All five of my dogs were patients here, and the service has always been excellent. I hadn't been in for awhile and apparently Dr. Miller, who owned and started Rising Sun sold the business. My last visit felt a bit empty and robotic. We were herded in, given some meds and told that if my dog didn't get better, take her to the emergency room. Rising Sun charged me $900 for the visit, some of which were likely part of a lab charge. $900 seemed excessive, but I paid and left. After doing some research, I discovered that Rising Sun is now owned by private equity, so that explains everything. I will no longer support this business, as they have sold out. Luckily there are a few vets in Denver that haven't turned into poor quality, cash grabbing operations. So long, Rising Sun. You used to be first-rate and the finest vet I'd ever known, but you gave in, and now you're like all the rest. Dr. Miller would have a heart attack if she knew what Rising Sun has become. read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET PLEASE READ BELOW! Like others we went to Rising Sun because there were a lot of positive reviews and the staff were very friendly. But this was the biggest mistake I have ever made. Our baby Coco, who is both a service animal and an absolutely adorable little Maltese WAS HOSPITALIZED IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND ALMOST DIED BY THE GROSS NEGLIGENCE OF DR. DEANNA MILLER AND RISING SUN. Both of our pups have been under her care for the past 3 years. They had their regular checkups and we took them many times even for seemingly trivial things just to be sure they were healthy. Not until after Coco was hospitalized and we obtained copies of her medical records with Rising Sun did we see that she had been suffering from liver dysfunction and PLE for almost 2 years. As early as August 2020 during her annual review the blood work showed she was suffering from liver dysfunction and PLE. During her September 2021 checkup her liver enzymes were off the charts, indicating her liver cells were dying at an alarming rate and toxins were building up in her body. We have had some of the top vets and specialists in the greater Denver area review Coco's and Riley's records, and they were absolutely horrified that Dr. Miller had these results and made no diagnosis, did not refer us to a specialist or communicate that there was a serious problem that needed to be addressed immediately. Vets were able to discover that our baby Coco has a liver shunt, and for more than 2 years her liver has not been functioning as blood was not being filtered by her liver, carrying ammonia and other toxins into her organs and brain. She has lost 25% of her body weight in only 13 days since she was hospitalized and has been placed on a number of medications to give her a fighting chance. She is not out of the woods yet though, and we have surgery scheduled to close the shunt and allow her to continue to live. Dr. Miller has shaved years off of the life of Coco with her negligence, Coco's liver is small and suffering from significant scarring because Dr. Miller did not interpret the results of her blood work or refer us to a specialist. Her own notes show that she was supposed to follow up with us and perform blood work within 90 days and she did not do so and in fact Dr. Miller saw Coco an additional 6 times between her critical liver enzyme levels showing up and her eventual hospitalization. She said NOTHING! Rising Sun has no problem contacting us about all sorts of extra vaccines and shots they recommend and not authorizing our Chewy orders so that they can sell us their marked up products. But they couldn't even interpret basic blood work results, refer us to an internal medicine specialist or follow up with additional tests. In September of 2021 Dr. Miller must have known there was an issue with Coco's liver because her staff asked us to pick up a supplement that can help with liver function. One of the vets we are working with said giving Denamarin to a dog suffering from a liver shunt is roughly the equivalent of prescribing vitamin C to a cancer patient, it effectively does NOTHING. Since our September 2021 visit Dr. Miller and her staff have seen Coco and her sibling Riley numerous times (11 times combined) for other issues that now in retrospect would have been related to a failing liver or PLE (vomiting, diarrhea, hair-loss.) If Dr. Miller had done her job, and offered even the minimum standard of veterinary medical care as mandated by law in the state of Colorado, Coco would be happy and healthy and she would have had a full and healthy life. We are at almost $10,000 in veterinary bills and Coco has yet to undergo her surgery so we expect that we will be spending a lot more money. I would recommend that if you love your pet and you want them to live a happy and healthy life that you request all of your pet's records from Rising Sun and have another vet review them to ensure that something has not been missed. read more

I love Dr. Park. This is the second time I've brought my almost 12 year old pittie, Aspen, to Rising Sun. I trust her recommendations and expertise. The whole team was very sweet with Aspen and did everything they could to make her feel comfortable at her appointment (lots of treats and talking sweetly). Of course the visit is expensive but I am unphased, as this would be the case at any vet clinic. Aspen does NOT like her nails trimmed and she whimpers/yelps when I try to do it at home. The gang at Rising Sun took her back and clipped her nails without her yelping. They did a great job. I will be bringing my girl back to see them for any regular vet appointments! The guy that answered the phone to take my pets information, Collin or Connor, had a bad attitude and acted like my dogs issues were dumb and seemed inconvenienced about me using a Care Credit card for my pets care. Idk if he just has a lame attitude all the time but having that type of person answer the phone with concerned pet parents just isn't very comforting. My partner and I used to take our dog here when he was a puppy - out of convenience- which was our first mistake. There have been too many upsets associated with our visits there to list on this review, but we absolutely will not be going back. I will share one instance with you which is perhaps the most disconcerting. We took our dog here to get neutered because we really liked the veterinarian that had been seeing him (who was also the surgeon). Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong post operation, did. He developed a scrotal hematoma, which was pretty obvious to even my inexperienced eyes. But when the vet tech called the next day to check on him and I communicated my concerns, they were brushed off. Fast forward a couple of days, we took him back to Rising Sun to have a look, where they confirmed that he had a scrotal hematoma. Instead of taking the action that they should have at that time, they sent him on his way with pain medications that were strong enough for a small gerbil (he was 90 lbs at the time). Fast forward another 12 hours, and we were in the emergency vet office down the road because my dog was so uncomfortable that he couldn't even sit or lay down without whining. $1200 later (separate from the cost of the procedure at Rising Sun) and several hours spent in the ER, he was finally given the proper care that he needed potentially several days before (I.e. the day after his operation). Thanks to the VCA emergency care (and no thanks to Rising Sun), my dog was able to recover from his operation several weeks later. Needless to say, it was an incredibly long month. Wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Please do yourselves a favor and consider taking your fur babies elsewhere for their vet care needs. read more

This veterinary clinic is wonderful. All the staff, from reception to the DVMs, are terrific - they're warm, friendly, very knowledgeable, helpful and compassionate. Everyone makes you feel as though you and your pet are the most important to them, no matter what else is going on in their day. I'm another person who's really confused as to why there are negative reviews, but not every clinic works for every person. In my case, after having taken my cats to several other veterinarians in town, am thrilled with Rising Sun - my concerns and questions are always treated with respect and fully answered, and from wellness visits to dental work to major illness, my cat has received excellent care. read more

I'm retired and been traveling througout the western US with my cattle dog these last 4 years. Occasionally, I've needed verterinary services. It's a known fact that some breeds are prone to cancer, others hip displaysia, etc. Well, Cattle Dogs are prone to self injury! Espescially when hiking off leash through deserts and forests. My dog Lola has had a hitch in her step and at times a prominent limp in her front left leg and a lack of endurance for the last couple years. I've had blood tests and x-rays done without any real diagnosis. This has been very frustratining because hiking and walking small rural and big urban towns is what we do. This may seem selfish but the last thing I need is a lame dog. So obviously, I could be taken advantage of by veterinarian's as I pass through towns who are only interested in the bottom line. I'm happy to report that yesterday's experience at RSAC was 100% positive; 5 stars! From the receptionist who squeezed me into a cancelled appt and retrieved Lola's offsite records, to Genney the vet assistant who played an intregal part in my overall satisfaction, and to Dr. Miller, the owner and lead veterinarian who was not afraid to get down on the ground with Lola and put her through the mobility tests needed to arrive at a conclusion. My appointment was not rushed and personal. I felt like Lola and I were important and we weren't being pushed through overbooked schedule. I appreciate that. I also appreciate that they were willing to work with another vet's blood tests and xray's without trying to badger me into doing their own tests. To wrap-up a long and wonderful story, Dr. Miller suggested putting Lola on a diet. She believes if Lola can lose 10-15 lbs her problems will go away. We had a decent relationship with Rising Sun as we took our geriatric rescue there quite frequently. They did amazing dental work, for sure. However, we've since chosen to take our pup to another vet. He had skin irritation and was constantly licking, biting and scratching. Constantly. Like all day, all night. We were given a few things from Rising Sun that just didn't work. When we brought it up again at a later appointment, it was much of the same and were told it was nothing to worry about. After a few more sleepless nights because of the itching, biting and kicking we decided something had to give. We went to another vet for the first time since we've had our beloved pup. They prescribed a few medications and a different medicated shampoo. I'm not exaggerating when I say we saw a difference within 24 hours with the new vet. The itching and scratching stopped. Completely stopped. Our dog was happy as ever again. Unfortunately because of this, we likely won't return to Rising Sun. Take this review with a grain of salt because overall the staff was always friendly and really seemed to care for our dog - which is why I gave a two star review instead 1, despite the lack of helping as far as the skin situation went. I was actually pretty close to going with three stars still, but decided I couldn't let my positive memories interfere with the decisions made over what could have been a pretty bad skin infection that could have really impacted our dogs and our own, quality of life. They just missed on this one and I don't know if we can risk another miss when it comes to our furry family member, because they missed pretty badly. read more

Rising Sun is directly across from my townhouse. When I moved in years ago a was thrilled to have a veterinarian office right across the street. Shortly after moving in my cat (Virginia) became ill and I walked her across the street. The doctor (who was not very personable) took her in the back. A few minutes later I heard my cat screaming in the back. The assistant came to the waiting area and said that my cat went into cardiac arrest when they put an IV in her but that they brought her back and I had 5 minutes with her. It was devastating. And not very compassionate or sympathetic. After that, I actually returned to Rising Sun (as I was really hoping to have a vet directly across the street). I had a tiny chihuahua (Sybil - 8 years old and only 2 pounds). Sybil had been having (what we thought) were back problems. The doctor really pushed us to do acupuncture (which I knew nothing about) ... no x-rays. I consented and they started sticking a bunch of needles into a teeny 2 pound dog. And then left us in the room alone with here for 15 minutes as she was traumatized and almost all of the needles just kept falling out all over the floor immediately. And it was NOT affordable. These were both bad experiences. I had Sybil to another vet that week and had her back in shape with a steroid. Why did I write this review years later? Because I have to look out my door and see this Rising Sun every day. And it turns my stomach. And that was my experience. I never returned and never will again. read more

She was already scheduled for a visit on Friday this week but I called this morning and asked if she could be seen sooner as I was a little concerned. They told me I could come in and have her checked out at 9am. It was hard to not be able to be with Annie during the visit due to covid restrictions, but Alicia was wonderful and I felt totally reassured that she was in great hands. I have an elderly animal with alot of different care needs. After reading positive reviews and being recommended by a pet shop I decided to try to take my kitty in for some acupuncture. The Vet Assistant seemed to be very knowledgeable and I thought I was in the right place, till she went back and I could literally hear the eye rolls in regards to my pet and my care for him. Which, I swear no one loves their pet as much as I do. He is literally my child and we have spent 19 years together. The snickering and comments I heard through the door(which seriously, you can hear everything and I have bad hearing, so that says something)... made me very upset and made me a bit emotional. I came here to help my baby find relief from his physical pain and his slight limp that he has had, probably due to a seizure he had a month ago and his arthritis. I came here specifically for acupuncture. Now there are several different practices and styles of acupuncture. Some practitioners penetrate into the muscle tissue, which there is alot of controversy on. Some only goes into the outer layers of the skin and is believed to improve energy flow and allowing toxins or ailments to pass through. Either way, Acupuncture is not intended to be painful I work at a integrative medical center and have had acupuncture done by a variety of healthcare providers and it has never hurt... it should not go deep enough to cause pain, yet my pet screamed out in agony. I asked to stop the procedure after I could see my elderly kitty stressed out and in agony. The vet through a hissy fit and said, "I can't help you" and ripped the needles out of my cat. Then left the room and left the door open and then went to the receptionist and talked shit about me. So RUDE! This experience was so terrible I left in tears. NEVER have I ever been treated this way by a vet simply for caring for my pet. I am his mother, I am trying to do the best possible for him and to talk bad about me for absolutely no reason except that your causing pain and not relief is uncalled for. I will never step foot there again. I recommend the Alameda Pet Hospital. The staff is very nice and never once have they been rude or mistreated me or my pet. read more

Dr. Deanna Miller has been my family's vet for the past five years. She is a great vet, always taking the time to listen to my concerns and provide me with treatment options. When one of my two dogs was hit by a car, she stayed open an extra 2 hours to allow me time to get to her office and then care for my pet. I was on the hunt for a new vet for my 3 yr old lab Vega, our previous vet became too far away after we moved. Our first visit was last Saturday and it went so well! We were greeted right away by a friendly woman behind the front desk who promptly weighed Vega and rewarded him with a treat. We were then taken into an examining room, a few short minutes later the vet's assistant was in the room asking questions and taking notes. It wasn't long after that when Dr Miller entered and examined Vega. I was truly impressed with Dr Miller, she was very thorough in explaining everything I needed to know, she handled Vega very well, was very nice and funny! The bonus: I received a follow-up call two days later asking how Vega was doing. I'm so glad I found a vet I can trust and feel comfortable taking my sweet Vega to. This place is great! The staff are super friendly and Deanna is a great vet. She tells it like it is and loves every animal that I have brought there, which is now 1 cat and 4 dogs. I had to put down two dogs and they sent me cards with everyone in the office signing them and two footprints with my dogs names on them. They also give a free checkup to new animals. The staff is warm, welcoming and remembers the dogs and customers names and quirks. Dr. Miller is an honest, intelligent and down to Earth women who truly cares for her clientele and takes the time to make sure all questions are answered and she does a thorough and professional job. I've been impressed any time a recommendation was made for my dog's care and it's accompanied by, "This should be done immediately because........" and an explanation is given, or "This should be done but we can wait and monitor for a bit if that's more comfortable." I never feel pressured, or like I'm a bad pet owner, if I choose to delay a recommendation until I can better afford it. I trust them explicitly and recommend them to everyone I talk to. read more

We rescued two pups about 6 years ago that came with anxiety and fear based aggression. Selecting a vet that not only knew how to handle our pups, but also put us at ease was key. From our first appointment with Dr. Miller, there was no doubt in our minds we had selected our vet. Over the years she and her staff have always been personable, professional and thorough. Recently, one of our dogs became ill. Dr. Miller and Dr. Chris (and their staff) took a vested interest in treating him. They were accommodating when we needed to get him in with short notice, they spent time explaining his situation and their recommendation. They were reasonable with their recommendations and made sure they aligned with our goals. Rising Sun helped us during one of our most difficult times, and we are so thankful for them. I have been taking my dogs to Rising Sun since shortly after they opened. They were recommended to me by a close friend who is a vet. In short, I love this practice. My younger Lab is terrified of the vet and they do a great job with him. I credit Deanna and her out of the box thinking for buying my older Lab at least two years of additional life. He recently passed away at the age of 13-1/2 - really old for a big Lab. By the end he had hip and knee issues as well as cancer. Deanna did everything she could to keep him comfortable and was always there for me if I needed help or advice. This is one of the most caring and hands on practices I have ever seen. I am very disturbed and alarmed at the care our kitten received at Rising Sun. We adopted a little Bengal kitten and were unable to take him to our primary vet was out of town. So we took our kitten to our secondary vet, Rising Sun. We brought up several times we were concerned about our kitten's diarrhea and that we really just wanted a kitten check. Before I knew it we were being pressured to do all kinds of vaccinations and tests on our kitten. We became overwhelmed and consented to a leukemia test. Here is where everything went so far south...our kitten was clearly dehydrated from the diarrhea (we did bring this up several times). They took our kitten in the back to draw blood. We could hear our kitten screaming. Ok, he doesn't like the blood draw. I get it. Maybe he was being dramatic. This went on for TWENTY MINUTES. Finally a tech came in and said our kitten was "putting up a fuss" so they took a break from trying to get the blood and were trying to calm him down with food then they'd try to complete the test. WTF. More screaming and then they brought our kitten back in. I just stood there while the vet delivered this deadpan and uncaring speech about the test. Meanwhile our kitten was SHAKING. I was so angry and disappointed I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. The next day I had to repeatedly call to find out the test results. Finally, while I was driving home, I was able to get a hold of a tech who said I had to wait for the vet to call me. I expressed my concern and anxiety. The tech was very rude and said she couldn't tell me anything and the vet would call. I knew something was wrong. So the vet finally called and said our kitten had tested positive for leukemia. She was very matter of fact and when I started asking questions all she would repeat is that we could just retest him in a few months. More WTF. I called Rising Sun and asked for our kitten's records to be transferred to our primary vet and gave the email address. The records weren't sent btw until our primary vet called to request them. I waited a couple days and brought our kitten in to our primary vet. He took one look at our kitten and immediately said our kitten was dehydrated and we needed to address this first, get some weight on him and test his poo. Turns out our kitten had giardia and was in a lot of pain because of all the gas, which was why he was meowing so much. We established a vaccination plan, a health plan and plan for the potential leukemia. (turns out a false positive is alarmingly common) I am glad to say our kitten has gained over 2 lbs in a month, is playing and healthy. From the service I received at Rising Sun, or as my husband calls it Rising Invoice, I can't imagine we would have establish a health plan like we did at our primary vet. I did receive a rambling voicemail from Rising Sun about letting them if I plan on returning...Um, hard pass. read more

I have taken my dogs to several vets over the last 20 years, and Dr. Miller and her team at Rising Sun Animal Care are clearly the best! First, she stays up on the latest research, medications, and treatments, and is willing to take the time to explain the options and answer my questions. She also invites specialists into her office to provide additional consultation and support, which made a difference when my dog Bo had a difficult nail infection. Bo had a stubborn weight problem for many years, and yet Dr. Miller was the first doctor to suspect it might be due to a thyroid problem. After a simple blood test and some inexpensive medication, he was down to his target weight within a month! I wish I could keep my weight balanced so easily! When our family experienced some temporary financial hardship, Dr. Miller was sympathetic and worked with us in various ways so we could continue treatment that we could afford. She clearly cares more about animals and their families more than just making a buck, which is pretty rare these days. I am very surprised to see some of the negative reviews for Rising Sun. I decided to try Rising Sun after having been repeatedly dismissed by other vets regarding my 6 year old cat's chronic vomitting issues. Another highly rated vet clinic close by brushed it off as just "being a cat" and suggested anti-acids. I scheduled an appointment with Rising Sun, and to my surprise, in just simply explaining the symptoms, Dr. Allison Brown immediately began educating us on Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and discussed our options moving forward. I had never had a vet take my concerns seriously, and to see Dr. Allison's unprompted concern and willingness to work on finding the cause was very encouraging. Since our first appointment she has gone over several options, walked us through the symptoms of IBD, lab results, etc. I finally feel like I have a vet that cares about solving this problem that many many many other vets have dismissed.
