I have been going to this vet for almost 3 years with my cat now and things initially were really great but I've had numerous not so great experiences recently. First- 2 visits ago they had him listed as a 2 year old. He's been going there 3 years so it's not possible for him to age backwards. Plus they have his file scanned from his adoption showing his birthdate. I informed them he was 6. My most recent visit I see on his file that he is now 4. I crossed it out and changed it again back to 6. The reason this is serious to me is because they keep referencing his age when analyzing his conditions and saying blah blah "for such a young cat." But he's not 2. Or 4. He's 6. And his name also is not Oliver... I went in on a Monday and had bloodwork done. They were supposed to call the next day with results but didn't. And not the next day either. His vet had gotten sick and called out and it would've been under her specific file to call me, but given I had called inquiring I feel a different professional should've been able to at least convey the results to me more quickly. Finally, today I dropped him off at 7:45 for an ultrasound. I had been under the impression and told that it would occur between 9-12. I just called and the tech didn't even get there until after 11. Now he has to sit there for a bit longer and I had been counting down minutes to get his results. I loved this vet and I'm really sad about what's happening there. Not sure if the switched systems or something but normally they, and especially Kim, are super good at communicating and doing everything they can. Now I feel weird leaving him with them because they don't even know his name... age... when the doctor will be there... read more

The last few months have been difficult for my two cats, my husband and me. Gracie, our 19 year old cat, was dying of old age and Claire, the other cat, was suffering from a cancerous growth in her nose. During this difficult time, Dr. Andy and the entire staff have offered unwavering support and practical help. Sometimes the treatments seemed costly, but these veterinarians made sure to choose cost-effective options that would ensure our cats received the optimal care. When we had to make tough choices, such as whether to consult a specialist about Claire's cancer, Dr. Andy always explained the options thoroughly and made it clear that the choices such as radiation therapy or palliative treatment were ours to make. Techs are friendly but the correspondence with vet is horrendous. Been waiting 7+ days now for an email back on my diabetic cats prescriptions, advised food that's actually terrible for diabetic cats (didn't inform me it was a prescription food then took a week to get that script). When I did get a reply it at 10pm then took another 4 days to get back to me. Felt like I was upsold something on every visit, I learned more information about my cats diabetes from a Facebook group than the actual vet. 10/10 would not recommend this place unless you need your nails trimmed or something read more

This is the best vet my dogs have ever been to in their life and I'm so sad that we had to move out of state. I'm writing this from out of state because we're at their new veterinarian office who is just awful and doesn't care about the dogs the only care about the money. BAIT AND SWITCH! BEWARE! I wish I could give zero stars... I get it, veterinary clinics are businesses. What is sad is that this one is doing unethical business practices. We called around to a bunch of different vet clinics to get pricing for the TPLO surgery. The Center for Animal Wellness gave us a quote that was the cheapest we could find, awesome right? No. We made the consultation appointment that was $75 and then the vet said they needed to do another $600 worth of tests to prepare for the surgery. Once those were completed and we were ready to book the surgery date, we found out the price for the surgery more than doubled to almost $6K! What?! How? Well, apparently, the receptionist made a mistake and mis-quoted us. We wouldn't have paid them almost $700 in tests and for the appointment if we had received the correct information up front and been quoted this outrageous price. So, we went to another vet and had to get the tests all redone because the tests they took at the Center for Animal Wellness weren't usable by them. We asked for a refund after this was clearly their error and the manager would not take any responsibility. There are better vet practices out there. Don't go here. Their business practices are unethical. I am also going to be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as customers need to be aware of what this place is doing. They are extremely strict with their policies and gave no space for compromise or accommodation. I was really upset on the phone as they were trying to take my deposit and Im a student and needed some compromise as I was cancelling. I got hung up on multiple times and although I said nothing ill towards the lady at the front desk they said I was being rude to her and made her cry and the manager proceeded to berate me when all I wanted was some help. I genuinely meant no ill vibes towards the lady and was shocked that I was being spoken down to in such a manner. The lady at the front desk is terrible - angry rude and a very unhappy soul. She is rude on the phone and in person - the only way she must keep her job is to be related to someone important at the clinic. It's too bad because it completely ruins the rest of the experience, bad enough that we changed vets. If I could select more stars, I would in a heartbeat. Dr. Andy and his staff are *amazing* They have always been super responsive (even with my 6am "oh sh*" emails). Molly at the front desk is a dream and is always super helpful with questions, scheduling, and emergencies. Dr. Andy is so passionate about what he does and cares so deeply about the fur babies. Since day one, he has always asked lots of questions and spent lots of time answering a ton of mine. He calls to check up on the kids, and will call with results and explain then in depth. 2 years ago, my dog had a dental procedure that we knew would result in multiple teeth pulled, but it turned out to be more complicated, and he called me with updates to ensure I was aware of what was going on and could make the best decisions. My cat had a complicated medical history. One day I took him in bc he was not being his usual peppy self, and Dr. Andy found something abnormal in his abdomen. He immediately called me to discuss this in depth, as well as turned into a therapist for me. It was the end of the day, and he & staff quickly arranged a specialist to come first thing in the AM to do a STAT test. This resulted in Dr. Andy, Dr. Courtney, and all the staff legit stopped their day to call every clinic around town to find someone who could do a necessary surgery. In the end, they were able to talk to a surgeon at CSU and arranged us to drive up there for an emergency surgery to happen as soon as we arrived. Literally, Dr. Andy is everything to us for saving his life. Unfortunately, my cat has since passed away, from completely unrelated reasons, and Dr. Andy personally called me with his condolences, and the office sent us a wonderful, heartfelt card. I switched to CAW last year as my veterinarian changed to this practice. I really like the staff and the care given here. All in all I have had fairly good luck at Denver vets, but this place is a step above. My dog Maxine has had a few issues in her life and CAW staff is always attentive and listens well and asks pertinent questions. Also they have fit me in during their lunches when Maxine had a pressing issue. I usually see Dr Hill, but today I saw Dr Courtney Turner and she was great. The fees are reasonable, in line with other Denver clinics. The location is convenient for me and they have a few parking places but I have never had a problem parking on the street right in front. You cannot go wrong here in my humble opinion. Either Dr Jeanne Hill or Dr Courtney Turner are excellent clinicians. And like I mentioned, the support staff are kind and caring too. read more

I have only great things to say about The Center for Animal Wellness. My boss suggested them as a vet for this English Bulldog, Dutch, that I was fostering last year. He needed several major surgeries due to overbreeding and they came back with a reasonable estimate. I decided to go through them for the surgeries and they were very accommodating and were personally invested in Dutch and his well-being. I decided to begin taking my pug, Daphne, to The Center for Animal Wellness because of how great they were with Dutch. She just underwent a dental cleaning with many teeth needing to be removed. The cost was reasonable and the care was second to none. They treated Daphne just like the queen she is. They were flexible with scheduling follow-up appointments and never tried to oversell me with anything. I feel very confident in their ability to care for my dog. When you walk into the office you can quite literally feel the love of your animal from the staff. I wish I would have left this positive review sooner because they deserve it. read more

My cat is getting up there in years. Ol' man Mica is now pushing 15 - and 15 years of surviving with me is no small feat. He's a tough cookie but age is taking its toll, which means vet visits are becoming more frequent and more serious and, quite frankly, more pricey. 15 years schlepping to and fro across the country also means that Mica and I have been to our fair share of vets. We've been going to the Center for a couple years now and I'm gonna go ahead and full-out vouch for Dr. Courtney and her assistant Malik. They are gentle and kind without the baby talk and they put Mica at ease. Malik is thorough with reading the charts and has a great memory, so I don't have to repeat myself when Dr. Courtney comes in and I have faith that details won't be overlooked. Dr. Courtney has done impressive troubleshooting with Mica's mysterious health issues and has always been up front with how much everything costs (BEFORE doing anything). She's incredibly accommodating with my financial crises and helps me strategize viable options. She explains all aspects of an issue in a way that's easy to understand, even for someone with no medical background. This place has seen me in some pretty emotionally tough and stressful situations and everyone is very supportive. Prices are reasonable and transparent. CFAW is the absolute best vet clinic in Denver, and we trust Dr. Andy as our primary vet completely. I brought my dogs because our tiny chihuahua wasn't eating since we introduced a new puppy into the house and because the puppy needed shots and was having some stomach issues. Dr. Andy is as amazing as the reviews mention below! He sat down and went over each dog individually, listened to every issue, and discussed each of the treatment options. I think we were there for about 1.5 hours total for the two dogs. Most vets want to rush you in and out, so they can make more money, but Dr. Andy was compassionate and caring and took his time, so that we were at ease. We brought both of our dogs to a different vet down the street about a week prior, and were sent home thinking everything was ok, but we were wrong. Dr. Andy discovered that our 4 lb chihuahua had a severe heart murmur (5 out of 6 intensity), which was totally missed by the vet down the road. He came down sat down with us and discussed the severity of the issue and talked about all of the options and answered our questions. If it hadn't been for our decision to seek other care, our little girl might not be with us right now. I brought her for an ECG and they confirmed that she has a very severe murmur which is treatable by medication. If advise at a vet or doctor doesn't seem right, go for a second opinion. I'd highly recommend this vet because they are compassionate and thorough. read more

i am so happy i found TCAW! after moving from austin to denver i was really afraid i wouldn't be able to find a vet that cared for my dogs as much as i do, but this place has proved their top priority is my dogs health. i recently had one of my pups tear her ACL, and while i have seen a couple of reviews here say that it was way too expensive, the quality of their work is what you pay for. i had multiple doctors from here explain in detail why this was needed for my dog, as well as the surgeon personally sit down with me and go through any concerns i had. my pup is now 2 weeks post surgery and doing amazing, if it weren't for the incredible doctors and surgeon here my dog wouldn't be able to walk on 4 legs. i am eternally grateful! read more

Winston, our beautiful American Spaniel, was around 20 years old. John got him from the Longmont Humane Society 13 or so years ago and they guessed he was roughly 7 at the time. We took our precious little boy to Dr Andy and the team many many times over the last 5 years, with anything from reoccurring ear infections, echo-cardiograms, thyroid medications and a wide number of shots, in fact they created his very 1st International travel passport, updating his rabies and worming tablets so he cold travel to London with us, which he did several times. Throughout Covid a technician would meet us at the door and take a hold of Winston, many times carrying him in, even though he could walk. Winston was diagnosed by Dr Andy with aggressive melanoma Dec 1, our little boy didn't want to leave us, but was deteriorating fast and the Center for Animal Wellness had to help him go to sleep. I brought my pup here after she was treated for a neurological problem at Alameda East. I wanted to make sure I found a vet that would understand her medical history and be able to treat her accordingly. dr Courtney has been wonderful! It's hard to let your pup go in to a new doctor and wait outside (our new reality) but I know that she's in good hands behind those doors. The staff is caring and helpful and so is Dr Courtney. I've been taking my rescue cat Fanny to CAW since 2015 when she adopted me. I hadn't had a cat in 15 years and a friend strongly recommended CAW. I've been so pleased with the friendly veterinarians and staff! Dr. Andy spends a good amount of time with me and Fanny. He asks questions, answers my questions and gently examines her. This morning I had a VERY sick puppy on my hands. Our usual vet wouldn't see us without an appointment (even after I described the serious symptoms) unless I agreed to a $300 hospital fee. After four calls to other vets in my Highlands neighborhood no one could make time for an urgent visit. A coworker recommended I contact The Center for Animal Wellness, and I'm so glad he did. Michelle answered and talked me through my concerns, put me on hold to talk to a doctor, and then asked me to come in right away. The entire staff was lovely and helpful even though they were having a rough day with phone outages and technical difficulties. They treated my dog just as I would want them to, with love and care. Dr. Ashley was great and friendly, she even sat on the floor with me so we could both pet the dog while she explained her condition to me. They even made sure the medicine was working before we left. I'm so grateful. The cost of this emergency visit was less than I expected as well. Even though this office is far from my house I'll be bringing my pets here from now on. read more

Love this place - have been taking our cats here for over 3 years. Always top notch care and attention, a seemingly genuine passion for out pets and we just have a lot of confidence in them. Our cats have their annual check ups, vaccinations and both have required minor surgery since we had them (teeth removed). Never ever had any complaints. We usually see Dr Andy, who is just great - always takes the time to fully explain everything and is more than happy to answer our questions. Thanks Yelp!! I had been looking for a new vet over the past year or so, tried a friends Wash Park recommendation but it wasn't a good fit. Finally after careful consideration of fellow Yelpers comments, I decided to give Center for Animal Wellness a try. What stands out at The Center for Animal Wellness is...well everything. This is one of if not the best vet clinic I have ever been to in Denver. (and I have been to several over time, including Belcaro and Alameda East). From the moment you walk in the Center's door you enter a clean, friendly environment with an overall feeling of calm. A sleeping cat or two near reception is always a good sign. Dr. Andy is our vet and he couldn't be more knowledgable, kind, thorough and professional. I can't tell you the peace of mind his attitude provided when I recently had my senior dogs' teeth cleaned under anesthetic. It is always a risk-especially with older animals-yet I felt my dog was in very capable hands. After many extractions, a couple phone calls and specific instructions, my dog healed very quickly and seems to have been re-born@14+ years. He is very frisky again and I can tell he feels really good. (he never seemed to act like he felt bad but did seem like he was slowing down. Unbeknownst to me, his teeth were causing him pain. I had chosen to do the anesthesia-free hand scaling teeth cleaning for my dog for the past few years and they said his teeth weren't great but no mention of how many were bad). The entire dental experience with Dr. Andy and team was nothing short of excellent-everyone we came in contact with was outstanding. No one pushed any products or un-necessary services on us (which I really appreciate) and the visits have all been in the reasonable range-not the gouging range which seems to be popular with some vet clinics. I am so pleased to have this clinic (with its own easy parking area) near my neighborhood (Capitol Hill) and after cat and dog visits (and the dental surgery) I feel I can highly recommend them. read more

I had been a client of vet Aubrey Lavizzo. I am an animal lover and animal rights activist. When, via email, Lavizzo completely misconstrued something I said about the horrific "dog meat trade" in the far east and harshly misjudged me, I suggested he examine his motive and judgment. Lavizzo did not extend me the courtesy of a thoughtful reply, instead stating dismissively via email, "Do not contact me again". He added, astoundingly, "This George Bernard Shaw quote might help you understand my disregard for your feelings: "Never wrestle with a pig; you get dirty and the pig likes it." Lavizzo's derisive admission of his "disregard for my feelings" ought to give you insight into his character. Go find a vet with integrity, and listening and reading skills because Lavizzo is severely lacking in both. read more

The absolute best vet practice in the state of CO. Aside from being AAHA certified (look it up,) the vets and staff are warm and caring individuals. They spend as much time as you could possibly need to explain health issues that may come up, give as much support as you could possibly need when making tough medical choices, and have infinite compassion for your 4 legged children. One vet even stayed overnight in the clinic with my friend's extremely sick pup when my friend was out of town and her dog had an emergency surgery. You cannot do better than this place! read more

I bought my geriatric chihuahua in due to an injury from a scuffle with my other dog. We saw Dr. Turner. I explained my concern that my pooch almost died from ITP (immune mediated thrombocytopenia), and that administering certain drugs could result in a relapse that is resistant to treatment which could ultimately result in death. After they examined my pooch, she felt it would be best to administer antibiotics. I again brought up my concern about my dogs condition and asked that we use the safest drugs possible. The vet tech came back with an antibiotic and carprofen (generic rimadyl). I never asked for the carprofen, and upon further investigation when I returned home, the insert for rimadyl states post approval adverse reactions include ITP. I called and asked to return the caprofen for a refund because it should have never been administered to a dog with ITP. They said they would have to call me back and of course, I never heard back. I don't feel the vet properly researched what she prescribed and thank goodness I did my research and never administered it to my dog. I felt the very least they could do is refund my money for a drug that should have never been prescribed to a dog that had ITP. Do your own research and get second opinions! read more

Took our new kitten in for a check up and a couple of vaccines/tests. The whole thing took about an hour and a half and cost about $160. The vaccines/tests were priced well, but the most expensive thing was the new patient exam at $65. We recently brought our dog Marshall in for the first time for a checkup. My experience was amazing! Dr. Courtney was so professional and personable. She really gets how much her clients love their pets! Doctor Courtney helped us come up with creative and affordable solutions to address concerns and improve our dog's health.
