Super cute cafe with chairs out in front where you can rest and sip on your coffee. The coffee ice cubes were a huge plus. I got an iced latte with macadamia nut syrup. It came with only 3 ice cubes and was on the sweeter side.

This is a cute little cafe and gift shop on Ali'i Drive in Kailua Town. They have indoor and outdoor seating too. Inside they have lots of locally made gifts, including many with the cafe logo. Prices are reasonable. The barista was super friendly. This is an alternative dairy cafe, no actual milk products are used including in the cheeses. A favorite highlight was the use of coffee ice cubs in the ice coffee; delicious and refreshing!

Super cute coffee and gift shop. I tried their iced matcha latte with oat milk. Matcha was a little muddy and I mostly tasted the oat milk. The color was a little too light green in my opinion. Maybe skip the matcha and try their coffee or ice cream! The person who took my order was super nice too!

    Tropical Thunder

Tried their acai bowl. Asked for recommendation from the person at the counter. Got the Tropical Thunder which she recommended. It had granola and mixed tropical fruits. While it had pineapple which is definitely tropical, it also had raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It was alright. I did not think it was special. They serve coffee, frozen drinks, ice cream, and pastries. They have some outdoor seating as well. Service was alright.

The place was walking distance, about 7 minutes away. Pretty walk for 9am. Lots of people out walking and grabbing coffee. The cappuccino was average, oatmilk, no art on top, pretty expensive for what it was. Nothing special. The place was cute, fun mugs to purchase and extraordinary coffee beans. Very pricey beans so they must be good. The server was kind and good at her job. The smoothie was way better than the coffee.

Great coffee, dole whip and ice cream! They had pumpkin spice in July! And their ice cubes are made of coffee!

I ordered an iced latte with 1 pump Mac nut and 1 pump vanilla! Omgosh! Amazing!!!!! I just love Kona coffee so much! Such a cutie little shop with a tiki hut vibe. The barista was nice! At first I couldn't decide on what to get and he was patient with me. So kind! There's inside and outside seating. I prefer sipping my coffee outside because of the breeze and view!

My son recommended this shop from a previous visit and so glad we stopped in. Right on Ali'i drive in a great location surrounded by shops and other restaurants, Bikini Bottoms offers some great food to start your day. Great breakfast sandwiches, açaí bowls and lattes. Staff were super friendly which really did seem to be a consistent vibe in Kona.

Cute spot in downtown Kona. I had the passionfruit ice-cream sooo delicious. I didn't like that the owner doesn't allow tastings, but otherwise i would recommend if you're craving ice-cream on the big island.

The chocolate Acai bowl with raspberries, bananas, granola etc.

I decided to try an Acai bowl. There were two to choose from and she recommended the one with chocolate. It was very good. I sat on their patio and did some people watching. The service was good and nice place to relax eating indoors and outside. It's a casual coffee shop with different items to eat.

    Lava Açaí Bowl

Walked around Ali'i drive and came across this place. The inside and outside of the shop was super cute and there was seating. Ordered the Lava acai bowl and was very disappointed. For $18 it was not worth it, and the acai base and sesame butter was just alright. I feel there's way better acai bowls for cheaper too. Staff was friendly but probably wouldn't come back for an açaí bowl.

mauna kea and lava acai bowl

Best coffee I've found on the island. Strong, chocolaty - it's what I expect when I think of Kona coffee, but can still be hard to find.

I decided to stop halfway through my Turkey Waffle Sandwich (which was delicious and will definitely finish off when I have room) to help my kid finish her smoothie bowl since it was melting. The granola was so good and smoothie was yum. After drinking the Refresher, I took the tons of fruit in the drink and piled it on top of the smoothie bowl. Definitely a hack I'm gonna have to repeat. So much fresh fruit in the refresher! I had the Kona Coffee Shake. It's like a sweet mocha latte. Will definitely finish my turkey waffle sandwich later! My kids loved the 3 cheese flatbread. Hubby said Turkey BLT was good. Will be eating the monkey bread and ube cheese rolls later for dessert.

We arrived literally 3 minutes after they opened on a Wednesday and there was already a decent-sized line to order. By the time we left later on, the parking lot was full. Definitely worth it though! Between the 4 of us we tried the breakfast croissant, salmon open toast, arise bowl, chocolate chiffon cake, and hot and iced mac nut lattes. We all loved what we ordered. I personally had the breakfast croissant and it was easily one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. It was so delicious! I also sampled the chocolate chiffon cake and it was really delightful. If I'm ever back on the Big Island, I guarantee that I will be making a stop at Arise for breakfast!

Their customer service reply really made up for the previous experience with their staff and they ensured me they would address the issue with their team. :) Old review: I visited the Gypsea Gelato in Kona today and was extremely disappointed with the service. I ordered a single scoop child's cone and was told "We only have our Ube waffle cones, we are out of the rest... but don't worry they don't really taste like ube". I said ok, that should be fine since my daughter wants a cone. When I get to the register, after they had already filled her cone, I was told the price was $8.50 for the child's size ice cream and charged an additional $3 for their "specialty cone". Prior to choosing the cone, I was not told anything about it costing $3 additional dollars. Nor that a kids size scoop for that cone would be $8.50 when it should usually be $4.99. So I paid $11.50 for a child's ice cream. When I brought my concern up to the 3 teenagers working there, they all made me feel as though I was in the wrong for not knowing my child's cone would be $11.50. One of the staff checked to see if there was a price on the front of the sample cone thinking she could rub that in my face but there was no price shared. So, I had literally no way of knowing how much I would end up paying until it was too late and no apology or kindness was shown whatsoever. Another staff member said "we aren't in charge of what they give us"... and to that I say, that doesn't absolve you from sharing the price of this speciality option -which again, was the only cone option offered. Had I known I would be paying $11.50 for a child's cone, we would have happily ordered the $4.99 cup. I'd appreciate if the manager would get in touch with me -not so much for the outrageous cost but more for the fact that their staff provided such poor service in not sharing the price, and not trying to kindly resolve the issue.
