We hired Greg and his team to refinish our red oak floors and replace our baseboards. The service they provide from start to finish is top notch. Here is a recap of the process/our experience: 1. Greg came out to give an estimate. He was upfront and transparent (we have red oak floors) about staining the floors and how red oak takes the stain. Set our expectations for the process. 2. Scheduled a date with Greg. He stuck to the date and the timeline exactly as stated. 3. Greg came out before the project to test out some stains for me. He was patient and flexible during this process. Very helpful and knowledgeable. 4. The team started by covering doorways and shutters and getting the space ready to ensure the least amount of mess/dust as possible. 5. Greg communicated the time the team would be there and they were there at that time each morning. 6. He kept us updated throughout the process. 7. The floors were finished on time and they did a walk through at the end. My husband is quite the perfectionist (one who would rather do it himself and have it be done right than hire out the work for fear it wouldn't be done the right way) and he was thoroughly impressed with the work done. I like a darker floor and they are difficult to do. We've had Greg do two homes for us. One 1940 and one 1920. He did a beautiful job both times. In the first home, we were there several years so we also had him come out and recoat the floors just before we sold. They looked brand new again. Greg, Albert, and Jose did a great job on refinishing our floors. We had 50 year old oak that had been under carpet for 20+ years. They removed carpet nails, filled holes and cracks, sanded, stained, and put 3 coats of varnish. The floors look great! They did a great job of keeping the dust contained. Each day they vacuumed and dusted. Each days they sealed the doorways to keep the fumes from the varnish contained. The crew also removed and installed new baseboards. Did a great job in dealing with rounded corners, air vents, and electrical sockets. They caulked and touch-up paint to complete the job. The room and hallway look so much better. Greg's Hardwood Floors is the continuation of Gary's Hardwood Floors, whose owner passed away. We were highly impressed with Greg Dennett, beginning with his first assessment visit. He's a clean cut, friendly person you don't feel uncomfortable with being in your house and quite knowledgeable of hardwood floors as he grew up in the business. The job at our house, built in 1961, was to restore the original hardwood floor and add more flooring, extending it into the kitchen and dining area. The old hardwood floor was covered with carpet (nails) for decades, spotted with pet stains, and damaged in many areas. Greg knew exactly what type of oak wood we had, detailed the process and timeline. There was no high pressure sales or hand waving promises. After considering other companies, we went with Greg even though he was not the cheapest (and not the most expensive either). Going with someone who was a specialist, and important, had an experienced job site staff was key. I drilled him with a lot of questions drawn from my lesson's learned due to a bad experience with a landscaping contractor. During and after the job, I confirmed his answers as true. His guys are experienced craftsmen. Everything was done professionally. Supplies were neatly tied up when delivered in advance of the job. They arrived on time and completed the job on time over a number of days. We observed their confidence and expertise. We decided to go with a dark stain. They stained a small section with our selection and then showed us a slightly lighter shade, which better defined the grain. We went with their alternative suggestion and glad they were concerned with our ultimate satisfaction rather then just contracting to spec. In the end, we were in shock and awe. The damaged boards were replaced and the new section blended in nicely. You can't tell the difference between the old and new boards. The dark color looks rich and modern. It looks expensive, but wasn't. The room smells fresh and clean, rather than stuffy with the old carpet. We're happy we chose a quality company. After experiencing some water damage caused by a domestic water leak i contacted Greg to get an estimate on replacing my hardwood floor for a 600+ sq foot living area. Greg was responsive and professional and also helped me complete the necessary mortgage company paper work to expedite the insurance payment process. The selection of a replacement floor to be overwhelming but we met at Dublin Carpets and finally selected an engineered Acacia product. Greg and his team including Albert were on sight days later starting to demo and install the new flooring. Wow! The new floor along with a a stair platform looks incredible! Everything from the new base boards, 1/2 round, and toe boards are perfectly matched and professionally and neatly installed. We bought a house in Fremont built in 1955 that had carpet covering hardwood floors. The home buying process was a rough one and we were anxious to get work done on the house before moving in. I scheduled four quotes for floor refinishing in the same day. Greg definitely impressed me with his knowledge. He was the only one (out of the four quotes that day) that walked into a room off the kitchen and could tell, from how it felt and from what he knew about homes from this era, that there wasn't hardwood under the carpet. Others had pulled up corners in one or two rooms and then written a quote for the rest of the space. Greg had suggestions for matching the style of flooring in that room to the rest of the house, and taught me about the different styles of flooring. He was able to start the next week, demo tile in an entryway and preserve the hardwood underneath, and gave suggestions for how to save money since the job ended up being much bigger than we had anticipated. Greg and his team were fantastic to work with. We had engineered hardwood installed in our family room, done over a concrete slab floor, 15 stairs to our 2nd floor and an upstairs hallway. Greg and his team recently refinished the hardwood floors in our kitchen, nook, family room and downstairs bathroom. The floors in the kitchen, nook and bathroom were put in by the builder, the family room we had put in about 8 years ago when we had the kitchen/nook floors refinished the first time. Our house is built on concrete slab so our floors are engineered hardwood. I had several quotes and one company that refused to even quote - they said they couldn't refinish the kitchen floors because they would "burn through" the wood. Greg's pricing was competitive and thorough - and there was no "nickel and diming". Four years ago I hired them to do my kitchen floor. I had to bring them back twice after the job to "fix" their work. The boards kept slipping and coming undone. A couple of weeks ago I decided to do two bedrooms and figured I'd give them another chance. I set an appt with Greg and he emailed me the day before to blow me off. Greg was always quick to respond to requests and changes in specs during the quotation process (and there were quite a few--from our side). His recommendations for materials, stain, etc were spot on--particularly when it came to choosing the lumber. We completely trusted his choice for lumber grade, width, etc and were not disappointed. Getting the subfloor level, installing in a very tiny space under the stairs and adding trim around the bottom of the stairs to blend were no small feats but the team seemed to take it all in stride. They were a pleasure to have in my home with their positive attitude toward the job and my family. At one point, my husband asked about a board placement that he didn't like (he felt the particular grain interrupted the "flow" of the other boards--DH can very particular) and Albert seamlessly replaced it the next day.
