Visited Rittman Orchards yesterday (7/11/26) and it was, in a word, DELIGHTFUL. The staff was friendly and helpful, the selection of apples and vegetables was nice without being overwhelming, and the whole thing couldn't have been easier to navigate. I took a day trip from Indianapolis to visit the orchard after discovering them on FB. I picked up some delicious Melrose and Shizuka apples, as well as some fresh raspberries, peaches, and tomatoes. The baked goods called my name; I had to purchase a Dutch Apple Pie and Lemon Crumb Pie. All of the above have already been tasted by my family and are delicious! This is definitely a trip worth taking and I will definitely be coming back to do some berry and apple picking with the family. Thank you Rittman! read more

Came here mid-June for strawberry picking. They post updates on their facebook so you can know when they are ready for picking! The strawberries were so sweet and fresh. I made an awesome cobbler. They had so many rows of strawberries, but the people working there were able to point to less-picked areas. Unfortunately, the raspberries weren't as robust at the time, so I wasn't able to pick any at the time. You aren't able to pick cherries, but they sell them at the market as well as a bunch of other produce, ice cream, baked goods, jams, etc and there's a winery next door if you need post-picking flight. Another really nice orchard, also a plus they have a cider brewery in the same location. They have apple cider slushees, plenty of homemade things to purchase as well as vegetables and tons of candy. We also found their baby section that had very unique toys all center around being outdoors for kids and infants. We really enjoyed our time here read more

Great orchard! We came here to pick apples at the end of September and arrived pretty soon after they opened at 9 am on a Saturday. You get a half bushel bag for $20 and can pick several different varieties. We filled our bag with jonagold, Cortland, and golden delicious apples! They also have a pumpkin patch where you can walk around and find the perfect pumpkin, already cut from the vine. Bring it back to the hut near the parking area and pay by weight. Didn't check out the market this time but it seemed to be bustling. Get there early on fall weekends for the best experience. read more

My husband and I love this place for pumpkin picking, apples, sunflowers and produce. They have the best sweet corn and anything we've ever had from them tastes delicious. They have baked items and other assorted food items as well. Their cider slushees are wonderful in the fall. We always love coming here. read more

First time coming here before heading over to the Bent Ladder. This place is a great, small farmers market. You can find a little bit of everything here. Staff here is friendly, prices here are fair, hours are reasonable too. Never too many people here so you can shop peacefully. I enjoy the varieties of honey! read more

I loved spending a Saturday afternoon here in June. Strawberry picking was something I had been wanting to do over the summer, and I'm glad I did because it made for a memorable afternoon. I'm not sure if I would have been willing to drive out this way typically, but we happened to be in neighboring Wadsworth and conveniently found that this place wasn't too far off. The U-pick option is really simple, and I was glad that I brought my own containers because it allowed us to head straight out to the field. There was plenty of signage to help us find our way, and the fields are pretty spread out, so even though there was a good amount of people there, I found plenty of space, and plenty of strawberries! When we filled our container, we headed back to the main building where we checked out. The berries were priced at less than $2 a pound, so you could really load up if you wanted to. They also have other items in the shop for sale such as candies and gifts. I should also add that although the raspberries weren't quite ready during our visit, normally they do have raspberries for picking as well. After checking out with our strawberries, we headed to the neighboring barn which offers ciders and wines. The barn is really cozy and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I liked that they offer both ciders and wines as a flight. I personally didn't like the wines they had, however I still had a good time enjoying the lovely weather and gazing out at their beautiful grounds and pond. I'm eager to make this a summer tradition, and I'd urge others to pay a visit as well. There were children there on our visit, so I would say it's family friendly, and don't forget to bring some containers if you want to avoid paying for the plastic buckets they offer. (if you don't want to read it here's the Sparknotes version: very poor customer service throughout here and the winery next door). I'm being brief in this review. There were other negative details I removed to be mindful of the length. This one service woman (let's call her Sunflower-Stuck-Up-Her-Butt-Woman) acted like I was wasting her time with my question. I came to pick sunflowers but read the times wrong online (my fault obviously) so when I asked her where to go pick sunflowers, her response was "we're closed today" and immediately tried to walk away from me. I asked for clarification and she proceeded to tell me that sunflower picking is only open on Saturdays and Sundays (I came on a Friday). I checked online again to see my error, and it turns out I had missed the sunflower picking time by a couple hours... so they WERE in fact open on Fridays for picking. That is not what she informed me. I showed her the website and said, "oh so you do have sunflower picking on Fridays, I just missed the time window?" and she had such an attitude. "Yes we're open on Fridays through this time blah blah...". With my work schedule, I can only come on Fridays and I wouldn't have known to return on a Friday morning by listening to this woman (I now do not plan on returning). I don't expect customer service employees to be overtly friendly, but even just a little bit would suffice! Rude attitude, not one smile, and acted like I was bothering her. My friend saw a bucket of fresh sunflowers and touched one saying, "oh they're REAL!" (which is a compliment, right? She believed them to be fake because of how lovely they looked) and Sunflower-Shoved-Up-Her-Butt-Woman was walking past and commented, "yEs tHeY areeee" so my friend smiled and laughed but the woman did not look at her or smile. She kept walking. She was actually mocking my friend! This happened right after we walked in! Also, the communication between the main store and the Bent Ladder Winery right next to it is lacking. Employees at these locations both told me completely different things regarding time slots for events and even contradicted what they had posted on signs there!!! The employees at the winery had poor customer service as well, but they weren't deliberately rude like Sunflower-Shoved-Up-Her-Rotten-Apple-Butt-Woman, just lazy, and as a result, rudeness was the byproduct. Side note: the items in this store are very overpriced. You can find similar locally-grown/crafted products more reasonably priced at many other orchards in the area. read more

The property is beautiful. The girls who provided our baskets were friendly. But the strawberries we picked in mid-June were simply awful, far worse than supermarket strawberries. Watery, no flavor -- too much rain, probably. I emailed to complain, hoping for an explanation, a partial refund, whatever. (You can't reach a live person by phone.) They promised to write back but didn't. I emailed twice more. No response at all. I feel deceived. They had to know that weekend's crop was lousy. They could have advised pickers to come back in a week for less waterlogged fruit. They could have sold the inferior berries at a discount. I did sample a few while picking. But after traveling 30 miles to Wayne County, I fooled myself into believing they just needed sugar. Now I don't trust Rittman Orchards. It was a bad experience this past weekend visiting this place . We have given them business a few times earlier. We brought two big baskets of peaches and majority of them were "rotten" on the inside and were "not safe for consumption". On making them aware they simply ignored our concerns leave aside suggesting a refund . We would never go there again as the quality of products we brought was extremely poor and they didn't seem to care. They can keep the refund. Thx DR MD read more

The good--This is by and large the most beautiful orchard in the area. The apples are large, plentiful, and easy to pick. We also enjoyed the tractor ride and corn maze. The bad--The address on their website doesn't exist in most GPS or maps programs, if you aren't local and hope to find the place I'd advise you use Rittman as the city. The ugly--Apparently their customers are a great inconvenience to them. No public bathrooms proved to be a bit of a slap in the face after our difficulties finding the place, especially since we drove an hour and a half to get there. Everywhere you turn both in the shop and on the property there are signs telling you where you can't go, what you can't do and what services they don't provide. It's a shame that their customers are such a dreadful annoyance. Large parts of the property are off limits to customers, thus you only have a few varieties of apples to self pick. Good businesses, including much of their competition, understand that customers are the lifeblood of their livelihood and go out of their way to welcome, accommodate and delight. read more

I am bummed to write this review... we live not too far from the orchard and it has been a fun place to go with family over the years. Our out of town guests love to get the OHIO experience here. Unfortunately the ladies at the front have ruined the experience for us the last two times. They are short and rude. Both of these times they were not busy (no line at the register) I asked very simple questions "do you have any more pies in the back" and "we would like some cookies instead, do we meet you down there?" Both times these different ladies act like we are huge pain and we are wasting THEIR time. Their arrogance that is hard to bypass. Basically super unkind. We usually spend a good amount in the store and on hard cider. There are other orchard options, and it seems these older ladies have forgot who the customers are. Word spreads quickly about encounters like these and I would hate for people to stop coming to your beautiful orchard because of these two. Also... there are all sorts of gnats in your cookie/pie case. read more

Overall: It's a fun outing that gets the family more in touch nature. It would be 5 stars if the signage to the fields was better. Selection: 5 stars. Depending on the time of the year, you can pick apples, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries (from what I remember). Customer Service: 3 stars. The people working there were nice enough, but the lower rating is because of the difficulty in finding the right fruit to pick. There are many different fields and it's confusing to find the one with the correct, ripe fruit. They should provide a printed map and/or clear signs around the fields. Prices: 4 stars. It's affordable depending on how many you pick of course. The self-pick blueberries are $3.45/lb and raspberries are $3.55. The store vegetables are relatively expensive but looked great. read more

I love this place! The apples here remind me of when we were kids and we could pick all the apples we wanted from a nearby private orchard. We just have a few problems. It is impossible to leave there without a lot of goodies! Oh their pumpkin pies, rolls, cookies! Etc. Everything smells like mother's house as a little kid. Cinnamon, apples and spices. Very disappointed! I have come here for years to pick strawberries, and although the counter staff is not overly friendly I have enjoyed coming here. They have much to offer. Over this past weekend (Oct 5, 2019) we arrived at 5:30 pm. We were coming to take Homecoming pictures with Wadsworth High School students. The view and landscape is stunning! It was their Fall fest weekend. As we were waiting for everyone to arrive, an employee was walking around asking people if they were planning on taking pictures. Several people said they were ( the kids dressed up was a clue!). The employee proceeded to say that they charge for pictures and that we needed to leave. One of the adults said they were going to purchase apples, pumpkins and go to the winery barn. He told them they still needed to leave. Was is most frustrating is that my son's group called and asked earlier in the week and they were told Homecoming pics were not a problem, but they charge for prom pics (weird!). I had two children attending Homecoming and due to the fact that we had to leave and figure something out, I missed my son's pictures!! I never even got to see his girlfriend as we had to take my daughter to her pics (she does not drive, he does). I also want to state that my opinion is....... this is a very poor business plan. Great apples, great fruit picking AND the fruit is wonderful. Bring your own container (basket or plastic) (they can weigh your container ahead of time and they will account for that when they weigh your fruit at the end). They are very accommodating. (I did read the one review where the person was ticked that there were no public restrooms....so yes, that is a negative - but it is an orchard!) (Also, I think their other products (not the fresh fruit) is over-priced but I don't go there for their OTHER products.) So I still give it five stars - for the apples and fresh fruit and the ability to pick your own. read more

Full disclosure: I'm a fruit snob. I've visited orchards all through Ohio in search of the best fruit, and whaddya know? The best wasn't that far from home after all. I wish I could tell you what makes Rittman produce so much better than the competition. But it IS better, to the extent that I find myself spoiled for other sources. Sure, there's orchards closer to my house. But whenever I think I might save the gas, I instantly think about how disappointed I'll be not to have the "real deal" from Rittman. In the end, I make the trip every time. The extra gas is justified because Rittman's prices are better than a lot of the orchards out there. Selection is better, too. Most orchards offer the same handful of apple varieties, for instance. Rittman has dozens upon dozens. It's like that for everything: peaches, berries, melons. There's always something new, especially at harveat time. Add to all this the bakery, the homey marketplace, the courteous and knowledgeable service, and the soon-to-open winery, and this is unquestionably the place to be for good food. An amazing and beautiful farm in Doylestown, Ohio. The property is on a hillside, which provides a gorgeous view of the surrounding area. They have a wonderful market. They have ice cream, cookies, pie, candy, teas, canning supplies and so much more. They are also in the process of opening a cidery and winery on the property. I have now had 3 bad encounters with the owners. I grew up going to Rittman Orchards and had fond memories before we moved back here 5 years ago. First, the layout, buildings, apples, and younger workers are great. I also like to support local businesses and buy fresh fruit and veggies. My experience with the owners is that they are mostly grumpy, rude and not very knowledgeable (despite his education). There are no public restrooms except for a porta john. None of the fruit is organic, so wash it well. The first bad encounter happened when we went for a hayride in the fall of 2014. The owner hopped on a soapbox and preached to the families, "You can tell Al Gore and other hooligans in Washington that this Global Warming thing is a bunch of nonsense! We lost plenty of stone fruit trees this past winter due to the cold temperatures". My first thoughts were, wow this farmer has no clue what climate change is, he's getting mixing politics and business, he's passing around false information about Global Warming and worst of all he's producing food I eat. I'm going to do something about that last one. The second negative encounter occurred with the wife in the store. I asked if there were any jams that didn't have added sugar, pectin or fruit juice. She smirks and says, "what people don't understand is that those sugars come from fruit and they aren't bad for you". She was referring to pectin and fruit juice, which are both much higher in sugars (albeit natural sugar) than they are fruit. I get it, she was talking to me in the plural 2nd person... clever. Lastly, tonight she made my 5 year old daughter cry by telling her she had to pick-up the little stuffed animals that she had gotten out of the bin. My daughter and son were actively playing with them at the time. Seriously, don't put out stuffed animals in a bin if you don't want kids to play with them. Why don't you wait to see if they or their parents pick them up before you make a kindergartner cry. Three strikes and you're out. I'll take my kids to Bauman orchards from now on. read more

I was there for the strawberry Jam-boree event 2 weeks ago. It was a fantastic day. The strawberries and raspberries were excellent both prepackaged and u-pick. There was an amazing crowd but no one was complaining. The food truck was great as was the store. It was a very family friendly event. They also had tours of their new building. Can't wait for the winery/cidery to open. It will be called Bent Ladder wine and cider and the facility for that looks incredible. We will be back! read more
