    Glob of Mousse

This is the second time I've been to Rive. Once for lunch, for my mom's birthday, and once for dinner for my mom's birthday. (Not in the same year). She really likes this restaurant, so that's where I come in; YELP Wise. The setting is lovely. Right on the river. Seating both inside and out, with hints of French influence. Like the cars in front of the restaurant, (See Picture), and a lot of the selections on the menu. We started with Pate De La Maison and Baked Brie Crostini to share amongst four. The waiter also brought over some bread, which came in handy ** My wife was excited for Moules Marinier {Mussels & Frites) and was glad to still see it on the menu. That, and the presentation, made her day. Although it needed more bread to soak up all the juice. Luckily we still had the bread basket **. My mother ordered the Steak Frites, but the Frites/Fries looked like they were left over from the night before. I had a fish special, Sea Bass I believe, and my brother had Duck Breast A La ' Orange. I tried a bite of all four, and everything was tasty. Mushrooms and Whipped Potatoes for sides, were the right choice. Dessert was a bit of a stumble. While the Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse was more like a dense glob of pudding, the Apple Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream was a better choice. The bill, with a few cocktails, a soda and a double espresso was about $225.00. These days, that's a bargain considering that a lot of times, going out to dinner Fairfield County is more miss than hit.

We went for lunch today knowing that we might be snowed if for a few days. The hostess was very nice and offered us two seats saying the one by the water would be colder. We sat there for the view and were immediately sorry we did that since the chill was definitely felt. A few tables had space heaters by them so they were better off. As soon as I saw a couple up by the fireplace getting up, we asked if we could change and that wa easily done. The French Onion Soup is wonderful. A nice and very deep broth with perfectly charred cheese made us nice and warm and the glass of sancerre helped also! I ordered the chicken sandwich but unfortunately the server misunderstood and brought out the chicken dish but I really wanted the sandwich because the combination of chicken, bacon and pear sounded wonderful so they quickly exchanged it and it was sooo good. I could only eat 1/2 after the soup so i am glad the other 1/2 will be dinner tonight. The atmosphere was so Parisian and looking out at the water while sitting by a nice fireplace made it even more enticing. The French sundae dessert is amazing- caramel and chocolate (and not from a jar I bet you) with pecans and vanilla ice cream with whipped cream is a large serving but my husband and I polished it off and ended the meal with some very good coffee brought in a small coffee pot so we could replenish without bothering anyone. I truly felt so good after our meal. Can't wait to return!

Although it was a chilly fall day, the outdoor seating was cozy and homey. The owner is so sweet and makes sure to make all patrons feel seen and appreciated. My French onion soup was amazing. The salad was also good. However, one of the olives was not pitted; the rest were pitted so I chomped down on the pit, ouch! I tasted some of the duck pate, which also came with gherkin pickles and mustard, so it tasted like an elevated Cuban sandwich. The crème brûlée has espresso in it and it was a tasty way to end the meal.

Both me and my guests have been going to Rive Bistro for years. Never had a dish i was disappointed with! Always served as described, perfected by their excellent kitchen staff! They also always have surprising specials to temp your taste! Service is always the best! Moreover, watching the swans, boats and rowers is an additional treat that adds to the wonderful ambiance!

My friend works nearby, so she met up with me for some tapas and drinks during happy hour, since my keys were next door. I wasn't hungry, so I just sampled everything she ordered. She had fried calamari which was beautifully presented, the hanger steak with green chimichurri, Eggplant Tablao (fresh mozzarella, fried eggplant, and warm tomato ragu), and the warm goat cheese with marinara sauce and pesto crostini. (Portion was super small) oh yeah, we also had the paellera consisting of chorizo, chicken, pork, clams, mussels, shrimp. The bread with olive oil was a nice simple touch as well. For drinks, we had a margarita and a Manhattan. The Manhattan was amazing...the fresh orange zest really elevated the drink and infused it with a bright citrus aroma right away. Definitely recommend trying it! We had the pleasure of chatting with the owner, Luis. You can tell he truly takes pride in his craft and creating an experience for his guests. He was welcoming and passionate about what he does. I'd definitely return again!

Barcelona was good, it has the potential to be great!…read more I've dined here a few times and every time the service is fantastic. The severs are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The general manager came around to introduce themselves and personally ask how the meal is and if they can be of any service which is always a very nice touch. The ambiance has a moody wine bar feel to the front half of the space and the main dining rooms are located in the back. Very nice and inviting. However the dining rooms are pretty packed with tables so it tends to get very loud. The food is good but often times inconsistent. For example the lamb chop I have had in the past was delicious, and during this visit it was lacking flavor. The meatballs were not my favorite in a previous visit but this most recent time they were absolutely delicious. Also pictured is the chicken thigh, and pork belly. The chicken thigh was plain but I think that's the point, it was cooked great. The pork belly was very yummy, I loved the lime/cilantro sauce it came with. We also ordered the half size parrillada done medium well. Aspects of this dish were good like the steak, others like the chicken and the chorizo were juicy and soo delicious. The pork chop lacked flavor and was very tough. The leeks were very tasty and the croquettes are always good! I am sure I will be back to Barcelona soon. I'm excited to explore their large selection of charcuteries!

We first attempted to dine here several years ago after making a reservation. Upon arrival, the parking lot was packed and chaotic, with numerous drivers seemingly unable to navigate the lot in an orderly manner. Rather than deal with the situation, we left and went somewhere else. Fast-forward to August 18, 2026. We were invited to a group prix-fixe dinner here, so avoiding the restaurant was not really an option. Unfortunately, the evening confirmed that our first decision to leave had been the correct one. I arrived at approximately 6:00 p.m. and pulled into the only available parking space. Another patron immediately began aggressively honking his horn. After I parked and got out, I asked what his problem was. He said he was concerned I was going to hit his vehicle, notwithstanding the fact that I was parked approximately four feet away from it. Another person then inserted herself into an interaction that did not involve her. I addressed that and moved on. I will leave the commentary about the clientele there, except to say that the atmosphere outside the restaurant was an unpleasant preview of the evening. The restaurant itself is apparently regarded as acclaimed. Based on what I was served, I cannot understand why. The opening meat and cheese board appeared dried out, as though it had been sitting uncovered for an extended period. The olives were submerged in what tasted indistinguishable from jarred giardiniera-style pickled vegetables. If the preparation was house-made, it nevertheless replicated the flavor and texture of a commercial jarred product remarkably well. The olives themselves were poor. Next came a fried cheese-filled ball that was extraordinarily greasy, to the point that oil was visibly running onto the plate. It was unpleasant to eat. The lettuce course again incorporated what appeared to be the same giardiniera-style pickled vegetables, adding little beyond repetition. The main course was paella with clams, shrimp, and baby octopus. The clams were overcooked. The shrimp tasted, in my opinion, as though they should never have been served. The rice was dry and crusted rather than properly cooked and integrated into the dish. A separate carving board was no better. The chicken was among the driest I have ever been served. The sausage was overcooked. The steak was both greasy and overcooked. There was no point during the main course at which I thought the food approached the reputation this restaurant apparently enjoys. I have eaten at many restaurants in Fairfield, and this was, without qualification, the worst meal I have personally had here. A restaurant that trades on an acclaimed reputation should be capable of executing basic food preparation competently. On August 18, 2026, this restaurant did not. The food was dry, greasy, overcooked, repetitive, and deeply disappointing from beginning to end. The worst part of the evening if all that was experienced, wasn't bad enough; was at the room was filled with flies that were buzzing all around that you had to wave away from the food while you were trying to eat. One star. Based strictly on my experience, even that feels generous.
