The food here is so incredibly yum - the interior/exterior concept is absolutely gorgeous & super fun to do little photo ops with. Service has always been amazing every time & everyone is super knowledgeable of the menu. Modifications can be made to make your food more to your taste & I can't recommend the street corn enough!! I have returned a few other times to simply retry their drinks - I was most excited to get their margarita flight & found that none of them tasted like margs, simply flavored water. If you order any drinks that are stand alone, you can actually have an alcoholic drink it appears. That would be my only note for improving - as we ordered 3 different marg flights to test & swap & they were one of the selling points & did not live up to the hype.

Stopped into Rita's for a quick margarita and be on our way. The space was bright and open with a very fun vibe. We sat at the bar and were greeted before we even hit the stools. Our orders were taken as soon as we had a chance to look at the menu and the drinks came up immediately along with a basket of chips with salsa. I enjoyed the Spicy Rita I ordered. It had a serious kick in the face heat to it that caught me off guard but I loved it. Didn't try the food but would absolutely recommend this place for a margarita.

Pork taco was good. Others, not so much.

This was fine. The cheese dip and pork were the best part. I didn't like the chicken at all. The shrimp was a little too fishy flavored which sounds odd but it is what it is. Guac had too much lime.

The best part of this place is the patio. I think I've only sat at their patio whenever I visited. It's normally busy and we usually have had to wait for like 30 minutes before getting seated. Their margarita flights are fun to try. They also seem to have a rotating menu that changes throughout. I had tacos with sweet corn rice and that was pretty tasty.

Friday at 5pm seems to be a great time to slip in with out waiting. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the summer weather. The waitress was great. She checked on us and we never had to wait to get service. The margarita flights are amazing!! They're so beautifully presented!! I am not a margarita person but this place really sold me on margaritas. The queso flight is what brought me in the door though. I love it. The variety is fun to try and they're all delicious! I ordered the rice bowl and the sauce is amazing. I could eat it every day. I don't think I can try other entrees (on future visits) because I would be disappointed if I didn't get the rice bowl! The ice cream taco is so fun and yummy!!! It was perfect for a hot summer day on the patio. It's not the usual ice cream taco from an ice cream truck. It looks like it was definitely crafted here! I want to come back for the churro tower! I want to devour it!!!! I'm starting a summer 2022 bucket list and that's the only thing that will be on it.

This place is walking distance from our place and the first time we went to Rita's we were not impressed. Today we decided to give it a second try and it was good. We got the birriatacos they were pretty good. We got the flight of margaritas, they were decent had to ask for an extra shot! The queso was a little to watery for my liking not sure if it was from the toppings or the meat. Our server was super nice. It was little awkward when we asked to be seated inside and the girl upfront told us there was a wait which was completely fine. So we asked if we could sit outside till a table became available and she told us no. Hence ended up sitting outside in 98 temp! Parking is very limited we actually ended up parking on the street on the other side because it was full. It's a very popular place and I'm sure people from des moine love this place but it was a bit disappointing.

I Ordered carne asada tacos & rice ... yummy It was very tasty and seasoned very well. The service was good and staff friendly and helpful, the place was great with outdoor seating & bar stools inside, I felt comfortable trying to figure out what to drink & eat!! Recommend visiting.

    Don't eat this....

This is not the place to go have lunch or dinner, they do not care if their food is bad because they stay busy no matter how tasteless the food is, or how hard the rice is or how burnt the meat. Now if you want to have a cocktail, drink all you want, they got good drinks, but when you wait 45 mins to be seated and then a other 27 mins for food to taste like crap and all they can say is sorry and give you the bill for the food you couldn't eat. Y'all don't waste your time or money on this fake Mexican food.

I have been to Rita's Cantina several times and I have mixed reviews. I want to love this place so bad because the outdoor vibe in the summer is so fun. I have never been during the winter months but when it is warm, it is all outdoor seating or completely open air on the inside - the inside is not very big, the main draw is outdoor seating. Also to note, parking is limited and you will likely have to find a spot on the street. So my favorite part about this place is the flights! - They have a flight of queso (yes it is heaven!) and multiple flights of margaritas. They also have a very extensive drink menu. My mom got the tropical flight and I got the garden margarita. All were very good! I actually haven't been very impressed with the entrees and food. I have been sick and my appetite is messed up so take this with a grain of salt. I got three tacos (shrimp, chicken, fish). The sauce on the tacos was very spicy and they were overload with pico in my opinion. Overall, I think this is a fun spot to get drinks and appetizers. But maybe I will give the food another try.

The food and drinks here are as exceptional as our waitress! We ordered the huge margaritas and started with the traditional lime, blood orange and the Yuzu. All of them were amazing. We also had the queso flight. Where has this been all my life?! The additions to the queso were perfectly matched and delicious! There is plenty of outdoor seating and spending the day on a sunny evening with a drink in hand is the way to do it!

What I found was a little gem off of one of the main roads in downtown Des Monies. Even before you enter this self described "Tiki Bar" you see all the brick buildings, and then you see an actual grass covered roof...yep that's the place and a really nice touch. The interior is equally cool and spacious, you are greeted by the bar area immediately when you walk in. To your right are comfy couches and instagram friendly neon wall signs, with that signature tiki touch of floral patterns and great lighting. The location is connected to a Asian food restaurant, so they get their food from them as you drink some of the most well crafted adult drinks I've had in a while. I came for happy hour on a Saturday 4:00pm-6:30pm. The drinks were basically 2.00 off with discounted food, the menu is limited to mostly chicken wraps and crab rangoons etc. I will say the portions were filling and very delicious. The star of the show was my El Colmillo, a tequila based drink with lime, orange juice, lime. The bartender did say it's all pre mixed, and that day she subbed the tequila with Casamigos, because the house tequila was out. Customer service was great, until it wasn't. Our server was excellent, until a guy came in off break and they seemed to have some tension. She really didn't have that same positive energy as before, otherwise an overall excellent experience. Pro Tip: Take a walk over to "Hello, Marjorie", it's a completely different vibe but drinks there are just as good...if not better. Go see Travis, he is 10/10 at "Hello, Marjorie".

Incredible flavors, theming - this is art and storytelling through cocktail. The ice cream on the cake was the sample ice cream flavors we got to sample. I'm not exaggerating to say this was also some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted. I'm legitimately and justifiably upset that I can't buy it anyway to have it again. The atmosphere is fun too, but the cocktails and the obvious time and passion that go into them are the draw. This is not a place where the theming outshines the drinks, I'd be blown away by these offerings even in a brightly-lit Chuck-e-Cheese. I will be back every single time I'm in Des Moines, and I hope it's packed with a waiting list because this kind of artistry deserves to be shared with everyone.

Most of the seating here seemed to be targeted towards large groups so there wasn't a ton of option for a party of 2. We did not have a reservation so there was only 1 high top area that was honestly super uncomfortable. I would recommend making a reservation if you want a chance to sit at one of the lower chair areas. The biggest issue was the service. It took over 20 minutes for anyone to come over and take our drink order. This is a newer spot so I'm hopeful things can improve. It was super loud and not the most inviting space. Some of the seating was a bit awkward with spacing. The drinks were small but I would expect that for a higher end cocktail. For DSM, I did think some of the drinks seemed a bit expensive. The drinks were okay but seemed pretty weak where they were super juice heavy. Overall I would probably not come back unless I had friends who haven't been and wanted to try it. Super bummed as I do think there is potential here but need to work through some of these issues.
