with all the nuts and salt they got for sale which always makes me wary but I will say our cold brew was top notch. Loved this local coffee shop. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable about the different coffees and products, you could sample the fresh brewed coffee, as well as Hamakua macadamia nuts. The actual coffee farm is on, I believe, the Northern part of the Big Island, so the coffee is absolutely fresh, and it's a pretty extensive mill. I wish we could have toured it, but we didn't have a car. I love that the shop also makes smoothies, shakes, has pastries and sandwiches, and iced tea, so there's something for everyone, and for every mood. The shop was popping with locals and tourists alike. We went twice while visiting Kona. The first day, my mom had a smoothie, and I, a chocolate shake with a shot of espresso. We both loved our drinks. The next day, we had just cups of self-serve, fresh brewed coffee. Both days, we really enjoyed our visit. I ended up buying a bag of whole beans and a storage canister. Grabbed a doughnut and a coffee here this morning. The staff were super friendly and the store was very clean. They have the coffee out with testers which was nice. The baked goods were really good, I got the sugar coated ube doughnut but everything looked delicious. I got a matcha latte with coconut milk and it was perfect. The perfect amount of coconut milk mixed in with the perfect amount of sweetness. 12/10 should stop by and grab a doughnut for a sunrise swim! read more

One of my Big Island "must-do" activities was a coffee farm tour. Ka'u offers one for free, twice daily on weekdays. The tour was short, but informative. You'll learn that Ka'u prepares unwashed coffee beans, which have a different flavor profile. The vast majority of coffee that we drink is washed. My skeptical teenage nephew reported that the tour was more fun than he expected. (When asked about his expectations, he said "lots of walking around and looking at trees."). You will look at some coffee trees, but not a lot of walking is involved. Be warned that coffee beans are quite pricey here. We paid about $40 for a one pound bag, which was slightly above the median price for what is available if you're looking to bring home a souvenir. Most of the coffees available by the bag are brewed and available for unlimited sampling. I appreciated the tour and the ability to try different types of coffee before committing to the purchase. The shop has lots of other gift options from tee shirts to macadamia nuts to coffee accessories. I'm sure this is a rather touristy activity but we enjoyed it and were happy to support the business by bringing some of the island home with us. read more

Ka'u Coffee Mill Cafe is very conveniently located right next to the Courtyard Marriott Kam. It's like a 3 minute walk from their pool, or literally right across the street from the ABC Store that's attached to the hotel. They have these two bar-height tables outside their shop - perfect for drinking your coffee and watching the traffic and people go by. The first time we went, we got the blended drinks - my husband got the mocha and I got a plain with Mac nut syrup per the girl's suggestion. The drinks came out and I really like the mocha as well and took a huge sip of my husband's drink before I started on my own hahaha. They were delicious. There is a huge coffee bean selection inside and they also have other types of souvenirs like shirts and some honey I think? But the people working there are very nice. The second time we went, I walked from the Courtyard's pool area and took my drinks back to the beach with me. I got stopped twice while holding my two blended drinks and walking by with people asking, "That looks so good, where'd you get that?" I happily pointed them to Ka'u. it was the only place that we returned to while on our vacation - it was that yummy! read more
