Eating here is a must when we're in Homer. It's a family-owned cafe, ingredients are always fresh and I love that they offer free coffee and daily specials. Sitting outside with their dogs on a nice summer day is always a treat! I tend to go with one of their rice bowls which usually include a protein, veggies, and an egg. My fiancé, who's Cuban, swears by their Cuban sandwich. He's even asked my parents to bring one back home to Anchorage on their weekend trips to Homer. We always dine in so we can chat with the owners (and pet the pups, not gonna lie) but people often take advantage of the drive-through option.

Delicious! A sign on the outside of the building said, Fast casual dining. I agree. There is inside and outside seating. Self serve coffee and water. Food was quick! My bagel was pretty darn good. My husband's sausage and gravy was horrible. It had very little meat in it and had a smoky flavor rather than a sausage flavor- it was weird and not in a good way. The complimentary coffee was also super watery. Given that you have to bus your own table, I was expecting service to be quicker than it was. We waited about 15 minutes for our food. There's only about 8 tiny tables inside (and a nice patio, which had no people in it when we were there,) so I'm not sure why the wait was so long for such simple items. I'd probably give this place another shot because they had some interesting items I've not seen before, but my husband will refuse to go back because his was so bad. Oh well..

We came down for a long weekend and ended up eating here twice because it was so tasty. Fast, friendly service. Great food, fresh ingredients, expansive menu. Not sure why my breakfast went so wrong ordered over medium eggs. I was served way over easy (raw) eggs. I had broke yolk and it was runny white. So I returned and asked politely for over medium. The cook took my existing eggs and refried them. Served to me still uncooked but crunchy. Free hint, when someone returns eggs cooked wrong, redo with new eggs. Worst $24 breakfast!

If you are in Homer looking for a delicious homestyle breakfast, COME HERE. My goodness. River Cafe has a versatile menu, excellent service, and the outdoor dining area is very nice and quaint. I just finished my Cowboy Skillet, and I swear I'm gonna be full for at least half of the day. Incredible meal!

We visited Homer today and glad we found this place for breakfast and lunch. The inside dining area is limited but on a sunny day they have more seating at the back. The dining area is clean and maintained. The food is good but a bit too pricey. After leaving we noticed that they offer drive thru if you are in a rush.

The locals love this place and it is a gem!!!Best breakfast/brunch in town! Biscuits and gravy are delicious! I am a southern girl and I know biscuits and gravy! Also tried the club sandwich and it's really great too! I highly recommend River Cafe! Food is wonderful every time and the staff is by far the best in town!! Anna, who served our group was truly delightful! They go out of there way to accommodate you, even when they are really busy! I have NOT found that to be the case with several other restaurants in Homer! They also offer Pre Prepared LUNCH BOXES! PERFECT to take on a long day of fishing or long day of exploring the beauty of Homer!! Highly recommend!! read more

We ate here for breakfast once and this was the only place for breakfast the rest the of the week. several lunches as well. The hospitality was every bit as good as the food including the reindeer sausage. That was a year ago. Booking vacation now and already have the River Cafe on the itinerary. Quaint little place run by friendly husband and wife team who live next door. Varied menu. We came for a weekday brunch. Believe they make their own bread. 3 of us loved the monte crisco, another had large serving of corned beef hash. Very solid choice! read more

My husband and I came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. We had a tour meeting at seven, so we arrived at River Cafe right as they opened at 6:30. My husband got the half order of biscuits and gravy, and I got a breakfast sandwich. Our food came out within a few minutes, and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and well made, and there were plenty of options for take out, if we needed something for the trip. We would definitely come back. read more

Our group tried here after our first choice was closed and we are glad they were! There are 3 tables inside the building and it was first come first serve. We were lucky to get a table. They offer a wide variety of options for breakfast and lunch. Our group ordered the moco loco, breakfast skillet, biscuits and gravy and the French toast. Food was delicious and came out super fast! We are traveling with our dog and haven't been very lucky with the weather for outdoor dining, so finding this gem of a place was so really nice. They have plenty of outdoor seating, all day breakfast and a great assortment of lunch options. My husband was so pleased with the corned beef hash, he had it two more times while we were in Homer. I had the biscuits and gravy, which were absolutely delicious. On my second visit, I had the lamb tacos, which were divine. The staff is super friendly, the service was fast, the price is fair and the coffee is free. Do yourself a favor and eat here whether your visiting or living in Homer, you won't be sorry! read more

Wonderful breakfast! This place is tiny but there is additional seating outside. We tried the Loco Moco and the breakfast Monte Cristo and enjoyed them both ... coffee is complimentary and the portions are tasty and plentiful, and the folks who run it are really nice. Would return! read more

So lucky to have found this cafe. Was so craving pancakes. Oh boy! Their sourdough pancakes were so light and fluffy. And,! It's was all you can eat. I wished for a second stomach so I could eat just one more bite . And, if you dine in, coffee and tea is in the house. I've never had that. We were visiting Homer and found this place! We loved the atmosphere of a mom and pop place! The customer service was above and beyond. The food was amazing! Big servings and great taste! Ate here two days in a row for breakfast. Go to for us was the Southwest burrito and Brad's burrito. Pancakes are all you can eat, which were amazing! Also, coffee is free just like the good ole days! Can't go wrong with this place! I would give more stars, but this was all that I was allowed. I would encourage everyone to eat here! read more

We were in town on a Tuesday from Seward to watch a track meet. Not too much open on Mon/Tue for breakfast, but the reviews for this place were good so we stopped. Don't judge the place from the outside - the food is excellent! Fresh food that is well-prepared and delicious. Free coffee if you're dining in. A real hidden gem! Man, oh man, what a great stop! We drove from Seward to Homer and decided to give this place a try based solely on the menu and we're really glad that we did. We both got the Aztec taco, so that's the only thing we really tried, but it was absolutely delicious and worth every minute and mile that we drove that day. It's a nice cozy little place with a very friendly staff and an easy-going atmosphere. Absolutely worth your time and money! read more

I must say our bar was low for expectations. Very touristy vibe but very tasty too! We all had fresh fish even a dozen oysters and everything hit the mark tonight. I would recommend. Awesome spot. Incredible friendly customer service. Fantastic ownership. We camped at the RV spot next door. The kids loved coming over every morning. The got free cookies a few times. Free samples. We had an amazing experience! The food was incredible--everything is cooked over wood, which gives it a fantastic flavor. The desserts were absolutely delicious, and the customer service was top-notch. The owner went above and beyond by making homemade ranch just for our kids, which they loved! One thing we didn't quite understand was why we weren't allowed to order drinks out of the cooler--they told us they weren't allowed to sell them. That was a bit confusing, but it didn't take away from the overall great experience. Highly recommend for both the food and the hospitality! read more

I love River Cafe! We usually get food to go, just because we'd rather eat at home. We've tried almost everything, but tend lean towards sandwiches and soup. They have a great variety, and know how to make good food. They make their own cinnamon rolls (drool worthy) and their breads are yummy! Breakfasts are just as you order, and are served all day (I love their cornbeef hash and eggs, and I'm fussy about both). Prices are reasonable, servings are huge. Give it a try! read more

This place is fantastic! A cozy, family owned spot in the heart of Homer with homemade food! We stopped here and ordered boxed lunches for our fishing charter and were charmed by friendly staff and great food! Plus you can't beat the prices for real, homemade food in Alaska! read more

We spent a week in Homer and tried as many restaurants as we could and The River Cafe was the best place to eat. They make the bread and baked goods onsite and the veggies were locally sourced and SO FRESH and delicious. Cant wait to visit again! read more
