Amazing fresh seafood on Homer Spit! We sat at the bar and tried the beers on tap, as well as their most popular dish (halibut) and our server's favorite (seafood curry). My recommendation is definitely go for the halibut! It was so fresh, complex in flavor and texture, and a great portion as well. Rockfish ceviche- the portion was inadequate...i needed a vat of it!! The fish and veggies were chopped perfectly for the right texture and taste combination. Fish chowder- a bowl of homey comfort. Nice chunks of salmon, halibut and potato in a creamy chowder. The house bread bites were just the right amount of crispy. A great pair for a starter and main. Restaurant was busy and full. This was by far the best restaurant we went to in Homer and we tried 'em all! Located on The Spit.. it's pretty small inside with a small bar in front for solo diners. Smallish menu with half a dozen apps & a handful of entrees. We started with fresh oysters & rockfish ceviche.. both were outstanding and packed with flavor! The challenge in dining here was deciding what to order; there were so many tempting dishes on and off the menu. I ultimately chose the night's special entree, ciaoppino, which was not on the menu, because of what it included and all was freshly caught in Ak. I can honestly say I have never had any ciaoppino, or paella, like it before. The dish included prawns, whole tanner crab legs, large prawns, with tails on and clams in the shell, served in a large bowl, with a thick perfectly seasoned tomato base sauce, fresh dill, two thick toast points, and lemon quarters. I was provided with numerous utensils incl. scissors, crackers, various sized forks, a soup spoon and a pick, to take full advantage of getting every speck of seafood out of the meaty crab legs. I blew through 3 wet hand wipes and 2 linen napkins, happily provided by the waitperson, as I made a mess of eating this delicious dish. There is an interesting wine and drink list but I don't drink alcohol, so she suggested making a drink out of a bitter lemon seltzer with pomegranate juice and it was excellent. Not sweet, and had a nice bite. For desert I had the chocolate pot du creme topped with whipped cream, a mint, and, surprise, a small macaron. The food was amazing. We started with a cheese appetizers which was delicious. Our party of 4 had 2 orders of halibut, one of scallops, and one Bi Bim Bap. Everyone enjoyed their food and my halibut was as fresh and awesome as you would expect from a fishing town. I also got a taste of the scallops and those were the best I'd ever had. Our server was great and the support staff was attentive as well. We called ahead to ask for a table by the windows and although they couldn't guarantee a window table, we did get one. Incredibly packed most of the time, so make sure you get a reservation if you have a group. Had to wait until enar closing to get a seat for 1, but well worth the wait! Seafood was extremely fresh and delicious. Easily the best halibut while I was in Alaska. read more

This place was super busy but we lucked out and someone left the bar just as we began our wait and they nicely let us take the bar seats. The hostess was super nice as well as the bartenders. The back room had amazing views of the ocean through huge windows. They had lots of healthy food choices which I really appreciated. I had them add halibut to my salad and it unfortunately was a little too meaty and overcooked for me (hence the 4 stars vs. 5) but I would definitely return because the rest of the food we had was fantastic and the prices were very reasonable - portion sizes were also good. read more

I drove to Homer and a friend of mine told me that this place it is a MUST! I was going to go to another location but I gave them a chance based on my friend's recommendation. When I first walked in I was told that they are completely full for a table in the dining area but the bar was open. As I sat at the bar for almost 2 hours, I saw plenty of tables open and when I left they were still empty. Maybe they were afraid that people would not get up on time for the people that had a reservation. Not sure but what I know it is that I had to sit at the bar. I felt ignored for about 5 to 8 minutes until the waitress came over. I ordered the Fish and Chips (fries not chips) and it was properly season, the taste was great and the fish was not dried. It was very tasteful UNTIL I noticed a side that I did not ordered and that was a piece of HAIR. I took a picture for Yelp as soon as I got my food so I zoomed in and the HAIR was there. I knew it was not my HAIR. The hostess (I think she is the manager or owner and I think her name is Jackie) she came over and asked me if everything was okay and I told her NO! I showed her the HAIR and the picture zoomed in so she can see that it came like that from the kitchen. She quickly removed the plate and I asked if it could be replaced and they did. The second plate had a couple of bigger fish and no HAIR. At the end I ordered a carrot cake and I received a DIRTY spoon (see picture) so I asked the hostess if I could get a new spoon. A few minutes later the waitress gave me a CLEAN spoon. She apologized for it but what are the odds that I will get a HAIR and a DIRTY utensil during my first visit! (I should play the lottery) The restaurant is beautiful and they have a very nice open space and ambiance. I like the small owner feel as I love to help the local businesses; however, I don't like a HAIR in my food or a DIRTY utensil . What I found very disrespectful, was the fact that I was charged for my meal. I don't want a free meal but this is their mistake and they did not do anything to make things right. Just keep that in mind. Would I come back? Not sure, to be honest. I wish the restaurant the best and I hope that they have a better and/or improve their quality control so no one else experience what I experienced. read more

We had an appetizer, which was fine and then the waitress disappeared and took care of everyone else in the restaurant before bringing us a cup of chowder. After driving around Homer, we finally found a reservation for Fresh Catch Cafe for 9PM. For anyone visiting Homer, remember to make a reservation to any restaurant in the city since it seems to fill up fast and restaurants tend to run out of food/materials before their closing time. Moving onto Fresh Catch Cafe, the location was great and the view out to the water was wonderful. The food was not bad but also not mind blowing. I ordered the fettuccine pasta, clams and the halibut fish and chips (not pictured). Although pricey the pasta had great flavor and a lot of seafood so I would recommend for an entree. The clams however did not taste fresh and had way too much pebble/rocks inside. The fish and chips were very large and the fish was super fresh. If you want to taste some of that famous Alaskan halibut I would recommend. Overall this place wasn't my first choice of go to restaurant but it still was a beautiful quaint restaurant with some decent seafood options. read more

This place was the best place we had during our trip in Alaska! We had an amazing, not overpriced crab for an appetizer and a very overpriced for half a dozen small oysters. For main meals we had amazing fish and chips, a kale salad with amazing dressing and flavor, a cup of clam chowder which was the best clam chowder over many, and the buffalo cauliflower! Everyone in our party was very delighted over our last meal in Alaska! This is what we had expected Alaskan food to be like. I liked the feel of this place. It was good for a family, but also looked nice for a date. I saw several couples enjoying the view of the bay and romantic atmosphere. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was wonderful. The clams were delicious. The rich broth was easy to sop up with the bread. The crab dip was gluten free and served with bread and crudités. The seafood risotto was cooked perfect, the halibut was seared well and complemented the rich creamy flavor from the risotto. The "udon" had a great flavor, albeit the noodles were closer to lugini. The bison burger was note worth. We thoroughly enjoyed the seafood risotto ($40) and the 16oz steak with fries ($36). The risotto was hands down worth every penny-- super creamy with plenty of seafood incorporated. The steak was good, cooked to order. The blue cheese smother was delicious and would have been a great compliment to the meat in a smaller quantity but was overpowering as it was-- had we known the presentation would have asked for it on the side. This is a five star restaurant. Food was brilliant. I got the clams and they were fresh and prepared in the most delicate and savory broth, I ate very bite and every drop of broth. Another night they were made with chorizo, which I was so leery of but I decided to trust them, and they were amazing. Never had clams as good as they prepare. Big huge bowls of clams with a hunk of fresh bread. My husband got the fish and chips, but this is no ordinary fish and chips! So lots of folks are complaining about them requiring proof of their vaccine to dine in the restaurant. It is not to be jerks - they have an auto immune compromised employee and this is how they are taking steps to help protect them. I can totally respect that. This was the first time I've ever had to show my card and it didn't bother me a bit. The food was incredible and so worth it. My husband who was not thrilled about showing our cards (until we found out their reason) said the food was worth it. We also had the crab boudin balls and they were amazing!!! We also had the clam chowder and it is not a normal clam chowder. Think of it as steamed clams with an extremely thick clam chowder poured on top. It was prob some of the best chowder we've ever had. So please don't let the proof keep you away. It was so worth it. They have a sign that says "Reservations Required" but they were able to squeeze us in. Don't miss it!! So yummy!! read more

One of the best meals I had while in Homer! My friend and I shared the teriyaki(?) salmon bowl, the lamb tikka masala and the carrot cake. Everything was excellent. The chunks of lamb in the lamb tikka masala were perfectly tender, and the curry had a nice saltiness to bring out the flavors. The salmon was also delicious though maybe just a tad smokier (maybe from the sauce) than I would prefer but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. The carrot cake was rich, moist and the icing was mild for a cream cheese icing, which I appreciated. Great use of fresh local ingredients across the board. Not to mention the amazing house made sourdough bread with butter to start! The restaurant itself is cozy and has beautiful views. This place was AMAZING. I can't believe everyone is leaving such negative reviews just because they ask for you to be vaccinated to sit inside. It's perfectly reasonable, and it honestly made me feel safer/more comfortable. Anyone so sensitive that they'd leave a bad review over asking for your vax status can go somewhere else, but I promise you'd be missing out. The food was incredible. We ordered the seafood dip for an appetizer and it was fantastic. For my main, I got the seafood fettuccine and it was sooo good. My partner got the fish and chips, and he loved it. The service was also really great and all of the staff were super nice. The inside has a great view of the bay and a wonderful atmosphere. I can't recommend this place enough.
