This freaking Mike guy. Everything was going well until my girlfriend called me with questions. This is after receiving a quote for parts and labor Mike- who was that? Me- oh, my girlfriend. Mike- we don't like it when people question the mechanic. It makes us not want to the work at all" Me: oh lol. Mike: I'm serious. Then he rewrites the quote and tells me I have to go get my own parts now. Me "because what my girlfriend asked?!" Mike "yes" I went to a couple stores in the area and one of them guessed that it was Mike from the story. I went to the service department across the street and that guy, named guy was cool. He actually offered a diagnostic, Mike did not. But with the diagnostic and a new alternator, it's cheaper than Mike was going to charge. Also when I told him I wasn't letting him go near my car and I was taking it to another place because of his rudeness, he asked if it was because I was a sissy. this guy can take a flying kick at a rolling doughnut. Shady as hell. ​rude as hell. And other yelp reviews say he ripped them off. I gotta check the brake job he did last week, when I have a chance. I found this place when my son's car was having brake issues. Initially sent him AAA. AAA wanted to charge us an arm and a leg to get his brakes repaired. so I searched nearby and found River city brakes. They gave me a reasonable quote for the work and we sent the car down there and it was done on time and for about half the cost of AAA. I've since taken my own car to River City even though it is farther from home than other brake shops. it's worth the trip because they're honest and they do good work. read more

Beware! This guy does a bait and switch. Bought a Groupon for brake pads. When I get there he tells me my rotors are warped. Then proceeds to tell me he will only honor the Groupon if I replace the rotors. Over $400 additional expenses. Says no-one turns rotors anymore. Which is B. S. I went to another shop says the rotors had minor warping, turned them and said they can probably be turned 1 more time. Got pads and turned rotors for about $200 less than what this guy tried to charge me. I turned him into Groupon as well. Hopefully they'll drop him! read more

Awesome shop to bring your vehicle for brake service. I brought Mike my 1956 Ford F-100 pick up, with aftermarket disk brakes, for adjustment and noise diagnosis. Mike and his crew were very professional, and got my truck in quickly. The guys took care to carefully put it up on a lift, making sure not to damage the painted frame. After adjusting the brakes and noticing an additional problem with the rear calipers, Mike took the time to explain the problem to me and offered to put new calipers on when I got them. A couple of weeks later, Mike and his crew made the swap, and the truck is running and stopping perfectly. I highly recommend Mike and his shop of any braking needs. read more

I had my front and rear brake pads replaced here and the experience was excellent from start to finish. When I first called, he immediately mentioned that my car model often has warped front rotors. That kind of insight gave me confidence because when I previously had them done somewhere else many years ago, my front rotors were warped too, so I know he was speaking truth and giving valuable insight. I picked up a pair of rotors prior to coming in. When I brought everything in, he checked my parts and confirmed that my front rotors were indeed warped. His expertise saved me time and helped me avoid future issues. He also looked at my rear rotors and explained what to watch for down the line. He said if I ever start to notice that specific issue, to give him a call and he'll take care of it It's great doing business with River City Brakes. Would never do business here or recommend doing business here. I wish I would've read the reviews before purchasing a groupon but here I am. I didn't see the reviews until after but was still hopeful I wouldn't suffer the same fate as everyone else but obviously as you can tell by my rating, that wasn't the case. At a different place, I had scheduled maintenance done which included a brake inspection a week before I bought the groupon for RCB (River City Brakes) and was told I needed new pads for the front immediately & the backs were almost to the recommended wear point. After searching for the best deal I went with RCB because it was closer to Antelope than the other few places that were similar in cost. Guy went out for like 2 minutes and came back and said I needed rotors not pads and it would be almost $800 extra on top of the groupon so I just left disappointed they were still running the same con. I ended up going to a different place up the street in Roseville and they got me in and out no problem . My front brake pads were severely worn and rotors were fine, just as I was told when I had the brake inspection and scheduled maintenance done a week before going to RCB. It's a shame they have to be so shady to get business. I would be fine paying the cost if I genuinely needed it done but 2 different places (1 before and 1 after) have confirmed my rotors were fine and pads were over due so it appears they're just lying to get more money. I wouldn't have left a bad review if the second place had said my rotors were fine, I may have even left a decent review saying they were honest about needing new rotors so maybe the other negative reviews were exaggerating or misinformed but all my experience did was confirm the negative reviews to be true. RCB shouldn't even be allowed to advertise on Groupon if you ask me if this is how they're going to treat potential customers. If you don't want to do a service for a discounted price, don't offer it for a discounted price and if the money comes from doing rotors, offer a deal for that then but getting people in for a $100 brake job then trying to con them into a $800 rotor fix that isn't necessary is a terrible look. read more

River City Brakes inspected everything firestone quoted me for and was honest about what needed to be done and what didn't. Hate to do this but I have to share my experience. UMMM ACTUALLY I DO NOT HATE THAT I SAID ANYTHING THIS DUDE IS A SCAMMERRRRR! I too bought the Groupon!!! I got my brakes done here in November 2023. They sounded better before I got them done here. I've had nothing but problems since getting them done. I went back bc they still sounded bad and supposedly they got fixed again but still made A LOT of noise. Wasted 800$. Now, less than a year later I had to get them done again. I was going to go back here but I did not want to waste my time. They were done again today and no noises AT ALLLLLLL. So, don't do it. Just go somewhere else. The mechanic who did them this time said it looks like my rotors were resurfaced versus replaced which is NOT what I paid for. No need to try and rectify. DO NOT GO HERE. If I can give this place 0 stars, I would. I got a Groupon deal to get all 4 of my brake pads replaced as it's been 5 years since I've gotten my car. Upon arriving, the front desk guy asked for my keys to check out my car. He came back and said that I needed my rotors changed and that my brake pads were fine. He gave me a quote of I think $150 to change the rotors (don't remember exact price) I felt uncomfortable since I didn't know much about the pricing and so I asked if I can get my brakes done and think about the rotors another time? He said I should change my rotors first. I don't need to change my brake pads and should come back another time. I told him I'm going to look more into it and left. I went to a different shop and they told me my rotor were fine and that I definitely needed new brake pads. I have attached a pic of my old brake pads vs the new one the new shop was installing for me. Left side is the new brake pads, right side are the old ones which you can tell were worn down and super thin... The guy at river city brakes was just trying to upsell me and get more money since he already knew I had a Groupon. Jokes on you, I got that crap refunded. Terrible service! read more

I drive up for a man to meet me outside and tells me to meet him in the front office. no introduction, doesn't know who I am or what I'm there for. I step into the office alone and quickly come back out to notice he is shining a light on my tires 'inspecting' them. it was very shady behavior. He told me my breaks are fine but I need to replace rotors. After he refused several times to perform the service they offer, I immediately went to Pepboys where they performed a full inspection. I called River City to get a price for brake pad replacement. I already had a quote from Les Schwab who said my rear brake pads were at about 2 mm. The price was great, ($300 less) so I went in to see Mike at River City. Before turning over the vehicle, he said he looked at it while parked in the lot. He told me that all of my brake pads were fine, but all four rotors were warped and quoted over $800 for the job. I left and told him I would have to budget for that. Today, I have taken my car to a third opinion, at Firestone. They said the rear pads need to be replaced, fronts are fine, and will turn the rear rotors. Their quote matched Les Schwab, minus the needless calipers. Mike looks you in the eye, and has a sympathetic and honest way about him, BUT, HE INTENTIONALLY RIPS PEOPLE OFF THROUGH A GROUPON DISCOUNTED PRICE TO GET YOU IN AND THEN LIES ABOUT THE ROTORS TO INCREASE THE TICKET. I've read other reviews now that have had the same experience as me. read more

Bought a Groupon for $89 towards front and rear brake pads with installation. I went in knowing I needed new rotors because they vibrated upon braking. Mike gave me a quote on how much it would cost to replace all brake pads and rotors. Service was good and quick (out in 2 hrs). Mike also gave me a call back from my missed call for an appointment, which was nice. One star for calling me back quickly and one for seemingly quality work. Besides the positive points, I think I was overcharged and felt deceived. The reason for that is in the quote, the costs for both front and rear pads plus installation are included ($40 for each set + $120 total for installation = $200). The Groupon discount on my quote only gave me $160 off ($40 off parts + $120 off labor), which means I had to pay an extra $40 for a set of brake pads that I already paid for with the coupon. I didn't realize this until I went home and check the billing. I live 30 minutes away and I trusted the reviews that this place is trustworthy and affordable. I would not recommend this place to my family. Update: 3 months in the the front brakes are wearing unevenly and theres reduced rotor to pad surface area contact due to poor quality brakes. The brakes don't stop as quickly as my stock ones did due to reduced braking surface. I went by to the shop the day following my previous review and the owner said it was normal. I guess that's a perfect answer if you want to lose customers because I am warning my friends, family and everyone who reads this review to stay away from this shop at all costs. read more

Came here with a Groupon 2 years ago - the owner (who's an actual mechanic here, too) said my brakes were in great shape, no rush, come back whenever. 25,000 miles and 2 years later, I return, and he basically explains the same thing. I COULD have them replaced now, but realistically both pads and rotors will last another ~10,000-20,000 miles or 1-2 more years. Incredibly honest and efficient experience. I will be coming here for my future brake work - when that eventually becomes necessary! read more

After he told me about my "warped rotors" I took it to my mechanic and it was fine, just needed new breaks. Been driving for 4 years on them. Don't trust this guy, it's all an upcharge. Definitely my go to place for brakes. I bought a Groupon for brakes about 10 years ago & I've brought every car I own back to him for brakes ever since. He's honest and super fair. I got my oil changed at Roseville BMW in July and their complementary inspection said I needed new brakes which would cost me $1400. Mike did them for $550. My RAV4 engine, and ABS brake light came on suddenly and would not turn off. Since it was an engine light, I had it towed to River city. I have had work done there on my car. before and I trust him implicitly. Mike called me the next day to tell me to come pick up my car because after running tests he felt it was just a gas cap issue and after tightening the cap it should reset and the light should turn off after 100 miles of driving it. He charged me, absolutely nothing for looking at it. The light did not turn off after 100 miles, so I called again ready to tow it to him. I should mention that I called him on Veterans Day a holiday and he called me back immediately. He felt it was still really a gas cap issue and advised me to get a new gas cap and see if that works. It did I can't think Mike enough for his continuous willingness to help me out, even though he sometimes does not make a penny from me. I highly recommend him and his business. read more

Nothing is more embarrassing than pulling up to a stoplight and turning heads. When I say turning heads, not the turning of heads when you see a perfectly modified vehicle or an attractive face. I'm referring to the turning of heads due to a loud squeaking noise being emitted from someone's vehicle as they come to a stop. For two months I was that guy, until I decided that enough was enough (one of my dad's favorite sayings). While doing a quick Groupon search, I stumbled across a deal being offered through River City Brakes. The deal included Front and Rear Brake Pads Installation with a Tire Rotation for $89. I immediately purchased the deal and scheduled an appointment. When dropping my car off, I was greeted by Mike who accepted my Groupon and explained that he would inspect the vehicle, and contact me regarding his findings before working on my vehicle. Approximately 30 minutes later I received a call from Mike. Second to receiving the results of a health exam, receiving the results of a vehicle inspection can be a scary situation. Mike informed me that my brake pads were in good condition. However, all four of my rotors were warped and needed to be replaced (along with my two front tires). Furthermore, when rotors are replaced, it's recommended that new brake pads are installed (I did extensive research to ensure that I was not getting upsold). After giving Mike an "ok", he advised me that my vehicle would be ready within two hours. Two hours later I received a call that my vehicle was ready. After handing over $500, I drove off in what felt like a new vehicle. No more violent vibrating/squeaking while braking, talk about a confidence booster! Since brakes and rotors rarely go bad, I pray that I will not have to make a return visit in the near future (they offer a lifetime warranty on their brake pads). However, I will definitely recommend them for their efficiency! read more

Visited River City to redeem Living Social voucher for front and rear brake job and was told that additional fees not included in the voucher would be added to final cost. Tech Manager evaluated pads with a flashlight and mirror and determined pads didn't need replacement despite indicator warning light. I was then advised to return with parts (i.e. pads) to redeem the Living Social voucher and additional per axle costs would be added to the voucher amount. Highly disappointed in the service and work done to my car. I'm often skeptical about auto shops...who isn't? But I found a deal on Groupon for front and back tire brake pads & read a couple of yelp reviews and thought, sounds like a good place! Well, I was definitely mislead... I went in at the end of July to get new front and back brake pads with tire rotation (as stated in the groupon). An $89 dollar value, sounds like a decent price! Well, I show up at 8am sharp because they require you to schedule an appointment one day before. Turns out I had to pay an additional $54 for some other "necessary" parts. The gentlemen that did the car inspection informed me that I would also need new rotors on both front and back tires. Cool, so he does an estimate and tells me it'll be around $450 for new rotors. Not quit in my budget so I said no thank you and had him just do the brake pad replacement. So I got there at 8 and didn't end up leaving there until about 11:45. Yup, basically 4 hours to get brake pads done??? Doesn't make sense, I've had my dad replace them in about an hour before. So fast forward to today, about 2 weeks later and my front tires are making a screeching sound when I brake. I figured, well it's time to get those new rotors the mechanic was suggesting to get replaced. Sooo I bring the car to my personal mechanic, my dad. He shows me that the old rotors were ruining the new front brake pads and he had to throw those away and buy new ones. I just feel taken advantage of because being a mechanic that specializes in brakes should've explained that getting new brake pads without getting new rotors would just not be logical...they stole money from me basically. If they were really looking out for the sake of their customers and the value/service they provide they would have informed me this information.
