The project scope included reengineering our old, stucco fireplace mantle and adding complementary wall paneling. The team also installed crown molding throughout our family room and kitchen spaces and new baseboard throughout our first floor. Using a single concept image that my wife and I had tucked away a while back, Brandon and his extremely talented carpentry specialist, Jesse, collaborated with us to adapt those design concepts to our family room and created a space with which we are extremely happy. Brandon was very easy to communicate with over the phone and by text and he came to the house multiple times to verify measurements before the actual install. He also had us over at his shop to confirm materials and paint/stain color. Fun to see the working space and tools! Did not get any competing quotes but based on the scope of this custom build and what I know about craftsmanship hourly rates I think the price was a good value. They look better than the day I got them!!! She treated my home with care and respect during the removal and reinstallation. Please be aware you will be without a front door for a little over a week, she did seal up the entry with solid ply. She explained to me the multi day process of stripping, sanding, restoration, staining, varnishing and polishing; crafts-woman ship does take time in her offsite shop. She also spent a few days refinishing the frame and threshold onsite. She also recommended periodic maintenance service which she also offers. I am 1000% satisfied with her work. Jason checked in each morning and throughout the day, always keeping us in the loop. His keen eye for colors and values left us feeling confident in his suggestions given we were painting bedrooms different colors from the main house. Here is a recap of the process/our experience: 1. Greg came out to give an estimate. He was upfront and transparent (we have red oak floors) about staining the floors and how red oak takes the stain. Set our expectations for the process. 2. Scheduled a date with Greg. He stuck to the date and the timeline exactly as stated. 3. Greg came out before the project to test out some stains for me. He was patient and flexible during this process. Very helpful and knowledgeable. 4. The team started by covering doorways and shutters and getting the space ready to ensure the least amount of mess/dust as possible. 5. Greg communicated the time the team would be there and they were there at that time each morning. 6. He kept us updated throughout the process. 7. The floors were finished on time and they did a walk through at the end. I found Michael's cabinet co here on Yelp. I was very nervous to trust such an important job to…read moresomeone I found on Yelp but I had asked around and could not find anybody to do what I wanted to fix my cabinets. They all wanted to just paint them. I wanted them restored to the original finish if at all possible. We paid a lot for these custom cabinets 20yrs ago and really wanted them to be restored to look the same. Michael came out to look at them and told me he has never tried to do work like this before but he was willing to try and felt pretty confident he could do it. If we didn't like it we could always paint them after. It was a risk I decided I wanted to take. We could not wait any longer. 2 of our most used cabinets were severely damaged with water damage - one from a hand towel that had been hanging on it for 20 yrs that would often get damp from hand washing and the other our silverware drawer. They removed all of the damaged cabinet & drawer doors (leaving behind about half of them that had no damage as they were less often used and still looked brand new) and took them to their shop in Livermore. This made the job much harder as they then had to match the color to our existing ones. In addition our kitchen has 2 different paint colors so they had to create 2 different finishes - one a stain and one a paint. Linda, an employee of Michael was in charge of the painting and stain work and the artist who did the work on my cabinets in their factory. She showed us photos along the way and then came back out to reinstall the doors plus also repair the water damage we had on baseboards and cabinet sides that weren't able to be removed. She taped everything off in our kitchen to prep and then spent 2 days refinishing all of the rest of the damage. She was very careful and caused zero problems anywhere around her work. The finished product was absolutely 5 stars - could not have gone any better. I have delayed for way too long giving Michael and Linda credit for the work she did but the benefit to that is that I can now say after over a year (finished Sept 2024) of having the refinished cabinets in my kitchen they have held up perfectly and still all look absolutely brand new (helps not having kids living at home anymore!) I would 100% recommend you to trust Michael and his team to be honest, hard working and skilled crafts people for your cabinets. The finish was ruined over a large area and I was firmly in the doghouse with my wife. I found Jack Switala from Al Quality Refinishing, and he came out promptly to take a look. He was professional, straightforward, extremely knowledgeable, and gave a very fair quote. When he returned to do the work, the entire refinishing process only took about three hours, which honestly amazed me. Jack is clearly an expert at what he does--he's not just knowledgeable, he's truly an artist. He refinished the entire tub, and it now looks and shines like new. The surface is smooth, glossy, and flawless. No one would ever know how badly I messed it up. In addition to tubs, Jack also reconditions chipped, worn, and damaged plumbing fixtures, including sinks and tubs, which is great to know for future projects. I would absolutely hire him again (though I'm hoping I never damage a tub like that again). If you need refinishing done right, I highly recommend Jack and Al Quality Refinishing.
