My husband and I have always been a bit shocked at the prices yes. So we have not shopped here much over the past few years. But. Not wanting to spend another $50 on lunch at the usual places in town we decided to grab some tuna salad today and eat outside. I bought an Asian salad with noodles and peanuts and carrots and incredible dressing. I swear, this was the best salad I've had in months if not years. I'm not kidding. Even the carrots stood out, were different. Delicious. The fennel is 2 or 3 times bigger than fennel at the grocery stores, $4.99 (usually about $3.99 at the others) 4 kinds of plantain chips. Fantastic low sugar pineapple soda from Mexico. Beautiful corn. After eating this food today at a picnic table over on Pemaquid Pond, we are doing a complete reversal and going to start shopping here a lot more. Yes it's expensive but vegetables do taste different, esp when they're not flown in from far away. And the attitudes of the employees is joyful and welcoming, such a good feeling. I live in metro Atlanta GA., but have a friend who lives just one mile from Rising Tide. She is 103 years old, and recently recieved The Boston Cane Award for being the oldest living resident in Daramiscotta ME. Well someone so special deserves a special surprise! So I had this desire, but what could I do with it?I I got on line, and decided to call Rising Tide, I spoke with their front desk manager Kate, who is fabulous by the way, and within no time she jumped on board my bandwagon. They don't have a delivery service, but another wonderful employee said she would be happy to deliver my gift. Within an hour they put together a lovely gift bag for me. Fresh flowers, a bottle of red wine, an array of organic chocolates, a yummy creamy cheese, specialty crackers, grapes, and a lovely card. Kate even wrote my personal sentiments inside the card for me. In about one hour they took my desire to do something nice, and brought my wish into fruition. Talk about angels on earth!! Kate accidently forgot to charge me for the grapes, and wanted to pay for those herself. I can never say enough about the employees of Rising Tide Co-op and their hearts for service. Bravo my friends!! Thank you for all you do!! You deserve acknowlegement for just being you! You can bet if I ever make it back to your area, Rising Tide will be my first stop! I literally just hooked up my ev to charge. I would not normally stop here at all but I needed to charge my ev. A store associate approached me asking over and over what I was doing and identifying himself as a store associate over and over. I had literally just hooked up my ev to charge and paid and the light was blinking showing it was charging. There was no reason for genuine confusion. He was obviously just harassing me. I couldn't even get out and walk my dog because I was so afraid of his bizarre behavior. read more

Very unhappy about Rising Tides decision to discontinue the Wednesday 10% off Seniors Day. I was told they were only offering to the " needy" such as EBT cards etc. Since when do They think Seniors no longer need the 10% off one day per week? Many Seniors in Mid coast Maine struggle with keeping their financial heads above water most of us on fixed incomes barely over the poverty income limit for government assistance! Very bad move and not a good way to treat seniors. I am boycotting Rising Tide and will not participate in their Co-op fees again. Luckily seniors are still welcomed on Mondays from 8-9am for 20% off food items at Ocean State Job Lot and Dollar Tree store. Seniors are clearly second class citizens who have been relegated to buying canned green beans and canned hams at Ocean State and Dollar Tree Shame on you Rising Tide Co-Op! read more

Expensive.Very expensive. Organic raisins $6+ per lb. I didnt buy thosse. Their specials can,be ok.Not my,goto store for bulk or organic. I prefer Natures Harvest in Augusta or Uncle Deans in Waterville. RT morphed into a pricey venue.The people are nice but they must cater to a non local crowd mostly. Produce section is big. Sometimes it looks, a little tired. I dont buy their cooked food.Their artisan?_bread is super high and rather small. I did take up baking myself. Its not rocket science. read more

Cute little natural food market. Lovely alternative to Hannaford. The prepared food is a really nice option when you're feeling lazy but don't want to totally give up on life and go to McD's. There are always meat, veggie, vegan and gluten free options which is a feat in itself. The groceries are really superb and many local options. The only issue I have is the cost. It is just so expensive. I understand why it is so costly but damn if the total cost of a trip doesn't look like a phone number it's so big. Looking for a more personal and local approach to grocery shopping? This is a great place to find local and seasonal goods. Organic, natural - you name it. The bread is pretty tasty though you'll pay extra for produce. If you're looking for a fancy cheese, go here - great selection! They're also now firing wood grilled pizzas in the parking lot twice a week - well, someone is, I think the market just lends them the space. I haven't tried one yet but plan to soon - they grill them on Thursdays and Saturdays I believe. read more

What a great place. This town has been needing a resource like this for years, and I regret not checking it out sooner. The store is not huge, but they have some of everything, so it really feels like one has a lot of options. The prices are, of course, a bit high, for some items (tomatoes, pre-made sandwiches, etc.), but that comes with the territory. And the prepared food is quite good, and looked/smelled very fresh. I especially like the many choices they offer in the "self serve" buckets: from grains, to coffee to candy- it's all there. I cannot see myself going through town ever again without making a stop (a spot I thought was solely reserved for Round Top Ice Cream). read more

As someone else noted, good option from Hannaford. They had fresh pesto, which was what we needed for our pasta, which we also got there. The bread selection was good and fresh and my wife got a sandwich which although not at all large for the $8 bucks we paid, was tasty. That said, you can get all the same pre-packed organic goods up the road at the Hannaford's and while I do like supporting small businesses like this, the mark up is a bit much. Still, great to have as a fresh and tasty option when up on the Maine coast. read more

Amazing place. Fresh baked goods second to none, fantastic service, very kind, down to earth employees--and something of a gathering place for the funky, hippie-leftist bohemians of this neck of the woods--and there are a lot of them--it's always busy here, but not in a stressful way. Only caveat: it's ultra expensive--expect to pay a third to a half more than you would at, say, whole foods. That said, quality of local/organic/artisanal produce is off the charts, and they are run cooperatively. Since finally giving up on the store I used to shop at in Freeport, Rising Tide is absolutely my favorite natural foods store in Maine. It's not huge, but it is absolutely packed with good things. There is an emphasis on locally produced products, especially in the produce section. The store is always clean, and the scents of the foods cooking in their kitchen are always intoxicating. Every employee I've spoken with has been kind, helpful, and knowledgable. My favorite section, if I had to pick one, is the bulk department. It's by far the best maintained and spacious bulk section of any store in the Midcoast area. Prices are average, with some excellent sales on occasion. read more

They were very willing to work with us on the menu and all the logistics that go with catering a wedding on a small family owned island close to Damariscotta. Rising Tide is an amazing co-op. With their new location they have everything anyone could want and it is all in an inviting atmosphere. They have great selections of granolas and grains and also many local brews and foodstuffs. The service is great and everyone is there because they believe in the mission, I have yet to find an employee there who considers it "just a job" I recommend Rising Tide to anyone and everyone. If there is something to gripe about though, it would be the fact they do not accept American Express, but I understand the fees are higher and that this place is a Co-Op so that makes sense and is excusable. read more

I am all about supporting small business and buying local. I also understand and have accepted the fact it can be expensive to eat healthy. I grow organic in my garden and buy organic a lot of the time. Rising Tide has a great selection. However they are completely and totally way over priced for the majority of their stock. The pre packaged goods they have are 30 to 50-% then the Hannaford just up the road. The organics are much more expensive then any organic farm stand in the area. read more

This place has changed. It used to be a great go-to for all things natural and local, but the quality, friendliness, and co-operative nature has quickly declined. It claims to be a community-centric market, yet many workers there seems pressured and unhappy and the members get very little say with regards to anything on this "member-owned" store. The hot-bar is greasy and no longer seems like it serves much fresh food. I have purchased cold salads that were prepared there, only to discover that they were spoiled when I attempted to eat them later that day. You can still get good vitamins there, but I go to farmers markets and the new butcher shop for fresh food. Canned and boxed organic stuff is cheaper at hannaford or yellowfront and the selection is comparable. read more

Fantastic local coop. Their local produce and meats and fish are excellent. It may well be the nicest coop in Maine in a fairly newly renovated building designed for the purpose. Great selection of brewing supplies, including yeast for making wine or hard cider. The kitchen produces healthy ready to eat foods for a guilt free lunch. read more
