Ask yourself, next time you're sick and feeling horrible and having to schedule dr appointments, if you really want your PT office to be adding a $75 fee to your day and trying to argue that you should do it virtually? Life happens, a fee makes perfect sense for personal cancellations but not for when I've woken up at 8am just to let you know I'm missing the appointment. Honestly, best physical therapy experience I have literally ever had. Granted this was only my 2nd ever PT but oh my did Simone change my life. No lie, I'd been living for too long with some pain that I thought I was stuck with. I worked with Simone weekly (initially twice a week for a couple of weeks) for about 5 months and I am a literal new human. Like I did not think it was possible to be at this current point in my life with minimal to no pain. She taught me so much about the source of the pain, how to manage it and minimize it and no number of degrees I like to collect would have ever led me to the conclusions she has. She is insanely knowledgeable and saying that she knows what she is doing is an understatement. The ONLY reason I won't be going as often, or at all, is because I moved out of the city and though the trek up to the city would be absolutely worth it, I might not have the time in my schedule during their current business hours. But we shall see because it is truly worth it. I think my favorite part though was the conversations we had. She provided both physical and mental therapy and I honestly looked forward to our 30 min just to chat. I've decided that if we had met on the streets we'd be friends lol thank you for everything! Extremely negative experience - I recommend avoiding, especially for sensitive people. 1. Rules over clients: From the moment you enter, it's all about strict rules. Shoes must be removed while the therapist herself walks in street shoes, leaving me to walk barefoot on a dirty floor. A strict 7-minute arrival "window" is enforced with constant reminders. 2. No empathy, no encouragement: My health situation was met not with support, but with a cold list of "everything wrong" with me. 3. Dismissive and controlling: She started by saying I had options, then immediately took them away--deciding for me without ever asking my preferences. 4. Rough, frightening approach: She touched my body roughly, without explanation of what or why. I felt scared and wanted to leave. 5. Unhygienic setup: I was forced to lie down with bare skin on an almost uncovered, cold, probably dirty table, with only scraps of torn old sheets covering part of it. 6. Poor communication: The entire first appointment was evaluation only--no treatment--yet this was never disclosed upfront. I left not only without help but in more pain than I arrived. 7. Lack of emotional intelligence: My feelings were met with silence. No compassion, no reassurance. Awful experience overall--wasted time and energy, and I left feeling much worse. read more

Have you ever dislocated a bone? I don't recommend it. So something weird happened to me while at home. I dislocated the *proximal tibiofibular joint* on my right knee. How did it happen? I slit up onto the back of my couch that is just below the hip height with my right cheek and right leg. The bone popped out and the pain sent me to the floor clutching my knee in extreme pain. I was not real sure what to do to get out of this situation. I could not straighten nor bend my right knee. My leg was stuck in a 90degree angle. I put out an sos to a few professionals that I had been aquatinted with in the past for other issues. I got lucky that Bettina of Rising Sun Physical Therapy was able to come to my rescue. Good thing I caught her just before she was leaving the office. Anyway Bettina quickly hopped on a virtual call with me to see if there was something she could do or if I needed to go the ER. I refused to go to the ER and Bettina agreed to help me. After a short assessment Bettina was able to determine that I had a dislocated the little bone in my lower leg. She helped me with clear, easy instructions to get the bone back in place even through my whimpers and screams. This was the most pain I have ever felt in my life and Bettina was able to correct it. To my surprise the little bone slid right back into position with a small pop to signal that the bone was back into place and I was able to walk and move right away. Hallelujah! My Physical Therapy started today with a very comprehensive assessment that resulted in an action plan to never have this happen again. I am very fortunate to have found Bettina, a person that just wants to help the body to do what is supposed to do and get you out of pain and functioning within normal parameters. My experience at Rising Sun Physical Therapy was OK. Front desk receptionist is kind. Bettina provided a home exercise plan that catered to my health issues. My overall health has improved slightly and the care plan thay they provided is somewhat helpful. My complaints are that the online/video physical therapy sessions are not the greatest idea. Online physical therapy sessions are inefficient because a lot of time is wasted just trying to get the camera set up properly and I think these sessions should only be held in office for that reason. I would also like to add that most of my PT sessions (online and in person) started 5-10 minutes late because they were already booked with other patients. This reduces the session time to about 15-20 minutes which seems a bit rushed in my opinion. Bettina is a very knowledgable physical therapist and has given me good PT advice. However there are times when I felt like our sessions were rushed and lacking thorough instructions. For some reason I feel like Bettina was frustrated with my execution of the exercises and I could sense this during my sessions. I would find myself confused while doing the exercises because I would be told to perform them at different speeds (from slow to fast pace), so there was some inconsistency in the exercise program. Sometimes I wouldn't even know how to properly perform the exercises because our sessions were cut short. The physical therapist Simone is great. She is dedicated, knowledgeable and committed to her patients. They still practice strict COVID protocol, so be prepared. They also have a serious late policy, that includes as much as 8 mins late will be considered (without exception) a no-show. Additionally, if you need to reschedule within 48 hours, consider yourself out of luck, no matter who died, what illness you have or how you got stuck at work. However, if a PT cancels on you last min, don't worry, you don't have to pay, because they are allowed to have their second chances, just not you as the patient. Lastly, their reminders which supposedly come 24 hours ahead of your appointment, sometimes/most of the time just don't come at all. Overall, PT great, front desk? I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2012 and had to undergo a radical surgery including the removal of 24 lymph nodes on my left lower extremity. Lymphedema set in a few years after and I searched everywhere for a good therapist. I had a hard time looking for a clinic as there were very very few in the city. I tried different clinics and I went through them ineffectively. I finally found Rising Sun Physical Theraphy , a Lymphodema clinic downtown ( big drive from the other side of town), and I must say I was skeptical about the effectiveness of the treatment. We initially had a not so smooth relationship as I was pretty hard headed and wanted instant gratification. However, after several sessions, she proved to me that her techniques are truly effective in reducing swelling and improving circulation. Bettina is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and caring. She takes the time to explain the process and ensures that I was comfortable throughout each session. She listens attentively to any concerns I had and provided me with simple exercises and tools to use at home to continue my progress. Her staff is also very accommodating and they have access to all the necessary equipment that I need to further help with my therapy. Rising Sun offers 30 min appts. only. It takes most of us longer to get to the appointment than the appointment actually lasts. Strict 48 hr. cancellation policy. $60 fee for those who don't abide by this rule. NO shoes allowed to be worn in office. The sign stating this objective is not at eye level, but rather 'foot level'. I hadn't seen the sign (because my eyes aren't in the front of my feet), but another helpful(?) client passive-aggressively hit me with a ton of prolonged stares at my feet thus letting me know that I should be taking off my darn shoes. Gee, thanks? FYI-- the office manager and a receptionist both wear shoes while working, so there's that. It usually takes 24 hrs before front desk responds to appt. change requests yet front desk both calls and emails same day re: wanting clients (read: me) to be amenable to immediate changes in Rising Sun's appointment book. Hmm...should I leave R.S. dangling for 24 hrs before responding? No, because I'm not a douche. Certain PTs often arrive to the tiny waiting area to fetch clients ten, fifteen minutes after start time with nary an apology or mention. I was told by a specific PT that I could email questions to her requesting clarification of exercise info. given during sessions. I attempted to email this person twice & never received a response. I ping-ponged between different PTs with different strategies, so that not only was there no cohesion, but each session was a bit of a Ground Hog Day in that the PT present needed to familiarize herself with what has gone on before. 30 minutes go by FAST in this scenario. If you've poor insurance, then you might be stuck with Rising Sun as (one of your) only option(s). Try to make the best of it! read more

I'm incredibly picky when it comes to PT with a history of a collegiate and professional athletics. At first I was a little skeptical when I was referred to Rising Sun PT post hand surgery. I couldn't have been more wrong. Simone has been absolutely fantastic post surgery on my hand. In addition, she helped with a shoulder issue that has been plaguing me for over a year. When I see physical therapists in the past I hoped they work, but having had two separate period of experience working with my headache and neck pain issues with Bettina, I am more than confident that it will work. Thank you Bettina and team for the wonderful care! I developed a frozen shoulder during COVID and after my long time physical therapist office went out of business, they recommended Rising Sun. The office is located downtown and was walkable from my office or from Market St. I've always been wary of dirty shoes especially ones that have been through the city so I appreciate the no outside shoes rule and the clean bright environment. Bettina met with me through the duration of my PT prescription and also recommend the Total Motion Detox program that the office also offers. The Total Motion Detox Program was a great way to build a set of self-care skills that continue to help my shoulder and in fact, many other minor muscle tweaks that I might encounter in the future. The program also includes continued support from Bettina via Zoom in a group setting. It was really great to have someone who really wants you to be able to learn how to take care of yourself and your body and provides you with the tools. Pushes quick appointments rather than prioritizing patient progress. After my primary therapist here left found it difficult to pick another, and instead saw two different therapists. My mistake, eventually neither was fully invested in me or my getting better. I do agree with another reviewer earlier who said good enough to not have pain to do daily chores but not enough to get back to 100%. They eventually told me I should stop PT because they were worried about my insurance covering it (my insurance is fine btw and they could've bothered to check that earlier if they cared) and that a little bit of pain is always normal and oh I could always do other stuff like acupuncture if I was still in pain. I have been going to Rising Sun Physical Therapy for a few months now. The first day I met my physical therapist, Simone Vienneau, I was completely defeated by the pain in my lower back. I was angry, upset, and constantly hurting every day. I remember thinking, "I will always be like this. There's no way anyone can help me." Fortunately, I was wrong. I began physical therapy twice a week with Simone. After that first assessment, she knew exactly what I needed and how to help me. I felt very comfortable with her during my appointments. Simone is gentle, understanding, and full of positivity and encouragement. She taught me various stretches to do at home and work to begin strengthening my muscles. We talked about taking small steps every day to achieve the long-term goal of being pain free. She has given me all the tools I need to continue my healing process. In addition to this, the work she did during each session left me feeling like a brand new person. I remember feeling like I was walking home from my appointments in someone else's body. Someone who was pain free! We recently sat down and went through the same questions Simone had asked me on that very first day. I was blown away by the progress we have made! I felt like crying. I used to feel so helpless. I sprained my shoulder from volleyball and after resting wasn't making it any better, I decided to give PT a try and I sure am glad I did. I still continued playing volleyball with an arm brace, but after a few months with Simone, I've been starting to play without my brace and it honestly feels amazing. Not completely back at 100%, but getting there. Simone taught me so much about that part of my body and gave me a good amount of exercises to do on my own at home and even recommendations to have a better work setup. I was referred to Rising Sun after spraining my ankle. I wasn't sure what the recovery time would be, but I am pretty active and wanted to make sure I was going to heal properly. I was treated for what the orthopedic surgeon diagnosed as most likely a frozen shoulder (limited mobility and sharp shooting pain when moved in the wrong way or direction). The surgeon gave me a cortison shot into the shoulder and advised me to seek physical therapy. I figured I'd try Rising Sun because of the good reviews. I've had physical therapy for bad whiplash years ago and my experience was that it improves mobility, but is not that great for addressing pain. In any event, I figured let me try a different place (nothing wrong with my prior place, just the pain issue wasn't helped as much as I'd hope). In any event, I first had Genevieve, who was professional and knowledgeable (and insanely fit). Unfortunately, despite a number of different exercises, where my mobility improved, but my pain, not so much. Genevieve pondered my lack of improvement and recommended Arlene, who knows cranial sacral therapy. I wasn't expecting much and it seemed a little weird (extremely gentle movements), but, wow, what a dramatic difference. I loved Arlene's treatments. Plus, she is lovely, kind, funny, and has great healing hands. After six or so treatments, I felt so much better. I really also appreicated that Genevieve, who was downright capable, referred me to Arlene, who she thought might be a better fit for my condition--that is a sign of someone who cares more about her patients than her ego. The only negative is the office space, which is small with little equipment. If you're used to fancy equipment and roomy spaces, this is not the place. My practioners, however, were excellent. My experience at Rising Sun Physical Therapy has been remarkable. I went to PT with lower ab pain and pelvic pain after an infection that prevented me from doing my normal activities. Bettina recognized the issues as an internal organ movement problem and massaged my stomach and organs for 10 minutes. My pain shifted and lessened in intensity right away. They also worked with me to find exercises that relaxed my pelvic floor and gave my internal organs space. The staff at rising sun are very attentive, and I enjoy coming here every week. When my cast first came off, I had very little mobility in my wrist. Bending the slightest in either direction was a challenge because my wrist was very stiff. Over the past month and a half, the exercises given to me by my physical therapist, coupled with the general ability to move for day to day activities, have dramatically improved my mobility and ability to bear weight. While I may still have a long ways to go from a weight bearing perspective, the mobility of my wrist seems to be about 80% back to normal. read more

I worked with Bettina over the course of 4 weeks after suffering from pain and numbness in my left arm. In addition to analyzing my work station(and how it is slowly killing me) she taught me a number of exercises to build strength and improve my posture which help to eliminate the pain. Thanks to her consultation I was able to make several adjustments to my work station that reduce the likelihood of straining my arm again and mean less pain during the day. She also gave me a ton of tips for other situations, such as how to improve my running/biking, how to sit better when not at work, and even how to reduce the risk of nerve strain in meetings. Today was my last appointment and thanks to her, when doing our final assessment I scored much better than I did Day 1 and left the office pain free. I still have a ways to go in building up strength in my back/shoulders to get completely out of the woods but I feel as though I have the tools to make this happen now. read more

They were friendly and usually very prompt with appointments. I didn't like that Priscilla took a lot of notes during our appointment; it felt like she wasn't paying much attention. Both Priscilla and Bettina are quite good at using hand massage to alleviate pain. I felt that they were correct in their diagnosis for me, and they helped me recover my strain to the point where it didn't hurt to do daily activities, but not to the point where I could rock climb without pain. For that, I found more strenuous physical therapy at another location ideal- another location used ultrasound and weight machines instead of hand massage only, stretching and the bands. read more

I came here after reading other positive reviews posted on yelp. I have had some back pain and noticed something wasn't right with my rounded shoulders and movements involving my scapulas. I came seeking some help figuring out HOW I was moving incorrectly and HOW I could correct these bad habits. I paid $199 for an initial orientation followed up by one appointment for $99. I was placed with one of the newer physical therapists which didn't sound ideal but I ran with it. During my orientation she had trouble identifying what I was doing wrong as I performed the assessment movements - something was weird with the way I was engaging my back muscles. She recorded me to further examine my movements to which she said she would report back to me with a more in depth analysis. After performing some other assessments she concluded that I had weak lower traps and gave me some cookie cutter exercises to take home and practice. I came back the following week for the next appointment. She went over the exercises she recommended for me again, but only once, before saying she was still working on analyzing the video. I struggled to comprehend the movements of the exercises she recommended and have since struggled to continue to properly perform these exercises at home - when you perform something once, it is difficult to instill that mind-muscle connection. I gave some thought about coming back in, but to pay another $99 for a session that didn't last 30 minutes and for her to show me exercises just once seemed like a waste of money. It would have been nice to practice these exercises she recommended a few more times. If that were the case, I feel as if I may have see the benefit of seeing results and wanted to come back in for more. Oh, and I never did get the analysis of the video she promised. I have been a patient/client of Rising Sun PT for several years resulting from a strained back. Bettina helped me back to better thoracic spine health than before. This allowed me to continue an active lifestyle including longer distance cycling. I then developed a pain down my calf which could not readily be stretched out. Moriah then stepped in to provide Deep Tissue Laser Therapy which fully addressed the problem after about 8 sessions. The only drawback was the need to go there multiple times per week.
