Quick easy coffee and acai bowls in Kona! I come here for coffee or acai bowls when I don't feel like venturing too far from my hotel. I've gotten the Kona Wave Latte and Lava Mocha a few times. I like my coffee hot, but they have some good looking frappe drinks. I've also gotten the Kona Wave acai bowl several times and it's pretty good! I do wish they had bee pollen here, as that's an addition I like at other places I go to. Service is always pretty quick. It's a small place where you order and there are a few places to sit outside. I always get my coffee and go sit at the beach or walk around town.

Large acai bowls and shaved ice! Cute seating facing a parking lot but also with ocean views. I built my own shave ice (kids' size, half and half fresh fruit which was pineapple and strawberry, and picked 3 flavors though they were out of Ube.) I liked the mochi and popping boba. It was delicious and tasted fresh and not overly sweet! My friend enjoyed her acai bowl which she took some to-go because it was so large. Service was friendly and warm.

I had a really good açaí bowl from here when I was in Kona last month. It's a kiosk across the street from the Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel where I was staying, so it was quite convenient. The staff was friendly and I had the Monkey Bowl that I ordered in no time. The regular size Monkey Bowl (16 oz., $13.25) was açaí topped with granola, bananas, almonds, honey, and peanut butter. I thought it tasted great, although it was a bit pricey for the size, but I'll chalk it up to inflation or tourist pricing. If you want a large, 24 oz., that went for $15.25. Happy eating!

Food 5/5; Best Açaí bowl you will find in Kona Big Island!!! Search no further, these were super fresh and granola was really crunchy. I wish I ate this everyday tbh. Not too sweet, tastes organic and super fresh. Well balanced. Service 5/5: very fast and friendly staff. Ambiance 5/5: lil cute outdoor seating area. I highly recommend!

I was craving acai bowls and found this cafe on Yelp. I got the acai bowls with papaya and strawberries with coconut flakes on top. It was so delicious and hit the spot. It was a bit pricy since the bowls were $14 for a regular size but it was a lot and very filling. The only thing is that parking in the lot is pretty expensive. You'd have to find park on the street a few blocks away to avoid paying $$ for parking

Kona Wave Cafe - Kailua-Kona Kona Wave Cafe is in a great spot right across from the beach in Kailua-Kona. It's a small, casual setup with only a few outdoor tables, so it works more as a grab-and-go place, perfect if you want to take your food and enjoy it by the ocean. I ordered a custom Acai bowl with banana, strawberry, peanut butter, granola, and chia seeds. The Acai itself was bomb -- fresh, cold, and full of flavor. The strawberries were sweet, the peanut butter was creamy and rich, and the granola gave it a nice crunch. Overall, the bowl looked beautiful and tasted refreshing. A couple of things could make it even better: the banana portion was tiny (barely five tiny slices), and the chia seeds were just raw on top instead of soaked, which made them a bit odd to eat. A soaked chia layer would have added so much more texture and balance. Service was the one downside. When I went to pay, I hit "no tip" on the card reader because I planned to leave cash in the tip jar, but the lady at the counter made disapproving sounds. It felt awkward and unnecessary, and it left me with a less-than-welcoming impression. Overall, Kona Wave Cafe has great potential. The Acai base was fantastic, and the location is unbeatable. With a little more generosity on toppings and a friendlier customer service experience, this could easily be a five-star spot in Kailua-Kona.

Went here for the first with my partner and we got the lychee dream without the fresh pineapple since I'm allergic to pineapples. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. Service was fast and very friendly! The vibe of just enjoying either shaved ice or an Acai bowl by the waters is a great start to day or evening :)

The only purpose of this review is to tell you to go with the açaí bowl, and not the shave ice. I went twice and tried each, and while the shave ice was good, it wasn't spectacular or worth the price. The açaí bowl on the other hand was worth every penny. Nice toppings and generous portions!

Great coffee. Strong! Get the Kona Wave Latte with oat milk. Delicious and slightly sweet. Also have acai bowls which are good but idk the acai lacks sugar or flavors, but the toppings are bomb. Can't go wrong here with shaved ice and they start selling shaved ice at 1030. Friendly service. Nice patio with some seating. Probably on fits about 8 people total. Right across the pier so just walk around and enjoy the ocean views.

Better than before. This time around I just had them add everything and it is fantastic. The store is still a nice Mom & Pop shop, so that's extra points because the service is very personal as it is family owned. If you're on a cruise, your body will appreciate this break for fresh healthy fruit. read more

Talk about delicious! If I could give the Kona Wave Café 10 stars, I would! The açai bowl was delicious and we chose the large and split it between my husband and I. It was plenty for us. We sat outside and just listened to the birds and watch the traffic and people walking by and it was the perfect way to start the day. We will be back and we highly recommend coming here. read more

I was dying to get an açaí bowl on my recent trip to Hawaii. Lucky for me, we happened upon Kona Wave Cafe - a cute little shop that offered both açaí bowls and shaved ice! The wait wasn't long and the service was very friendly. The selection was more limited than other shaved ice stores we had seen in downtown Kona, but what we did order was delicious! I got my açaí bowl. I ordered the Kona Wave Bowl with açaí blend, strawberries, bananas, and blueberries topped with honey and granola. It was super fresh and super tasty! Exactly what I wanted. Several of my friends ordered shaved ice cream- the lychee dream and coconut island. Both were yummy, but my favorite was the lychee dream which came with mochi and popping boba! There isn't a lot of seating, but we made it work. Just know, if you have a big party, you'd be better off grabbing and going (which we saw a lot of people do). Kona Wave Cafe was great! I would definitely go back. Note: Bathrooms are available near by, but you must ask an employee for the key! read more

Came here specifically for the açaí bowl and unfortunately, it was not great. First off, parking is a nightmare. There's basically no dedicated parking, so plan to park a bit farther and walk over if you want to avoid the stress. We ordered two bowls - one of them custom - and neither was great. I added chia seeds to mine, assuming they'd be soaked or mixed in (like literally every other place does). Nope. They gave them to me *dry* on top. Who eats raw chia seeds like that?! Had to scrape them off. The second bowl came with papaya, which looked like it came straight from a can: soaked in syrup and definitely not fresh. Honestly, the fruit in general didn't look or taste high quality. And the base? Supposed to be açaí, but all we could taste was banana. If you're not a banana fan (me), it ruins the purpose of an acai bowl. The vibe didn't help either because the young woman working there seemed over it. Not rude exactly, just unenthusiastic. Every question we asked was met with a monotone "what else, what else, what else," like we were inconveniencing her just by ordering. It felt weirdly off-putting. Honestly, not sure how this place got such high ratings. Wouldn't come back. Plenty of other better spots on the island for açaí. read more

Kona Wave was not too busy as I was able to just walk right up and order early this morning. It's amongst many little shops. I got the island bowl with no coconut flakes as I do not like coconut. My acai bowl was made quickly. I've never had an acai bowl with papaya before and it was not only beautifully colorful it was refreshingly delicious! I would definitely come back if I ever find myself in Kona. read more

Stayed at the King Kamehameha Hotel and directly across the street is this life saver called Kona Wave Cafe. It was hot and sunny in Kona and needed to stay cool. Also was feeling hungry but didnt want to have a full meal. This is where an açai bowl fits in perfect. Small little spot with some outdoor seating. Walked inside and they have a small menu that i think is just right for this place. Decided on their Monkey Bowl which is their signature açai blend, topped with granola, bananas, almond, honey and peanut butter. This is one of the best things I ate in Hawaii. So delicious, cold, flavorful, and healthy. It is a large amount of everything and filled to the top and drizzled with goodness. This is not only just a snack, but could be for breakfast or lunch or dinner if you are feeling like getting something healthy and not wanting a full meal at a restaurant. You can sit at the cafe to enjoy, walk around the shops, or go sit down at the ocean break wall or sit on the beach at the King Kamehameha hotel. I highly recommend to try this place and all the different types of açai bowls their offer. There is something for everyone. read more

If you're a big fan of açaí bowls, this spot might be the one for you. They have a small menu of items and I chose the "Monkey Bowl". This had bananas, granola and honey on top of the açaí. This was a nice way to start the day. This is a popular spot, so there can be a bit of a wait on weekend mornings. The place is small with some outdoor seating. read more

Acai Monkey, highly recommend. I absolutley love peanut butter in my acai so this was great! They greeted us and took our orders right away. Thankfully it was a hot day so this was perfect. Lots of seating outside and near the beach. Definitely worth the walk and experience with all these near by shops. read more

We ordered the Lychee Dream shave ice. It was tasty, but service was really bad. The worker who made our shave ice was extremely rude. Perhaps he was having a bad day but it definitely dampened the experience. We asked to double check that our shave ice was Lychee Dream and not Coconut Island as they look very similar and we had almost taken someone else's shave ice who had ordered the coconut one. However we received a very exasperated response to a simple question and dare I say an eye-roll. I will likely not return. read more

We tried their lychee dream and mango paradise shaved ice. Their ice wasn't cheap, but it was one of the better ones i've had on the island so far. The syrup was sweet and not diluted. I liked that they had fruits, popping boba, and condensed milk on both of the shaved ices we chose. We also tried the kona wave bowl. It was pretty ordinary. The fruits weren't very sweet or sour, so it made the bowl taste bland. It was supposed to have honey on the bowl, but I couldn't really taste it. We were pretty disappointed with the acai bowls, but we enjoyed the shaved ice! I would rate the shaved ice 4/5 and 2/5 for the acai bowls. read more

Great acai bowls. I got the monkey bowl with strawberries added and it was tasty. Every acai bowl is going to be great because they just assemble it and no one is actually making the ingredients. We've been coming here for a few years now. This review should've been written a while ago. We always love our açaí bowls and/or shave ice. Today happened to be extra awesome. We walked in about 5 minutes before they closed. I was fully expecting the gals to turn us away. Not only did they see us but they even let us sit down and enjoy our dinner. Of course we were considerate and kept an eye on them. Once it looked like they were about done, we got up and finished outside. It takes a special kind of person to continue to see customers so close to closing. Yes, this is how it should be but it rarely happens. Mahalo for the years of excellent food and friendly faces. Looking forward to our next custom açaí bowl. read more

I tried both the açaí bowl and the shaved ice here, and both are delicious! The açaí bowl had a good texture and was generous with their fruits and granola toppings. Really cute place to stop in for a bite. The staff were really nice and the menu isn't very large which makes ordering a bit easier. There is very little seating and even less in the shade so something to keep in mind on a sunny day. I ordered an iced honey latte with coconut milk and it unfortunately tasted sour. Not sure why, I had ordered the same thing the day prior but at a different store and it was amazing. Just not the same experience here and I would like to think it was just that one time fluke with something. Overall, I'd still recommend it and the smoothie bowl was perfection. read more

This all came out to $31.30 after tax, which is almost the same price as their large plate at $35.00, with two fewer scoops of rice. Of the items we ordered, the ube coconut was by far my favorite. I am definitely coming back again for more of this. I've never had ube in this format before, but the mild sweetness of the potato came through, and I enjoyed the chunky mashed potato texture. The next item I liked from the plate was the mac salad. I can't remember the last time I've had mac salad with this much black pepper sprinkled throughout it. The black pepper brought an unexpected amount of heat. Additionally, I thought the noodle were cooked perfectly. In most mac salads that I've had, the macaroni has been cooked far too long, but that was not the case here. I also appreciate that the mac salad was not drowned with mayo, another flaw I commonly see with this dish. Although the poke here is fresh, and the pieces are nicely cut -- all uniform in size, I thought the poke was a bit too salty, and needed to be enjoyed with the rice. The rice itself was a bit on the mushy side. Overall, we had a pretty solid meal at Paakai Poke & Deli. If you're in this area, stop by for the coconut ube -- you won't regret it.

We parked for free at St Michael's church nearby on a Monday afternoon. Public Parking nearby costs $15 an hour or $55 a day in that area. Some places do validate.

This place came recommended by one of the locals in Kona and I was skeptical when they said they didn't know how to describe it... how can a cafe be hard to describe? ... well now I know! I've honestly NEVER seen a cafe that offers liquor, wine, and beer. (I guess it's Hawaii, anything goes!) I was super surprised that they carry not only cheapies, but the local Kona Brew! I had a Pipeline Porter that had some coffee in it, DELICIOSO! Their $5 Martini's were great too! So many options, it really is a full bar. As far as the coffee goes, when I came back the next morning, I was greeted by an adorable barista who suggested a macchiato with almond milk (so nice to see a vegan option!). She told me it was organic kona coffee, and it tasted like nothing I've ever had in my life. I don't think I'll be able to go back to starbucks ever again. She also offered me a sample of their scones, and even though I'm not on a gluten free diet I ended up getting the gluten free triple berry scone because it was so darn good. The whole vibe in the cafe is perfect for kona town; bassnova-fusion music, relaxed atmosphere, a really artistic menu, and a knowledgeable staff! They made me feel like I was just hanging out with them, kept the conversation flowing, and they were genuinely interested in what I had to say. The owner, or at least I think it was her, offered up some great sightseeing tips around kona (such a plus+++). So many coffee shops make it seem like they just want you out of there as fast as possible, but the fact that they offer mugs to stay and sip makes me think they're more in it for the personal connection. bottom line, check out the buzz if you're in kona! there really isn't anyway to describe it other than, 'it's an awesome and unique cafe!' A Refreshing Açaí Experience at Kona Wave We decided to kickstart our day at Kona Wave by visiting right when they opened. The first thing we noticed was that the girls working there were neither overly friendly nor unfriendly. It's a trend we've noticed in some of these businesses here in Kona, where the traditional Aloha Spirit seems to be fading away. Nonetheless, we were here for the Açaí bowls, so we pressed on. The Açaí bowls at Kona Wave were a delightful surprise. They were packed to the brim with flavor and offered a satisfying treat after my previous experience with Açaí Hawaii. The rich, vibrant taste of the Açaí was a true winner. However, there was one small quibble. I couldn't help but question the quantity versus the sizes advertised. It seemed that what they referred to as a "large" bowl was more akin to a regular size at other places. It gave me pause, but ultimately, it didn't overshadow the quality of the Açaí. In summary, Kona Wave provided a refreshing Açaí experience, showcasing quality and flavor that stood out. While the friendly service could have been more welcoming, it's the taste and satisfaction that count, and Kona Wave delivered on that front. Today was crazy hot so stopped in for a smoothie and shave ice. The mango smoothie was amazing! My friend got a shave ice that was massive and full of crazy toppings. The ice cream inside was the perfect touch. However the service was a little slow, I guess they just opened so there wasn't many people working. I tried the lolikoi volcano, and personally I liked the gecko girls lava flow MUCH better. I don't know if they just don't put in a lot of juice like gecko girls, but it tasted much lighter compared to them. It wasn't bad, Probably less sugar. I also tried their açai bowls and that was pretty good. It probably wasn't the healthiest. I wish these açaí bowls had more fruit versus the smoothie base. read more

Brand new coffee shop/cafe that just opened right by the Kailua Pier right by the Splasher's restaurant. They use only 100% Kona Coffee! The must try is their specialty shave ice! They only use real fresh fruit syrups, which makes the shaved ice taste fresh. They also add many toppings on top! It's very pretty to look at! A must try when visiting Kona! read more

Everyone was getting shave ice so definitely have to try that next time! + Finally got their Lilikoi Volcano Shaved Ice today!!
