At first I was impressed with the service and the surgery I got from Dr Mostaffi but then his news quickly became bad news. When he initially showed me my x-ray my fractured wrist area was in the fore front and by putting in a metal plate and screws he told me it would fix the fracture and hopefuly keep me from having arthritis down the road. Then after the sutures came off and a second set of xrays taken it was revealed that that fracture was not in the forefront but in the back part of my wrist and in order to fix it I would need a second surgery on the backside of my wrist to fix it. That really pissed me off because now I have a scar forever and if he did it right the first time then I'd give him a different rating. If you ever need a surgery get a second opinion somewhere else cause it can be a life changer. Otherwise the staff is professional. read more

I took my 8 year old to Dr. Crisswell after a large heavy chair fell on his toe. Dr. Crisswell was very nice with a great bedside manner and he was perfect with the hurt boy. He also did not advocate an xray because he said he didn't want unnecessary radiation. I really appreciated that. When I called i got an appointment right away which was great. When we got there however, we had to wait a long time in the exam room. In fact is was just about an hour. I thought that was a bit excessive. Other than the wait, it was a very positive visit. Easy parking in the back and make sure to bring a sweater because the waiting room is an ice box. read more

I recently had carpal tunnel surgery performed by Dr. Mostafi. In my 67 years I have never had such a positive experience during before, during and after a medical procedure. Staff is genuinely friendly. Appointment reminders were great. The office environment is upbeat and friendly, little wait time and navigates the Covid situation seamlessly. It is obvious that the staff enjoys working with each other. Dr. Mostafi is the best. (Check out his credentials) He explained the procedure. I had it under local anesthesia. I took Alleve while still numb in anticipation of postop pain and I am not exaggerating when I say I had none. This is tough bc I love Dr Mostofi however his assistant isn't nice and that's why the 2 stars. His assistant is the face of his practice and she treats people mean especially the elderly. She's passive aggressive and when you're dealing w people who are hurting in pain you're suppose to be nice. Blanca the assistant also send surgery paperwork late and I have missed out on my surgery too many times bc of her. Remember, passive aggressive. She's nice then she's mean. The doctor was great however office is pure chaos. I have a POA for my elderly grandma who doesn't speak English however they didn't allow me to go into the appoint with her so I have zero idea what is going on. I've tried calling the office numerous times to see if we need to go back what she needs to do next etc etc and I haven't received a single call back. The worst part is every time I call I'm on hold for an hour. I even called the doctors assistant and left her a voicemail with no returned call. It's been three weeks and nothing. Recently spent some time here with Dr. Norquist. I broke my wrist / arm playing roller derby, and after an initial visit to the ER at the Huntington, all of my care happened at Risser. Both Dr. Norquist and Larry were professional, knowledgable, and dare I say, kind of fun! They easily laid out what I was to expect, how I was supposed to care for my cast, how to care for my arm right after I got the cast off... I was never in the dark. If any questions came up, they were easy to reach out to. The X-Ray techs were also a good time. They were gentle with me when my break was fresh, and always made me smile. Make sure you come with time to spare, because the lot is always full. Worth mentioning, on my way in to my last appointment, I called in to say I was going to be about (maybe) 5 minutes late, and the person who answered said, "Well, I don't know if the doctor will have time to see you then..." That was ridiculous. I mean, how many times have we all gotten to the doctor on time, and still sat in the waiting room for at least 15 minutes before anyone saw us!? I would have been mad if I didn't think it was so funny and ironic. read more

There are some good doctors here, but the office management is too often snippy and arrogant. I was a patient for several years before being told, while scheduling an appointment, that if I was more than five minutes late the doctor would not see me. I reminded the staff person that I had NEVER been late. Her response was, "The doctors are busy." I informed her that I am busy as well, and perhaps I should not see the doctor if he made me wait more than five minutes? I then wrote a letter to the lead doctor expressing my concern that their office practice appeared to be inconsiderate to patients and a bit arrogant. He never bothered to reply. There are many fine orthopedic doctors in our area. Find one of them. I did. read more

Ample free parking behind the practice. The waiting room was a bit cold as they blast the AC. I had to wait an hour on a busy Friday afternoon to see Dr. Mostofi for my wrist pain by the base of my thumb, but it was worth it for his expertise. They have an in-house X-ray lab, and the facility was clean with courteous staff. I did shoulder surgery with Dr. Gregory Northrop in early 2015. I regret that I did. I was told that it will fix the pain due to the tear in my rotator cuff. I should have contemplated more before doing such an intrusive operation. I would have given less less than zero star if I could. I still have pain on a daily basis although I followed all the instruction he gave me. I went back to Dr. Northrop for follow-ups, but I do not think he had any solution for the ongoing pain. He asked me if the pain is "livable". Of course it is not! Some told me to sue, but I refrained from doing so. I hope he enjoyed most likely the many thousands of dollars. Please be careful with your shoulder and think twice before rushing into allowing anyone do a surgery on you. read more

I have had the best back surgeon (Dr. Pradhan) and pain management specialist at Risser. I can not say enough good things about Angie, Dr. Mabasa's assistant. She is always so friendly has gone above and beyond the call of duty dealing with my insurance company. I have had my share of health issues and my insurance company has been so difficult to deal with and get approval from. Angie's persistence has enabled me to get my prescription covered when my insurance company is not covering pain meds. Thank you, thank you Angie for all you have done for me. You deserve more than five stars! You are my hero! If you are looking for the most knowledgeable, professional, caring pain specialist don't hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Mabasa. I wish I had switched pain doctors sooner. Dr. Mabasa truly cares about my health and pain issues. She has tried both conservative measures and pain meds which I am grateful for. Doctor Myers also works hand in hand with Dr. Mabasa and does injections. He is also the ultimate knowledgeable professional. I had such a great experience and great results! I saw Dr. Amir Mostofi for a bad case of tennis elbow and needed to start playing as soon as possible to get ready for a tennis tournament. If I could give zero stars I would. My experience with this practice and with Dr. Mostofi was unprofessional in all ways. The doctor didn't not provide adequate information to help me heal a dislocation and when I tried to follow up multiple times, I received no response. At my first visit, I was told my hand would heal on it's own and if I didn't make progress to come back. I didn't make progress, so I went back and only then did the doctor provide instructions on hand exercises I should be doing. At that point, I had lost 6 weeks recovery time. I raised concerns and finally asked for my last bill of $100 to be forgiven since I had not had a response from anyone, after seven attempts and had received poor treatment, and the office manager, Debbie refused. What a small kindness they could have done given the extremely poor "care" I was given. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau, regarding the unprofessionalism of the staff, and the AMA regarding the poor information and instruction provided by the doctor. read more

I met Dr. Shah while hospitalized at Huntington Memorial. He was very patient in waiting for the swelling in my knee to go down so he could perform major surgery on my shattered tibia. He checked on me daily and kept me hopeful and encouraged that all would be ok. It took 8 days before he could perform the surgery. Once he started surgery he discovered my injury to be more significant than anticipated. Him and his team put in extra hours to ensure I did not lose my leg!!! I am ever so grateful. I am now 16 weeks out of surgery and making a great recovery. He continues to give me positive motivation and keeps assuring me that "we are in this together". His MA Serenia Ramirez is also very amazing at handling any and all questions and also making sure all my paperwork from State Disability to forms for work get filled out and completed with in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr. Shah as an orthopedic surgeon! I really was lucky to have had him come to my bedside in the hospital. read more

Horrible Medical Office and most staff with the exception of one receptionist for whom I cant recall her name during scheduling of an office visit. I have Blue Shield with a Primary Physician under Optum. Primary made referral to Risser for ongoing back pain from a 2+ year disc herniation injury @ C5 & C6 after rounds of chemo for an autoimmune disease flair up. Tried injection through Dr. Meyers that didn't help. Received Percocet and follow up maybe 4 refills taken half as much as prescribed followed by final visit stating no more refills with referral back to Primary who part of Optum policy is not able to write more than a 7 day RX. Final verdict one receptionist is ok. Place is aggravating enough to get in touch with a receptionist in first place. Long wait times in office and rooms. PA Mabasa is horrible and could care less about your circumstances, pain or self treatment advocacy direction unless you want to consider spending a small fortune on continued spinal injections that didn't help or the option my previous insurance (Kaiser) Dr's instructed but recommended against for my particular case which was spinal fusion. End of story do not go to Risser, my primary is changed as of 1/1/24 to start at begging with new Primary for referral to new Pain management within his network. P.S. Late edit : Request of Information for Risser was pleasant experience like the one receptionist mentioned initially. ROI extension was at least reasonably accessible and accommodating in order to get records to take to new provider in the new year read more

This facility has excellent team of expert doctors, but this place may need of better management and not to overwork the doctors, so they can have more direct time for followups with their patients, one on one and not going through a third person. I saw a doctor Pradhan there to go over the results of MRI's of my neck and lower back. He told me the report showed nothing wrong and that there was no reason for my neck and back pain. He suggested I might have fibromyalgia and to see a rheumatologist. NONE of my symptoms corresponded to fibromyalgia. And when I got home and read the reports, THIS is what they said. In regards to my neck: Multilevel uncovertebral degenerative changes are noted resulting in HIGH-GRADE left C6/7 and moderately SEVERE right C6 C7 neural foraminal stenosis. In regards to my lower back: PROMINENT narrowing of the L1-L2 and L4- L5 invertible disc spaces. I did some research and these conditions can absolutely cause back and neck pain. Also, when I mentioned the genetic malformation at the base of my spine that caused it to be unstable and more prone to problems (that I was told I had since I was nine years old by every other back doctor I've seen over a 49 year period) he told me it wasn't there and couldn't be causing any problems. To say that I felt completely invalidated by the DR in regards to my pain would be an understatement. It even felt like he was suggesting that the pain may all be in my head. I will not be going back there again at least not to see THAT orthopedist. read more

I was referred to Dr. Heinen by my primary doctor for arthritis in my knees. I have had two hip replacements due to osteoarthritis and had heard from a friend that she had gotten relief from gel injections. When I had my first appointment, Dr. Heinen had x-rays taken of my knees and said that my arthritis was mild, that there was still space between the bones and I would be a good candidate for the synvisc injections. He only likes these injections as they are natural, made out of rooster combs. His office would seek approval from my insurance. When my insurance initially denied the injections, their office immediately appealed the decision on my behalf - without my asking! - and very quickly got approval. Once they were approved, they were able to schedule the injections very quickly. The actual injections were a positive experience. Dr. Heinen was calm, gentle and answered all my questions and concerns. I highly recommend him and his staff for going above and beyond expectations. read more

I have seen Dr Northrup for Shd rotator cuff tear, Dr Mostofi for both thumbs replacement and presently Dr Criswell for bunion and hammertoe repairs and they are all excellent in professionalism and expertise. I have gone to both the Pasadena and Arcadia offices and I was taken in no more than 5 min after my appt. Recommend Risser completely and also the Risser Surgery Center where I have had all my surgeries. So much better than the run-around you get at a hospital. I know something about quality medical care being a retired physical therapist for 57 years. I decided to do this review after seeing a considerable amount of negative reviews and wanted to show that there are patients out there who are more than satisfied and happy that we have quality professionals in our community. Find another place to go for pain management. I tried making an appointment in January online as suggested when you call the number. No one ever checks those or got back to me. I followed up weeks later only to be told the earliest I could see the Dr. was in June. I stupidly waited and finally saw Dr Myers who speaks extremely fast and is hard to follow. He suggested another MRI which I had done pretty quick then had a follow up phone consult with him the same week. He suggested a steroid injection and the wait continued. The admin process is ridiculous. Another 2 month wait while someone verified insurance and schedules the procedure. In that wait time a friend suggested another doctor in Marina Del Rey. Not ideal for me but they got me in, ordered an X-ray which I had done, had a follow up appointment and already got the injection. Total time for that was 3 weeks. Risser is not the place to go for pain management. An 8 month wait is INSANE! Can't really say anything about the Dr since I never had a procedure done but overall I didn't get the impression he was worth waiting that much time over. read more

I would highly urge anyone considering Dr Heinen and his team to go anywhere else. This team DOES NOT care about any of their patients. Especially the doctor himself. I was a first time patient and visited end of July for a possible torn miniscus. Came in for a brief visit where he wasn't able to view my MRI records due to an issue with the other company and was told to drop it off for his thorough review. I was prescribed a very strong pain medication which caused severe stomach cramps. I advised the staff and requested a substitute. The doctor never prescribed anything else nor did he follow-up. I dropped off physical MRI records for his review and a week later still no call. Had to continuously followup with his staff in which they told me I'd have to come in to get my results. I'd have to pay $150 again for what should be part of my incomplete first exam. Secondly, I no longer have insurance so this visit would cost nearly several hundreds of dollars which is unnecessary. Dr Heinen is GREEDY, and simply doesn't care about his patients. read more

Dr. Northrop finally came into the room and just kinda sat there, pulled on my leg a few times, sat back down and said to take aspirin... lol.. He said he was going to have the front desk call me to schedule a cortisone shot... that was on the 5th. After th 13th rolled around and still no call, in pain the whole time, I finally had to make multiple calls on my own to get someone to call me back. I decided come back to this office after I suffered a new injury. I had been here 2 years ago and had a positive experience. A lot has changed in 2 years. Dr. Criswell is still a great doctor and gave me all my options. But this negative review is for their office. With my current new injury I knew I couldn't walk and would need a temporary handicap placecard. Prior to my appointment, I downloaded the DMV application for the placard and filled it out. After my appointment, I asked the assistant if Dr. Criswell could sign it. She replied that they have their own forms. Their form is the same exact form that I had already completed except with the Dr's signature and a charge of $15. Let me remind you that the DMV charges $6 to process the application. Risser Ortho is charging more than 2 times just for a signature. What can I do? I needed the placecard so I paid the $15 for the signature. My total price for a handicap placecard was $21. ($15 from Risser and $6 from DMV). I also needed a doctor's note to place a hold on my gym membership. The assistant at Risser said no problem. 1 week later I got the letter plus a bill for $10 for the admin fee, what ?????. No one mentioned a fee nor did I see any posting of these fees. I'm so mad, this place was great 2 years ago, now I won't ever go back. It's a Damn shame.... read more

If you don't mind waiting months for an appointment, having repeated voice messages to physician assistants ignored, or waiting for 20 min + to get someone at the front desk to answer the phone, this place is for you. Doesn't matter how competent the doctors are, the office experience ruins it. Still waiting for a proper review of my MRI taken which was taken over a month ago(!). After a severe foot injury in January and living in excruciating pain for months, I was referred here for pain management. I waited two months for my appointment day to arrive. I drove 1.5 hours from Leona Valley to get here for a 2:30 appointment. I arrived 6 minutes late. I was told I would not be seen as I was 6 minutes late. I explained that I drove 1.5 hours with severe pain in my right foot, which was excruciating. It didn't matter. They refused to see me. In all my years working in patient care as an RN, I've never encountered such a lack of empathy, lack of grace, and such an utterly callous response. My Medicare advantage plan referred me to this organization. If I had a choice, I'd find another Orthopaedics provider. They have at least 2 dozen doctors practicing in this group. The doctor I was assigned was nice enough. Too soon to tell if he's a good doctor. My complaint is that the support staff doesn't like to answer the phone. They do not turn off their off-hours message on a timely basis. When you get through, message says they are busy and will call back when they can--don't leave another message. I have Medicare and a good secondary, can go anywhere I want, but one doc at Risser had been strongly recommended to me by my physical therapist and so I tried to make an appointment. And tried. And tried. Over two days and wait times that approached an hour for the reservation desk - which also cut me off one time. So I guess Risser's so busy it doesn't need new patients. Good for them, bad for us. I got an appointment with a first-class specialist at a competing group after a five-minute hold time. read more

So incredibly disappointed. Went in for plantar fasciitis and was given the most scant attention possible. They took an x-ray of only 1 foot (not both even though I said that both hurt but that one was better than the other). Saw the doctor and was told I indeed have plantar fasciitis and tight calves and to stretch them out. Then he me a sheaf of papers and told me to follow those exercises. He didn't work with me to set up a plan to relieve my pain or problem or explain how to avoid it in the future. He made it perfectly clear that he couldn't be bothered to help me and was pretty dismissive. I tried to stop him as he was half way out the door and asked what I was supposed to do and he just pointed at the papers he just handed me. What a huge waste of my time. read more
